Big statement: Marcus Rashford turns up for training at United despite being given time off – The Athletic

Manchester United outcast Marcus Rashford reportedly turned up to pre-season training on Monday and Tuesday despite being granted extended time off to aid his search for a new club.

Rashford is among a number of players who are not thought to have a future at United while Ruben Amorim is still the head coach.

The England international sealed a January loan move to Aston Villa after his relationship with Amorim broke down. Before he departed to join Unai Emery’s side, Rashford was left out of several matchday squads, which Amorim regularly attributed to training and selection reasons.

However, it always felt like there was more to the story and there were suggestions the pair had a heated exchange at the training ground, where Amorim accused Rashford of going out the night before – an accusation the forward denied before proceeding to ask the boss to provide evidence of his claims.

Rashford enjoyed an uptick in form at Villa, but they elected not to make his signing a permanent one. His future is uncertain, even as he continues to be linked with clubs like Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur, Fenerbahce, AC Milan, Como, Real Betis, Bayern Munich and others.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia had all requested transfers from United.

To help them in their efforts to find new teams, it’s understood United told the five players not to report to Carrington on Monday, 7, July, while the rest of the squad turned up for pre-season training.

However, according to The Athletic, Rashford still showed up, although he did not train with his teammates.

The newspaper reveals, “Marcus Rashford reported back for training at Carrington on Monday and Tuesday despite being one of five players given extra time to explore a move away from Manchester United.”

“Rashford worked on an individual basis and did not take part in team training with the rest of Ruben Amorim’s squad, the majority of whom returned on Monday to begin preparations for the 2025-26 season.”

“United said last Friday that the returns of Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia would be delayed until later in July to allow them to settle their uncertain futures, with all five out of favour under Amorim.”

The Athletic note that medical and rehabilitation services at Carrington remain available to the five players during their extended time away.

This Rashford move comes after United’s confirmation that he has been stripped of the number 10 shirt, which has now been handed to new signing Matheus Cunha.

Rashford’s decision to return early may suggest he is raring to go and may still be open to lining up for the Red Devils, despite the turmoil he has endured during the past few months.
