Manchester United are yet to get their first win of the 2025/26 season. They lost the first game in the Premier League to Arsenal, drew their second game against Fulham at Craven Cottage and then lost to 4th division side Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.
It has been a disastrous start to Ruben Amorim’s first full season as Man Utd manager. The Portuguese tactician knows that there is a lot of pressure on him to get results this summer, and it has only increased manifold.
There are only a few days left until the transfer window slams shut. Manchester United still have exits to sort out like Jadon Sancho and Antony and it has now emerged that another player is keen on securing an exit from Old Trafford.
Now, as per NY Times, Mainoo has asked to leave Man Utd. He is considering moving elsewhere where he can get regular game time after Ruben Amorim left him on the bench as an unused substitute in the first two Premier League games.
Asking price has been slashed
The academy graduate has explored options in Germany and the United States. Back when Chelsea enquired about the English youngster in January, Man Utd quoted an asking price of around £70m but that price has now been slashed to around to £45m.
The report mentions that this price could potentially drop even further closer to the transfer deadline. Mainoo is considered to be one of the biggest English talents going around and he has a huge future, regardless of where he continues.
Man Utd and Ruben Amorim might not let Mainoo leave this summer, even if he wanted to. It would take away significant squad depth from the options that the Portuguese manager has and might not be a wise choice.
The next few days should provide clarity on the future of Mainoo. There is a good chance he ends up staying and let’s hope that is the case and that he can continue contributing to the Red Devils in the upcoming season.
