Former Manchester United winger Karel Poborsky has lamented the current image of the club.

The former Czechia international played 48 times for United over the course of two seasons.

He won the 1997 Premier League while at the club before moving to SL Benfica in the summer of 1998.

Poborsky regularly turns out for the United legends teams and was asked about his former club’s current state by Czech outlet SZ.

The 52 year old was asked about the recent drama over the departure of sporting Dan Ashworth and it is fair to say, he was far from impressed.

“It’s a surprise, I didn’t expect this and it doesn’t make a good impression on anyone at all.”

He admitted that the club was in a rebuilding phase but he was taken aback about how Ashworth’s exit came about.

“God knows what happened there and what prompted him to leave, but it doesn’t make a good impression on the outside.”

The former United number 15 was then asked to give his two cents on the sale of academy graduate Scott McTominay in the summer.

The Scot has starred at SSC Napoli as they sit second in the Serie A table and Poborsky believes United currently lack characters such as the midfielder.

“It’s a word that has slowly faded away, but for me the last such player, clubman, brawler was Scott McTominay, who was sold to Napoli. Manchester lacks such types.”

Poborsky finished off his comments by claiming that new coach Ruben Amorim could certainly be a hit at Old Trafford but that fans will need to show substantial patience.

“If he gets space from the management, it could work. But it certainly won’t be about months, unfortunately I have to say that it will be more about seasons.”

Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
