Elanga to Man Utd as Liverpool re-sign Solanke in Premier League reunion list

It is better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all, but as football fans, we can often spend more time than we should wondering about the ones that got away.

We have all seen a player head out the door and been desperate to see him walk back in, so we are picking one player for each Premier League club to re-sign.

To clarify, this is a dream scenario because, let’s be honest, there’s not enough money in the world to convince Virgil van Dijk to head back to Southampton. Anyway, on with the list…

Arsenal

Although Mikel Merino has performed surprisingly well in this uncomfortable role, there is no escaping the fact that Arsenal could use a proper number 9.

This summer looks likely to see a big name like Alexander Isak or Viktor Gyokeres arrive, but Arsenal desperately need attacking strength in depth and we think Monaco striker Folarin Balogun would fit the bill.

The 23-year-old came through the Arsenal academy but left before even making a league appearance. Since his departure, he has scored 11 goals in 46 games for Monaco and while he is not the world-beater Arsenal perhaps need, he would at least prevent them throwing a midfielder up top.

Aston Villa

Villa have struggled to recapture their Premier League form of last year, and that is in no small part due to the departure of Douglas Luiz.

The midfielder was voted Player of the Year in the 2022/23 season and kicked on again the following year. Boubacar Kamara and Youri Tielemans have exceeded expectations but Luiz is incomparable.

Bournemouth

It’s a straight choice between Dominic Solanke or Nathan Ake for Bournemouth, and with Evanilson at the club, we will opt for the defender.

Since leaving the Cherries, Ake has won six Premier League titles and the Champions League, bringing some valuable experience despite still only being 30.

Brentford

Ivan Toney’s departure to Saudi Arabia has done little to stop Brentford, who are competing for their second top-half finish in the last three years.

And while Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa keep finding the net, the Bees can afford to avoid the Ollie Watkins temptation and instead focus on the other end of the pitch. They have the eighth-leakiest defence so let’s bring back Ezri Konsa, who has established himself as an England international at Aston Villa.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Alexis Mac Allister is now part of a soon-to-be Premier League-winning midfield, and for a Brighton side that looks like it’s running out of ideas, his creativity and passing could unlock some doors for Fabian Hurzeler’s side.

Chelsea

Chelsea’s departure list is as long as that of other teams’ entire squads, but while the likes of Kevin de Bruyne and Mohamed Salah are often cited as ones that got away, there are other names that have slipped through the net.

In terms of areas they need to strengthen this season, there is an obvious weakness: the goalkeeper.

Chelsea were derided as a joke for having eight keepers on the books heading into this season but none of them are really up to scratch with Robert Sanchez keeping just seven clean sheets.

So it would be handy if they could re-sign arguably the best keeper in the world: Thibaut Courtois.

The Belgian has saved Madrid on more than one occasion and kept the Arsenal score more respectful than it perhaps deserved.

Crystal Palace

An easy choice for Palace with Michael Olise currently at the soon-to-be Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Still only 23, Olise, along with Eberechi Eze, was part of an exciting young attacking line-up for the Eagles and has since kicked on, becoming a significant part of France’s Olympic success and playing a part in 19 goals for Bayern this season.

Everton

If they put down the pitchforks for long enough, Everton fans may enjoy seeing Anthony Gordon back at his home club.

The Toffees have struggled for goals this year, with only the promoted sides scoring fewer, and Gordon could undoubtedly help out in that department.

And besides, we know how David Moyes can get the best out of young wingers. Adnan Januzaj anyone?

Fulham

Saudi’s gain was the Premier League’s loss when Aleksandar Mitrovic departed in 2023.

During his time at Craven Cottage, Mitrovic could not stop a) scoring and b) getting aggie. He broke the record for goals in the Championship with 43 in 46 games and the record for arms thrown in the air in the Premier League.

The top flight was a step up, but he still managed to score 14 goals in 24 games. Let’s be honest, we would all love to see him back.

Ipswich Town

Ipswich’s recent return to the Premier League means they are not blessed with outstanding talent to have played for the club, but one obvious area is centre-back.

Tyrone Mings played for the Tractor Boys from 2012 to 2015 and Ipswich have been particularly weak at the back this season.

Fast-forward to next season and it will be Liam Delap.

