Mason Greenwood set to leave Marseille after massive fallout with manager- report

Former Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood is expected to leave Olympique de Marseille this summer despite a strong first campaign in Ligue 1.

This is according to pundit Ludovic Obraniak (via le10sport).

The 23-year-old arrived at Marseille from Manchester United during last summer’s transfer window, with the French club reportedly paying around €30 million for his services. Greenwood had fallen out of favour at Old Trafford and needed a fresh start following legal controversies and suspension from first-team football.

Initially, the move appeared to suit both parties. Greenwood made an explosive start at the Velodrome, quickly becoming a key part of Roberto De Zerbi’s plans and registering impressive numbers.

The forward has scored 17 goals and provided three assists in 30 appearances across all competitions so far this season, a return that has kept him among the top performers at the club statistically.

However, his performances have drawn mixed reviews in recent weeks.

Critics have pointed to a visible drop in involvement, particularly in his defensive work and pressing – both crucial elements of De Zerbi’s system.

Speaking on L’Équipe du Soir on Sunday evening, former Poland international Obraniak claimed Greenwood is already preparing for a summer exit, suggesting the player views Marseille as a springboard rather than a long-term home.

“Greenwood had a very satisfactory first part of the season and is now delivering an extremely average second part,” Obraniak said. “He’s still persona non grata in England, and no Premier League club wants him. Marseille took a big risk by signing him.”

The pundit acknowledged Greenwood’s contributions but questioned his mindset. “He’s a soloist. He’s producing the numbers – 17 goals, three assists – but I don’t see him committing in the long term. He’s using Marseille to relaunch his career elsewhere.”

The People’s Person earlier covered a report claiming a fallout between Greenwood and coach De Zerbi.

Despite the mixed perceptions, Greenwood has been a consistent attacking threat for Marseille.

His ability to produce moments of individual brilliance has earned him admiration, even if concerns linger about his all-round application.

His future now appears increasingly uncertain. Greenwood remains under contract at OM, but interest from other European clubs is likely to emerge if he continues to perform at this level.

With no route back to United and his status in English football still unresolved, the next move in Greenwood’s career may take him further across the continent.

Bombshell: United’s biggest competitors for world-class striker drop out of the race, it’s a slam dunk now – report

Manchester United had the better of the chances against noisy neighbours Manchester City on Sunday but the lack of cutting-edge up top meant the Manchester derby ended in a stalemate.

Rasmus Hojlund once again put in another performance to forget, a reminder that Ruben Amorim needs to move him on and bring in a ruthless finisher in the summer.

Links with Victor Osimhen are growing stronger everyday with The Peoples Person relaying reports that the Red Devils have submitted their first proposal to the player.

Napoli are keen to get rid and are even open to offering a discount to the striker’s Premier League suitors as they look to thwart Juventus from signing the 26-year-old.

Osimhen race

Apart from the 20-time English league champions, Chelsea have been long-term admirers of the Nigeria international and even came close to signing him last summer only for the move to collapse last minute.

Enzo Maresca is also on the lookout for an out-and-out No 9 and the Blues were expected to challenge for the Galatasaray loanee but CaughtOffside have claimed that the Stamford Bridge outfit have other targets on their agenda.

“According to Caught Offside sources, Chelsea have decided to step back from the race to sign Victor Osimhen. For now, the Nigerian striker is not considered one of the main targets for their summer transfer plans.

“While the Blues were previously entirely in the race for Osimhen, their interest has recently cooled. The Blues are now focused on exploring other options to strengthen their attack: names like Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko are now higher on Chelsea’s list.

Chelsea leave Osimhen race

“Meanwhile, Man United and Juventus remain in the race for Osimhen. The Red Devils are planning a major rebuild in attack and Osimhen is seen as a top-level striker who could lead the line at Man United next season.”

The former Lille ace has 28 goals and five assists in 32 games out on loan and he is expected to relay his decision on his future this month with Gala also keen on keeping hold of him.

United’s position has been strengthened by the fact that Osimhen has no qualms of moving to Old Trafford even if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League next season.

But given his excessive wage demands and Napoli’s asking price, it will be interesting to see if INEOS can afford such an extensive outlay. Which is why Saudi Pro League clubs are keeping an eye on proceedings.

