Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is under pressure after overseeing five defeats this December while winning less points from his first seven games than predecessor Erik ten Hag had accrued in his final seven matches.
The Portuguese wants two midfielders with Christian Eriksen and Casemiro unlikely to provide the intensity he demands while Bruno Fernandes does not look like a natural fit in his system.
A versatile midfielder who can play as part of a double pivot and as a No 10 will be ideal for the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss and right on cue, the Red Devils were linked with a move for Real Sociedad star Luka Sucic.
The Croatia international moved to San Sebastian from RB Salzburg in the summer in a deal reported to be worth €10 million and has become a regular for the Txuri-Urdin.
United need midfielders
He has started 15 games in all competitions, playing both in a withdrawn role as well as a No 10 and has managed one goal and a solitary assist.
The 22-year-old feels he has adapted well with the Spanish game and his performances have caught the eye of United, something which has delighted the Croatia international.
As per Sportske Novosti, it was Christopher Vivell, head of recruitment at United, who had sought out information about the former RB Salzburg star, where Vivell was chief scout earlier.

As relayed by The Peoples Person, the 20-time English league champions are prepared to launch an operation worth €40 million to land Sucic.
The Basque outfit would find it hard pressed to turn down such an offer next summer. Whether INEOS actually go after him remains to be seen.