Leicester City

If you spent 12 hours thinking about where Leicester are weakest, that wasted time would still be shorter than their current drought of goals at home.

While the defence is certainly not in great shape, you can’t win games if you don’t score and Leicester desperately need some kind of creativity. Enter James Maddison.

Maddison may be a rung down from the best midfielders in the league but he would represent a significant step up from the Foxes’ current crop.

It would come too late to service Jamie Vardy, mind.

Ignoring the obvious answer of Trent Alexander-Arnold in a few weeks’ time, Liverpool’s main area to strengthen is the striker position.

Salah’s 27 goals are more than double any other Liverpool player this season, and relying on a 32-year-old to stay injury-free seems a risky move for a team fighting for the title.

The problem is that Liverpool have not had a load of great number 9s over the years. With that in mind, we are putting forward Dominic Solanke. Before you get your pitchforks out, we know his stint at Anfield was not too stellar, but he has grown as a player since then.

Nine goals in 38 league games for Bournemouth last year showed what he was capable of, and he would be a handy rotation player for the Anfield side.

MAILBOX: Liverpool ‘locksmith’ options include Arsenal tormentor and Actual Kevin de Bruyne

Manchester City

Cole Palmer may have gone off the boil – or ‘on the boil’ if you consider his nickname – but he is still one of the best players in the league at just 22.

Last season, Palmer broke through and made every City fan wonder why they had let him go to a rival. Couple that with City’s midfield now looking particularly old, and he would have been an ideal successor to Kevin de Bruyne had Pep Guardiola and co. not decided to get rid.

Manchester United

There’s a long list of players who have improved after leaving Manchester United and while Antony and Marcus Rashford will return in the summer, Anthony Elanga left permanently in 2021.

Moving to Forest has seen the Swedish international flourish, and nobody has created more Premier League goals for Forest.

To remind them of what they had lost, Elanga scored the only goal in a win against United.

This one has actual legs because United are said to be interested.

Newcastle United

Newcastle may be funded by Saudi Arabia, but PSR rules forced them to let local lad Elliot Anderson join Nottingham Forest last summer.

Since heading south, Anderson has become a key part of a Forest side punching above its weight and only Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga have created more goals this season.

Breaking into Newcastle’s midfield would be tough, but his £35m fee already looks cheap.

Nottingham Forest

Forest are certainly blessed in the winger department, but considering they have struggled for form of late, having a plan B in the form of Brennan Johnson would be a boon.

Still only 23, the former Forest player is one of few Spurs players to have had a half-decent season.

Southampton

Known for having a strong academy and scouting department, Southampton are blessed with several players who they would have loved to call upon this season.

But there is no more obvious place to start than at the back with the Saints conceding more goals than any other team in the league this season.

What better way to try and plug that particularly large gap then with the return of Virgil van Dijk, who left St Mary’s for Liverpool in 2018?

Saints fans do not have much love for their old player, given the manner of his departure, but if he managed to stop at least some of the goals going in, fickle football fans would soon be singing his name once again.

Tottenham Hotspur

Tempting as it is to say Luka Modric, a 39-year-old may not be the ideal choice in the Premier League, so we will go with one of Spurs’ favourite sons: Harry Kane.

Desperate for a trophy, Kane left Spurs perhaps a few years too late, but with one hand on the Bundesliga, he may fancy coming back to target Alan Shearer’s record.

West Ham

A trophy-winning captain is hard to beat, so for West Ham, we’re going for Declan Rice.

The club is arguably still in the same position, if not worse, when he left, but Rice has only improved since making the move across London.

Now one of the best midfielders in the world, Rice being back at the club may finally help West Ham kick on up the table.

Wolves

Pedro Neto or Diogo Jota are candidates but for Wolves, we are plumping for Morgan Gibbs-White.

Having gone on loan to Swansea and then Sheffield United, Gibbs-White moved permanently to Forest in 2022 but has hit his best form this year, scoring five goals and assisting seven, but he does so much more than that.

His price has skyrocketed since leaving Molineux, with several top clubs circling for the new England international.

“That would be amazing”: Ex-England man urges Rashford to snub United return and seal move to shock PL club

Former Premier League striker Ian Wright has backed Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford to complete a shock summer move to Newcastle.

