“He could walk away…”: The outrageous cost for United to sack Amorim this summer is unveiled – report

It would reportedly cost Manchester United £20 million to sack Ruben Amorim and his coaching staff due to “water-tight clauses” in their respective contracts.

The Sun reveals the Red Devils’ head coach would receive every penny of the money owed on his remaining two-and-half-year deal due to the iron-clad contract.

Amorim, 40, is believed to earn around £6 million a year, meaning it would cost £12 million to dismiss the Portuguese coach this summer.

However, Amorim brought almost his entire Sporting CP coaching staff when he swapped Lisbon for Manchester in November.

And The Sun reveals these coaches have similarly strong clauses in their contracts.

This means the “total cost of the P45s for Amorim and his coaches hit a whopping £20 million”, should INEOS choose to pull the trigger.

However, the report maintains there is “no suggestion under-fire part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has any plans to dump the Portuguese”, despite the Reds’ dismal form in the Premier League.

United are currently languished in 15th in the table, with a goal difference of -7, having already lost twelve times.

The team is on course for lowest finish in the division’s history, leading Amorim to cynically describe his players as the “worst” United side ever.

The only faint hope for salvaging a shocking season lies in the cup competitions, with United through to the next rounds of the FA Cup and Europa League respectively.

However, there is not thought to be any sense at Old Trafford of a loss in faith of Amorim from the club’s hierarchy.

Instead, they recognise how well the 40-year-old is coping with the pressure and believe he will be able to improve the team if backed in the transfer market this summer.

“Not going…”: Fabrizio Romano rules out United star’s exit, the player is a “perfect fit” in Amorim’s system

Fabrizio Romano has rejected reports linking Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount with a move to Serie A leaders Inter Milan.

Mount, 26, has endured a miserable experience at Old Trafford since completing a £55 million switch from boyhood club Chelsea in 2023.

A series of unrelenting injuries and niggles has meant the English midfielder has been limited to only 32 appearances for the Red Devils across eighteen months of football, scoring and assisting just once in this time.

By comparison, Mount has missed 46 games through issues with his hamstring, calf and thigh.

The varied nature of these injuries offers a worrying insight into the physical problems the 26-year-old has developed since arriving in Manchester, despite both of his managers at United holding him in high regard.

Erik ten Hag brought Mount to Old Trafford and was keen for the versatile midfielder to help transform the Reds into a pressing machine, even if this vision ultimately proved unworkable.

Similarly, replacement Ruben Amorim revealed he “loved” the former Chelsea star after just one training session with his new squad, believing Mount could play in “two positions” in his 3-4-2-1 system.

However, reports this week had linked Mount, currently ruled out with injury, with a shock move to Italy. Inter Milan were reported to be considering an approach this summer to replace former Red Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

But due to the Englishman’s costly salary, the Serie A side would only be “willing to bring him to Milan only on loan with an option to buy and with significant help in paying his salary.” Mount is believed to earn in the region of £250,000 a week at Old Trafford.

Romano has refuted this story, however.

The Italian transfer guru contends “Inter are going in a completely different direction” to players with Mount’s profile: “[Inter] will invest in young players, not on players with crazy contracts.”

“Inter are not going for players like Mason Mount. [There is] nothing really serious there, nothing concrete to report,” Romano concludes.

Amorim is thought to maintain Mount’s work-rate and technical ability makes the 26-year-old a “perfect” fit in his system, with the Cobham graduate’s best season at Stamford Bridge coming under Thomas Tuchel in the exact same formation.

2 key passes, 87% pass accuracy: United loanee returns to form in dominant display

Manchester United’s loanees had a busy night of action on Tuesday night.

Jadon Sancho played 68 minutes of Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Southampton. He was given a score of 7.2 on Sofascore.

The English winger returned to form after numerous poor showings for the London side. He had 43 touches of the ball and completed 87% of his passes.

Two of Sancho’s passes were also classified as key passes, as he created one big chance.

The winger won 100% of his aerial battles and also two out of his four ground duels.

Ethan Williams was also given a start for Cheltenham Town after his impressive goal and assist at the weekend. He played the 90 minutes as his team earned a 2-2 draw against Walsall.

Williams made two key passes in the game but also only completed 54% of his pass attempts.

Only one out of his seven cross attempts found their target. He did manage to create one big chance in the game that his side probably should have buried.

Williams also put in a shift defensively, making three clearances and one tackle.

