Manchester United have had a number of transfer targets so far this summer. The Red Devils have also managed to make some solid signings, including the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
Of course, while the club may still have exits that they need to sort out, they are also continuing to pursue other targets of theirs.
Among those include Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand. United have been linked with a move for the Dane for quite some time now.
Now, as per Correio da Manha (news image provided below), Manchester United have made multiple moves to sign the Sporting CP captain this summer but the Lions have decided to slam the door shut. The Portuguese club have no intention of parting ways with the 26-year-old this summer.
Sporting have already taken a massive blow this summer in the form of the exit of Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish attacker has moved to the Emirates to continue his career with Arsenal and losing Hjulmand would be a cruel blow.
President Frederico Varandas is keen on winning a third title. He wants Hjulmand to be a part of the team and push for the title.
Thus, if Man Utd are looking for a new midfield addition this summer, they might have to shift their focus to another player.
Ruben Amorim has a number of options that he can count on in midfield. Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro seem to be the starting options for the Portuguese coach with Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo available to provide backup.
However, Ugarte has failed to convince during his time at Man Utd.
He has failed to adapt to the Premier League and Christopher Vivell & co. might be keen to sign an alternative, especially with Casemiro not getting any younger. Let’s wait and see how things play out on this front in the coming days and weeks.
