50 G/A ruthless hitman has “rejected” a move to United, he feels Amorim’s side not ready to “win trophies” – report

Manchester United desperately need an elite striker to either replace or complement Rasmus Hojlund given the Dane’s form this season.

The 22-year-old finally ended his 99-day Premier League goalscoring drought before the international break and in general, has looked poor when it comes to his hold up play.

His penchant for backing into defenders instead of using his smarts has been rightly criticised and his displays have just gone to show how Ruben Amorim needs a proven goalscorer in the summer.

Ideally, he would like to reunite with his Sporting CP protege Viktor Gyokeres with the Portuguese demanding INEOS to sign the Swede.

Gyokeres turned down United in January

But as revealed by Football Transfers, the former Coventry City man turned down a move to Old Trafford during the winter transfer window.

And journalist Duncan Castles reckons the 26-year-old will not be joining the Red Devils in the summer as well as he is currently eyeing a move to a club where he can win trophies.

“Viktor Gyokeres rejected a transfer to Manchester United in January as he wants his next transfer to be a club where he can prove his credentials and win trophies, The Transfers Podcast has been told.

“He wants to go to a club where he can prove himself, where he can win trophies, and his assessment of where Manchester United are at the moment is that is not the option to take in a summer where he’ll be turning 27,” Castles was quoted as saying.

“He’s going to look at the clubs that are making him offers and pick the one that he thinks is the best place to demonstrate his time in England in the lower division and at Brighton weren’t an accurate representation of his abilities as a player, and that what he’s done in Portugal can be replicated in the English League or elsewhere in Europe.

Doesn’t want summer move

“He will be available this summer,” Castles added. “Sporting have a gentleman’s agreement that he can leave for around €80m. What I’m hearing is that his agents will try and push that fee down to €60-70m.”

Gyokeres has a remarkable 40 goals and 10 assists in 41 games this season, which just highlights what a ruthless finisher he is. But as relayed previously by The Peoples Person, the Swedish international wants to play in the Champions League.

And unless the 20-time English league champions win the Europa League this term, that dream will not become a reality.

While Castles is not exactly known for his accurate information, he is often spot-on when it comes to information out of Portugal. But fans and Amorim still believe they can win the Europa League this season so nothing can be ruled out just yet.

United also have Victor Osimhen on their list while plenty of cost-effective options are also being kept on standby just in case.

Club wants modest fee to sanction sale of prodigious defender to United, he could be Ayden Heaven 2.0 – report

Fenerbahce reportedly want at least €20m to allow their prodigious young centre-back Yusuf Akcicek to leave this summer, with Manchester United interested.

After making the bold switch from Galatasaray to their Istanbul rivals Fenerbahçe at the youth level in 2019, Akcicek had to wait until the end of last season to make his senior debut.

Since then, his reputation has soared under former United manager Jose Mourinho. Akcicek has steadily progressed within Fenerbahçe’s senior squad, earning regular game time in the Europa League before the team’s elimination on penalties against Rangers.

Akcicek has featured in 12 matches across the Super Lig and Europa League, recording one goal and one assist—both of which came in the European competition.

His impressive performances and great potential have alerted a number of clubs to his availability. In addition to United, Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig have also been linked to the 19-year-old.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Aston Villa are the other Premier League outfit that has demonstrated a strong interest in Akcicek.

Now, Turkish journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu has given an update on Akcicek’s situation, indicating that Ligue 1’s AS Monaco are also eyeing the defender.

Sabuncuoğlu further notes that Fenerbahce are willing to sanction a sale for a minimum fee of €20m.

The fee isn’t excessive, especially given today’s transfer market, but it remains to be seen whether United will consider it reasonable for a player still in the early stages of his senior football career.

The Red Devils have already shown they’re not afraid to sign young defenders who have the potential to step up to the top level.

Ayden Heaven joined from Arsenal during the transfer window and, in the few appearances he made before his injury just before the international break, proved he is ready for the big stage.

If United deem Akcicek to be equally gifted, he could follow a similar trajectory to Heaven.

Fans will be devastated as Amorim and INEOS “willing to sell” another “untouchable” in the summer – report

Manchester United’s financial situation dictates player sales are needed for INEOS to sufficiently back Ruben Amorim once the summer transfer window opens.

Marcus Rashford has no future at the club while Jadon Sancho and Antony are also expected to depart. But more high-profile stars could be on their way.

As relayed by The Peoples Person today, Kobbie Mainoo’s time at Old Trafford is reportedly set to come to an end in the summer as contract talks drag on.

