BACK David Tully Nov 12th 2025 Man Utd are weighing up moves for two central midfielders ahead of the January transfer window, according to reports. The Daily Mail claim that Wolves’ Joao Gomes and Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher are both on the club’s radar. It is believed that the Red Devils have made strengthening the midfield a top priority in January. However, neither Gomes nor Gallagher will be easy transfers to secure due to the stance of their respective clubs. What is the situation with Gomes? The player’s representatives are said to be looking to engineer a move away from Molineux at the earliest possible opportunity. However, Wolves are reportedly reluctant to sanction the sale of any high-profile players after promising incoming head coach Rob Edwards that they won’t let any of the team’s stars leave. There is likely to be a much better chance of signing Gomes at the end of the season, especially if Wolves are relegated. He could be available for just £30m by next summer. Man Utd may revive their pursuit of Gallagher The Red Devils did make an enquiry about signing the former Chelsea midfielder on loan in the last transfer window. Atletico Madrid knocked back the interest as they are only willing to offload him on a permanent basis. That stance has not changed, but Ruben Amorim’s side may alter their approach instead. They could potentially offer a loan deal for Gallagher with an option to buy for around £45m. Of course, such a proposal does not guarantee that a transfer will happen, and Atletico may end up demanding an obligation to buy or (at the very least) request that the move becomes permanent in the summer based on certain conditions. Gallagher appears the more likely January target at this stage, but other names may come under consideration.