Rashford’s future is uncertain as the transfer window approaches. He joined Aston Villa on loan in January after falling out of favour under Ruben Amorim, who regularly left him out of matchday squads, citing training and selection reasons.

Amorim revealed that he could not get Rashford to train or play football the way he wanted, hence he sanctioned a temporary move to Villa. The England international has looked rejuvenated at Villa, notching a decent four goals and six assists in seven games across all competitions.

Villa have the option of making his signing a permanent one for £40million but it’s currently unclear whether or not they will do so.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Rashford hasn’t entirely closed the door on a return to United, despite ongoing tension with Amorim.

It was stated that the 27-year-old also wants Champions League football, which may rule out Villa if they fail to qualify for the competition through a top-five league finish. Additionally, Rashford is not interested in switching to London clubs, amidst links to Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.

Now, Ian Wright has suggested a shocking new transfer destination for the Carrington academy graduate – Newcastle.

Speaking on his Ringer FC podcast, after it was the possibility of a Rashford move to Tyneside was put to him, Wright remarked, “It’s the kind of signing Newcastle should be making.”

“That would be amazing. That would be dangerous. Rashford at Newcastle? Yeah.”

“That would be really good. I really like that for Rashford. Rashford at Newcastle can be dangerous.”

Asked whether Rashford could go back to United, Wright answered, “Nope. No chance.”

Rashford has three years left on his contract with United.

Man Utd ‘refused’ to pay ‘secret backhander’ to sign Chelsea icon with ‘agreed’ transfer ‘within a whisker’

A new bombshell report claims Manchester United missed out on Chelsea legend Eden Hazard after ‘refusing’ to pay a ‘huge secret backhander’.

34-year-old Hazard called time on his professional career in 2023 after injuries marred his spell at Real Madrid.

Hazard’s supreme performance for Chelsea earned him a move to Real Madrid in 2019 in a huge deal, potentially worth around £124m including add-ons.

Chelsea fended off competition from several European rivals to sign Hazard for around £32m in June 2012 from Ligue Un outfit Lille.

Man Utd were reportedly among the clubs interested in Hazard before he headed to Stamford Bridge, and a new report has lifted the lid on how close the Red Devils came to signing the winger.

READ: Liam Delap is a slightly unhinged madman; Man Utd would be lucky to have him

The Times claims Man Utd ‘lost out on Hazard after refusing to pay an agent backhander’.

United ended up signing Shinji Kagawa as an alternative because Old Trafford chiefs ‘refused his agent’s demand for a secret multimillion-pound payment’.

The report explains:

‘United were within a whisker of signing the Belgium international in 2012 and had agreed a transfer fee with his club Lille and personal terms for the player, only for the move to break down after his then agent, John Bico, demanded a huge backhander.

‘Bico, who is now facing unconnected charges of financial crime in Belgium after being extradited from the United Arab Emirates late last year, suggested to club officials that they pay him £1million via the club and several million more direct from the owners.’

‘That arrangement would have bypassed the club accounts as well as any Financial Fair Play calculations. Bico was told that United could never agree to such a deal, which would have been a clear breach of Premier League and Uefa rules.

‘There is no suggestion that Hazard, who instead joined Chelsea that summer, was aware of the demand by his agent or has been involved in any wrongdoing.’

The detailed report has also provided some details on Bico’s dealings with Chelsea.

‘A Premier League investigation is continuing into allegations that in 2013 an offshore company belonging to Roman Abramovich, Chelsea’s owner at the time, made a €7million (£6million) payment to Bico via a Dubai company.

”Exactly what happened between Chelsea and Bico is the subject of a Premier League investigation that has been going on since 2022, shortly after Abramovich sold the club to the Todd Boehly/Clearlake Capital consortium. The due diligence process around the takeover led the new owners to report to the Premier League and Uefa that the club had made alleged irregular payments connected to transfers during the previous ownership.

‘The Times revealed in August 2023 that Chelsea were being investigated for payments to offshore entities related to the transfers of Willian and Samuel Eto’o from the Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala in August 2013, among other deals.

