European giants ready to strike a deadly blow to United’s plan to sign lethal hitman taking the CL by storm – report

Manchester United’s goalscoring woes have shown no signs of improving this season, despite investing over £200m on the attack this summer. INEOS signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko to upgrade the frontline following a disappointing end of the 2024/25 campaign.

Ruben Amorim’s men finished the campaign on 15th place in the Premier League table, with a negative goal difference. The Red Devils had found the back of the net just 44 times in 38 games in the league, a new low in the club’s history.

They also failed to score in the Europa League final, succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur. Interestingly, things have hardly been better for United this season, as they are languishing in 14th place in the table after six games.

The Red Devils have won just two of their games in the league, losing three others, and also have a negative goal difference. They have scored just seven goals in the Premier League so far, two of which were own goals.

Goalscoring remains a problem for United

Amorim signed Sesko as an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund this summer, with the Dane moving on loan to Atalanta. The Slovenian has looked lively so far, and scored his first goal for United in the 3-1 defeat to Brentford over the weekend.

The Red Devils also have Joshua Zirkzee in their roster, but he hasn’t lived up to expectations at the Theatre of Dreams. The Dutchman arrived at the club with a big reputation in the summer of 2024 following a breakthrough season with Bologna.

However, Zirkzee managed just seven goals from 49 games across competitions last season, and missed the final weeks of the campaign with an injury. United are looking to add more firepower to their squad in 2026, and recent reports have suggested that they have set their sights on Juventus hitman Dusan Vlahovic.

Interestingly, the Serbian is out of contract next summer, which makes him a lucrative option for the Red Devils, either in January or next summer. Vlahovic has registered four goals from six games this season for the Bianconeri, including two goals against Borussia Dortmund in the 4-4 draw in the Champions League.

Chelsea are also eyeing the 25 year old with interest, and it now appears that Bayern Munich have now entered the race as well.

A replacement for Harry Kane

Speaking to CFBayern, Bundesliga insider Christian Falk has said that the Bavarians are long-term admirers of Vlahovic. He said: “FC Bayern had already held talks with Vlahovic’s management while he was still playing in Florence.”

“At that time, the club were looking for a successor to Robert Lewandowski, who had moved to FC Barcelona. Bayern opted for a new system and they signed Sadio Mane from Liverpool instead, which was a transfer mistake.

“The German giants rectified the mistake by signing Harry Kane. Vlahovic would fit perfectly into FC Bayern’s system and continue the tradition of the true number 9 at Bayern, and therefore, his name has been discussed at Bayern.

“The club is once again gathering information, as he could be an interesting signing for the club since he would be a free agent next summer. He could be the successor of Kane if he ever wants to leave. Also, Vlahovic can forge a good partnership with Kane upfront, and the two can play together.”

Interestingly, recent reports have suggested that United are among the clubs who are interested in Harry Kane in 2026.

United legend slams “unacceptable” results, identifies “unforgivable” mistake Amorim keeps making

The pressure on Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is near breaking point after his side lost 3-1 to Brentford at the weekend.

Despite reports that the United hierarchy are still backing the Portuguese, results and performances must improve dramatically and immediately.

This view was put forward by United legend Gary Neville, who told NBC Sports that he is “really really worried” about the situation at Old Trafford.

“Unforgivable”

Neville said: “I’m very worried, there’s no point in me sitting here and saying that I’m not. I think the levels of performance, the results, the substitutions.”

With lots of cause for concern, the former United full-back honed in on one particular problem involving an out-of-position star.

“Yesterday [against Brentford], I saw something at the end of the Grimsby game that they lost in the Carabao Cup a couple of weeks ago, which was Mason Mount ending up at left-wing-back,” he said.

“We admire managers who are resilient, who are, if you like, stubborn around their system. We want them to stick to the plan.

“But, when you’ve got Mason Mount playing at left-back, you’re going to look pretty stupid. That’s happened twice now. It can’t happen.

“The first time, I thought, was unforgivable and yesterday it happened again.”

Regular tactic slammed

For Neville, the strange deployment of Mount is a manifestation of one of the worst aspects of Amorim’s game.

He explained: “He changes his back three and his back five every single game and the performances and results are just unacceptable. I’m really, really worried.”

Rio Ferdinand is among those former Red Devils to have already highlighted this as a problem, stating he would hated playing like that.

Neville stopped just short of calling for change in the United hotseat, but made it clear that the writing is on the wall for Amorim.

