Bruno Fernandes produced a characteristically dynamic performance as Portugal came from behind to beat Germany 2-1 in Munich, in the UEFA Nations League semi-final.

The Manchester United captain, who confirmed in the pre-match press conference that he has rejected an approach from Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, played a part in the move that led to the winning goal, scored by former Reds star Cristiano Ronaldo.

The hosts had taken the lead in the semi-final, through Florian Wirtz’s header, with referee Slavko Vincic deciding not to rule it out after being advised to go to the monitor by VAR.

Francisco Conceicao’s brilliant solo effort soon levelled matters, in any case, before Ronaldo finished off a fine assist by Nuno Mendes.

Referee Slavko Vincic allowed Germany’s goal, despite going to the monitor.

Ronaldo now has a barely believable 137 international goals to his name and, at 40, will hope to help fire Roberto Martinez’s side to a second trophy win in the competition, following their success in 2019.

Portugal will meet either Spain or France in Sunday night’s final, which is being shown live on ITV in the UK.

The other semi-final takes place in Stuttgart, and kicks off at 20:00 BST tonight (Thursday).

Fernandes was caught by a late tackle from Bayer Leverkusen’s Liverpool-linked Wirtz, but overcame the knock and was later involved in a flare-up with West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug.

It was an all-action display by our Portuguese magnifico, who knitted things together impressively for his country and earned good ratings in the nation’s press.

Diogo Dalot was an unused substitute but will hope to be involved in the final, after returning to fitness recently.