‘Four months later, the Bureau for Investigative Journalism and The Guardian reported that a cache of leaked documents known as the “Cyprus Confidential” files included a contract showing a March 2013 agreement for Abramovich’s British Virgin Islands-registered company Leiston Holdings to pay €7million to a Dubai-based company called Gulf Value FZE for “advisory services […] related to […] sport research and consultancy”. The contract was signed on the company’s behalf by Hazard’s agent Bico, who is also known as Bico-Penaque.’

“It’s amazing to see”: United midfielder cannot stop raving about the potential of these three Carrington graduates

It has been a tough season domestically for Manchester United with the club currently languishing in 14th position in the Premier League while they exited both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup quite early this time out.

One thing that the club have got right this season is the involvement of Academy stars in the first team with the 20-time English league champions ranking second for minutes afforded to teenagers.

As many as three Carrington graduates have made their senior bow under Ruben Amorim — Chido Obi, Harry Amass and Tyler Fredricson.

And more could be on the way after the head coach announced that the team will prioritise the Europa League with the Red Devils being the only team in all of Europe to remain unbeaten up till this point.

Mount impressed with the Academy

Mason Mount, who missed four months of action due to injury, has been impressed with what he has seen from the youngsters and revealed his delight in an interview with club media.

The ex-Chelsea star will not have been used to seeing the senior team being so dependant on the academy at his former club and he pointed out that he has been helping all of them with pointers to try and adapt to the rigours of senior football.

“In the position I’m in now, I feel like I can give them the experience that I have. There’s younger and younger lads coming into the squad now and, obviously, it’s amazing to see.

“I can speak to them about a few different things, especially about playing, but also what they’re doing away from football and at the training ground.

“When you step up to this level, it’s tough, there’s a lot of demands and it can be up and down — that’s football. So, for me to be able to speak to them and give them some help or any tips here or there, I’ll always do that.”

On Amass

He was specifically asked about Amass, who has been a revelation in recent games and the Englishman explained how his confidence was what stood out as soon as he stepped into the dressing room.

“Harry is a top lad. He obviously came into the squad last season and trained with us a few times and we instantly saw what he could do.

“He wasn’t scared and came into training, he was getting the ball, was very good technically and was confident and that’s what we like. As a young player coming into the squad, you want them to be confident enough to step up.

“(Amass) has been brilliant. I see a lot of potential in him. Obviously, I didn’t come on in the game [where Amass made his debut] but seeing him come on, seeing him make his debut was very, very special. I was very proud of him.

“So, after the game, I went over to him and just said well done, I thought he done really well in the game, and there’s plenty more to come from him.”

On midfield talents

Mainoo is someone Mount has been seeing for sometime now and the United No 7 could not stop raving about him. He also spoke glowingly of fellow midfielder Toby Collyer, who has also broken through this term.

“I spoke to Kobbie quite a bit in pre-season and last season. You can see what he’s come in and done. He’s a very, very good player and he’s come to me a few times, just asking about positioning in games, and I’ve given my opinion on where he should go and that’s all he needed!

“The same with Tobes [Collyer]. He’s come in, wanted to be dominant on the ball, wanting to get the ball in every position on the pitch. That’s exactly what we want in games. No matter what game you’re playing – if it’s a derby – I know that he’ll come on and want the ball.

“I see potential in a lot of the young lads coming up to train with us, so it’s amazing for them to come in and be in and around it. It’s really exciting going forward into this season, next year and moving on. It’s a great many years to come that I think will be very successful.”

Fabrizio Romano confirms Amad will return to full Man United training next week

Manchester United forward Amad is set to return to full training next week, according to the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

Amad sustained an ankle injury during training earlier this year in February, ahead of United’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

The expectation was that the Ivorian would be ruled out for the rest of the season as he recovered from the issue.

However, in April, United head coach Ruben Amorim issued an extremely positive fitness condition on the player, indicating he was doing well and could be back for the final games of the campaign.

Two weeks ago, United posted images of Amad working hard in the gym at Carrington, stepping up his recovery ahead of a sensational return.

A few days later, the 22-year-old confirmed he was back training on the grass.

Now, Romano has revealed that Amad is poised to be back in full training with the rest of his teammates next week.

The Italian journalist wrote on X, “EXCLUSIVE: Amad Diallo, set to be back in training with Manchester United squad already next week!”