Rhys Bennett came off the bench for Fleetwood Town as they beat Gillingham Town 2-1 away from home. He played the last 30 minutes and made two clearances and one blocked shot.

The 21 year old also won three out of his five ground duels and 50% of his aerial battles. The centre back also contributed one key pass and completed 100% of his long ball attempts in the match.

Finally, Sam Mather came on for the final eight minutes of Tranmere Rovers’ 0-1 home defeat to Accrington Stanley.

Man Utd insider claims ‘concerned’ staff are worried about star who is ‘becoming a major issue’

The coaching staff at Man Utd are “concerned” about the performances of Andre Onana in recent weeks with the goalkeeper becoming a “major issue”, according to a club insider.

Ruben Amorim’s side are having a terrible time this season with the Red Devils currently 15th in the Premier League table after 26 matches after their 2-2 comeback draw against Everton on Saturday.

Things have got worse at Old Trafford since Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout with Man Utd only winning four of their 15 Premier League matches since the Portuguese head coach arrived.

Onana has started every Premier League match this season for Man Utd with the Red Devils conceding 37 goals in 26 matches in the league this term.

The Cameroon international has made a number of brilliant saves this season but there are staff members apparently worried about his form recently.

Former Man Utd chief scout Mick Brown – who is still well-connected at Old Trafford- insists that the Red Devils coaching staff are “concerned” about Onana’s level of performances with the club refusing to “admit they got it wrong”.

Brown told Football Insider: “The coaching staff concerned about Onana’s performances. He hasn’t been good enough, and it’s becoming a major issue for them.

“The problem is, Onana was supposed to be the long-term solution in that position. They didn’t think De Gea was good enough with the ball at his feet, so they didn’t renew his contract and they went out to buy a new goalkeeper.

“So they ended up going out and paying £50million for Onana. Now, from what I hear, they don’t want to have to go out and spent big money on a new goalkeeper because it’s like admitting they got it wrong with him.

“Can you say at this point he’s £50million better than De Gea was? No chance. But given that’s what he was brought in to be, he’s got to come up with the performances to prove it, and he’s not been doing that.

“There are serious question marks about him because he’s made so many errors that have cost his side or made things far more difficult for them – like against Everton.

“Parrying the ball has been a problem for him, he struggles to push the ball wide which is an important aspect of goalkeeping to relieve pressure. Sometimes he makes saves where you wonder how he pulled it off, so he has to be given credit.

“But does he spread confidence to his defence and the players in front of him? If every time the opposition have a shot from range they’re worried they might be in trouble, then they’ve got serious problems in the side.”

Atletico Madrid prepare shock raid this summer for €60m United star loved by Amorim – report

Atletico Madrid have been linked with a shock swoop for Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

Ugarte, 23, joined the Red Devils last summer after a protracted pursuit of the Uruguayan international eventually led to a £50 million agreement with Paris Saint-Germain (£42.3m up front with a further £8.5m in potential add-ons).

It was an expensive price for a defensively-minded midfielder such as Ugarte, but the paucity of options in the position across Europe meant the number of candidates for the position were limited.

Ugarte had previously shone in Portugal in the heart of Sporting CP under new head coach Ruben Amorim, which meant the 40-year-old’s arrival at Old Trafford to replace Erik ten Hag was a happy coincidence for the midfielder.

Ugarte has a wealth of experience in Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system and his combative, high-energy style is a welcome addition in the United head coach’s vision for his new team.

However, Spanish outlet Fichajes reveals, this is an appreciation shared by Diego Simeone.

The report claims the Atleti manager is prioritising a new defensive midfielder this summer as Los Colchoneros already consider preparations for next season.

“Atlético de Madrid are already thinking about reinforcing their squad for next season, and one of Diego Simeone ‘s priorities is the addition of a central midfielder who not only provides defensive solidity, but also has the ability to distribute the play with precision.”

Three targets have reportedly been identified for the role: Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, both linked with moves to Arsenal as well, are one and two on Simeone’s list, while Ugarte is the third.

“Finally, Uruguayan Manuel Ugarte is also on Atlético’s wish list. The Manchester United player is not having the expected prominence at Old Trafford, which could facilitate his departure in the next transfer window,” Fichajes reveals.

Atletico have previously been linked with a move for Ugarte with the 23-year-old’s relentless work rate and strong pressing and ball recovery skills the perfect compliment to Simeone’s philosophy.

