“He will…” – Sky Journalist Sets Record Straight on Man United’s Pursuit of Angelo Stiller

Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller became the latest player to be linked with a move to Manchester United, but is there any truth behind this rumour?

MUFC’s desire to sign a new midfielder is hardly a secret at this stage. However, the club hasn’t been able to make substantial progress on any front. INEOS initially identified Carlos Baleba as their main target, but Brighton refused to engage in talks unless United would put more than £100 million on the table.

Moreover, Morten Hjulmand and Lucien Agoume were mentioned as alternative profiles among others, but there hasn’t been a concrete approach from Man Utd for either man.

As for the Stiller links, they first emerged on Thursday evening, launched by British journalist Ben Jacobs. The latter claimed that the German’s name emerged during internal talks at United, but the club hasn’t made any contact with Stuttgart or the player’s entourage.

Nevertheless, Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Pelletenberg has been quick to quash the rumour, insisting that this story is ‘wide off the mark’.

🚨🔴 Rumours linking Manchester United with Angelo #Stiller are wide of the mark.

There are no internal or external discussions, nor any concrete plans regarding a #MUFC move for Stiller before Deadline Day. He will go into this season with VfB Stuttgart. His contract runs… pic.twitter.com/TwZXh221jV

The Bundesliga transfer expert denies any internal talks at Man Utd regarding the 24-year-old German, or any plans to sign the player before the end of the summer transfer window.

On the contrary, Plettenberg fully expects Stiller to remain at Stuttgart for at least another season, while hailing him as a ‘Top player’.

What’s next for Man United in their midfield hunt?

With only 10 days remaining before the expiry of the transfer session, we can definitely expect a plethora of names to emerge as potential transfer targets for Man United, especially in the middle of the park, a department that the management has been determined to address.

Nevertheless, it remains uncertain how MUFC will proceed in the absence of a clear-cut frontrunner for the role.

One might wonder if United would simply decide to abort this mission and stick to their current choices. Bruno Fernandes is an obvious an automatic starter, while Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, and potentially Kobbie Mainoo are now vying for a spot alongside the captain.
