“I can’t make that connection”: Amorim cracks a rare smile but still sees room for improvement after Wolves win

Manchester United shook off an early wobble to whisk past Wolverhampton Wanderers and get back on track in the Premier League. The 4-1 triumph at Molyneux lifts the Red Devils to sixth place, behind Chelsea on goal difference alone. Amorim happy, for once Head coach Ruben Amorim has had his fair share of difficult post-match interviews to conduct during his turbulent time at United, but was able to be positive after tonight’s game. Speaking to Sky Sports, the Portuguese said: “I think we started the game really well. We scored a goal and we let Wolves a little bit get back into the game. “We suffered in the last play of the first half but in the second half we had good pace, good quality in the decisions. We finished the game and Wolves is in one difficult moment. It was a good evening.” Better in front of goal but still room for improvement United took advantage of poor opposition to unleash 27 shots, ten of them on target. Scoring four is never a bad thing, but Amorim sees room for improvement. He said: “We score four but we had a lot of shots, so I can’t make that connection with more clinical. “I think we improved a lot if you compare last season and this season, we are creating so much more chances and scoring more goals and having more real situations of danger, so I’m really pleased with that.” Rallying cry The Red Devils waned towards the end of the first half and conceded an equaliser, but blew away the cobwebs with a quick goal after the restart. Reflecting on the importance of this early goal, Amorim was uncharacteristically positive. He said: “I felt since the first minute, if it was not sooner, we would win the game and I really enjoyed how we played the second half. “We need to win the next one, this one is in the past. Let’s go.” Fluid front three The Portuguese was also pleased with his front three, which tonight featured Mason Mount alongside summer signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Asked about the fluidity on display amongst the attacking trio, Amorim said: “They have the quality to do that. They can change positions, especially if you play a guy like Matheus Cunha, he moves more than a typical nine, so we took advantage of that.” United face Bournemouth next week, and will be looking to build on tonight’s comfortable win to climb further up the table.
