Ruben Amorim believes his time at Manchester United has made him a better coach. The Premier League giants appointed the Portuguese as their new head coach in November last year after parting ways with Erik ten Hag. Amorim arrived at Old Trafford on the back of a blistering spell with Sporting, where he won the league twice in four years. He had transformed the club’s fortunes, recording 164 wins in 231 matches in charge. The Portuguese, however, has endured a difficult first 12 months at the Theatre of Dreams, though his team have recently shown signs of a turnaround. Amorim’s record at Old Trafford so far Amorim managed just 16 wins in 42 matches across competitions last season, and lost the Europa League final 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur. United also finished 15th in the Premier League table. Despite a disappointing first six months, INEOS kept faith in the Portuguese and backed him heavily in the transfer market. Amorim also offloaded the deadwood over the summer in a bid to streamline his squad ahead of his first full season in charge. The team’s performances have already improved this season, with five wins and four defeats from their 11 matches across competitions so far. The Red Devils are also on a four-game unbeaten run in the league, which includes three wins and a draw, and now sit eighth in the league table after 10 games. TeamFromToPWDLWin %Ref. The most important moment of his career Speaking to DAZN, Amorim said: “If I get to the end of my career, I’ll see that this maybe was the most important moment of my career.” “It all happened well, because I started to win a lot of games and titles early in my career, which gave me some ability to choose the next project, to have some peace of mind and then yes, I spent a bad time and therefore that is part of the coaching life.” “If I go to see my whole story, maybe this was the best thing that happened to me. Today it’s easy to say why we’re winning. But I’m much better, I think I’m a much better coach now. It’s weird to say, but I think I am, because I learned to get over things that I didn’t know what it was like.” Recent performances suggest that the team is finally coming to terms with Amorim’s tactics. The additions of Premier League experience in Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha over the summer have certainly helped United’s cause. The Red Devils are now expected to turn their attention to midfield in 2026, with Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson reportedly among the names on their radar.