“Despite initial expectations for season to be over after injury, he’s recovered in record-time…”

“…and so Amad will be available for training from next week.”

This information will comes as incredibly good news not only to Amorim and the team, but also to the fans.

Amad’s absence has been deeply felt, as he was arguably United’s most consistent and in-form player before his injury. His return couldn’t have come at a better time, with United pushing for Europa League glory – not just to secure silverware, but also to claim a spot in next season’s Champions League.

United go away to Estadio de San Mamés on May 1 for the first leg of their semi-final tie with Athletic Club. It’s unlikely Amad will be fully fit for this meeting but he could be available for selection for the return leg at Old Trafford seven days later.

“He has the attributes Ruben Amorim wants”: Fabrizio Romano says United desperate to land midfield dynamo

Manchester United need midfield reinforcements given the possible departures of both Christian Eriksen and Casemiro once the summer window opens.

The Dane’s contract is up at the end of the season and the Red Devils have not offered him an extension as he no longer possesses the legs to operate in the big games.

As for the Brazilian, he has been reborn in recent weeks under Ruben Amorim, but his humongous wages mean INEOS remain keen to offload him.

With Kobbie Mainoo also yet to agree a new contract, it makes sense for the Red Devils to try and recruit an elite midfield presence to compensate for the loss in personnel.

Ederson top of United’s wishlist

The Peoples Person had relayed that United scouts have been watching Atalanta midfielder Ederson and the club had even got in touch with his representatives.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has revealed to Givemesport the Brazilian is at the top of the club’s wishlist with Amorim demanding INEOS to sign him during recent transfer meetings.

Given the significant outlay required to land Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap or possibly Victor Osimhen, Champions League qualification could be key to landing the 25-year-old.

“Sources guarantee to GIVEMESPORT that one of the names discussed again in one of the meetings between Man United directors and the Portuguese coach was the Brazilian midfielder Ederson.

CL qualification could be key

“He has the attributes Ruben Amorim wants. Man United already made contact a few months ago with the player’s camp to show their interest, along with more Premier League clubs, with the race considered absolutely open.

“The understanding is that the contract in terms of salary would not be an issue for Ederson; but Champions League football can play an important role in this story as there are several clubs keen on the Brazilian.”

Ederson has five goals and two assists this season and can operate both as a defensive midfielder and as a No 8. Romano also revealed that he will cost way more than €45 million.

Whether INEOS can muster up the required funds remains to be seen. The likes of Adam Wharton and Bruno Guimaraes are also being looked at while a couple of Championship starlets are also on the club’s radar.

“Highly possible”: David Ornstein provides huge update on future of £70m United star

There is still a very good chance that Alejandro Garnacho leaves Manchester United this summer, according to the reliable David Ornstein.

Garnacho has made 51 appearances for United this season, scoring 10 goals and providing an additional nine assists in that period. However, speculation over his future remains rife. His performances haven’t been very convincing, with his decision-making in the final third especially coming into question.

In January, United entertained offers for him amidst interest from Napoli and Chelsea.

Napoli are believed to have made an offer to sign him, but the bid fell short of United’s expectations, leading the club to decide to retain him. It is understood that Napoli and Chelsea’s interest remains intact as the summer transfer window approaches.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Bayer Leverkusen and Atletico Madrid are also eyeing Garnacho. United value the forward at £70m. His sale is especially appealing because as a homegrown player, it would be recorded as “pure profit” on the club’s books.

More recently, it was claimed that Garnacho could seek to exit Old Trafford if a deal for Matheus Cunha goes through. Cunha’s arrival could push him down the pecking order, limiting his minutes – something Garnacho is not too keen on at this stage of his career.

In this week’s Ask Orstein Q&A, The Athletic journalist addressed the future of a number of United players including Garnacho.

Asked if the Argentine is still linked with an Old Trafford departure, Ornstein answered, “Yes, we understand this to be highly possible — if proposals are deemed suitable by Manchester United and Garnacho himself.”

“As we know, exits for the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund are also plausible, while the salaries of Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof will leave the wage bill.”

One player who is unlikely to be sold this summer is Kobbie Mainoo. United have been locked in contract talks with the player but an agreement has yet to be found.

