United “regret” signing key star Amorim is fond of, the club “wants him out” immediately – report

Manchester United “regret” signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna last summer, a report from Spain has claimed.

United forked out £36.5m to secure Zirkzee’s signature. He was brought in to help Rasmus Hojlund shoulder the burden of leading the line for the club.

Zirkzee had a dream start at United, netting a late winner against Fulham on his debut. However, he struggled to maintain that momentum, and his performances nosedived.

In 29 Premier League games played so far, the Netherlands international has managed just three goals and one assist. He has made 44 appearances across all competitions and found the back of the net six times.

Over the past few weeks, Ruben Amorim has primarily used Zirkzee in an attacking midfield role and he has shown very encouraging signs of improvement.

In the number 1o position, he has looked sharper and more confident, as evidenced by his willingness to take players on and come up with magical moments. Amorim has repeatedly praised Zirkzee and his impact on the pitch.

Nevertheless, this has done little to quash rumours about a potential exit in the summer. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Napoli boss Antonio Conte is pushing to land Zirkzee. He has also been mentioned to be on Juventus’ radar, but their interest may fizzle out following Thiago Motta’s sacking. Zirkzee worked under Motta at Bologna.

Now, Fichajes report that United “regret” recruiting Zirkzee and they already “want him out.”

The Spanish news outlet claims that the 23-year-old’s days at Old Trafford “are numbered” as he has failed to justify his price tag.

It’s understood that his performances “have fallen far short of expectations”, and as such, United are “willing to listen to offers to let him leave.”

Fichajes add, “This statistic [his goal contributions] has raised doubts among the coaching staff and board, who do not see the player as a key player in the team’s immediate future.”

Zirkzee is said to be in “a difficult position” due to the competition for places at United and his lack of consistency.

Unless he manages to turn things around before the end of the campaign, he will be made available for transfer.

The Red Devils are back in action on Tuesday when they go away to Nottingham Forest. Kick-off is at 19:00 GMT.

Hot topic: Where might Shaw play under Amorim?

Manchester United legend Wes Brown has welcomed Luke Shaw’s return to training and the selection headache that it will provide head coach Ruben Amorim.

As MUTV subscribers saw during Friday’s live broadcast, Shaw was one of five players who have returned to training alongside Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro.

Shaw is yet to feature under Amorim and at this stage it’s unclear when he will be available for selection, but his appearance on the grass at Carrington is certainly a huge positive.

When fit, Luke is viewed as one of the world’s best left-backs and it is felt he could excel in the wing-back role that Ruben’s philosophy requires. Furthermore, the versatile Red is equally suited to playing on the left of a back three.

Shaw returns to training – what next?

TRAINING LIVE | Luke Shaw is on the grass and desperate to impress, but he has fierce competition for a starting place…

Of course, mid-season signing Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu has impressed since joining the club in February and Treble winner Brown is excited to have competition for places on that flank.

“You know what, it is hard because Luke has obviously come back a couple of times now,” says Wes. “When he has been playing, he just starts where he finished off – really good and straight back in. All I would say to Luke is that he can’t think about it really, just get on with it.

“If he is training then that means he has done all of the preparation right, he has already been running, maybe a few tackles, slides, headers, he’ll have done all of that with the physios, so now it’s about getting back into the flow of things and getting up to training speed.

“The competition for Luke has stepped up a notch, 100 per cent, and I have always said that is what you want in any squad. You want competition and, if Luke does get back, then the manager is able to bring him in, maybe play them both at the same time, you don’t know.

“But it’s a great option for the manager. Listen, if Luke stays fit now and gets an opportunity, I am sure he will want to show what the manager what he has got because he hasn’t done a lot of that for the new head coach. It will be interesting, but Dorgu has come in and he’s been brilliant.

“I can’t fault him [Dorgu] at all. He’s got great pace, power, he loves to get forward, he is quick and he can defend as well. But we know what Luke can do that as well. Luke can probably play, if needed, in the back three that the manager has as well.

“It could be the perfect spot for Luke. But it is more about Luke staying fit now. To do that, he has got to forget about what has happened, just get back into training, get back in the flow, start to enjoy it, don’t think negatively, always positively and see if he can stay fit.”

Spanish giants prepared to sell 26-yo star for €60m, United first in line to get deal done – report

Manchester United have been told how much it could cost them to sign Barcelona star Ronald Araujo in the summer transfer window.

