Tug of war erupts between two arch-rivals for Mason Greenwood, United watching with interest – BBC

With Manchester United set to return to the Champions League after a two-season hiatus, INEOS have massive plans in the transfer market. It is well known that a midfield revamp is in the works, but the Red Devils are also looking at strengthening at the back and out wide. And for all this to pan out, the co-owners will need to sell well with the futures of several stars up in the air. In recent years, the 20-time English league champions have inserted smart sell-on clauses into deals, which would net them millions in the future. Mason Greenwood set to depart Marseille One such clause could come into effect this summer, with the future of Mason Greenwood the subject of speculation in France. The Carrington graduate secured a £26.6 million move to Olympique Marseille, but with their manager Roberto De Zerbi leaving for Tottenham Hotspur, the Englishman is also keen to leave for pastures new. There is interest from within the Premier League and Italy, and now, the BBC have reported that Fenerbahce have joined the race for the 24-year-old. Interestingly, both of Fenerbahce’s presidential candidates want to sign the former United wonderkid. Despite a goal-laden Ligue 1 spell, Marseille are also open to a sale. Fenerbahce presidential candidates fighting over Mason Greenwood Fenerbahce will not find it difficult to agree personal terms with the England international, but a fee has not been mentioned in the report. “Mason Greenwood is the top transfer target for Fenerbahce’s two presidential candidates. The former Manchester United and England forward has had a difficult few months at Marseille. “Their new sporting director Gregory Lorenzi said last week the club was willing to listen to offers for Greenwood, who has three years remaining on the five-year deal he signed when he left United on a permanent basis in July 2024. “Former president Aziz Yildirim is vying with Hakan Safi for the club presidency of the Turkish club, with an announcement due on Sunday. It is not anticipated personal terms would be a problem in trying to sign Greenwood.” United will be watching proceedings with interest, as they are entitled to a 50 per cent share of the profits of a future sale, which means they will earn millions in case of a big-money move. United hopeful of completing bargain deal for 80m playmaker who wants dream Old Trafford move – report

United hopeful of completing bargain deal for 80m playmaker who wants dream Old Trafford move – report

Manchester United have been rocked by West Ham United’s refusal to budge on their demand for maestro Mateus Fernandes, despite internal hopes of a cut-price deal, according to a new report. Premier League Tax The Red Devils are planning an overhaul of their midfield unit this summer, with at least two – potentially three if Manuel Ugarte is sold – new signings set to arrive at Old Trafford. The priority is a ‘marquee’ replacement for Casemiro, whose contract expires this month, in the No.6 position. An all-action No.8 and a cheaper option with high upside are also wanted. The primary targets are Nottingham Forest talisman Elliot Anderson and Real Madrid superstar Aurélien Tchouaméni, though deals for either are unlikely at this stage. Sandro Tonali is another highly rated candidate with the requisite balance of physical and technical qualities that United’s hierarchy are focusing on. However, Newcastle United’s demand of £100 million to part with the Italian has cooled interest. It is a similar case with Carlos Baleba, Brighton & Hove Albion’s 22-year-old enforcer with whom United agreed personal terms last year. The Seagulls’ refusal to budge on their valuation – similar to Newcastle’s stance – after a major downturn in form has deterred the Cameroonian’s suitors. This has led to Fernandes rapidly emerging as a priority target for United, given West Ham United’s relegation was expected to lead to a cut-price deal as they need to raise up to £150 million in sales. But the old adage of ‘Premier League tax’ has reared its ugly head again, as the Hammers are intent on demanding “up to £80 million” to sign the 21-year-old Portugal international, The Times reveals. Playing Hardball United are considered frontrunners for Fernandes after holding productive talks with the player’s camp. It is understood that he has communicated a strong desire to complete a switch to M16, even ahead of offers from other top clubs, with sources revealing he considers it a “dream move”. Both Champions League finalists – Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain – have made advances, while there is interest from Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle United. Initially, it was believed a fee in the region of £60 million would be sufficient if West Ham were unable to avoid the drop, putting Fernandes within INEOS’s budget. A different report by The Times writes: “United are also hopeful of completing the signing of the West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, for about £40 million, after their relegation to the Championship”. However, the East London side appear well aware of the prodigious talent they have in their ranks and want to be properly compensated if forced to lose the youngster, with the asking price set at double United’s estimate. The £38 million deal which brought him to the London Stadium from Southampton last summer included a 15% sell-on clause, further emboldening this negotiating position. Final Thoughts Despite possessing a well-rounded skillset with the scope to grow into an outstanding midfielder, Fernandes remains a work in progress. An £80 million outlay on potential is one a club like Paris Saint-Germain can afford, both on and off the pitch; United simply cannot. If West Ham stick to their guns and spark a bidding war that sees the price rocket for the Olhão native, the Red Devils will be forced to move on from yet another key target in their attempt to fix their stalling engine room. But if Fernandes actively pushes to complete his ‘dream’ move to the Theatre of Dreams, perhaps United can leverage the Hammers towards a midway point in the £60m range, a fee more in line with a 21-year-old talent. Another bomb squad on the horizon as United duo INEOS are desperate to sell “ready to return” for pre-season – report

