Manchester United will look to restructure their midfield department in the summer. Midfield targets The Red Devils are reportedly interested in players such as Brighton and Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson. Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton is also believed to be a target for United this summer. Furthermore, it appears that several midfielders, including Manuel Ugarte, Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, could all leave the club this year. The club have the option to extend Casemiro’s deal this summer, but in theory his contract runs out in June. It has been widely reported that the club is unsure what to do as of yet, but will almost certainly offer significantly less money even if they do wish to extend the Brazilian’s contract. Departure rumours There have been rumours that a move to Major League Soccer in the United States of America could be on the cards for the midfield enforcer. It was also reported on Sunday that LA Galaxy would be keen to make a move for the former Real Madrid man if given the opportunity. Teams such as New York City FC, Austin FC, and Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami have all been mentioned as possible destinations for the Brazil captain. Brazil interest Nonetheless, there has also been interest in Casemiro from his native Brazil. Journalist Diego Firmino (via Sport Witness) reports that, “Palmeiras contacted Casemiro’s representatives to understand his contractual and sporting scenario in Europe. The Brazilian club know that Manchester United have not resolved talks over his future yet.” In a potential sticking point to a deal, it is stated that Casemiro “isn’t keen on reducing his wages.” Casemiro is not the Brazilian side’s main target, but “the interest is real” and they have offered him at least a two-year contract. Firmino also added that, “sources close to the player guarantee that Casemiro wants to keep playing at a top-flight level for the next few years”, so this may rule out a potential move to either the MLS or to Palmeiras in Brazil.
