Matthijs de Ligt says Manchester United must continue to build momentum following our resounding victory over Leicester City.
Bruno Fernandes, Alejandro Garnacho and a Victor Kristiansen own goal helped ensure the win, as Ruud van Nistelrooy signed off in perfect style following his four-game interim period.
De Ligt, who partnered Lisandro Martinez brilliantly for large parts of the encounter, was proud of our display after we posted a fifth Premier League shutout of the season.
With an international break now providing a platform for Ruben Amorim to build with, the Netherlands international spoke glowingly via MUTV following the full-time whistle in M16.

De Ligt: Risk equals reward
Matthijs was happy with multiple elements of United’s win over Leicester, which included yet another clean sheet…
“Yeah, I think so. What you’re say, three points is really important, three goals scored, clean sheet,” began the 25-year-old.
“These are obviously the most important things. That’s what everybody’s looking at.
“I think in some phases, we were a little bit sloppy today, a little bit easy ball losses also sometimes, and it is where you make it a little bit more difficult for yourself, but what you say in the end, with three zero, you can be only happy.”
De Ligt has been an ever-present since his arrival, and showed coolness personified in thwarting Leicester’s threats across our encounter with the Foxes.
Continuing to impress, the former Bayern Munich man was happy both he and his team-mates could come together as a collective to achieve such a result in front our fans.
“Yeah, that’s so important, because then you know you can make a mistake and that someone else tries to cover it up,” added the United defender.
“It makes you feel more confident, it makes you take a little bit more risk and normally risk gets rewarded.
“So yeah, I think that’s really important in this period, I see the spirit now in a team, that’s really nice, the will to win and survive today.
“It was really good, so hopefully, we can continue like that.”
Having joined the club alongside Noussair Mazraoui, both players have spoken candidly about settling into life in Manchester, with De Ligt providing further insight.
“Yeah, it’s obviously when you come to a new team, it’s always in the beginning a little bit of an adjustment period, I think,” explained Matthijs.
“The problem is that nobody, also from the outside, gives you this time, so it’s not an excuse.
“You have to start from the beginning. I think the new signings, have to say also a big compliment today to Josh, how he came in, like really strong with the ball, perfect.”
“He gave us so much space to breathe and made it so much easier for us.
“So, a big compliment also to him. Manu played an amazing game, and Nous.
“I think Nous and me have a good rhythm of games now. For myself, I start to feel really good, also with the team.
“I start to feel [like I’m] getting in my rhythm, so I’m quite happy with that and if you win, it’s even better.”
