Marcus Rashford U-turn sends shock waves across football, Ineos might have to rethink their whole window – report

Marcus Rashford is reportedly not shutting the door to a return to Manchester United, as he mulls over his options ahead of the summer transfer window.

Rashford fell out of favour under Ruben Amorim, who constantly left him out of United matchday squads, citing selection and training reasons. Rashford was dropped from the first team by Amorim in December and, apart from being an unused substitute in the home loss to Newcastle on 30 December, was not included in any matchday squad thereafter.

The forward joined Aston Villa in the latter stages of the January transfer window and has impressed there, scoring four goals and providing an additional six assists in 17 games across all competitions.

Villa have the chance to make his signing a permanent one for £40million but it’s currently unclear whether or not they will exercise their option.

Rashford’s future remains uncertain and according to Sky Sports, the 27-year-old is not ruling out any options regarding his future, including the possibility of returning to Old Trafford.

According to Sky, “Marcus Rashford is not ruling out any options over his future at the moment. That includes staying at Manchester United, Sky Sports understands. It’s understood that Rashford will decide his future at the end of the season. There is plenty of interest in him. Staying at Aston Villa remains an option and he will consider it while there’s also interest from several clubs in England and abroad.”

“It’s also understood that Rashford feels the door is not completely closed on returning to Man United and fighting for his place. A source told Sky Sports News that Rashford believes he could have a future at Old Trafford despite the situation this season, having spent his whole career at his boyhood club.”

“He has also enjoyed his time at Aston Villa, which has seen him return to form. Now, Barcelona, who held interest in January, continue to monitor his situation and are one of several clubs interested in the England international.”

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler reveals that Rashford won’t make a decision over his future until the summer. His representatives will not sit down for talks until mid-June at the earliest.

The newspaper explains that Rashford “does not want” to move to London and his preference is to join a club in the Champions League – something that may rule out Villa, who suffered a significant setback on Tuesday evening as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.

Rashford’s camp have also ruled out the possibility of the player being used as a makeweight in a deal for stars like Ollie Watkins and Eberechi Eze.

This information has been corroborated by BBC. However, contrary to Sky Sports, the BBC say that Rashford “feels it is unlikely” he will line up for United under Amorim.

The player and those close to him do not see an obvious way back for him at United.

Rashford’s contract with the Red Devils expires in 2028.