Considered an untouchable not too long ago, the midfielder, who is currently injured, is yet to nail down a spot in the Portuguese tactician’s set-up and his sale does count as pure profit.

Mainoo set to leave

Despite interest from within the Premier League, the 19-year-old does not intend to stay in the English top-flight and is eyeing a move abroad.

And Givemesport have revealed that fellow Carrington graduate Alejandro Garnacho could join him with the management “willing to sell” him despite his recent impressive performances.

Granted his finishing has let the team down, but the Argentine is one of the most potent attacking weapons at the head coach’s disposal and he is a firm fan favourite.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe had made it clear he does not plan on selling the club’s brightest talents, but as the report details further, should any team offer the 20-time English league champions £70 million, the 20-year-old could be set to depart.

Interestingly, the GMS report also states that Garnacho’s increased minutes is not due to the young ace impressing the coach but rather a product of circumstance with Rashford and Antony departing in January.

Garnacho will join him?

“Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim and influential figures at Old Trafford are prepared to sanction the departure of Alejandro Garnacho as long as their demands are met when the transfer window reopens for business in the summer, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

“The Red Devils highlighted that they were not prepared to offload the wide forward for a cut-price fee when they slapped a £70 million price tag on him.

“Garnacho’s upturn in opportunities before the break from domestic action was a reflection of the circumstances Manchester United found themselves in after allowing Rashford and Antony to depart on loan midway through the season, GMS sources have learned, rather than him making himself a key component of future plans.”

There were murmurs of a swap deal with Napoli which would see Victor Osimhen head to Old Trafford instead but that has been ruled out for now.

Amorim had fought with INEOS to keep the United No 17 in Manchester in January after both repaired their fractious relationship following the youngster mending his ways.

Whether former admirers Chelsea, or any other club come in for him remains to be seen. It would certainly be a huge blow.

United rocked by eye-watering demand for explosive attacker turning the PL into his playground – report

Bournemouth have slapped a £70 million price tag on reported Manchester United target Antoine Semenyo, according to The i Paper.

United are expected to dip into the market this summer in search of attacking reinforcements. Since his arrival as Erik ten Hag’s replacement in November, Ruben Amorim has struggled to get the current crop of players acclimated to his preferred 3-4-3 system.

There is an acceptance both within and outside the club that Amorim is in desperate need of more quality options, especially in the forward positions.

In addition to securing the services of a striker, United have been tipped to bring in a right-sided forward. Some of the players the Red Devils continue to be linked to include Francisco Trincao (Sporting CP), Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) and of course, Brentford’s Semenyo.

A report covered by The Peoples Person a week ago claimed that talks between United and Brentford over a summer deal for Semenyo are already underway.

It was stated that the 25-year-old is a “priority” signing for Amorim’s side.

In addition to operating on the right of that attack, Semenyo can also play as a striker, making him an even more attractive option.

The Ghana international has been a crucial part of Bournemouth’s charge for European football this term, contributing a career-high seven goals and four assists in 28 Premier League appearances. He has managed 14 goal contributions across all competitions.

It was suggested that United wanted to pay €40m (£33) for Semenyo but now, it has emerged that the Cherries want significantly more.

The i Paper reveal that Bournemouth are set to demand £70m, with Newcastle also interested in the player.

Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in Semenyo and last year, he admitted to being a supporter of the North London outfit.

Antoine Semenyo scored his first goal for Ghana a few days ago as they beat Chad 5-0 at Accra Sports Stadium.

It remains to be seen whether United will meet Bournemouth’s valuation or instead attempt to negotiate or explore other alternatives.

United chasing 22-yo midfield warrior who demolished Serie A giants in the UCL – report

Manchester United are reportedly interested in Club Brugge midfielder Ardon Jashari.

The Swiss midfielder has emerged as one of Europe’s most complete and modern players, showcasing his ability both domestically in Belgium and on the European stage in the Champions League.

Aston Villa eventually ended Brugge’s run, but Jashari’s performances earned widespread plaudits along the way.

According to Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old’s value has soared from €8 million to €25 million in just a few months, a figure that could yet rise further with Brugge reportedly setting a price tag closer to €30-35 million.

His showings against Serie A opposition, notably Atalanta and Juventus, underlined his quality and left scouts from Italy’s top clubs seriously impressed.

AC Milan, Roma and Juventus are currently tracking the midfielder, while Napoli, Lazio and Bologna have all previously been linked.

Bologna, in fact, came closest to sealing a deal just 18 months ago.

At the time, Jashari was available for just €6 million – a fee Brugge ultimately paid to secure his services. That now looks like a bargain.

