Former Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood had a standout season last year. United career After impressing for the youth teams, Greenwood got his first-team opportunity in 2019 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In his first full season, he scored 17 goals in the 2019–2020 campaign. He played a total of 129 matches and scored 35 goals for the Red Devils. Nonetheless, his career at the club came to an abrupt end after criminal allegations, and as a result, the club suspended him. He originally went out on loan to Getafe for the 2023–2024 season and was sold to Olympique de Marseille in 2024. He spent two seasons there, where he scored 48 goals over two seasons. Fenerbahce move As a result of his fine form, Greenwood secured a move to Fenerbahce, where he played his first European match in a Champions League qualifying match against Górnik Zabrze. United made around €13 million from the sale of the Carrington product owing to the sell-on clause they inserted into his deal. Barcelona interest Since Greenwood’s United career was over, he has been regularly linked to numerous top sides, including the Spanish clubs after impressing for Getafe in 2023–2024. Catalan newspaper Sport claims that Greenwood was under consideration at the club before they committed to the signings of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi. The paper claims that sporting director Deco “had Mason Greenwood on his shortlist” during the club’s search for affordable attackers. Sport describe Greenwood as “a versatile player who can operate in any attacking position, both on the wing and centrally. He possesses an exquisite left foot and a significant influence on the game.” Ultimately, Barcelona opted not to make a move in spite of their admiration for the Carrington product. The article states, “but the British player was a player they liked. Barça’s interest didn’t go beyond that initial stage, and the deal was eventually shelved. It’s also worth remembering that Barça are also investing in the emerging talent of Jesse Bisiwu.” Mason Greenwood Stats: 2025/26 Season CompetitionAppearancesStartsGoalsAssistsYellow CardsRed CardsMinutes Played Ligue 132291674-2,471′ UEFA Champions League88311-671′ Coupe de France44631-345′ Trophée des Champions111—90′ Total454226116-3,577′ Feature image Angel Martinez via Getty Images The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