Whether Amorim would be willing to give up such a familiar face at Old Trafford among a sea of unfamiliar ones is an entirely different story. The Peoples Person would cast a dubious eye over this potential exit for Ugarte in the summer.

1 goal, 100% pass completion: United Women star makes dramatic impact from bench for her country

Numerous members of Manchester United Women’s team were on international duty last night in the Nations League.

Elisabeth Terland and Celin Bizet made a dramatic contribution to Norway’s 2-1 win over Switzerland.

Both players came on as substitutes in the 73rd minute and combined wonderfully just two minutes later to give their country the lead.

Bizet broke onto a ball played forward and managed to steer the ball away from the onrushing Swiss keeper. She found her club teammate Terland who shifted her body well and poked in a first time finish into an empty net.

The 23 year old was given a score of 7.6 on Sofascore for her contribution and she also completed two out of her three dribble attempts. She also made 100% of her passes on the night.

Bizet contributed an assist in her 17 minutes of action and also completed one out of her three dribble attempts. She had 15 touches of the ball but only completed 60% of her passes.

Dominique Janssen played the entire 90 minutes for the Netherlands in their 2-1 away win against Scotland.

The Dutch international was playing in the unfamiliar role of left back but managed her assignment quite well.

She made five clearances and also won one tackle. The 30 year old also had 98 touches of the ball and completed an impressive 87% of her passes.

It was not such a positive night for the Republic of Ireland’s Aoife Mannion whose side fell to a disappointing 4-0 loss to Slovenia.

The 29 year old failed to make any clearances in the match and could only manage one interception and one tackle as the Irish defence could not live with the Slovenian attack.

She also lost her only aerial duel and was unsuccessful in four out of her five ground battles. Mannion lost the ball 21 times in an all-round poor performance from the experienced defender.

Ten Hag gives shocking update about his managerial future in first major interview since United sacking

Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has revealed that his future may lie away from football management.

The Dutchman was sacked in October last year but he was quickly linked to other jobs such as the Borussia Dortmund head coaching role and also a return to the Netherlands with Feyenoord.

Nonetheless, the former United manager has been insistent that he will not take another job until the summer as he takes his time to rest after an exhausting two years as United manager.

The 55 year old did win the Carabao Cup and FA Cup with the Red Devils but his side’s league form fell off a cliff in his second and third season in charge, as his recruitment was heavily criticised with deals such as the Antony and Casemiro transfers taking the most flak.

In an interview with SEG Stories (via The Daily Mail) he claimed that he may not even return to football management.

When asked about his future he retorted, “there are so many other things I could do. Maybe in football, in a new position as a manager. That’s an option. And maybe something completely different.”

Ten Hag then revealed that he has been in work since October but in a very different field to football or sport.

“I’ve been working with my brothers lately. We have our own company. Or rather: they have their own company. But we also run a company together with our father. That’s also something I love to do I can now give that more attention and it’s also a lot of fun.”

The former United manager comes from one of the wealthiest family in the Netherlands due to his families successful real estate business that was set up by his father in 1967.

“The family also owns several finance firms, with Ten Hag’s brothers Michel and Rico running them.”

The Peoples Person has also relayed that Ten Hag revealed in the interview that he struggled to deal with the younger generation during his time at Old Trafford due to their perceived inability to handle criticism.

He also opened up on how he felt appreciated by the United fans after winning two trophies, especially the FA Cup last May against Manchester City.

Liverpool embarrassed by ‘too old’ record-breaker while Salah chases even more history

Mo Salah has the most Premier League goals ever for one age and the Liverpool forward is close to setting the bar for another, just like Graham Alexander.

Most Premier League goals as a 16-year-old – James Milner (2)
Three players have scored in the Premier League at the age of 16. But while James Vaughan and Wayne Rooney did so just once, Milner raised the bar. He followed his first goal on Boxing Day 2002 in a 2-1 win over Sunderland by helping Leeds to a 2-0 victory over Chelsea two days later, a whole week before his 17th birthday.

And he is still winning pre-season lactate tests going while Everton loans pathway manager Vaughan and former Plymouth boss Rooney both retired in 2021.

Most Premier League goals as a 17-year-old – Wayne Rooney (6)
It was just five days before the forward turned 17 that the delightful Clive Tyldesley implored us to “remember the name” of Rooney. He certainly ensured it would be difficult to forget, netting five more times in 2002/03 and then in the first month of the following season before reaching voting age to set a mark that may never be beaten.

