£73m United star submits surprise transfer request to return to former club – report

Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho is reportedly keen on returning to Borussia Dortmund this summer.

In 2020, Sancho was one of the most sought-after talents in Europe, having established himself as one of Dortmund’s most important players after leaving Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

United chased the Englishman for over 12 months before striking a £73m agreement with Dortmund in the summer of 2021. However, since then Sancho’s stocks have rapidly plummeted.

At this point, it seems no one is fully convinced about placing their trust in Sancho.

The United hierarchy have no first-team plans for the 25-year-old and Chelsea were so cautious with their pursuit last summer that they included a penalty clause to opt out of their obligation to make his loan signing a permanent one.

The England international enjoyed a promising start in London but he has quickly returned to his old habits, receiving backlash for his sluggish style of play and lack of decisiveness in the final third.

According to Bild, it is currently “almost impossible” for Chelsea to exercise their purchase option worth £25 million. Amid this, Sancho is understood to be eyeing a return to Dortmund.

It is claimed that the United forward has not lost touch with his former club and even frequently talks to Dortmund superstar and fellow countryman Jamie Gittens.

Following his two relatively successful spells at Westfalenstadion, Dortmund has become a “dream” destination for him.

It is suggested that Sancho has submitted a transfer request to his management to facilitate a Dortmund return.

Sancho’s United contract, which runs until 2026, sees him take home around £13million annually. Accordingly, even if the winger decides to reduce his demands, the overall financial package could make things difficult for Dortmund.

Further, Bayer Leverkusen are also believed to be monitoring his situation.
