Match preview: Aston Villa v United Women

Wednesday 19 March 2025 10:22

Marc Skinner’s side are aiming to get back to winning ways in the Women’s Super League, when we travel to Aston Villa on Sunday.

The Reds were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool at Anfield last time out, bringing a seven-match winning run in the division to an end.

United still sit four points clear of Manchester City in third and will be looking to consolidate our position in the Champions League places at Villa Park.

Here’s what you need to know ahead of the clash with the Midlanders…

HOW TO WATCH AND FOLLOW

Sunday’s game kicks off at 16:30 GMT and is being broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football.

We’ll have people on the ground covering the action live, in the United App and on ManUtd.com and you’ll be able to watch highlights across our platforms from midday on Monday.

TEAM NEWS

Jayde Riviere and Elisabeth Terland returned to the starting line-up at Liverpool after missing our Adobe Women’s FA Cup quarter-final victory over Sunderland, but Simi Awujo was once again missing.

We may receive more of an update from Skinner when he holds his pre-match press conference on Friday morning.

Former United midfielder Lucy Staniforth has been ruled out for the remainder of Villa’s season, while Rachel Corsie and Sarah Mayling have also been injured. Maz Pacheco returned to action as a substitute at Crystal Palace, following a two-month injury lay-off.

FORM GUIDE

Our reverse on Merseyside marked the first time we’ve dropped points in the league since 24 November and brought an end to three straight wins on the road.

With six games to play, and the final three coming against Chelsea, Arsenal and City, it’s probably imperative that we pick up points at Villa this weekend.

The 11th-placed hosts have lost four in a row in the division and Crystal Palace are breathing down their necks in the relegation battle after winning 3-1 at the VBS Community Stadium last Sunday.

Villa’s two victories this term have come at home, while they did hold us to a goalless draw at Leigh in the autumn. They have changed their manager since then, with Natalia Arroyo replacing Robert de Pauw, after Shaun Goater’s interim spell.