United are expected to address their backline at the end of the season despite spending over €100 million on signing Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt last summer.

Both Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof will exit Old Trafford as free agents upon the expiration of their respective contracts. Meanwhile, question marks remain over the long term future of Harry Maguire.

Lisandro Martinez has struggled with injuries over the last two years and is unlikely to return to full fitness this year after undergoing surgery on his torn anterior cruciate ligament.

According to Fichajes, United have “shown the greatest interest” in signing Araujo.

The Uruguayan renewed his contract at Camp Nou until 2031 earlier this year but that hasn’t put an end to suggestions the player and the club could go their separate ways.

The 26-year-old is no longer an “untouchable” player at Barca, with Hansi Flick preferring the partnership of Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez. Araujo has only made five LaLiga appearances this term.

Further, it is suggested that the Spanish giants are looking to bring in a new centre-back and are accordingly, prepared to listen to offers for the Uruguay international.

As per the Spanish outlet, Barcelona will consider selling Araujo if they receive a fee in the region of €60 million.

They add that United are willing to open negotiations with their Spanish counterparts in the summer to secure the central defender’s signature.

Araujo’s explosive pace could come in handy if Amorim tries to play with a high defensive line on a frequent basis.

Having said that, the Barcelona star, akin to Martinez, has suffered multiple injury setbacks in recent campaigns. As such, spending a big fee to acquire his services would make little sense for United.

Skinner delivers good news on Bizet and Sandberg

Friday 28 March 2025 11:00

Marc Skinner expects to have Celin Bizet and Anna Sandberg in his Manchester United Women squad for Sunday’s game against Everton.

Both players were forced off with injuries in last weekend’s 4-0 victory over Villa Park but, in his latest Q&A with club media, Marc delivered the good news that the pair are back in training.

It’s a welcome boost for the Reds ahead of the WSL clash at Leigh Sports Village, which is due to get under way at 12:00 BST.

“In all honesty, both have trained today so it’s really good news,” Marc told Zarah Connolly in an interview with club media, recorded on Wednesday.

“Anna’s come through, she had a scan [on a suspected hamstring issue]. All fine, which was really good news.

“Celin took that heavy blow [from a Danielle Turner challenge] but has come through and trained today.

“So, both are expected to be in the squad and in contention for the game on Sunday.”

One Red who won’t be available this weekend is former Everton defender Gabby George, who will serve a one-match suspension having picked up her fifth yellow card of the WSL season in the victory at Villa Park.

The availability of Sandberg, who came on for George at left-back last weekend, is sure to be even more of a positive then, as United look to take another step towards qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

Skinner’s side need three wins from our final five league games to secure a second-ever European campaign, although the boss says his players can’t look any further than the immediate task of facing Everton, who are a side on the up under Brian Sorensen.

The Toffees were winless across their opening seven fixtures in the competition this term, but have since won five and drawn one of the last 10, and are now in touching distance of progressing into the top half of the table.

Sandberg could replace George, who has started our last 15 WSL games.

“We know what’s in front of us, we know the challenges that we face,” Marc added. “I read a stat this morning that Everton are one of the most in-form teams in the league.

“Brian’s been able to bring in some reinforcements in the [winter transfer] window which have made them a lot better, but they’ve always been coached well by Brian, and it’s always been a tough challenge for us.

“We can’t really go beyond that – we know mathematically what we’ve got to do [to secure Champions League football], but it starts on Sunday and that’s all we can focus on.”

Man Utd transfer: Cristiano Ronaldo tells star to move to Old Trafford ahead of ‘blockbuster transfer window’

Former Man Utd striker Cristiano Ronaldo has told Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao to move to Old Trafford in the summer, according to reports.

The Red Devils have been having a terrible season with Ruben Amorim’s side currently sitting 13th in the Premier League table after beating Leicester City 3-0 before the international break.

Man Utd sacked Erik ten Hag at the end of October to bring in Amorim from Sporting CP in an effort to turn around the club’s fortunes as quickly as possible.

It hasn’t happened yet as the Red Devils head coach has struggled to get the Man Utd squad to adapt to his style of play, philosophy and tactics.

Amorim will be hoping that Man Utd can support him in the upcoming transfer market as he looks to bring some players in to suit his system.