United also have cost-effective options like Liam Delap and Lorenzo Lucca on their radar should a move for the Nigerian hitman not pan out.

Man Utd: Romano confirms ‘priority plan’ for Sancho, PL giants ‘to not continue together’ after Chelsea loan

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed his “information” on Chelsea loanee Jadon Sancho with Manchester United’s “priority” for this summer.

Sancho joined Man Utd from Borussia Dortmund for around £73m during the 2021 summer transfer window.

The England international failed to live up to expectations at Man Utd as he was heavily criticised for his poor performances and had a huge fallout with former boss Erik ten Hag last season.

The winger ended last season on loan at Dortmund and Man Utd sanctioned his loan move to Chelsea towards the end of last year’s summer window.

Sancho impressed at the start of this season, but he has declined in recent months and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will sign him permanently.

His loan to Chelsea includes an obligation to buy clause, but they can cancel this permanent deal by making a £5m payment to Man Utd.

Earlier this month, head coach Enzo Maresca remained coy when asked about Sancho’s future at Chelsea.

“To be honest, probably you have more news than me in terms of Jadon,” Maresca admitted.

READ: Premier League winners and losers: Villa and Fulham take honours as weary Liverpool stagger to the finish line

“For me, Jadon’s situation doesn’t change. It is exactly the same. For sure, in terms of numbers, he could do better, no doubt.

“But it is not just about Jadon. I think we have more players in the same situation. I don’t need to give Jadon a message because I speak with Jadon every day. I had a conversation yesterday with him. He just has to give his best until the end and this is what we want from Jadon.”

Now, Romano has revealed his “information” on Sancho, with the “current expectation” that United and Sancho will “not continue together”.

“Let me clarify something on Jadon Sancho, I told you in recent weeks that Chelsea have an obligation to buy for a £25m package,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

“So that’s an important part of the story, obligation to buy but with a clause worth £5m to basically send the player back to Manchester United in case they decide to not activate the option.

“But what I wanted to mention guys, is that my information on the recent stories about United is that even if Chelsea decide to send the player back to Old Trafford, the plan for Jadon Sancho and United is not to continue together.

“So the priority for Sancho is to stay at Chelsea – he still hopes to stay at Chelsea. In case Chelsea decide the opposite and send the player back to United, the current expectation is not for United and Sancho to continue together.

“It would take something absolutely crazy and completely driven by the coach, by Ruben Amorim, because the management already wanted to sell Sancho one year ago.”

Man Utd star brutally told he has ‘the touch of a baby elephant’ after Man City draw

Troy Deeney claims Man Utd wing-back Patrick Dorgu had “the touch of a baby elephant” during their 0-0 draw against Man City on Sunday.

The Red Devils are having a season to forget with Ruben Amorim’s side currently 13th in the Premier League after the Portuguese head coach replaced Erik ten Hag in November.

Performances and results have failed to improve much under Amorim and it looks unlikely they will qualify for Europe next season unless they win the Europa League.

Man Utd boss Amorim will be hoping to be given money in the summer to reconstruct his squad, while keeping all of his best players at the club.

But, with the financial situation at Man Utd currently bleak, the Red Devils could have to sell some of its prized assets in order to raise funds to bring in other players.

Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes have all been linked with transfers away from Old Trafford ahead of the summer.

But Deeney reckons Man Utd winger Garnacho is starting to give Amorim what he wants, while he criticised January signing Dorgu for his “touch of a baby elephant” in their boring 0-0 draw in the Manchester Derby.

Former Watford striker Deeney told Match of the Day 2: “You are starting to see Amorim’s work pay off.

“What Amorim wants from his 10s is them running behind the full-backs and the centre-backs. [For Garnacho’s chance a minute into the game], he could have gone on his left foot for the first effort and got his shot off.”

Deeney added: “He is switching play which is what Amorim wants.

“His [Garnacho] willingness to run in behind is what United need going forward and this is what Amorim is talking about.

“This touch from Dorgu is the touch of a baby elephant. It is so terrible. If you want to score goals you need to do better.

“But he is starting to build a nice connection down the left between Garnacho and Dorgu.”

Gary Neville suggested that Dorgu may need replacing at Man Utd just six months after joining, with five players needed, including two new wing-backs.

