It is 25 years since Paul Scholes produced one of his most iconic Manchester United goals.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s side were taking on Bradford City and made light of the away fixture, eventually racking up a 4-0 win, en route to retaining the Premier League title.

With the Reds 2-0 ahead, courtesy of a pair of Dwight Yorke goals in the first half, there was a moment that will be forever replayed as our midfield genius produced a volley that perfectly encapsulated his extraordinary technique.

David Beckham headed out to the left wing to take a corner in front of the away end and delivered a ball with his usual unerring accuracy.

His colleague for club and country did the rest, leaping in the air to smash a ridiculous strike past Matt Clarke in the Bantams’ goal.

When asked about the goal in an interview after his retirement, Scholesy said: “We never worked on it. I swear to God, we never practised it.

“I said to Becks, on his way, just have a look at the edge of the box. We’d had a few corners before and I knew I was free.

“If you see it again, I walk towards the halfway line as if I’m not even bothered. But I look and see Becks has a look in the corner of his eye, so I feel he’s going to do it.

“So I just crept up, crept up, crept up and he did it. And I smashed it in, luckily enough.”

Beckham added a fourth goal at Valley Parade to put the seal on an impressive win on the road, as the victory extended our lead at the top of the table to seven points, ahead of nearest challengers Leeds United and Arsenal.
