Here we go: United agree 40.5m deal for Ederson – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United and Atalanta have struck a full agreement for the transfer of Ederson, the reliable David Ornstein of The Athletic has confirmed. United are prioritising midfield reinforcements in the upcoming window and talks of a swoop for Ederson have ramped up over the past few weeks. United have been linked with the Brazilian for some time, and given that his contract expires next summer, this transfer window offers their best opportunity to secure him. An agreement over personal terms was struck, as Ederson made it clear he was prioritising United ahead of all other potential destinations. Over the weekend, Fabrizio Romano revealed that he would be surprised if the midfielder does not seal a switch to Old Trafford. Now, Ornstein has confirmed that everything is in place for Ederson to join United. According to Ornstein, “Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign midfielder Ederson, in an early statement of intent ahead of next season.” “The 26-year-old Brazilian will move to Old Trafford for €40.5million fixed fee plus €4.5m in potential add-ons. Personal terms are in place on a proposed contract until June 2030, while there is an option to extend by an additional 12 months.” “Ederson must still undergo a medical and all parties intend to complete the switch in early July.” “He has long been targeted by a host of top clubs but prioritised United and, given he would become a free agent in the summer of 2027, they were able to negotiate a price considerably lower than figures quoted in previous markets.” Romano has also given his here we go, confirming that the transfer has been completed. “BREAKING: Éderson to Manchester United, here we go!” “Deal done with Atalanta for €45m package with add-ons included, agreement now in place. Medical and formal steps to follow but deal in place.” 🚨💣 BREAKING: Éderson to Manchester United, here we go! Deal done with Atalanta for €45m package with add-ons included, agreement now in place. David Alaba has played his last match for Real Madrid, bringing the curtain down on a five-year stay at the Bernabeu. The 33-year-old Austrian, who can operate at left-back, central defence, or even in midfield if called upon, is now expected to seek a new challenge elsewhere as a free agent. Before he turns his attention to club football, however, Alaba will be eager to take his A-game to the FIFA World Cup with Austria, keen to prove to European heavyweights that he still has plenty to offer. However, even with that summer showpiece on the horizon, speculation about his next club destination is already gathering pace. Manchester United eye David Alaba Interestingly, Italian outlet Tuttosport, while positioning Juventus as a serious suitor for the veteran defender, claims that he is “coveted by Salzburg, monitored by Manchester United, and still eager to compete at the highest level after the World Cup with Austria.” INEOS monitoring Alaba will certainly catch many by surprise. Some will wonder why they would consider a battle-tested veteran when there are exciting young defenders to turn to. However, when you factor in the options already at the club, a move for Alaba actually makes a degree of sense. Why Alaba? Should Manchester United sign a young centre-back, it would likely block the development paths of both Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven. Alaba, by contrast, could arrive as a squad option, giving the pair the room they need to continue their development. Alaba could also deputise for Luke Shaw without hindering the progression of Diego Leon or Harry Amass. And while injuries have plagued him in recent years, if he can produce a Shaw-esque 2025/26 campaign, the ex-Bayern Munich star could still prove influential. That said, much like United’s number 23, Alaba’s quality on the ball has never been in doubt; it is his fitness, particularly during his time at Madrid, that has consistently held him back. A fit Alaba could be impactful for this United side. The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade. Manchester United are on the brink of finalising a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, according to reliable journalist Andy Mitten. Mitten also shared some glowing feedback he has received about the midfielder from his sources. Ederson swoop Heading into the summer window, bolstering the midfield is believed to be United’s priority. As the club gears up for Champions League action and a possible title challenge, squad depth will be essential. Nowhere is that more urgent than in midfield, especially after Casemiro’s exit and with Manuel Ugarte expected to follow. Over the past few weeks, Ederson has emerged as a top target for the Red Devils. An agreement over personal terms is already in place as talks with Atalanta carry on. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that he expects Ederson to be a United player, unless there is a dramatic twist in the tale. Mitten has now issued an update, revealing that the transfer could get over the line in the next 24 to 48 hours. Mitten also shared what he has heard about the 26-year-old. Ederson transfer update “Manchester United and Atalanta of Bergamo do not yet have a full agreement for Ederson, the Brazilian box-to-box midfielder. However, I think, and I have spoken to people in Manchester, in Bergamo and other Italian cities. An agreement is very very close.” Mitten disclosed that he has spoken to some of Ederson’s former teammates, who describe him as an “athletic box-to-box midfielder with Champions League experience.” It’s said that the fee for Ederson will be around £35m. “I’m told that he is a good character. I was told not everybody from Brazil has the placid personality of Ederson, but he’s a good one and I’m trying to find out more about him. I actually met him a couple of years ago. I watched him play for Salernitana and I spoke to one of his teammates. I said, ‘Does he speak English?’ He went, ‘No, I don’t think he does.’” “And then I spoke to someone who knows him well in Bergamo and he went, ‘Yeah, yeah, he speaks English.’ So I need to get to the bottom of that little mystery.” Mitten then adds, “I fully expect that to be done within the next 24 to 48 hours. Ederson will be coming in as the main midfielder, which suggests United are lining up a marquee signing, or even multiple recruits in the middle of the park. It’s understood that there were other clubs eyeing Ederson, but United appear to have won the race for his signature. “He had other suitors, most of them are in Italy, one of them was in Spain, because he’s really good. It was put to me about Ederson that there’s no one in Serie A who comes close to him at the moment. I’m pretty encouraged by what I’ve been told.” Other midfielders on United’s radar include Mateus Fernandes (West Ham) and Elliot Anderson (Manchester City). United plotting 35m opening offer for German giant, he is set to star at the World Cup – report

Manchester United could do with reinforcements at the back given the injury-prone nature of several stars. Matthijs de Ligt was sidelined from November until the end of the season, and following his operation, there is no telling when the Dutchman will be ready to play again. Lisandro Martinez has suffered numerous injuries since his move to Old Trafford. The less said the better about Luke Shaw. The Red Devils did tie down Harry Maguire to a new short-term deal, but the Englishman is 33 and cannot play three games in a week. Why strengthening at the back is key Both Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro remain raw, and the situation dictates that the 20-time English league champions must enter the market for a new centre-back. Interestingly, The Mirror have claimed that the Old Trafford side are looking at Borussia Dortmund defender Waldemar Anton. It is a surprising update given the fact that the Germany international is 29 years old, with INEOS following a strict policy of not signing players over 26. The report further claims that United are weighing up a £35 million bid for the Uzbekistan-born defender. United preparing opening offer for Waldemar Anton “Manchester United are weighing up a £35million bid for Borussia Dortmund defender Waldemar Anton. United boss Michael Carrick is keen to sign a new centre-back this summer, and has sent scouts to watch Anton in action. “Huge doubts remain over the immediate futures of United duo Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt. Both have been sidelined with serious injuries and United have concerns about the poor fitness records of both defenders. “United could now turn to Anton – and make him one of their summer signings. Anton joined Dortmund from Stuttgart in 2024 for a fee of £18m, and has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga.” Waldemar Anton can also play as a right-back and has a market value of £15.5 million, a far cry from United’s initial bid amount. Current price tag seems excessive The German will be in action during the World Cup, and his performances might see his price explode amid interest from other clubs. Or it could be a ploy from the German club to inflate their star’s price in order to extract the best possible deal. Anton’s current contract is valid until 2028. Scholes urges United to snub Carrick favourite and sign his national team-mate instead

Manchester United are eyeing both attacking and midfield reinforcements this summer, with Premier League-proven candidates dominating their wish list. The Red Devils have turned over a new leaf since the arrival of Michael Carrick in January. The Englishman took over a team that had struggled to come to terms with former head coach Ruben Amorim’s controversial 3-4-3 system. With the Portuguese gone, the English giants reverted to the tried-and-tested 4-2-3-1 system under Carrick and embarked on a sizzling run. United registered 12 wins and just two defeats under their former midfielder, securing third place in the Premier League. Carrick was initially brought in as caretaker manager, but INEOS handed him the full-time job before the end of the season. The focus now is on providing the Englishman with the resources to mount a title challenge next season and fight for silverware. Among the Red Devils’ most urgent needs is a new midfielder, with Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson emerging as their dream signing. United want the Premier League’s best players Anderson is coming off a fantastic campaign with Forest and is one of the finest in his position in the Premier League right now. The Englishman’s ability to dominate the middle of the park and his all-action style of play make him a fine replacement for the departing Casemiro at Old Trafford. The Brazilian midfielder was indispensable for United this season but will start a new chapter in his career this summer. Manuel Ugarte, who was brought in to replace the former Real Madrid star, has been a disappointment so far and is also expected to leave. According to recent reports , the Red Devils are close to signing Atalanta midfielder Ederson this summer and are also eyeing a move for