Former Man United defender Wes Brown believes that Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi could “excel” if he makes the switch to Old Trafford this summer.
The Foxes’ relegation from the Premier League last season triggered a release clause which means Ndidi can be signed for just £9m. Speaking exclusively to Man U News (courtesy of WhichBookie), Brown said the Nigerian would strengthen the club’s options in midfield:
“I mean, he’s a good player, obviously. He’ll be disappointed that they’ve gone down, and you need players like that in a squad. It’s as simple as that.”
“You need players that can, when asked to do a job, they not only do the job, but can excel in it as well, and at that price, you’ve got to say it’s a good price with the money today, and it’ll be a good addition in that position.”
Man United have limited resources to strengthen 3 positions
The Athletic have reported that head coach Ruben Amorim is still hoping to bring in a holding midfielder, a striker and a goalkeeper following the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.
With the club stepping up their attempts to sign RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who could cost upwards of £60m, there may not be much room left in the budget for the other two positions, unless player sales are made. For that reason, an offer for Ndidi would make a lot of sense if they are seeking a cost-effective solution.
Ndidi is not the only midfielder on the club’s radar
Reports suggest that an approach was made for Amorim’s former Sporting Lisbon captain Morten Hjulmand, but the Denmark international could cost as much as €40m (£35m).
Javi Guerra has also been heavily linked, and the Spaniard could be signed for a lower amount after he rejected a new contract to stay at Valencia.