Adding to the competition, Premier League clubs including United are understood to be monitoring the situation ahead of the summer transfer window.

Jashari’s profile fits the blueprint of the modern box-to-box midfielder. Technically gifted, tactically aware and capable of influencing both ends of the pitch, he has proven capable of performing on the biggest stage.

He could be Ruben Amorim’s ideal replacement for Casemiro at United.

There is still time to act, of course, but for clubs such as Roma or Milan, who could use fresh energy in midfield, Jashari’s name will be high on the shortlist – albeit now at a premium.

Due to the FA Cup and the international break, the Premier League hasn’t been as busy as is usually the case.

United played just two Premier League matches in March—a 1-1 draw against Arsenal and a 3-1 win over Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

The Red Devils took the lead against Arsenal courtesy of a superb free-kick effort from Fernandes. Declan Rice equalised in the second half, but United created a flurry of opportunities and were unlucky not to clinch all three points.

The performance vs. the Foxes was also impressive, with United dominating large spells of the match.

Fernandes set up goals for both Rasmus Højlund and Alejandro Garnacho before capping off his performance with a powerful finish of his own.

This means that the Portugal international was had a role to play in all four goals that United scored in March.

To secure the Premier League Player of the Month award, Fernandes will have to ward off competition from Anthony Elanga (Nottingham Forest), Rice (Arsenal), Nikola Milenkovic (Nottingham Forest), Jean-Ricner Bellegarde (Wolverhampton Wanderers) and Jan Paul van Hecke (Brighton & Hove Albion).

Vote for Fernandes here.

Meanwhile, Amorim is up against Fabian Huzeler and Nuno Espirito Santo of Brighton and Forest, respectively.

United are back in action on Tuesday, April 1, when they go away to the City Ground to face Forest.

The 20-time English champions currently lie in 13th place, with just 37 points gained after playing 29 matches.

“My mind is here”: United loanee strongly suggests he has no intention of returning to Old Trafford

Antony has insisted he harbours no ill feelings towards parent club Manchester United, despite his struggles there.

The winger has enjoyed a dramatic uptick in form since leaving United and joining Real Betis during the January transfer window.

He has excelled for Betis, netting an impressive four goals and delivering an equal number of assists in just 11 appearances. His impact has been immediate, with his jersey quickly becoming the club’s best-seller.

Unsurprisingly, Betis are keen on extending his stay at the club and talks are expected soon with United to try and get a deal over the line.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Antony is also scheduled to have a conversation with United, and now, the 25-year-old has strongly hinted that he has no interest in returning to Old Trafford.

Antony spoke to DAZN [via Metro] and remarked, “If they pay that kind of money for you, it’s because you have talent and quality.”

“Wherever I go, I’ll always speak highly of United. I’m very grateful to the club and to Erik ten Hag for what we experienced together, for the titles, and for everything I’ve learned.”

“I had difficult times there, but also very good ones. I think it prepared me to be here today, enjoying myself. My mind is here, and I’m very happy.”

Antony continued, “I found myself, I needed to find myself and be happy. I needed my family to be happy too. Every day that goes by I see that it was the best decision I could have made.”

“I’m enjoying the city, the club and everything. It reminds me a lot of Brazil because of the sun, the food, the people are also very happy. All of that is important for someone like me who is used to it.”

The United star explained that he doesn’t feel pressure because of his difficult upbringing in Brazil.

He told DAZN, “When I’m asked about pressure, I say ‘what pressure?’ I faced pressure in the favela when I didn’t have shoes to play, I played against drug traffickers and everything. That was real pressure.”

“When I left in the morning to go to school I often didn’t eat. So when I go through difficult moments I always think about the challenges that I overcame in the past.”

Qualification for the Champions League could significantly boost Betis’ chances of permanently securing Antony’s services and so, Los Verdiblancos will be eager to get a win when they host Sevilla on Sunday.

Serie A duo ready to offer €85m United attacker an escape route out of the Premier League – report

The future of Jadon Sancho, currently on loan at Chelsea from Manchester United, continues to be the subject of headlines with both clubs reportedly keen to get rid of the struggling star.

The Red Devils did well to move on the Englishman, considering his attitude issues off the pitch and application on it, sending him to the Blues with Chelsea obligated to buy him for £25 million should they finish above 14th.

It still represents a major loss for the Old Trafford side considering they paid €85 million to secure his signature back in 2021.

Thankfully, Chelsea are on course to comfortably finish in the top half but as per recent reports, the Stamford Bridge outfit are having cold feet given the 25-year-old’s declining form.

