Manchester United have suffered a hammer blow as Chelsea have agreed a deal for Sporting CP’s Geovany Quenda.
The Red Devils have seen the major improvement that Patrick Dorgu has made on the left hand side of Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system and are hoping to sign another new full back this summer.
It had been reliably reported that United were very keen on Sporting’s Quenda and that the player was also interested in the move.
The 17 year old was said to be attracted to the idea of playing again under the man who give him his debut at Sporting, Ruben Amorim.
It had also been relayed that Quenda had agreed personal terms with United as the two clubs were trying to thrash out a deal for the wingback.
Nonetheless, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea have swooped in and stolen the talented youngster from underneath United and Amorim’s noses.
He posted on X in the early morning that “Chelsea agree deal for Portuguese top talent Geovany Quenda, here we go!”
“Medical done for Quenda after secret blitz, he will join Chelsea in 2026.”
“Club to club agreement completed with Sporting and Quenda said yes to Chelsea project & Enzo Maresca’s plans.”

The news will be a crushing blow for United’s recruitment plans in the summer and it will surely irk Amorim that he has been unable to convince one of his former players to join him at Old Trafford.
United have recently been linked to Bayer Leverkusen wingback Jeremie Frimpong and are reportedly set to go head-to-head with rivals Manchester City over the player.
United will now need to dust themselves down and look for a new player who can fill that right wing back position in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system ahead of the summer window.