Ethan Nwaneri has come as close as anyone but even his three goals at 17 are only halfway there before his next birthday in late March.

Most Premier League goals as an 18-year-old – Michael Owen (23)
Few 18-year-olds have ever captivated football on such a global stage as film connoisseur Owen, who spent perhaps the best 12 months of his entire career terrorising Argentina, being voted fourth in the Ballon d’Or, becoming the youngest ever Premier League Golden Boot winner and hat-trick scorer, and throwing apple cores in bins placed weirdly close to the TV.

To underline just how impressive the numbers are, Francis Jeffers is second with 12 and his entire Premier League career goals total of 25 was almost beaten by Owen’s efforts for Liverpool at 18 alone.

Most Premier League goals as a 19-year-old – Robbie Fowler (25)
Ten Premier League goals at the age of 18 were simply the precursor to 25 as a 19-year-old for Fowler – including what was the fastest hat-trick in competition history for almost 21 years until Sadio Mane (and Aston Villa’s defence) came along.

Nicolas Anelka (16), Rooney (15) and Romelu Lukaku (14) are distant chasers.

Most Premier League goals as a 20-year-old – Robbie Fowler (29)
There is a reason Fowler was only the second player to ever win consecutive PFA Young Player of the Year awards. The forward scored 64 of his 163 total Premier League goals before he turned 21. He really was incredible.

Most Premier League goals as a 21-year-old – Harry Kane and Cole Palmer (21)
The honour was once passed from Michael Bridges to Yakubu Aiyegbeni before Kane one-season-wondered his way through the 2014/15 campaign.

No-one came especially close to matching that tally – Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli both scored 15 while Marcus Rashford mustered 14 – until Palmer put together one of the more ridiculous years of individual Premier League brilliance largely from mid-table.

Most Premier League goals as a 22-year-old – Erling Haaland (36)
The 33 goals Andy Cole plundered for Newcastle at 22 – at least eight more than any other player ever – felt almost insurmountable for three decades. But it was one of many records Haaland goal-botted out of existence in 2022/23.

Most Premier League goals as a 23-year-old – Alan Shearer (31)
Already well into his 20s by the time the Premier League invented football, Shearer missed out on the chance to set even higher benchmarks. But he rectified that almost immediately with 16 goals in the inaugural season at the age of 22, and almost double that tally as a 23-year-old.

Kane (29) and Haaland (27) pushed him close. But neither of them have ever been called a c*** by Gary Lineker (as far as we’re aware).

Most Premier League goals as a 24-year-old – Alan Shearer (34)
“Pressure? What pressure? Pressure is for tyres,” Shearer presumably shouted in the face of a bemused Stuart Ripley while firing Blackburn to the Premier League title.

It remains a bit weird that a random member of that squad is now one of the most influential paperclip-counters at the biggest cost-cutting operation in world football.

Most Premier League goals as a 25-year-old – Mohamed Salah (32)
For an absolute age it was yet another Shearer hat-trick, the great man having scored 31 Premier League goals at the age of 25. But in his first Liverpool season Salah was as ludicrous then as he is almost a decade later. Being told you are not Salomon Rondon does something to a man.

Most Premier League goals as a 26-year-old – Kevin Phillips (30)
Very much the polar bear in Arlington, Texas of a top ten rounded out by Luis Suarez, Thierry Henry (both 29), Sergio Aguero (26), Carlos Tevez, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Shearer (all 25), Salah (22), Bruno Fernandes (21) and Rooney (20).

The most absurd individual season in Premier League history? Perhaps. Phillips scored 32.6% of his career top-flight goals at 26 for newly-promoted Sunderland to earn himself a European Golden Shoe under Peter Reid.

Most Premier League goals as a 27-year-old – Thierry Henry (26)
Already an Invincible by the time he turned 27, Henry ensured he became the first player to officially retain that European Golden Shoe with some similarly sparkling performances in 2004/05.

He finished that season with 25 goals and 14 assists – and it wasn’t even in the top two of most dominant campaigns he inflicted upon Premier League defences. Cue that funny mouth twitch he does.

READ MORE2024/25 Mo Salah to join Thierry Henry? Top ten individual seasons in Premier League history

Most Premier League goals as a 28-year-old – Les Ferdinand (32)
Not only does that record spans two seasons, it covers spells at different clubs with a £6m transfer from QPR to Newcastle in between. And Vinnie Jones was the keeper for one of those goals, the last in a hat-trick against Wimbledon after Ferdinand helped get Paul Heald sent off. That is heritage.