And where better to look than at Sporting, where Amorim’s tactics paid off as he brought loads of success to the Portuguese club, with Trincao understood to be a top target at Old Trafford.

READ: Manchester United to shatter world transfer record if they find £25m buyer for Casemiro

Trincao has eight goals and 11 assists in 26 Portuguese top-flight matches and a report on Wednesday claimed that Man Utd are ‘willing to offer’ around £33m to sign the 25-year-old in the summer.

But another report earlier on Friday claimed that Sporting are ‘determined not to let Trincao go’ and Man Utd could end up having to pay as much as £70m to get him out of the Portuguese club.

An exclusive in United In Focus reveals their chances of signing the winger have been boosted with the report claiming that Man Utd ‘are set for a blockbuster summer transfer window’ and Ronaldo has ‘told’ international team-mate Trincao to ‘make Old Trafford move’.

The report adds:

‘United in Focus understands, after speaking with transfer expert Graeme Bailey, that Francisco Trincao has been advised to move to United this summer.

‘It is now clear that Trincao has been told that a move to Manchester United is right for him.

‘We understand that Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot have both not been shy about proclaiming the virtues of a move to Old Trafford to their international team-mate, but we can also reveal that Cristiano Ronaldo has recommended the move to the former Barcelona starlet.’

Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 appearances during his first spell at Old Trafford and former Red Devils striker Louis Saha insists it was a “privilege” to witness the Portugal international and Wayne Rooney blossom into world-class players.

Saha told Genting Casino: “I had the privilege to see those two characters, already big characters, coming to the side and felt completely obsessed about their football. It was a joy to see. I really felt like I was able to learn from them.

“I felt like they learned from me, I say that with humility, I really enjoyed seeing their trajectory after, because it shows how much you can grow as players, and as people as well.

“With the responsibility that those two had on their shoulders, it was immense because those guys were and they became, at 19, adults representing their country at the highest level.

“Big, big stars when they were 20. It’s enormous. Straight away I could see that because I could see those players week in, week every day on the training field, even if they had bad days. The type of dedication that they have for their sport, it’s amazing.”

United will secure Jarrad Branthwaite’s signature by fulfilling this one requirement – report

Manchester United transfer target Jarrad Branthwaite has revealed how likely he is to move to Old Trafford this summer.

In February, The Peoples Person noted that Everton were reportedly looking to convince the centre-back to remain at the club amid Man United’s interest.

In what appeared to be an effort to shut down Everton’s efforts to keep Branthwaite, United was reportedly ready to meet the Merseyside club’s price demands, whatever they may be.

Three days ago, Branthwaite’s personal opinion finally became known when it was reported that he would consider leaving Everton for a bigger club, which could increase his chances of earning a place in the England national squad.

Now, it appears as if United have earned their biggest transfer boost yet.

“Man Utd have Jarrad Branthwaite on their summer shopping list. But they will only move for him if they secure Champions League football next term,” The Sun reported.

“The most realistic way for that to happen is to win the Europa League this season.”

“Branthwaite is considering his future at Everton and would be open to joining United,” the report concluded, offering the first direct sign of the centre-back’s potential interest in joining United in particular.

While it has been a turbulent season filled with challenges for manager Ruben Amorim, his team is still very much in contention for the Europa League title.

Having demolished Real Sociedad 4-1 after a 1-1 away draw in the first leg, United have booked their spot in the quarter-finals, where they will come up against Lyon.

They are also the only team in any European competition this season to remain undefeated until now.

Considering their recent results, United are certainly on the rise, coming off a two-game winning streak which included the 4-1 victory as well as a resounding 3-0 win over Leicester City.

Should United continue their fine form, signing Branthwaite could become a reality rather than just a rumour.

Excellent news for Amorim as five Man United stars return to training ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been handed a major selection boost ahead of Tuesday’s meeting with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

For weeks before the international break, Amorim worked with a decimated squad amidst the spate of injuries that hit the team.

In defence in particular, United were stripped to the bare bones – a situation that became even worse after Ayden Heaven sustained a serious-looking injury in the 3-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

However, there is now some good news for Amorim and supporters as the Red Devils prepare to face Forest early next week.

The club have confirmed that the defensive trio of Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, and Leny Yoro has returned to training.

The three were part of the group that undertook sessions at Carrington today.

