“I adapt quickly”: United star defiantly backs himself amidst sea of recent criticism

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has backed his ability to adapt to Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation in a rather bizarre post on the club’s official website.

The article is penned under the name of Harry Maguire. Presumably this was a mistake on the part of the editors rather than a new initiative in which United stars write articles about each other.

Such is the shoddy standard of the piece, it is hard to know which is true. Ineos’ cost cutting starting to bite, perhaps.

The article starts with the quaint statement “Lisandro Martinez says he sees passion and determination in Ruben Amorim’s eyes as our new head coach aims to take Manchester United forward.”

Martinez is then quoted as saying:

“When you say good morning to him and look at his eyes, you see everything.”

“I see a lot of passion from him and his desire to put Manchester United in the highest levels, in the way he’s here every day in the training and in the games.”

In a more normal section of the piece, Martinez responds to the heavy criticism he received from Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher, who branded him a “worry” and questioned his ability to play in a back three.

Commenting on his substantial game time under the new boss, the defender asserted, “I think I’m a player who adapts in every system, I take the information and I adapt quickly.”

The Argentine also lavished praise on Amorim’s ability to communicate his ideas to the team and assured fans that the team already know what they should be doing, in spite of the lacklustre results.

“And with him, with Ruben, I always have an options to play, I always have some teammates there to pass the ball, and movement as well in the front, and defensive as well.”

“We are in a high line [and] when we press high, I know where to go. He give us all the information, which is really good for us.”

Martinez was also quick to highlight Amorim’s ability to connect with his new players and backed him to return United back to the upper echelons of English football.

Martinez and Amorim will hope to start the long journey back to the top with a win against Newcastle United later tonight, with kick off scheduled for 20.00 UK time at Old Trafford.

As for Maguire’s budding career as a football writer, we would advise him not to give up his day job.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