Another bomb squad on the horizon as United duo INEOS are desperate to sell “ready to return” for pre-season – report

It could be déjà vu for Manchester United amid their struggle to sell two high-earning stars ahead of pre-season. It has been well documented that Barcelona have been been employing various tactics to avoid triggering Marcus Rashford’s £26m buy option despite his impressive loan spell. From suggesting another loan, to requesting to pay in instalments, and now preparing to pay only half of the above amount, it is clear that the Catalans are trying to lowball the Red Devils. They have already signed Anthony Gordon from Newcastle, and are closing in on deals for Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez, trying to push United into accepting a cut-price fee. Uncertainty surrounding the future of Rashford INEOS have stood firm and are even prepared to sell to other suitors, hoping to earn a higher fee. However, they would prefer not to strengthen a direct Premier League rival, amid interest from Arsenal, Chelsea, and even Newcastle. The 20-time English league champions will be hoping for the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid to come calling soon. As for Andre Onana, Trabzonspor are keen to agree a loan deal for the Cameroonian, but INEOS will only accept if his wages are paid in full. No permanent resolution in sight for Onana Once again, they would prefer to sell the goalkeeper, amid interest from Besiktas, but his wages could prove to be a problem. Barcelona have until June 15 to trigger the option, after which the forward will need to report back to Carrington. Onana’s deal is valid until June 30. According to The Daily Mail, both players are ready to return to Manchester to report for pre-season, a scenario United are keen to avoid. Last summer, Ruben Amorim had created a bomb squad full of exiled stars, with the whole arrangement creating unwanted headlines and distracting the players ahead of the start of the new campaign. United would prefer to avoid the same scenario as last summer “If United cannot find Rashford a new club before he is due to start pre-season training after the World Cup, then he will return to Carrington. Last summer, the player was part of a ‘bomb squad’ that also included Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia, although it’s unclear how United would handle the situation again. “It would appear to be in the best interests of both parties to avoid that scenario even though, ironically, United are in the market for a left winger. “Goalkeeper Andre Onana finds himself in a similar position after a season on loan at Trabzonspor which ended with him helping the club to win the Turkish Cup. “Onana has no future at United after being replaced by Senne Lammens, who was voted as the Premier League’s signing of the season on Monday, but is ready to return for pre-season next month if his future is unresolved.” After a third-place Premier League finish, spirits are high in the United camp, and Michael Carrick will be eager to avoid negative headlines. Hopefully, INEOS can address this before it becomes yet another unwanted saga. United eyeing 6’3″ Chelsea star, transfer decision already made in London after multiple approaches – report