He has been in and out of Enzo Maresca’s team all season and has managed a meagre two goals in 28 appearances across all competitions. In fact, his form has dipped so significantly since December that the winger has no goals and only one assist in his last 14 games.

Chelsea don’t want Sancho

However, the London team will have to pay £5 million to get rid of the obligation, something they do not want to pay United. Instead, they will buy the England international only to sell him once the summer window opens.

The versatile attacker has expressed an interest in returning to former club Borussia Dortmund but as relayed by The Peoples Person, the German side are in no position to pay a substantial transfer fee along with his huge wages.

Bundesliga defending champions Bayer Leverkusen have also been linked with a move for the former Manchester City academy graduate with Teamtalk now relaying two Italian clubs have also joined the race.

Lazio and Roma, both struggling to try and qualify for the Champions League next season, are said to be interested in Sancho. But the report does not make clear whether they can afford him.

“Jadon Sancho is under the microscope at Chelsea as they ponder whether to pay a fee to opt out of signing the Manchester United loanee permanently, while four other clubs are considering moves for him this summer.

Maresca remains unconvinced by the England international, evidenced by the fact that he has started just 16 Premier League games this term.

Roma, Lazio join the race

Sources state that Sancho is still appreciated by Bundesliga clubs and former side Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen are keeping tabs on his situation.

“However, the German duo would face competition from Serie A sides should Sancho become available, with Lazio and Roma both keen, too.”

The English talent will have to play out of his skin from now until the end of the season to justify Chelsea keeping him for the long-term.

Or else, he might be forced to try a new adventure outside his home country because the 20-time English league champions are certainly not counting on him given he has burned all bridges with his parent club.

Amorim close to welcoming back “unbelievable” star just in time for United’s jam-packed April schedule – Athletic

Ruben Amorim has had to deal with a raging injury crisis since taking over the reigns at Manchester United but those dark clouds are slowly dissipating just in time as the club prepare for a glut of crucial fixtures.

The defence was the worst hit with Lisandro Martinez ruled out till the end of the year while Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven all sustained knocks.

As relayed by The Peoples Person, both the England international and the young Frenchman are set to be available for the Premier League game against Nottingham Forest while the ex-Arsenal starlet is finally out of his protective boot.

In further good news, The Athletic have claimed Luke Shaw, who has managed a 98 minutes of action this season, is also closing in on a return to training.

Shaw’s injury troubles

The England international played three times under the Portuguese head coach before sustaining a muscle injury.

While initially it was claimed he would be back in no time, the 29-year-old suffered a setback and has ended up missing four months of action.

His injury record has meant that the Red Devils have had to be extra careful with his recovery and they even sent the left-back to Doha to work his way back to fitness amid warm weather training.

And now, he is close to start training again on grass at Carrington. Given the obvious void at left centre-back, Amorim could do with the former Southampton star’s return.

“United have treated Shaw more cautiously than they would another player in the same position, due to his injury history.

Close to a return?

“He has since been allowed time in Doha, Qatar, to work his way to fitness in warm weather, and his return to the grass at Carrington is thought to be close.”

When in full flow, there are few players better in the left-back position than Shaw who has been described as “unbelievable“, but his injury record has really held him back, especially since signing a new deal.

And INEOS are far from pleased with this and considering his significant £150,000 gross per week wages (via capology), they ideally want much more in terms of availability at least.

Which is why they are mulling over selling him in the summer. Shaw will have to impress Amorim between now and the end of the season or else his United stint could soon be nearing its end.

TeamViewer Trending: Fantastic Mr. Fernandes

Making predictions about the future is a dangerous business. But when the sun sets on this period of United history, it seems inevitable that Bruno Fernandes will be remembered as the era’s outstanding player.

Admittedly, the span of years we’re talking about – the turbulent phase between Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement and the present day – will not be remembered too fondly by most Reds. But Bruno’s output is there, and it demands, and deserves, respect.

Throughout all the different managers, all the many team-mates, it’s always been there. Relentless productivity, no matter the peculiarity or difficulty of the circumstances.

If we didn’t already know that, recent weeks have made it blazingly clear. This is factually Manchester United’s worst Premier League campaign since England’s top flight rebranded in 1992. But would you know it looking at Bruno’s individual figures? Would you heck.

His 16 goals so far mean this is already his second-best individual season as a Red. He also has 15 assists, at the time of writing. He’s scored or assisted 40 per cent of our goals, including 12 of the last 15. He was named our Player of the Month for both February and March. I could go on… there’s enough stats to blast the Opta head office to Orion.

