Luke Shaw returns to training

Luke Shaw returned to group training at Carrington on Wednesday, before Manchester United’s trip to Bucharest to take on FCSB.

As is customary before European ties, the Reds squad worked in front of the media for 15 minutes at base, and the 29-year-old was among the group.

It is the first time we’ve seen Shaw back on the grass since early December, when he suffered a small setback before we played Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Luke had only just returned to contention after a long spell on the sidelines, appearing as a substitute in Ruben Amorim’s first three matches in charge, against Ipswich Town, Bodo/Glimt and Everton.

Shaw, who can fulfil the left wing-back role and also play as one of the three central defenders, will be hoping to put an injury-hit 12 months firmly behind him and become a regular option for Amorim going forward.

Last week, the boss suggested that he would be managed carefully.

“He is going to be fit to train with the team,” Amorim said.

“Then we have to start with more minutes, we do not have a lot of time to train.

“We have to put some exercises in 10 minutes and then he has to make extra work to improve his fitness. I don’t know [when he will play], it is two weeks to start training before I think about putting him in for some minutes.”

It may, therefore, be too early for Luke to be included on the flight to Romania, although Victor Lindelof is bidding to be involved, having returned to the bench at Fulham on Sunday after a month out.

Lindelof and Manuel Ugarte, who withdrew early with a knock at Craven Cottage, were also spotted at open training.