Most Premier League goals as a 29-year-old – Harry Kane (30)
It was Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink (28) for the longest time but Kane poured his soul into his final Tottenham season to inspire them to *checks notes* eighth in the Premier League, the most lifeless of Champions League knockout stage exits to AC Milan and early elimination from both domestic cups. It’s a wonder he left.

Most Premier League goals as a 30-year-old – Ian Wright (27)
The standard-bearer for late career blossoming, Wright was for years held as proof that Premier League life can begin at 30. His haul included consecutive hat-tricks away at Ipswich and Southampton, a feat he could probably still achieve at 61 considering their struggles.

Most Premier League goals as a 31-year-old – Alan Shearer (23)
“Pressure? What pressure? Pressure is for tyres,” Shearer presumably shouted in the face of a bemused Clarence Acuna while firing Newcastle to Champions League qualification.

Most Premier League goals as a 32-year-old – Jamie Vardy (28)
Didier Drogba might have deemed it a job well done in setting the bar at 19 goals, beating Wright’s 18 which stood for quite some time. But this season alone Chris Wood took his tally to 20 while Salah, with the rest of a laughable season remaining before he turns 33 in June, is currently on 25.

It doesn’t seem likely that the Egyptian is doing it on an exclusive diet of Red Bull and Skittles vodka either.

Most Premier League goals as a 33-year-old – Alan Shearer and Ian Wright (22)
That feels fitting and it was probably all they spoke about behind the scenes on Match of the Day, obviously before Lineker jokingly called one of them something vulgar.

Most Premier League goals as a 34-year-old – Teddy Sheringham and Glenn Murray (16)
A Manchester United signing at 31, a Treble-winner at 33, and the oldest PFA Player of the Year award winner at 35 after a stellar 2000/01 season aged 34. But even Sheringham would have to admit Murray’s mint.

Most Premier League goals as a 35-year-old – Zlatan Ibrahimovic (13)
“As I said when I was in England, you’re lucky I didn’t come 10 years ago, because if I did what I did at 35 years old, imagine it if I was 25,” said Ibrahimovic a year or so after his brief dalliance with the Premier League ended.

He once complained about having £1 deducted on his payslip for having a fruit juice from the hotel mini-bar before an away game. He and Sir Jim Ratcliffe would have got on famously.

Most Premier League goals as a 36-year-old – Gianfranco Zola (14)
The “clever little so-and-so” who “annoyed” Sir Alex Ferguson was already 30 when he made his career-defining move to Chelsea. But the Blues squeezed seven seasons out of the little genius, whose parting gift was to be their top scorer in the Roman Abramovich-baiting 2002/03 season.

Most Premier League goals as a 37-year-old – Cristiano Ronaldo (11)
It felt like Teddy Sheringham and his ten goals would never be beaten, especially when he became the oldest player to score three times in a single Premier League game in a 4-0 win over Bolton in what should only ever be described as a gerihat-trick.

But then Ronaldo decided to personally set Manchester United back another few years while meticulously torching his prospects of playing in Europe ever again, admittedly while scoring a few goals along the way.

Most Premier League goals as a 38-year-old – Graham Alexander (6)
Alexander Graham Bell might have invented the telephone, but Graham Alexander invented being bloody sick at penalties.

Ryan Giggs and Stuart Pearce are the only other players to have scored more than once in the Premier League at 38. Vardy has a couple of months left to add to his solitary strike, which inevitably came against Spurs.

Most Premier League goals as a 39-year-old – Teddy Sheringham (6)
Liverpool refused to sanction a move for Sheringham
because “at the age of 27 or whatever” he was deemed “too old to be a good investment”. So of course he continued to score with relative frequency for another decade or so.

Only four other players have scored in the Premier League aged 39: Dean Windass, Ashley Young (both once), Ryan Giggs (twice) and Thiago Silva (three times).

Most Premier League goals as a 40-year-old – Teddy Sheringham (2)
Only one player has scored in the Premier League after turning 40; just four outfielders have even played in the competition at such an age and Giggs, Phillips and Gordon Strachan could not keep up with Teddy.

Amorim will axe these two struggling stars vs Ipswich, it will be like having an extra man – prediction

Ruben Amorim said in the pre-match press conference that it will be the same squad for tonight’s Premier League clash with Ipswich Town as the one that drew at Everton on Saturday.