Manchester United and Chelsea have shown little reluctance to trade players despite their fierce on-field rivalry. In recent years, United have signed Mason Mount from the Blues, while Chelsea have attempted to strengthen their attack by signing Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho. Now, the Red Devils are eyeing another Chelsea academy graduate. However, this time, the mood in London is less welcoming.  Manchester United interested in Josh Acheampong According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Manchester United admire Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong. The 20-year-old versatile Englishman is capable of playing across the defence. He is regarded as an ideal modern defender, owing to his towering 6ft 3in frame and technical ability in possession. Apart from United, Acheampong is reportedly appreciated by Manchester City and Bayern Munich. However, Jacobs claims that Chelsea have rejected approaches from multiple clubs in England and Europe for their highly rated defender. Meanwhile, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has specified that two Premier League clubs tried to sign Acheampong. Acheampong, who made 17 Premier League appearances last term, is tied to Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2029. Chelsea apparently consider him untouchable and want the youngster to be an important part of Xabi Alonso’s plans. Marcus Rashford eyeing Chelsea Interestingly, Marcus Rashford could become part of Alonso’s new project next season. According to The Daily Mail, the United loanee’s desire is to continue at Barcelona, but if circumstances force him out, Chelsea are one of the clubs his entourage believe could come knocking if the price is right. Rashford would certainly be an upgrade on his former teammate Garnacho, who has struggled to find his feet at Chelsea. Manchester United star Marcus Rashford appears determined to put his club insecurities behind him by focusing on World Cup preparations for England. With Barcelona reportedly moving on to other targets such as Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez, all indications are that the Mancunian will be forced to leave Camp Nou despite a superb loan stint. United have no place for their former talisman at Old Trafford, and are keen to move him on, hoping to secure a higher fee from elsewhere. They would prefer not to sell to a direct Premier League rival amid interest from Arsenal, Chelsea and even Newcastle. Marcus Rashford determined to impress at the World Cup Amid all this, the Englishman has been spotted training with United Under-18 coach Colin Little at United legend Sir David Beckham’s Inter Miami. 🇺🇸 Marcus Rashford, training at Inter Miami training facilities these days. 📈 Rashford, getting ready for the World Cup — while club keeps emerging on international level also for their structures as global hub for players/athletes. pic.twitter.com/X0fxeSOBwG — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) May 31, 2026 According to The Sun, the 28-year-old is putting in the hard yards as he is desperate to make a positive impression on Thomas Tuchel ahead of the World Cup. The Three Lions boss had asked all his players to plan their holidays in and around the United States to get acclimatised to the weather, and Marcus Rashford is doing just that. “MARCUS RASHFORD got a head start on his England team-mates after answering Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup rallying cry. United connection: Marcus Rashford training with U-18 coach at David Beckham’s club “Rashford arrived in the United States early after Tuchel called for his 26-man squad to holiday in American time zones before the tournament. Many players are understood to have spent the off-season in the States or Caribbean after Tuchel stressed the importance of acclimatising. “Rashford flew into Florida and trained at David Beckham‘s Inter Miami training complex with a private coach. The Barcelona winger shared a snap of his shooting practice, notably under the watchful eye of a coach dressed in Manchester United gear. “Rashford has worked privately with United coach Colin Little since his breakthrough in 2016. Former non-league striker Little is now Darren Fletcher‘s assistant for the Under-18s but has helped Rashford work on his finishing over the years.” United hoping for a permanent resolution A positive World Cup might see Barca change their stance or could encourage more teams to submit a bid. United will be hoping for such a scenario to materialise as they cannot afford to keep paying the forward’s wages. The England international‘s sale will count as pure profit due to his academy background, giving INEOS all the more reason to push for a permanent resolution this summer. United leading the race for one of Europe’s “best young midfielders” poised to light up the World Cup – Sky Sports

Manchester United hope to have assembled a formidable midfield by the time the 2026-27 Premier League campaign kicks off. Other than replacing Casemiro, there is a dire need to improve United’s engine room. While it has been decent, it can certainly become world-class with the right signings. Atalanta’s Brazilian midfielder Ederson is expected to be United’s first midfield signing. After the Samba star, at least two other midfielders are expected to follow. Names are being thrown around, and now Sky Sports is claiming that Ayyoub Bouaddi is one of the serious options to watch out for. Bouaddi links Bouaddi, one of Europe’s finest young midfielders, is a player United have long been linked with. The Ligue 1 prodigy is emerging as a press-resistant, elegant midfield controller who dictates tempo with composure and glides past pressure with deceptive ball-carrying ability. At just 18, he is the type of player who, if signed, could lock down your engine room for years to come. Sky Sports reporting: “Ayyoub Bouaddi: Lille’s 18-year-old midfielder is being tracked by top clubs across Europe, one of which is Manchester United. The teenager may have a lot more eyes on him after the World Cup, where he is representing Morocco.” Bouaddi’s links will certainly excite United fans who have watched him play. World Cup to present the perfect chance to see what Bouaddi is all about The World Cup, where he will represent Morocco, should open many eyes to his abilities. That said, the concern surrounding a move for the versatile Lille man, who can operate as either a six or an eight, is that it could jeopardise a move for exciting Premier League-proven midfielders. After Ederson, United are expected to sign a marquee midfielder, with Sandro Tonali, Elliot Anderson, and Aurelien Tchouameni among the leading candidates. Beyond that, a further midfield addition is anticipated, with Mateus Fernandes, Carlos Beleba, and Hayden Hackney all falling into that category. Signing Bouaddi, however, could rule out a move for one of those exciting young talents. End up like Arsenal: Ex-Liverpool ace explains why United must abandon pursuit of 43m superstar

