Manchester United’s hunt for a new midfielder has taken them to the Dutch Eredivisie with Feyenoord’s highly-rated Quinten Timber on their radar.
What Ruben Amorim ideally needs is a deep-lying playmaker, who can replace Christian Eriksen, who left as a free agent upon the expiration of his contract.
Ederson remains a top target, but his asking price could prove beyond INEOS, who are eyeing either a loan acquisition or a low-cost operation.
This is where Timber fits the bill, with the Dutch giants open to a sale for only €25 million, with the 24-year-old only having one more left on his current deal.
Quinten Timber on United’s radar
His contract situation and ability has attracted the attentions of Inter Milan and Newcastle along with the Red Devils as per Teamtalk.
“Inter Milan have thundered into the race for Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber, who has also been considered by Manchester United and Newcastle, TEAMtalk understands.
“TEAMtalk understands that Feyenoord will NOT consider letting Timber leave for less than €25m. Inter haven’t submitted an official offer yet, but they continue to gather information on the five-time capped Dutch international and he remains under serious consideration.
“In recent weeks, there has also been some movement from the Premier League. As mentioned, Man Utd and Newcastle have shown interest in Timber.”
The Netherlands international started 24 games in all competitions last season, netting six times while registering a solitary assist.
Inter Milan also interested
He picked up a knee ligament injury in February which forced him to go under the knife and as a result, missed the rest of the campaign.
Quinten Timber can play all across the midfield, and in the 23/24 season, he ranked in the 97th percentile among his Eredivisie peers for chance creation and in the 100th percentile for possession won back in the final third (via fotmob).
This shows how he can be an asset for Amorim, both with and without the ball. The fact that he will be returning from a serious injury is the only risk.
But given INEOS’ budgetary constraints, it is doubtful the 20-time English league champions can find a player with even more quality for a lesser fee than Feyenoord’s current asking price.
The Dutch side do not want to lose him on a free next summer, so they might be open to a further price reduction, something INEOS can work on.