Neville said: They need five new players straight away before you even think about the rest of it. The three up front are not good enough and the two wing-backs, they’re not good enough.

“They need five players. They need to serve him with five players who are good enough in this system to be able to play his system the way he wants.”

United launch stunning raid to sign €75m magician with “face-to-face talks” set to take place – report

Manchester United have reportedly made “initial contact” to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha with the Brazilian international’s agent set to fly to England for “face-to-face talks” with prospective suitors.

TalkSPORT reveals the Red Devils are “interested” in Cunha with the club on the hunt “for a number 10 to fit into Ruben Amorim’s rigid 3-4-2-1 system.”

The Perfect Fit for Amorim

Cunha, 25, has thrived for Wolves this season in this exact formation, despite his side’s struggles. At times he has carried the Midlands club on his back, playing a pivotal role in guiding Wolves away from the relegation zone.

Cunha has scored 13 goals in the league this campaign. By comparison, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have combined for 12 league goals between them.

The Brazilian has also provided four assists while demonstrating excellent dribbling and ball progression abilities. He ranks in the 98th percentiles for progressive passes and successful take-ons, 95th for progressive carries and shot-creating actions and 97th for passes.

Put simply, Cunha makes things happen in the opposition half, in a way which Hojlund and Zirkzee both struggle to do while Alejandro Garnacho – United’s busiest attacker in the absence of Amad – often fails to be add the finishing touch to, despite good initial play.

Furthermore, the Wolves number ten is an extremely hard working player who combines the skill of South American samba with a potent pairing of physicality and pressing. He ranks in the 99th percentile for interceptions and 92nd for tackles and possesses a powerful frame well-suited to the rigours of English football –  attributes which Amorim will welcome to his ranks.

The Three-Way Race

The report by talkSPORT contends there is a three-way race for Cunha emerging with United joined by Premier League rivals Arsenal and Nottingham Forest in the hunt for the 25-year-old.

However, talkSPORT reveals Arsenal are prioritising other players over the Brazilian with Spanish winger Nico Willians and Sporting CP striker Victor Gyokeres the Gunners’ first-choice targets.

Similarly, the report states Nottingham Forest retain a “firm interest” in Cunha but sources close to the 25-year-old reveal he “prefers to join a big-six club, even if Forest qualify for the Champions League.”

This could leave United with a free run at the Brazilian international with his contract containing a release clause worth around £62.5 million – a sizeable fee, but a manageable one for the Red Devils, despite the pressures of PSR.

Furthermore, Ben Jacobs (Give Me Sport) reveals Cunha would still be interested in a move to Old Trafford even if United do not win the Europa League and secure Champions League football next season.

At 25 years of age, a proven goal scorer with Premier League experience and a skillset which has excelled in the exact formation Amorim utilises, Cunha increasingly looks like a target United cannot afford to miss out on this summer. And talkSPORT’s report appears to suggest the Reds are right at the front of the queue to ensure they do not.

Man City: Jack Grealish suffers ‘assault’ as Pep Guardiola blasts Man United fans for ‘lack of class’

A man in his 20s has been arrested for allegedly assaulting Man City’s Jack Grealish at Old Trafford on Sunday, according to reports.

News broke on Monday afternoon that Grealish, 29, was the subject of an attack near the players’ tunnel in the aftermath of a bore draw between the fierce rivals.

It’s thought that Grealish was encouraged to approach the man in question at the end of the match when he lashed out and allegedly slapped the Man City player in the face.

Grealish made headlines last week as he bravely discussed the death of his younger brother, Keelan, on the 25th anniversary of his passing, an event that he still carries with him and has had a profound effect on his life and career.

It’s been an emotional month so far for the former England international, who celebrated the high of a first goal in 16 months in the Citizen’s win over Leicester City.

Sunday’s frustrating 16-minute cameo saw Grealish fail to make any meaningful contribution in front of goal as the two teams cancelled each other out.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Alfie Holt, 20, of Haven Drive, Droylsden, has been charged with assault. He will appear at Manchester Magistrates Court.”

The near neighbours huffed and puffed their way to an ugly 0-0 draw on Super Sunday, with Phil Foden fashioning the only big chance of the game in the first half.

