Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is growing increasingly displeased with his current status at Ruben Amorim’s court.

The Stockport native is considered one of the most exciting youngsters to emerge from the club’s academy in recent years. But while he enjoyed a meteoric rise to stardom under the guidance of Erik ten Hag, his development stalled following Amorim’s arrival last November.

The Portuguese manager tried the player in various roles last season, but he was never given a run as a starter.

This season, the 40-year-old identified Mainoo as a No.8 who must fight for his place in the team with Bruno Fernandes. This duel has been dominated by the club captain who has thus far started in all seven Premier League fixtures this season, while the young Englishman’s solitary start came in the ill-fated Carabao Cup tie in Grimsby.

In his latest update for the Centre Devils, Man United journalist Sully confirmed that Mainoo is ‘unhappy’ with his place at the club.

The Carrington insider insists that unless the situation changes in the coming weeks, the player will ask to leave the club in January.

Mainoo will ask Man Utd to leave in January

It should be noted that Mainoo had expressed his desire to leave on loan in late August, but his request was denied by Man Utd officials who were determined to keep him.

Nevertheless, with the World Cup approaching and his place in the England squad hanging in the balance, the 20-year-old will be more resolute in his request come January. Napoli has been identified by several sources as the club leading the chase for Mainoo.

But in the meantime, the midfielder continues to work hard in the hopes of convincing Amorim to find him a place in the lineup. He has also been undergoing extra training with an individual training coach. Sully adds that Mainoo isn’t the only one who feels he deserves more playing time, as many at the club agree with his claim, not to mention United’s fanbase.
