Rio Ferdinand Names The Man Utd Player Who Has “Been A Joke” So Far This Season

BACK David Tully Nov 12th 2025 Man Utd legend Rio Ferdinand has singled out Bryan Mbeumo for praise following his superb start to life at Old Trafford. The Cameroon international has hit the ground running since his £71m move from Brentford in the summer, and Ferdinand says the forward has been outstanding: “Mbeumo has been a joke. He’s really stepped in there and become a mainstay. He’s someone who can give you two or three seconds on the ball to relieve pressure. He can score important goals and create chances.” “I saw [Spurs manager] Thomas Frank’s comments about him the other day, and Mbeumo nearly being a complete winger. I think by the end of this season, he’ll be one of the most complete wingers in the Premier League because he can do everything. He just needs to consistently do it in a United shirt.” Mbeumo’s season in numbers The 26-year-old got off the mark by scoring in his third game for United. He came off the bench at halftime and found the back of the net against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup. Since then, Mbeumo has scored 5 more goals, including a brace versus Brighton last month. He has also provided an assist during the 2-0 win over Sunderland. How have Man Utd’s other summer signings performed? Mbeumo is undoubtedly the best performer of the club’s five summer acquisitions. Matheus Cunha has received some praise, including from Ferdinand himself, following the win over Liverpool. However, the Brazilian has only scored one goal. Senne Lammens has produced some impressive displays as No.1, but it is difficult to make a considered judgement at this stage as he has only played a handful of games. Benjamin Sesko has definitely been the most disappointing, having struggled in the majority of matches. We have written a more in-depth article on the club’s transfer business, and given ratings for each signing.