Man United fans had already come under fire from Pep Guardiola in his post-match press conference for chants aimed at the England attacker, lamenting them for showing a “lack of class” and saying they should be “ashamed”.

Foden spent just 58 minutes on the pitch at Old Trafford but was subjected to repetitive jeers whenever he touched the ball, accompanied with chants labelling his Mum a ‘s**g’.

His immediate reaction was to sarcastically clap the United supporters responsible and offer a thumbs up as City lined up to take a set piece.

The 24-year-old could be seen being comforted by Guardiola on the sidelines after the Spaniard had pulled him out of the firing line.

Speaking after the match, Guardiola said: “We are so exposed, people who are on the screen in world football: managers, owners, and football players especially.

Honestly, I don’t understand the mind of the people involving the mum of Phil. It’s a lack of integrity, class, and they should be ashamed.”

Neither Man United nor Man City have commented on the allegations made.

Liverpool losers after loss of two-year unbeaten record, Manchester clubs both join them

Liverpool lost when it no longer mattered as, in a way, did Southampton. Meanwhile, Fulham, Villa, Wolves and very grudgingly Spurs take their places in the winners’ circle.

Winners

Aston Villa
Could have been forgiven for taking their eye slightly off the boil ahead of a Champions League quarter-final trip to Paris but, whatever strife they’ve had trying to balance domestic and continental action after European games, there was no evidence of that before the biggest one of the lot.

A 15-minute blitz took Villa into a commanding two-goal lead that Forest could not claw back despite a much-improved second-half showing after they’d abandoned a disastrous back-five experiment that left an entire defence lost and confused and entirely unsure who was marking who, if indeed anyone was marking anyone at all. Man United can relate, at least.

A fine Saturday for Villa became an even better weekend, with Chelsea and Man City each picking up only a single point to keep Unai Emery’s team in with a very real chance of another crack at the Big Cup even in the unlikely event they don’t win it this season.

The January transfer window was an obvious difference-maker for Villa, and only Liverpool have more Premier League points since it closed, confusingly, in February.

It’s a climax to the season alive with possibility on three fronts for an in-form Villa. But they really might live to rue that terrible goal difference.

Fulham
There’s plenty of debate currently about whether the Premier League this season has been good or bad. We are firmly in the ‘bad’ camp, not because we’re here to have a pop at anyone but because on a fundamental level when you know for sure who’s going to win the league and which three teams are getting relegated with about a third of the season left to play as we did this campaign, that is Not Good.

What we will accept is the argument that in the round there has been perhaps a levelling rather than drop in quality. Some big teams have got hilariously worse, while the Premier League’s ‘middle class’, pockets bulging from TV riches, have been able to pounce on the folly of those bigger teams and close all the gaps.

So while we have a runaway leader and cast-adrift bottom three, there has perhaps never been a smaller quality gap between second and 17th. The combined gaps between first and second and 17th and 18th now stand at 23 points. The points-span covering absolutely everyone who isn’t going to win the league or go down is only 30.

And absolutely nobody better sums up this idea of a 16-team mid-table than Fulham, who are a very good team indeed to sit roughly in the middle of this season’s Middle 16 but have got themselves there in the oddest of fashions.

What Fulham have essentially achieved is to render the opposition meaningless. It makes almost no statistically significant difference who Fulham are playing, or indeed where they are playing them.

This is a team that has taken four points off Liverpool but only three off Ipswich and Southampton combined. They have lost 4-1 at home Wolves, yet won at Chelsea and Newcastle.

They had bits of this egalitarian approach in place last season, where they took four points from Arsenal but one from Burnley.

But they’ve perfected it this year. Most pleasingly, their 48 Premier League points are split down the middle between those won against teams in the top half and those in the bottom half. They’ve got 26 home points and 22 away.

Their longest winning run in the league this year is two games, as is their longest losing streak. They did at one point draw three games in a row, yet even then they merely proved the general thrust of what we’re saying here because those three draws came against Arsenal, Liverpool and… Southampton.

Wolves
The relegation battle briefly flickered back into life when Ipswich were still leading Wolves 1-0 deep into the second half.

There was a very real prospect of a 12-point gap being cut in half in just four days, and that would inevitably have set arseholes twitching even if in all likelihood Wolves would still have been fine.