That could however not include Sekou Koné, who played for the Under 21s last night.

With Altay Bayindir still unavailable, Andre Onana will undoubtedly start in goal. Tom Heaton is also still injured so despite the Cameroonian’s indifferent form, Amorim is unlikely to drop him and risk a young keeper like Elyh Harrison or Hubert Graczyk.

We predicted Diogo Dalot could be rested for the Everton game and we are predicting the same again after another shaky performance from the Portuguese at Goodison.

Leny Yoro should come in at centre back and Noussair Mazraoui will take over at right wing back, with Patrick Dorgu staying at left wing back.

Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans are still injured. Ayden Heaven and Victor Lindelof are backup options. Luke Shaw is also still unavailable and Amad, another wing back, is out for the season.

Saturday’s Casemiro-Ugarte midfield pivot was not successful, with the former a passenger for much of the game, so we expect the Brazilian to make way.

Bruno Fernandes could play alongside the Uruguayan, especially as a more attacking line-up is called for in a home game against a relegation-threatened side.

Christian Eriksen is another option in central midfield, but Toby Collyer is still out.

Up front, in the absence of Amad and Mason Mount, we expect Josh Zirkzee and Alejandro Garnacho to support Rasmus Hojlund.

Amorim spoke a lot in the pre-match presser about his faith in the Danish striker.

Young Chido Obi may again get some minutes off the bench.

Here, then, is our predicted XI for tonight’s 7.30pm GMT kick-off:

Red Billy is the managing editor of The Peoples Person, author of three books and totally obsessed with football’s transfer market. Billy still insists Matteo Darmian and Alex Telles could have made it at United given half a chance.

“I could still play there”: United cult hero suggests he can do a better job than £100m underperforming duo

Manchester United’s forward players have disappointed big time this season with the Red Devils currently the fifth-lowest scorers in the Premier League.

Rasmus Hojlund has been the biggest disappointment, managing only two goals in the English top-flight this term and is currently without a goal in his last 16 games.

Summer signing Joshua Zirkzee has been inconsistent at best, with Ruben Amorim admitting that the Dutchman is not a natural No 9.

With Marcus Rashford no longer at the club, Amad out for the season and Alejandro Garnacho’s finishing letting him down, the onus is on the aforementioned duo, signed for a combined £100 million, to come up with goals but they have failed spectacularly so far.

United’s underperforming strike force

Plenty have pointed to the lack of service they receive but in the Dane’s case, he seems to be more interested in physical duels with opposition centre-backs instead of trying to outsmart them.

Former United cult hero Federico Macheda, scorer of “that” winner against Aston Villa back in 2009, has been asked about what he feels about the current United forward line.

Called the “best finisher in the club” by legendary former boss Sir Alex Ferguson, the Italian refused to be too critical of Hojlund and Zirkzee but did admit that he could do a better job than them at the moment.

“Now? At 33? I think I could play there. Yes. Do better? I don’t know. I must say it’s not easy to play for Manchester United now but I think I could still play there,” he told The Sun.

“Personally, I like Zirkzee and Hojlund. The club is under pressure. The situation is not easy for any striker, even if you put Lewandowski in the team.

“But as a player, I can see myself playing there at the moment. A couple of games if Ruben Amorim needs me! I know the Premier League level. It’s very difficult but I could play there. Why not?”

Currently playing his trade for Greek outfit Asteras Tripolis, the 33-year-old admitted that he still keeps tabs on his former club and just like United fans, he is also hurt after seeing the club’s current predicament.

However, he backed Amorim to get the club back to the top and urged INEOS to back the Portuguese tactician, asking for a complete reset at the club by bringing in young talents instead of going after big names, as was the norm a while back.

Macheda backs Amorim

“I like Amorim even if you don’t see the results, maybe sometimes they play bad football. It’s difficult because for a club to be successful, you need great players.

“United doesn’t have the team at the moment to win the Premier League. They have good players but if you put any coach in, it wouldn’t change a lot. There are only a few leaders: Bruno, Maguire, Lisandro. But it’s not enough.

“Maybe the others are not ready to play for this club. Amorim should keep the legacy and history at Manchester United going by rebuilding like they used to with young players. Then I believe the wind will change.

“If they trust Amorim and give him time, bring in the right players and change some things in the club like the bad mentality, I believe Manchester United will be back in two to three years.”

Fans will hope Macheda’s words ring true in the next couple of years.
