“Really good for the coach”: Ruben Amorim buzzing over news from club owner

Ruben Amorim says Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro will return to the squad soon.

“Mason Mount is too soon,” he said. “Leny is out. Harry cannot play this one but I hope to have him for Sunday. Manu [Manuel Ugarte] is in the squad. Leny is not long-term but he cannot play this game or the next one.”

The club had already confirmed earlier today that Mason Mount is back in training, but tomorrow’s match comes too soon for him to take part.

The same is not true though for Ugarte, who is expected to go straight back into the starting XI.

Asked about his thoughts on Sir Jim Ratcliffe saying some of the players are not good enough, Amorim said:

“I think if we are being honest, everybody, me, the players, are underperfoming this season. I include myself in that.

“You talk about Casemiro, for example, and he is a player that has won everything. Everyone can do so much better. The focus is on to change his and everyone else’s minds.

“If you are a top player and you play in this club, even me… people say I am not good enough for this club. In training I feel as though they want this really bad, especially tomorrow.”

The boss was asked to comment on his relationship with Sir Jim.

“It is really good since day one,” he responded. “We are blunt and honest with each other. I feel the support from the board, especially from Sir Jim. We have honest conversations.”

Asked about his response to Sir Jim saying he unequivocally backed him, Amorim replied:

“I already knew that. I had had all of these conversations with them. They came to me in the dressing room. But to say it publicly is really good for the coach. Since day one, I have felt the support from everyone here.”

On his plans for next season, Amorim said:

“We have a clear plan to address next season. Of course, we have the Europa League also, and we can reach the Champions League. You never know. It can change plans. We have a plan and we know what to do. We know what kind of players we need to bring.

“In that context, it is also important; [winning tomorrow] will give us more energy to continue the season. It is not going to change a lot, but it can give us energy.”

Tomorrow’s match at Old Trafford kicks off at 8pm.