Two late goals later, and the relegation battle is once again deceased. Bereft of life, it rests in peace.

But having now surely secured survival, the big question now is where Wolves go from here? They have a smattering of really quite wonderful players for a team in 17th and a manager who is starting to get a tune out of them relatively consistently.

Nobody has more points than Wolves’ 13 across the last six games. They always did look the odd one out when there was a clear bottom four; in the short term they could yet spend the rest of this season proving themselves still the odd one out among their new table neighbours Spurs, West Ham, Everton and Man United. It’s a distracted Spurs at home next for a team that can now play with absolute freedom.

But our minds start to wander to next season and what kind of Nottingham Forest-style freakery we might get from a midlands-based team, reinvigorated by the mid-season arrival of a Portuguese manager and surviving a pretty serious flirt with relegation.

Tottenham
Avoided the embarrassment of the Spursiest hat-trick ever as Southampton failed to add their names to Ipswich and Leicester among the litany of teams to have won at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season.

Spurs were far from convincing in a 3-1 win over the now-relegated Saints, and did nothing to suggest they are a team about to pull a season-saving Europa League triumph out of their arses, yet beggars cannot be choosers and for this version of Spurs a win is a win is a win.

But this is a broken team under a broken manager, whose complaints against VAR remain as valid as ever but have assumed the distinct position of crutch, something crowd-pleasing to focus on instead of the fact that the injury crisis has ended with no tangible improvement in Spurs’ performances or results, and perhaps worse still the growing signs that even the misguided purity of Angeball has been fatally compromised.

Still, at least when he’s making pointed hand gestures about VAR he isn’t attempting to gaslight an entire fanbase.

Spurs sent Southampton down on Sunday, but there remains an alarmingly real prospect for someone to do likewise to Spurs next season unless something changes.

A glance at Spurs’ recent results and seven remaining fixtures gives a non-zero chance that this was their final win of the season. We fully expect that sometime around the October international break we’ll be saying things like ‘Spurs haven’t beaten a current Premier League team since February’.

Here endeth the gloomiest ever entry in the ‘winners’ section.

Brennan Johnson
We remain quite sure he’s nothing more than a Temu Raheem Sterling, but he’s played himself right into contention for Tottenham’s season-defining games over the next couple of Thursdays after scoring his 10th and 11th league goals of the season.

It’s more Premier League goals than Luis Diaz or Raul Jimenez or Evanilson or Kai Havertz or Nicolas Jackson or Bruno Fernandes or Jarrod Bowen or Cody Gakpo or Phil Foden or indeed any other Spurs player has managed this season.

It’s not nothing.

Ange Postecoglou
Prompting the same club to sack two managers in the same season, you’ll never sing that.

Crystal Palace
Secured a rare Premier League double over A23 rivals Brighton to put the midweek blip against Southampton behind them and, as well as moving within seven points of their first ever 50-point Premier League season, have now positioned themselves such that a win over Newcastle in their game in hand next week could lift them right into European contention.

READ MOREChampions League-chasing FA Cup rivals Palace and Villa behind only Barca and PSG in European form table

Newcastle
Not normal to find yourselves in the winners’ enclosure on a weekend where you don’t even have a game, but these are not normal times for the Carabao Cup winners.

A lovely bunch of weekend results in which the only team now above Newcastle to win was Aston Villa, who beat another team above them anyway, sets the Magpies up beautifully to add Champions League qualification to that long-craved silverware.

If Eddie Howe’s side can take care of business in their three games over the next 10 days against Leicester (straightforward), Man United (ditto) and Palace (admittedly less straightforward) they will be sniffing a shot at third place, never mind merely scrambling their way to fifth.

Losers

Southampton
A long-certain relegation now rubber-stamped in record time with an awkward-looking road back, and the final nail hammered home by a half-baked and half-arsed Spurs team that only very briefly appeared in any real danger of Spursing themselves in this one.

The relegation isn’t even the worst thing. That’s been coming for months, now. Spurs’ current navel-gazing uncertain miserabilism meant this was one of Southampton’s more plausible routes past 11 points. It now seems like it’s all eyes on Leicester next month.

Aaron Ramsdale
Three relegations with three different clubs in six years.