Manchester United are stepping up their transfer activity after a fruitful end to the 2025/26 season. The Red Devils banked on Michael Carrick’s Midas touch to secure third place in the Premier League table and ensure qualification for the Champions League. The English giants’ return to the premier European club competition next season gives them a strong hand in the transfer window. Recent reports have suggested that United are close to securing the signature of Ederson from Atalanta to fill the outgoing Casemiro’s shoes. However, INEOS are unlikely to stop at the Brazilian, with more additions planned this summer. While the midfield is likely to take centre stage, the Red Devils also remain on the hunt for attacking additions. A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person states that the Premier League giants are hot on the heels of AC Milan speedster Rafael Leao. Leao wants to leave AC Milan Leao is a product of the fabled Sporting academy, but failed to cement a place in the club’s senior side. He subsequently moved to Lille in the summer of 2018 before catching AC Milan’s eye. The Rossoneri came calling the following year, and the Portuguese has since become a household name following his exploits in Serie A. This season, however, he was part of a team that struggled, ended up fifth in the league, and subsequently missed out on next season’s Champions League. Leao ended the campaign with 10 goals and three assists in 31 games across all competitions, 25 of which were starts. With United looking for a speedy left winger this summer, Leao has emerged as an option. Recent reports have suggested that the Rossoneri are ready to let him go for just £43 million. It has also been reported that the player, who has openly professed his love for United, is eager to move to the Premier League. However, former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders has warned the Red Devils against a move for the 26 year old. United warned against Leao move Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show, Saunders appeared to question Leao’s attitude, insisting that United cannot afford to sign the wrong player this summer. He said: “Every Man United signing right now is critical. With the mistakes they’ve made over the last ten years, they’ve got to get it right.” “Has he got a good attitude? I’d just sign him, he’s obviously a decent player, but what’s his attitude like? You can’t let him in the door if he’s got a bad attitude.” “Man United are getting better, the players (Bryan) Mbeumo, (Matheus) Cunha they’ve signed, they’re better than the players they’ve had who were just picking their wages up. Lazy. You’ve got to sign the right attitude and the club will end up like Arsenal are now. Good attitude in the club.” Former Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling agreed with the Welshman, adding: “I’ve never been convinced with him. Milan have had a miserable season by their standards. He’s got ten goals, which is OK.” Saunders went on to explain why he would not want Leao at Old Trafford, concluding: “Do you score goals? If you score goals, do you work hard? If you do both, come and sign for me. I’ve not seen enough of him, so I’m going to swipe left.” Final Thoughts While United could do with more firepower in their attack in anticipation of a busy season, it is also true that INEOS cannot afford to disrupt the dressing room with a bad apple. The Red Devils did a great job of offloading the deadwood last summer and must ensure they only sign players with the right attitude this year as well. Newcastle line up surprise swoop for “fantastic” United star, Wilcox is prepared to do business – report

