5/6 aerial duels won, 5 clearances, 4 chances created, 1 assist: United star hitting new heights in classy display vs. Wolves

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot produced another improved performance, helping his side to a 4-1 victory over Premier League strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers. United beat Wolves Heading into the meeting at the Molineux, United knew that a win would catapult them from 12th position to sixth in the table. The Red Devils came flying out of the blocks and took a deserved lead in the 25th minute through Bruno Fernandes. The skipper made the best out of a poor pass inside the box from Matheus Cunha, producing a swivel and finish past Sam Johnstone. Wolves fought back and restored parity just before the break as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde capitalised on some pitiful defending from United. However, Wolves’ hope was short-lived. Bryan Mbeumo profited from a brilliant pass from Fernandes out to Diogo Dalot, who assisted the Cameroonian forward as Johnstone came rushing out of his line. Mason Mount made it 3-1 soon after as he volleyed home an exquisite Fernandes delivery. United dealt Wolves the final blow in the 82nd minute when Fernandes converted from the penalty spot. Ruben Amorim’s men were handed the penalty after Cristian Mosquera was judged to have illegally handled the ball. Multiple United players performed well, including Dalot. Dalot’s performance Dalot managed 54 touches of the ball during the time he was on the pitch before he was taken off later in the second half. The Portugal international won an impressive five of the six aerial duels he contested. He also made five clearances. Dalot created four chances, one of which was a big chance – Mbeumo’s goal, which restored United’s lead after Bellegarde’s equaliser. The United defender nearly got on the score sheet early on when Fernandes put him through on goal, but was denied by Johnstone, who got a hand to his effort. He played well against Crystal Palace and followed that up by scoring in last week’s disappointing 1-1 draw with West Ham. For United and Amorim, it’s good that he is now contributing goals and assists. After the West Ham result, Dalot petitioned his teammates to be “obsessed” with winning and it’s good that he is leading by example.
