Peter Schmeichel Questions Why Man Utd Did Not Sign “Fantastic Player” Ahead Of Premier League Rival

BACK Man Utd legend Peter Schmeichel says his former club missed a trick by not signing Micky van de Ven before he joined Tottenham. Spurs paid £43m for the Dutchman when he joined from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023, and he has been clocked as the quickest player in the Premier League since then. Schmeichel thinks van de Ven could have been a massive asset for the Red Devils: “I think he has been a revelation. I think he is a fantastic player. He has a really, really good understanding of the game, and his speed is so valuable if you want to play offensive football.” “I sometimes think that a club like Manchester United or maybe even Liverpool should look for someone like him. Why didn’t they discover a player like him?” Man Utd could sign a new centre-back Harry Maguire has still not signed a new contract, and with his current deal expiring at the end of June, a replacement for the 32-year-old could soon be needed. Trusted journalist David Ornstein has mentioned that the defence could be an “area of focus” for the recruitment team if Maguire leaves. Van de Ven might be a realistic summer target With Tottenham looking unlikely to qualify for the Champions League (unless they somehow win it this season), it could give United the chance to buy him this summer. After three successive victories under interim manager Michael Carrick, the Manchester club are currently sitting in the top 4. Van de Ven is said to be reluctant to sign a new contract at Spurs as he is questioning the direction the club is heading in. If United can offer him Champions League football next campaign, a move to Old Trafford could prove to be an attractive proposition. Want more news on Man Utd?