He said: “I would never go on television and say that a manager should be sacked but I suspect that the hierarchy at Manchester United are going to want to see a turnaround very quickly.”

La Liga-winning manager ready to take charge at United immediately, he uses the 4-3-3 system – Romano

Ruben Amorim’s future at Manchester United is the talk of the town at the moment. Despite investing heavily in the squad over the summer, the Portuguese head coach has failed to turn things around at Old Trafford so far.

The Red Devils have won two of their six games this season, losing the other three. That includes the humiliating 3-1 defeat at the hands of Brentford over the weekend that has strengthened calls for Amorim’s head.

The Portuguese has struggled to impress since taking charge at the Theatre of Dreams in November last year. He was brought in to take the club towards a new direction following a disappointing end to former manager Erik ten Hag’s reign.

Unfortunately, Amorim has been a shadow of the man who lit up Sporting during his four-year stay at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Amorim’s record at United

Amorim has registered a mere 36.73% win ratio with United, managing only 18 wins in 49 games, while losing 19 others. For the record, the Portuguese won 164 of his 231 games with Sporting, losing just 33, with a 71% win ratio.

Last season, the Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League table and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur by a 1-0 scoreline.

They are already 14th in the league this campaign, and have exited the EFL Cup at the hands of League Two minnows Grimsby Town in Round Two.

On Saturday, United were undone by a Brentford side who had previously won just one of their five games in the league. The situation has added to speculation regarding Amorim’s future, with reports suggesting that INEOS have identified Gareth Southgate as an option for the job.

It now appears that a Spanish manager is also keen to test his mettle at the Theatre of Dreams.

Xavi wants Old Trafford job

According to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano, former Barcelona manager Xavi is ready to take charge at Old Trafford. Speaking on his YouTube channel, the journalist added that the Spaniard is ready to join United immediately, despite the lack of European football.

”Xavi is studying the Premier League. Xavi is monitoring the Premier League and would go immediately to Man United. Even without European football, he would go immediately to the Premier League,” said Romano.

Xavi enjoyed decent success during his two-and-a-half-season stay at Camp Nou, winning 89 of 142 games with a 62.68% win ratio. The Spaniard won the LaLiga title and the Supercopa de Espana during his time with the Catalans. He is steeped in Barcelona’s ideology, invested heavily in youth during his tenure, and, most importantly, uses the 4-3-3 formation that many believe the United squad is most suited for.

Interestingly, recent reports have stated that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is willing to be patient with Amorim despite the rocky start to the new campaign.

Jones on his Academy work and next steps

Former Manchester United defender Phil Jones has revealed he’s “ready for a challenge” after gaining experience coaching in the Academy last season.

The 33-year-old made 229 appearances for the Reds over a 12-year stay with the Reds, but was forced to retire a year after he departed Old Trafford, having dealt with injury issues throughout his career.

“Listen, no secret, when I finished, it was obviously difficult because I had to retire through injury,” Jones told MUTV. “It wasn’t me deciding I wanted to stop playing football.

“I love football, I love being in and around it, I love everything about the game.”

Having been forced to curtail his playing career earlier than he’d have liked, Jones embarked on the next best thing: coaching.

He’s already completed his UEFA A Licence coaching badge, and is currently in the process of finishing his UEFA Pro Licence, the highest level available. As part of that transition, the former defender spent time with the Academy, helping out with our Under-18s last season.

“Brilliant,” Jones replied when asked about the experience. “I worked alongside Adam Lawrence, the [then] manager, who was terrific, and Colin Little, who’s still there.

“I was able to learn off Adam, learn off Col, in terms of how they set sessions up, what they’re going after in sessions and learn about the development programme with these kids so they transition from Academy to first team, and what that looks like when they get there, and having a succession plan for them.

“I really enjoyed it and it’s something I’m really excited about. It’s what I want to go into, it’s what I feel passionate about. So, like I said, let’s see what the future holds.”

Jones worked with an extremely talented group under Lawrence, who has since departed the club, with that age group only just pipped to the U18 Premier League title by our crosstown rivals Manchester City, having lifted the trophy the season prior.

Asked about those players he worked with, the former England international said: “Football aside, they’re great lads who want to learn, who want to develop and get better, as individuals and as a team as well.

“But, you know, there’s some technically very, very good players in there. I watch some of them, and I can only look back from when I was in the Blackburn Academy coming through, and I’d have loved to have the ability that some of those lads have.