Ipswich
Fitting really that Ipswich’s own relegation was effectively confirmed in a home game that promised much but in the end delivered only more disappointment.

It’s not just that Ipswich have managed only seven home points all season – although it is also definitely that – but the fact those points haven’t even come in the most decisive fixtures.

Beating Chelsea is lovely and very good, well done for that, but it’s an absurd win to have as your only one at home all season.

Ipswich have now emerged with a solitary point from their three six-pointer home games against the teams who have spent most of this season in their orbit while also being thrashed by Tottenham and well beaten by Everton back when things felt decidedly bleaker in the blue half of Liverpool.

Liverpool
Look, if you’re going to look completely knackered and newly short on ideas about what to do about that, then do so when you’re 11 points clear with seven games to play of a pursuer who absolutely cannot be trusted to pounce even if you do completely collapse in a shattered heap.

Nothing is f*cked. It’s going to be okay. Liverpool are still going to win the league. But there’s also no doubt that the season is ending in a weird fashion for them.

In the space of four games around the international break, Liverpool have seen two clear routes to silverware end and now suffered a first Premier League defeat in a game they’ve led since the 2022/23 season.

Given that formidable record under both Klopp and Slot of pressing home any advantage, the sight of Fulham turning a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead across 14 error-strewn first-half minutes has to be cause for longer-term alarm.

The futures of the Contract Three are a big factor in why these Liverpool foundations suddenly feel so fragile, but not the only one as the sense grows that even with a new manager this season has represented the last hurrah of something brilliant rather than the exciting start of a new cycle.

The Contract Three
Trent Alexander-Arnold is injured, Virgil van Dijk is making wholly uncharacteristic errors surely born of utter exhaustion, while Mo Salah has stopped producing anything much at all after months and months of goal-and-assist numbers never before seen in the Premier League.

Van Dijk looks alarmingly attackable at the moment, with Fulham really doing nothing more this weekend than finishing what Beto had started in midweek.

Salah won only one of his eight duels against Fulham, while two of the (still ludicrously low) six Premier League games in which he’s contributed neither a goal nor an assist have now happened in the last five days.

Nottingham Forest
Seems churlish and is churlish to criticise pretty much anything Forest have done this season, but if they were to end up missing out on Champions League qualification at the end of this season they may look back with particular rue on the decision to start with a back five at Villa Park.

By the time Nuno and the lads were able to correct a decision that had played a huge part in Villa racing into a 2-0 lead inside 15 minutes, Forest had left themselves too much to do.

They were the better side by miles in the second half at Villa, but missed a string of chances and, with only Jota Silva’s goal to show for their efforts, have missed an opportunity not only to cement their own top-five standing but put a significant dent in Villa’s chances.

The draws elsewhere for Chelsea and Man City mitigate the impact to a pretty significant extent, but also only exacerbate the feeling of a squandered chance against a Villa side who were always going to have to hedge their bets to some extent between Saturday’s game and the upcoming trip to Paris.

A narrow defeat at a team as good as Villa shouldn’t be the one that defines any season, but the largely self-inflicted nature of it at such a pivotal time of the season leaves a definite sting.

Manchester
The drabbest, most sorrowful of derbies between a United side in genuine danger of finishing below even Spurs and a City one now likely to find themselves outside even the expanded Champions League spots by the morning.

We’ve already managed to put together far more words than is sensible or necessary on a game of such utter drudgery, and you will get no fresh ones here. You can’t make us.

Brighton
The international break can be a burden for all, but there’s nearly always a team for whom it comes as a complete season-wrecking momentum killer. This year, that team appears to be Brighton.

Before the international break they were enjoying a seven-game unbeaten run that included FA Cup successes against both Chelsea and Newcastle and a march towards Champions League contention in the league.

Since the international break they have scored one goal in 300 minutes of football, gone out of the FA Cup and lost back-to-back league games against Villa and Palace to drop back into the mid-table pack.

The good news is that at least it’s Leicester up next.

Bournemouth
Now find themselves inside the bottom three on the form table. Takes something special to do that this season of all seasons, but especially when that two-points-from-six-games collapse comes on the back of a run of eight wins and four draws in the previous 13.