West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes to bolster their midfield. Anderson, though, remains their priority choice, even though previous reports suggest that he could be on his way to Manchester City. The Englishman has registered four goals and five assists in 50 appearances across competitions for the West Bridgford club this season. The player is expected to cost over £100 million, which could also pose a problem for United. Meanwhile, United are also looking to add more bite to their attack before the start of the new season. Recent reports suggest that Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, who previously worked with Carrick at Middlesbrough, has emerged as an option for the job. United will have to manage their resources well as they look to strengthen the squad to the best of their financial capabilities. Club legend Paul Scholes recently discussed the matter with his former team-mate Nicky Butt and revealed his preference between the two targets. Scholes wants Anderson at United Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Butt asked: “You can only sign one for United: Elliot Anderson or Morgan Rogers?” Scholes opted for Anderson, and also explained the reasoning behind his choice. He said: “It’d have to be Elliot Anderson for me because I love Morgan Rogers, but he’s not going to play instead of Bruno Fernandes, is he? Same position [as Bruno].” Final Thoughts It is hard to argue with Scholes’ statement, especially with United expected to tie Fernandes down to a new deal. Should INEOS manage to beat City to Anderson’s signature this summer, the Red Devils will significantly strengthen their chances of challenging for the Premier League title. United gifted golden chance to sign “brilliant” PL talisman, Old Trafford is his dream move – report

United gifted golden chance to sign “brilliant” PL talisman, Old Trafford is his dream move – report

Manchester United target Iliman Ndiaye has thrown fresh doubt on his future with Everton ahead of a major summer for the 26-year-old winger, according to a new report. Dribbling Demon Ndiaye has enjoyed a superb campaign at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, propelling the Toffees to within four points of a European place and establishing himself as one of the most skilful operators in the Premier League. The Senegal international was also outstanding at the Africa Cup of Nations, though the tournament ended in dramatic fashion despite the Lions of Teranga beating Morocco on penalties in the final. Signed from Olympique Marseille for around £17 million in 2024, Ndiaye has proven to be one of Everton’s best pieces of business in recent years. His debut campaign saw him return nine goals, while this season he produced six goals and three assists. However, this must be analysed through the lens of a talented player operating in David Moyes’s negative system, where attack is the first line of defence and forwards are expected to be more concerned with their work-rate off the ball than their contributions on it. It is a testament to Ndiaye’s attitude and application that he has thrived despite these constraints, regularly carrying Everton’s attacking threat single-handedly, while demonstrating the dogged out-of-possession traits his manager demands. The Rouen native’s display at the Etihad in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in October was one of the standout performances of anyone in the Premier League this season, showcasing the full repertoire of his skillset in difficult circumstances. It’s little wonder United took notice of this, with the club’s recruitment department understood to have identified him as a target with “brilliant skill, goalscoring and chance-creating ability”. He also fits the bill for INEOS’s model of targeting Premier League-proven players – the same model which led them to sign Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha last summer, with noises emanating from Merseyside that United could repeat this trick. A Major Summer Looms The Athletic reveals Ndiaye has “rejected multiple new deals” in talks with Everton’s hierarchy, despite attempts to “reward his strong early-season form with fresh terms which would have made him become one of the club’s top earners.” Well-placed sources indicate the main sticking point is the “addition of an exit clause that could be triggered as early as this summer.” Everton are understood to be keen to “protect the value of a key player and ensure they are the ones who dictate the timing or price of any potential future exit,” suggesting the player wants the clause, not the club. “Interest is anticipated from Champions League clubs this summer,” the report states, though no specific options are named. Everton will use Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon’s £70m move to Barcelona as a benchmark to fend off suitors, while a contract with three years remaining further strengthens their negotiating position. The prospect of a strong showing at the World Cup, with Senegal considered a dark horse at the tournament in North America, would further increase his prospective price. Final Thoughts A report relayed by The Peoples Person revealed Ndiaye considers United a “dream club” to join, while he has previously described Old Trafford as his favourite stadium. If United plan to reignite their interest from earlier in the year, Ndiaye looks like a target who is ready to play ball over a move to M16 this summer – even if his club are desperate to keep hold of him. Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens has enjoyed an outstanding maiden Premier League campaign. Signed from Royal Antwerp last summer, the Belgian has established himself as the undisputed number one at Old Trafford, picking up the Transfer of the Season award in the process. However, a United goalkeeper is always under the spotlight, and a few mistakes could pile on the pressure in no time. As such, with the Red Devils heading into the Champions League, the club’s hierarchy would do well to bring in another level-headed shot-stopper. Bart Verbruggen on Manchester United’s radar Brighton & Hove Albion star Bart Verbruggen has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most well-rounded goalkeepers. The Dutchman moved to the south coast from Anderlecht in 2023. Like Senne Lammens, the lack of experience at the top level did not affect Verbruggen’s confidence. The 23-year-old has been ever-present with the Seagulls, impressing with his sharp reflexes, composure on the ball, and ability to play out from the back. Interestingly, only Lammens has prevented more goals in the Premier League than Brighton giant this season. According to SportsBoom, Verbruggen is being eyed by the Premier League’s heavyweights, including Manchester United. It is claimed that United and Liverpool are both monitoring the 6’4″ tall Netherlands international’s development closely. However, it is Aston Villa who are reported to be most interested in Verbruggen, potentially to replace Emiliano Martinez. Brighton, however, remain in a strong position, with Verbruggen under contract until 2028. He was signed from Anderlecht for £16.3 million. Needless to say, Carlos Baleba still out of reach United, meanwhile, showed great desire to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton last summer, having agreed personal terms with the Cameroon midfielder. However, Brighton priced Baleba out of a move in 2025 by placing an insurmountable £100m price tag on his head. Their stance has changed little despite the young midfielder’s struggles since then. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United’s interest in Baleba appears to have cooled, with the clubs apart on the transfer fee. “That changed my mind”: Rooney explains exactly what shifted his opinion of Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has explained how a conversation with former team-mate Darren Fletcher changed his view of Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese maestro has been an influential figure for the Red Devils since arriving at Old Trafford in January 2020. Largely considered one of United’s best signings in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, Fernandes has also been the Premier League’s supreme creator during his six-and-a-half-season stay. The 31 year old added another feather to his cap in the recently concluded campaign, registering the most assists (21) in a single Premier League season. He was subsequently named the FWA Footballer of the Year, and also won the Premier League Player of the Season ahead of Declan Rice. While Fernandes is adored by United fans, he has been subject to criticism, especially from rival fans and former players, for his demeanour on the pitch. Rooney, though, has spoken glowingly about Fernandes in the past and recently provided an intriguing insight on the Red Devils skipper. Rooney was unsure when Fernandes arrived at United Speaking on The Wayne Rooney Show, Rooney explained how he was sceptical when Bruno Fernandes first arrived at Old Trafford. He said: “He did, yeah, I think his knowledge of football, you could see, is clear.” “And for me, when he first joined Manchester United, I was a bit unsure, if I’m being honest. And I think the perception was a lot of people who I speak to as well were like, ‘I don’t really like how he is on the pitch and stuff.’ I think a lot of people say that.” United’s record goalscorer went on to reveal that a conversation with former team-mate Darren Fletcher a few years ago changed his stance, adding: “But I remember speaking to Darren Fletcher, a few years back, over Bruno and Fletcher was telling me how good he is [as a player] and how good he is with the players and as a captain and stuff. So, then I was like, ‘Okay,’ that changed my mind […].” Fernandes has registered 107 goals and 108 assists in 327 appearances for the Red Devils to date. Wazza, meanwhile, scored 253 goals and set up 143 more in 559 games for the English giants. Those two, along with United legend Ryan Giggs, are the only three players to have registered 100 goals and 100 assists for the Premier League giants in their history. Meeting Fernandes left a lasting impression on Rooney Rooney also pointed out that meeting the Portuguese earlier this year left a lasting impression. He said: “[…] And then, obviously, when I met him a few weeks ago, he was brilliant, and not just with me, but everyone who was there, he was brilliant with everyone.” “That shows, obviously, he’s a leader; he thinks about football a lot [and] he takes it really seriously. And he wants to be better, the best he can, and he wants his teammates to be better, which I think is really important.” Fernandes is under contract at Old Trafford until 2027, but recent reports suggest that United are already working to tie him down to a new deal. Final Thoughts Fernandes recently acknowledged that he would have loved to win more trophies with United. If INEOS can invest wisely in the squad this summer, the Portuguese could be granted his wish in the upcoming season. Since Bruno Fernandes joined Man Utd, he has created more chances (670) and registered more assists (71) than any other player in the Premier League.