Thank you and farewell, Phil Video

Thank you and farewell, Phil

With family by his side, Phil Jones bids an emotional farewell after 12 years of giving everything for United…

“Really promising, really bright,” Jones continued. “I know there are a few lads who have been in and around and trained with the first team last season.

“Darren Fletcher’s there now, so I’m sure he’s got them all firing on all cylinders and getting the best out of them, so yeah, hopefully we’ll see some of them in the first team in the future.”

That time spent with the Academy has been invaluable to Jones in his transition from playing to coaching, and he is now weighing up his next steps carefully.

“I don’t feel like I’m under any pressure to get back in,” the ex-Red admitted. “But on the flip side of that, I’m ready for a challenge and I’m eager, just like I was as a player.

“I’m ambitious, and I want to be ambitious as a coach. I feel like I’m ready for that challenge.

“I’ve done my hardship in terms of understanding that Academy way, and the link between the Academy and the first team.

“But I don’t think there’s a right or a wrong way [into coaching] either. If a first-team coaching role came up, or something along those lines, I’d definitely consider it.”

Phil Jones was speaking as part of the Pro Am Padel Tour 2025 (@proampadeltour), which concludes with the national final in London on 14 October.

Video: 1 assist, 2 key passes: United loanee lights up La Liga again in yet another victory

0

Manchester United had three loaned players in action on Sunday across different leagues.

To follow where all of United’s loanees are playing this season, click here.

Marcus Rashford

The 27-year-old played 78 minutes of Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Real Sociedad.

He almost opened the scoring when the ball dropped to him on the edge of the area but his strike was right at the Sociedad keeper.

Rashford did get his moment though when his well-taken corner found Jules Koundé who headed home Barca’s equaliser.

It was his third assist of the season in La Liga and two in as many matches.

He had another long-range effort in the second half that was just about cleared by Alex Remiro.

Rashford completed two key passes and made 77% of his passing attempts. He also tried hard to add his first La Liga goal as he had two shots on target, two off and two that were blocked.

Nonetheless, he could not find the back of the net.

Rashford could also only complete two of his seven dribble attempts and a poor two of nine ground duels were won.

He will next be in action when Barcelona host Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday in the Champions League.

Rasmus Hojlund

The Dane played 73 minutes of Napoli’s 1-2 defeat to AC Milan.

In a performance many United fans would have recognised, he only touched the ball 16 times and completed seven out of 11 passes.

He also lost both his ground duels and did not complete any aerial contests.

More damningly, he also failed to have any shots of any kind during the game and never looked like scoring in such a crucial match.

Enzo Kana-Biyik

The French youngster played the final 22 minutes of FC Lausanne-Sport’s 0-0 draw with Sion.

He had one shot blocked and failed to complete any of his three dribble attempts.

In a poor showing, he also failed to connect with any long passes and made just two out of six pass attempts as he was left isolated upfront.

He still awaits his first goal for the INEOS owned club.

Shocking details emerge about “lonely man” Amorim in training as United job has “broken him mentally” – report

Manchester United returned to business as usual under Ruben Amorim over the weekend, falling to a 3-1 defeat to Brentford.

The result ensures Amorim’s side remain without back-to-back wins in the Premier League since Amorim took charge of the club in November 2024.

As usual, the ex-Sporting CP tactician was quick to defend his system, stating: “When we win, it’s not the system. When we lose, it’s the system.”

Strong words from the United head coach who has registered nine wins in 33 Premier League games.

Amorim, who slammed his players for making a “frustrating” mistake against Brentford, has full confidence in his tactics and philosophy, but it seems not many are behind him and his ideas at Carrington.

Ruben Amorim isolating himself at Man United

According to CentreDevils’ Sully, Amorim is described as a “lonely man” internally.

It is revealed that the United boss “often walks away from the team” in training and after losses he “sometimes sits on his own and doesn’t speak to anyone.”

The report further states: “One source feels the job has broken him mentally and he looks like a ghost of his former self from when he first joined.”

The atmosphere within United is “one of the lowest it has been in a long time.”

United bosses remain supportive of Amorim

The club’s hierarchy continue to publicly back Amorim, insisting they aren’t looking at any managers. However, the same message was conveyed days before Ineos sacked Erik ten Hag last year in October.

On Sunday, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been in direct contact with former England head coach Gareth Southgate in recent weeks.

United welcome newly-promoted Sunderland to Old Trafford before the international break. Anything other than a convincing win could prove to be catastrophic for Amorim.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe makes crucial decision on Ruben Amorim’s future following Brentford defeat – report

The clock is ticking on Ruben Amorim at Manchester United. The Portuguese has struggled to live up to the billing since taking charge at Old Trafford in November last year.