Maguire’s last appearance for United came in the FA Cup exit at the hands of Fulham on March 2. He played all 90 minutes but was unable to carry on into extra time, prompting Amorim to replace him with Heaven.

The 32-year-old has featured regularly under Amorim, who appears to be a fan of his.

Yoro was taken off at half-time during United’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford. He was also replaced by Heaven, who barely put a foot wrong for the second 45 minutes.

The Frenchman missed the return leg of the Europa League round of 16 tie with Real Sociedad as well as the victory over Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men.

Shaw has been sidelined since December’s 4-0 win over Everton and will be hoping to get a run of games and finally put his fitness problems behind him.

There is also a positive update on the goalkeeping front, with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton back in training.

During their absence, Amorim consistently included Elyh Harrison and Dermot Mee on the bench.

Forest vs. United kicks off at 19:00 GMT.

Five players have returned to training with Manchester United, ahead of Tuesday’s Premier League clash at Nottingham Forest.

Our cameras at Carrington have captured the good news, with Ruben Amorim’s squad looking in a healthier place, in advance of the resumption of domestic duties with the City Ground encounter against third-placed Forest.

Three of the returnees are defenders – Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Leny Yoro.

Maguire last appeared in the Emirates FA Cup game against Fulham earlier this month, while Shaw has been sidelined since December’s 4-0 win over Everton.

Yoro has only missed the last two matches, convincing victories over both Real Sociedad, in the Europa League, and Leicester City in the Premier League.

There is also a positive update on the goalkeeping front.

Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton have both been absent recently but they were spotted working back with the group again on Friday morning.

Amorim and his coaching staff will continue preparing the squad, in readiness for our first of seven fixtures in April.

With a Manchester derby at Old Trafford and the two-legged Europa League quarter-final against Lyon to also look forward to, this latest bulletin from our base is definitely a welcome one, as we embrace challenges at home and abroad.

Man Utd: Red Devils ‘influencers’ have ‘major misgivings’ over ‘not good enough’ star’s return

Manchester United players do not want Jadon Sancho to return to the club at the end of the season as they “do not believe he is good enough”.

Sancho moved to Chelsea on loan on deadline day in the summer and after promising displays when he first arrived at Stamford Bridge has slipped into the familiar frustrating groove he operated in during the majority of his time at United.

He’s started 16 Premier League games under Enzo Maresca this term, contributing two goals and four assists, but his levels have dipped to the extent where Chelsea have reportedly been considering paying a £5m break clause to renege on their £25m obligation to buy Sancho at the end of the season.

A report earlier this week also claimed there’s a chance they may sign Sancho and then immediately sell him on

It is also noted that a ‘return to Germany is on the cards’ after Sancho reportedly submitted a ‘transfer request’ to re-join Dortmund this summer.

‘The Blues are set to make a decision about Sancho’s future in the coming days, as his £25million move could be cancelled with a £5million payment to Man United.

‘However, it now looks likely that the 25-year-old will make the permanent move to Stamford Bridge before he could immediately be sold on.

‘Sancho is keen to put permanent roots down at a club after back-to-back loan spells away from Man United, and is likely to seek clarity over his future in the summer.

‘The possibility of a move back to Germany is also on the cards, as clubs across Europe remain keen on a potential agreement with the Blues.

‘However, there is a lot of work that has to take place behind the scenes before his Chelsea departure can be considered as no firm decisions have been made.’

The Manchester Evening News claims ‘influential figures in the United squad’ will hope his move to Chelsea goes through as while they ‘have no issue with Sancho’s personality’ they also ‘felt he was unable to cope with the demands of playing for the club’.

The Red Devils players ‘have major misgivings about the remote possibility of Jadon Sancho playing for the club again as they do not believe he is good enough’.

Sancho – who join United for £72m from Dortmund in 2021 – was ousted from the United squad by Erik ten Hag in September 2023 over what the Dutchman claimed was his lack of effort in training.

The winger refused to apologise publicly before returning to Dortmund on loan for the second half of last season – starring in the Bundesliga side’s run to the Champions League final – before moving to Chelsea.

The 25-year-old was named by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe as one of five players on the club’s books who are either “not good enough” or “overpaid” earlier this month and was widely condemned in February for celebrating Marcus Rashford’s loan move from United to Aston Villa by commenting “Freedom” on Rashford’s Instagram post announcing the switch.