But, remarkably, despite all this, Bruno remains a controversial figure for some critics. On Sunday, after the Leicester win, the player responded directly to comments made by legendary former United skipper Roy Keane, who has complained that Fernandes is “not a fighter” and questioned the 30-year-old’s captaincy style.

Our recent Player of the Month polls, however, suggest that most Reds don’t agree…

STANDOUT MOMENT

How long have you got? Bruno has contributed in virtually every conceivable way in recent weeks, and his portfolio of goals and assists contains stunning levels of variety.

Direct free-kicks? Two, against Everton and Arsenal. Long-range classics? Yep, that Sunday-night pearler at Leicester. Penalties? Plenty, of course. Smart, ruthless finishes? There was one with the left foot, against Fulham, and one with the right, versus Real Sociedad.

Assists? They run the gamut, from a series of wicked set-pieces (Ipswich) to great through balls (Hojlund v Leicester).

But, writing purely as a fan, I think my favourite moment was in the latter stages of the 3-2 win over Ipswich. We’d been down to 10 men for more than half the game and were clinging onto the advantage earned through Harry Maguire’s header (another Fernandes assist). In the final stages, however, Bruno showed the full scope of his personality and spirit. In one memorable passage he made a block on the edge of United’s box, steamed up the left flank, almost created a goal with a cross for Noussair Mazraoui, and then dragged his legs all the way back again, as Ipswich threatened to counter. Adam Crafton, of The Athletic, tweeted: “The fitness and stamina of Bruno Fernandes is remarkable.”

It summed up Bruno’s leadership of a struggling team; the Portuguese willing to do every job necessary, across 90 draining minutes, to pull his team-mates through to victory. He might not be able to tackle like Bryan Robson and Roy Keane, but he matches them for energy, and leaves them in the dust when it comes to creativity and goalscoring.

But why compare directly? Footballers, and leaders, come in different shapes and sizes. And – it’s important to stress – every player must operate within the different scenarios and contexts that shape their careers. Keane, for example, was relegated with Nottingham Forest in 1993, and then won the Double at United just a year later.

PERFORMANCE INSIGHT

Perhaps the most interesting aspect of Fernandes’s recent performances is his adapted position. In Ruben Amorim’s much-discussed 3-4-2-1 system, he plays not in one of the two no.10 roles, as widely forecasted, but as a deeper central midfielder.

That adjustment was there from the early days under Amorim. After the 3-2 win over Bodo/Glimt – our new head coach’s first home game – the 40-year-old said of Bruno: “I think he is a midfielder.”

Previous United managers have somewhat disagreed with that – Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sometimes suggested he viewed Bruno as more of a forward than a midfielder – but Fernandes has continued in the role during recent weeks.

After our hero scored a hat-trick against Real Sociedad at Old Trafford earlier this month, Amorim explained that the idea behind the adjustment was designed to help the whole team. “Sometimes we need him at No.8, No.10, and No.6!” he smiled.

The theory is that Fernandes has both the legs and the vision to get the ball into the final third, whether it’s through passing or carrying it. That he has the short game to control the tempo of matches when required. At the moment it’s working, with United only beaten once (via penalties) in the last seven games.

BRUNO SAID

“I do the things in my own way, to try to be the best – not captain – but person and team-mate as I can,” Fernandes told Sky Sports, in the aftermath of our last game, at the King Power Stadium.

“I do it every day. I try to be an example in everything I do, on the training sessions, on the pitch, in everything I do. But obviously, not everyone will like [that], not everyone will think in the same way, and I respect every opinion of everyone… I accept that there is a lot of margin for improvement in my game, in my leadership, in everything I do, even in my own life.”

THE BOSS SAID

“When we need him, he’s always there,” praised Ruben Amorim, after the Europa League second leg against Real Sociedad, just three days before that trip to the East Midlands.

“He can change position, he can bring the ball forward, he can score goals. He can make transitions, like he showed today. In the last 10 minutes of the game, he can defend.

“He’s a perfect captain for our team. We need to help him to win titles, because he’s a legend.”

Club co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe joined Amorim’s chorus during his own recent interview with BBC Sport, saying: “The captain is a fantastic footballer. We definitely need Bruno.”

DID YOU KNOW?

No Premier League player has created more chances than Fernandes since he joined United from Sporting Club in January 2020, according to Sky Sports’ Peter Smith.

Bruno has now also surpassed 10 goals and 10 assists in all five of his full seasons in M16. His performance at Leicester took him to 50 Premier League assists, too – which adds him to an elite band of former United heroes that already contains Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Eric Cantona.

That’s some fine company to be keeping. You’ll do for us, Bruno.