Amorim’s time at the Theatre of Dreams has been marked with some ridiculous records, including his team’s inability to win two back-to-back games.

That was exactly what the Red Devils were hoping to achieve against Brentford on Saturday. Amorim’s men arrived at the Gtech Stadium in good spirits following their 2-1 win over Chelsea last weekend.

Interestingly, the victory agains the Blues was the first time United had won two consecutive home games in the league under the Portuguese. With Brentford struggling for form this season, the Red Devils were expected to secure all three points this weekend, but it wasn’t to be. The Bees ran riot at home, securing a 3-1 win and further piling the pressure on Amorim.

A scandalous win ratio

Amorim has won just 18 of his 49 games in charge of United, losing 19 others, and has a win ratio of 36.73%. The Red Devils are now 14th in the league table after six games this season, with two wins and three defeats to their name.

Interestingly, the English giants ended up 15th in the Premier League last season, yet INEOS opted to put their trust in their Portuguese head coach. They even backed him on the market, spending over £200m on new signings, but results are yet to improve.

United are already out of the EFL Cup this season, where they lost to League Two club Grimsby Town in the Second Round.

Supporters, understandably, are on a short fuse and many are treating the defeat to Brentford as the final nail in Amorim’s coffin. Recent reports, interestingly, have suggested that Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been in touch with former England manager Gareth Southgate, who is among the shortlisted candidates to replace Amorim at Old Trafford.

No knee jerk reaction

However, according to journalist Simon Stone, United are willing to be patient with Amorim despite the slow start to the season. Ratcliffe reportedly believes that the Portuguese head coach’s efforts should only be assessed at the end of an entire campaign.

As such, INEOS are not planning any major decision on Amorim’s future at the moment and are backing him to turn things around at Old Trafford. The report adds that club officials have also rubbished news of candidates being shortlisted as the former Sporting manager’s replacement.

The Red Devils have now collected just 34 points from 33 league games under Ruben Amorim. They next face newly promoted Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 4, in the league.

The Black Cats have won three of their opening six games and are fourth in the Premier League table this season. Amorim, as such, won’t have it easy against Regis Le Bris’ team, and another defeat could compound his misery at the Theatre of Dreams.

This shambolic statistic proves why United must fire Ruben Amorim now – opinion

Coming off a 3-1 loss to Brentford, Manchester United seem unable to build a winning streak.

While the team did well to defeat Chelsea 2-1 the previous weekend, Man United yet again failed to build any winning momentum when they took a trip to London to face Brentford, a struggling side that they probably should have capitalised on.

Despite going into the match in 17th place on the Premier League table, Brentford easily disposed of United, leapfrogging them in the standings as a result.

But this wasn’t even the most embarrassing aspect of the defeat.

Sadly, the biggest humiliation came at the expense of United manager Ruben Amorim.

Amorim’s disastrous record

As a result of this loss, Amorim has now lost 17 of his 33 Premier League matches, meaning that United have officially lost the majority of their league games under Amorim’s management.

With just nine victories during Amorim’s tenure, the Portuguese manager has given United their worst win percentage in the league since before the Second World War. (Stats via GOAL)

Sure, Amorim just happens to be the latest in a long line of managers who have struggled to find success at United, but his management decisions, along with the aforementioned statistics, prove why he should be shown the exit door at Old Trafford.

Refusal to adapt or change

It seems that no matter how bad the results get, Amorim refuses to change up his playing style or formation, seemingly expecting them to suddenly come good over time.

Harry Maguire has refused to lay any blame on Amorim, claiming that the players have let the manager down and that a competent performer can excel in any formation.

This makes little sense, given that most players are known to specialise in one or two positions ahead of others. For example, Amad Diallo may play as a wing-back in Amorim’s system, but he is first and foremost a winger. While Noussair Mazraoui typically plays in the back three, he is naturally a full-back. Just because some players can adapt doesn’t and shouldn’t mean that they will play as well in their new positions as they do in their typical roles.

But even if Maguire was correct, surely it would make more sense to use a formation that suits the majority of players in the team, especially since they’ll find it quicker and easier to gel?

While wing-backs are a crucial component of the 3-4-3 lineup, United do not actually have any natural wing-backs at their disposal. And this is just one example of how Amorim’s system doesn’t work.

There’s then the case of using three centre-backs instead of two, which leaves the midfield short-handed.