The number of clubs interested in signing Marcus Rashford should FC Barcelona and Manchester United fail to strike a deal is growing by the day. The Magpies are circling In the Premier League, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with moves for the 28-year-old if he returns to Old Trafford this month. Further afield, Bayern Munich have been floated as a suitor after losing out on Anthony Gordon to Barcelona – a £70 million move which has made Rashford’s prospect of remaining in Catalonia even more remote. But in an interesting twist, it has also caused another club to throw their hat into the ring for his services: Newcastle United. The Magpies are now accelerating plans to sign a left-winger to replace Gordon, with Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo identified as a potential replacement, though the Red Devils are also said to be interested in the 21-year-old Belgian. As an alternative, the Daily Mirror reveals Newcastle are “keeping close tabs” on Rashford’s situation at the Camp Nou. If he was to become available, a cut-price deal would be of interest at St James’ Park. Rashford’s preference is clear Rashford is desperate to remain a Barcelona player next season – a decision Blaugrana boss Hansi Flick is also pushing for, after the “fantastic” England international returned 14 goals and 14 assists under his watch. But the Spanish giants, who successfully defended their La Liga title, are trying to “renegotiate the terms of the deal” struck with Manchester United last summer. A £26m buy-option, valid until June 15, was included, which Barca are trying to either drive the price down or agree another loan. United’s hierarchy are said to have become “exasperated” with negotiations, and are now “considering turning their backs on the Catalan outfit and selling the 28-year-old to someone else instead.” However, the report states that Rashford is “not interested” in a switch to Newcastle or Tottenham, instead preferring to join a top club if his Camp Nou dream comes to an end. United are “reluctant to sell” to a club like Arsenal, though there is growing acceptance that a permanent exit to a direct rival is a better option than the Wythenshawe native – and his £325,000 a week salary – returning to M16. Rashford’s refusal to entertain Tyneside as an option will be doubly frustrating for INEOS as both Sandro Tonali and Lewis Hall are high on the radar to bolster Michael Carrick’s squad this summer. If the forward were open to joining Eddie Howe’s side, it may have set up the prospect of using him as a makeweight for either target. But, as became customary during his final months at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim, Rashford is simply refusing to play ball. Arsenal offered the chance to hijack United’s dream move for magical 43m winger – report

A left winger signing is one Manchester United are poised to make. While there are options for the position, there are no natural left-wingers at the club. Alejandro Garnacho, after Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho departed through the exit doors last summer, ensured that was the case. Under Ruben Amorim, the absence of such a profile posed no issue; he did not rely on wingers. However, reverting to a winger-based system after Amorim’s sacking quickly exposed that gap. There are excellent transfer options available, but surely, among them, Rafael Leao stands out as arguably the most exciting. Leao transfer opportunity Leao has confirmed he is leaving AC Milan, with his admission coming just days after he confessed he follows United closely. Naturally, Leao-to-United transfer links have re-emerged in full force, and while all eyes were on INEOS to strike a deal for his services, an interesting update has now emerged. Leao offered to a direct rival The Times, reporting on Arsenal’s transfer activity, claims the Gunners have “been offered Rafael Leao, of AC Milan.” While the report does not specify whether Arsenal will take up that opportunity, Manchester United fans will be hoping they do not. Leao, as United’s left winger, could completely unlock the Red Devils’ attack, helping revive both Amad and Mbeumo in the process. INEOS should do everything to bring the Portuguese whiz on board, securing the quality winger option they crave while denying rivals the chance to sign a player Zlatan Ibrahimovic himself dubbed magical. That said, Leao has not been at his absolute best for Milan in recent months. He could benefit from a move away. Much like Ousmane Dembele reinvented himself at Paris Saint-Germain after looking lost at Barcelona, Leao could rediscover that spark under a fresh challenge. Manchester United are plotting a raid on their noisy neighbours in the blue half of the city for 16-year-old wonderkid David Eze, according to a new report. The Next Big Thing Widely seen as one of the brightest talents in Manchester City’s academy, Eze is a rising star who appears destined for the top of English football. He is already drawing plaudits for his complete skillset, as he is capable of dictating play from deep as well as venturing forward to be decisive in the final third. The under-16 England international, who has captained the Three Lions at that age group, was born in Ireland and the Irish FA are understood to be chasing his allegiance. It is a similar story at club level, with Football Insider revealing Old Trafford scouts have been “impressed” by his performances. Sources confirm Eze is “very highly regarded at the Etihad” and the Citizens would be loath to lose such a talent, particularly to their local rivals. But the youngster will “not be eligible to sign a professional contract” with City until he turns 17 next year, which affords United the chance to strike with their own offer. United ready to strike Football Insider claims United are “placing increased focus on academy signings”, referencing efforts to sign Crystal Palace’s highly-rated 15-year-old goalkeeper Lucca Benetton last month. The Red Devils are also understood to be on the hunt for Jeremy Monga, with sporting director Jason Wilcox having held talks with Leicester City over their 16-year-old wing wizard. United have previously raided Arsenal for Chido Obi and Ayden Heaven, with the Danish striker and English centre-back having both already featured for the first team. A swoop for one of City’s premier prospects would be the most ambitious move yet, however, with United said to be hoping to “capitalise on uncertainty at Man City to lure him across Manchester”. If Eze were to arrive at Old Trafford, he could form a tantalising partnership with JJ Gabriel – fresh from being crowned the U18 PL Player of the Season – at the heart of Darren Fletcher’s side.