Chelsea
On December 8, Chelsea beat Spurs 4-3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In eight Premier League away games combined since that nonsense they’ve cobbled together exactly the same number of points and scored fewer goals.

The fact they are still seemingly heading for the Champions League despite themselves is a black mark against every single team currently below them in the table.

United make ambitious offer to land 26-yo star, Bruno Fernandes will love the signing – report

Manchester United and Chelsea are locking horns for Sporting CP goal-machine Viktor Gyokeres, as per reports.

On Sunday afternoon, United were left rueing missed chances yet again, as the Red Devils failed to win all three points in the Manchester derby.

City were there to be beaten, and Bruno Fernandes did create multiple chances but his teammates could not capitalise.

At this point, it is widely accepted that both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee are not cut out to spearhead United’s attack.

The club’s hierarchy have the same view, as they are reportedly looking to sign a high-profile number nine.

Manchester United want Viktor Gyokeres

According to Fichajes, United are determined to sign the Sporting superstar but face firm competition from Chelsea.

Both Premier League giants have reportedly offered a fee of €75 million” (£64.07m) for the 26-year-old Sweden international.

Gyokeres’s contract, which runs until 2028, includes a release clause, valued at €100m.

Gyokeres established himself as one of Europe’s most prolific strikers under Ruben Amorim in Lisbon and it appears the Portuguese tactician is keen on reuniting with his former forward at Old Trafford.

The Swede has not hit the brakes on his progress following Amorim’s mid-season move to United, having so far bagged a staggering 43 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this term.

Chelsea also want to reinforce their attack and believe that Gyokeres, who shined in the Championship with Coventry City, can adapt to the Premier League fast.

The Spanish outlet fail to underline Gyokeres’s preference. Fourth-placed Chelsea are in a position to offer Champions League football, while United may be considered a lucrative option for him due to his history with Amorim.

Man Utd suffer ‘bad news’ blow as one Red Devils star with no ‘way back’ is ‘done with’ Amorim’s side

Pundit Ben Foster has explained why he thinks Marcus Rashford’s return to form for Aston Villa is “bad news” for Manchester United.

Rashford announced his intention to leave Man Utd ahead of the winter transfer window and he got his wish, joining Aston Villa on loan with an option to buy around £40m.

Several European giants were put off by Rashford’s huge salary and poor form over the past couple of seasons, but Aston Villa decided to take a punt on the England international after they sold Jhon Duran to Al Nassr.

The 27-year-old has shone for Unai Emery’s side in recent weeks, grabbing three goals and four assists in his 12 appearances across all competitions.

It was hoped that the appointment of Ruben Amorim would boost Rashford, but they butted heads before he left in January and a recent report claimed his “career” at Old Trafford “is over”.

Foster reckons Rashford is “done with” Man Utd and “playing for his move” elsewhere.

“Marcus Rashford looks happy playing,” Foster said on his Fozcast podcast.

“He looks strong, he looks quick and he’s scoring goals. He’s got a lovely little partnership with some of those players at Villa like Asensio.

“It’s nice to see but it’s all bad news for Man United because all of their ex-players are just going out and having a nice time and enjoying their football.

“They’ve got a smile on their face, but they’re not good enough for that Man United team, apparently.

“He is 100 per cent playing for his move and I don’t see a way back. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s from Man United’s side – I think Rashford is done with them now. Sometimes it just comes to an end.”

Foster added: “I think he would feel like the way he’s been treated isn’t good enough.

“Whether it’s deserved or not [the criticism], I think you see that he’s at a club now where they’re enjoying him and he’s enjoying them.”

It remains to be seen whether Villa will sign Rashford permanently, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed “what he can say” about this proposed deal.

“Aston Villa are very happy with Marcus Rashford in general. So I don’t think, in any case, if they decided to trigger the £40million option clause, I don’t think they would do that just to sell the player again,” Romano revealed.

“So in that case, I see Marcus Rashford staying at Aston Villa and having the opportunity to make something long-term with the club.

“What I can say about Marcus Rashford is that it’s going to be really important to understand financially what happens for Aston Villa.

“So now they’re obviously really focused on the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and to see what happens in the Premier League table from now to the end of the season. That’s going to be obviously really important, and then we will have to see financially.”