Although Amorim may think that this increases United’s defensive coverage, it clearly hasn’t worked, given that the team has conceded 11 goals in just six matches, making for a -4 goal difference.

Clearly, Amorim is not built for life at United. The club would do well to dismiss him as soon as possible, before the results get even worse.

“She’s unreal”: United Women star waxes lyrical over “unbelievable” star she “loves playing with”

Manchester United Women pulled off an impressive 2-0 victory away to Liverpool this Sunday afternoon.

The victory temporarily took them to the top of the WSL table with Chelsea to play later on

United goalscorer Ella Toone waxed lyrical over her teammate Hinata Miyazawa, who opened the scoring with a stunning strike from range.

Unreal

Commenting on the Japanese player’s match to Sky Sports Toone stated, “unreal, she’s an unbelievable player. I absolutely love playing with her. She has so much quality defensively but on the ball she does a lot of work as well.”

The England midfielder also claimed that she thoroughly deserved to score today and joked that she really should have scored another.

Commenting on the goal she claimed, “it was a great finish, everyone is so happy for her, she is consistently one of our best players every single week and we see the work that she puts in and she doesn’t always get the credit, so she deserves that goal today and we are very proud of her.”

Skinner less impressed

United head coach Marc Skinner was happy with the result but less complimentary of his side’s overall display in an interview with Sky Sports.

He claimed, “we spoke at half-time about what we wanted in the second half. I just said to the players in the huddle that we weren’t good enough second half with the ball. We made rushed decisions and I don’t even think that was Liverpool’s pressure, it was just us.”

Nonetheless, Skinner was delighted with his team’s response and asserted, “and what I loved about the group is they just accepted it yeah, it wasn’t good enough. So yeah, their standards are already there and I think we just tried to force too many things. It’s how comfortable we made that first half, that is why we fell into that trap.”

The former Birmingham head coach was generally positive with the display and especially the result in what has been a very successful start to the new season.

He explained, “look, we will learn from it, another clean sheet, another two goals, two different goalscorers, so yeah it is a good three points.”

United will next be in action when they face Chelsea on Friday evening in a titanic tussle.

United ready to pounce for elite Serie A goalscorer in January, they are winning the race to sign him – report

Manchester United appear to be leading the race to sign Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.

It’s been a turbulent start to the season for Man United, with the club falling to a 3-1 loss to Brentford on Saturday. This result all but erased the memory of their impressive 2-1 win over Chelsea the previous weekend.

Perhaps one of the few decent performers was striker Benjamin Sesko, who scored a goal and finally seems to be adjusting to life at Old Trafford.

Still, as United’s only available natural striker, it’s clear that he would need some support as the club looks to navigate what could prove to be a challenging season.

It appears that manager Ruben Amorim understands this issue, with an elite Serie A forward appearing on United’s radar.

Links with Vlahovic emerge

Vlahovic has long been linked with a move to United, although no deal transpired during the summer transfer window.

Earlier this month, it was reported that United could look to revisit a deal for Vlahovic next summer.

Then, barely a few days later, a contrary report claimed that the Juventus striker is not on United’s agenda at this time after all.

Suddenly, another extreme U-turn in the transfer saga has occurred, with United seemingly interested in the Serbian after all.

Stepping up the pressure

“Manchester United are eyeing a surprise move for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic in 2026, according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport,” GIVEMESPORT wrote in a new article.

“The Old Trafford side are reportedly monitoring the Serbia international ahead of his contract expiry, as Vlahovic is expected to depart Turin next year, either in January or as a free agent at the end of the season.”

This report suggests that United could make a move for Vlahovic as soon as January, which is even earlier than the previous expectation, which was for United to make a summer swoop.

“Juventus are aiming to cash in on Vlahovic before his deal runs out in June and are open to listening to offers in January, with his reported salary of £370,000-a-week proving to be a burden for the Serie A club,” the report continued, suggesting that a January transfer appears more likely than a summer deal.

“Both Man United and Chelsea are reportedly interested in the 25-year-old, with the newspaper describing the Red Devils as ‘front-runners’, though it remains unclear if their interest will materialise as early as January.”

While Sesko appears to be a more than capable signing for United, he can’t be expected to lead the front line on his own, especially since Rasmus Hojlund is out on loan and Chido Obi appears to be too young and inexperienced to become a regular in the senior squad.

Grabbing four goals and one assist in his first six games of the season, Vlahovic has shown fine form in the Serie A and UEFA Champions League, proving his ability to become the ideal teammate for Sesko up top as United look to bolster their goalscoring ability.