Ornstein said about Mainoo, “There’s a growing sense that Kobbie Mainoo will stay, although there is a contract situation with him that needs to be addressed.”

Garnacho’s terms expire in 2028 while Mainoo’s deal runs out in 2027, although there is an option to extend his stay for 12 more months.

Man Utd star ‘done’ at Old Trafford with no ‘future’ after two Red Devils stars provided ‘major obstacles’

A pundit reckons Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund is “done” at Old Trafford and he explained how he thinks his exit will “start”.

Hojlund has been heavily criticised for his poor performances this season as his form has fallen off a cliff after his debut campaign.

Man Utd invested around £64m plus add-ons to sign Hojlund from Serie A outfit Atalanta during the 2023 summer transfer window and he scored 16 goals in all competitions during the 2023/24 season.

It was hoped that the forward would kick on this season, but he has gone backwards as his confidence has evaporated over the course of this season.

It’s currently difficult to see a route back to prominence for Hojlund at Man Utd and former Red Devils star Paul Parker reckons he’s “done at the club”.

“I don’t believe Rasmus Hojlund has a future at Manchester United. I think he’s done at the club. It might start as a loan move, but I find it hard to see him returning,” Parker told SpilXperten.

READ: Liam Delap is a slightly unhinged madman; Man Utd would be lucky to have him

“If I had to sum up Højlund’s time at Manchester United, the headline would be that it’s been a disappointing stint for him.

“His first season was somewhat acceptable if you look at the number of goals across all competitions, but he never got into a good, consistent rhythm, and this season has been well below par – for both him and the club.

“I’m sure he’s disappointed himself, but that doesn’t mean he can’t go on to have a great career. It probably just won’t be at Manchester United – at least not right now.”

Parker has also explained why he thinks it’s “unfair” to make Hojlund “the scapegoat” with two teammates providing “major obstacles”.

“I think it would be unfair to make him the scapegoat, because it’s the whole team around Hojlund that has failed,” Parker added.

“It’s really hard to perform well as a striker when the team isn’t functioning. It might be easier as a goalkeeper or centre-back, but as a forward, you depend on the players behind you creating enough chances to score a decent number of goals.

“So his – so far – unsuccessful spell is largely due to his teammates, who have let him down. It involves many players, but to name just a couple, Garnacho and Rashford have especially been major obstacles for Hojlund.

“He certainly doesn’t owe them a thank-you speech if he leaves the club, because they bear a large share of the responsibility for how things have gone.

“In addition, it’s obviously clear that the price tag has been a major pressure on him – but that’s football today. Clubs overpay, and the players suffer the consequences.

“Even though it’s become normal in football, I still feel sorry for him, as I’ve said before. He’s definitely a player and a person I hope finds great success, no matter which club he ends up at next season.”

United planning surprise swoop for USMNT midfield wrecking ball, sensational swap deal on the cards – report

Manchester United are reportedly considering a swoop for Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso ahead of the summer transfer window.

United are bracing for a busy window, with a number of positions in need of urgent strengthening. Christian Eriksen is expected to leave upon the expiry of his contract in June while there is also uncertainty over the future of Casemiro despite his resurgence in the past few games.

Some of the midfielders mentioned to be on United’s radar include Ederson (Atalanta), Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig), Jobe Bellingham (Sunderland) and Chris Rigg (Sunderland), just to mention a few names.

Now, Sam Cohen, a relatively reliable source on United news, claims that Cardoso is another player who is of interest to the Red Devils.

Cohen wrote on X, “Manchester United have in recent weeks been scouting Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso.”

“The 23-year-old has featured in 24 matches this season, registering 3 goals and 1 assist from midfield.”

“Real Betis currently have Antony on loan from United, and while no formal approach has been made yet, it remains to be seen whether any potential interest in Cardoso could pave the way for a swap deal involving the Brazilian winger.”

Cohen notes that Wolves attempted to tempt Betis with a £20m offer for Cardoso in January but the Spanish outfit rebuffed their offer as they didn’t want to sell.

Wolves put together a formula of around 20m to Real Betis to try strike a deal for Johnny Cardoso In the January window, but Real Betis told the English club they didn’t want to sell.

— Sam C (@SamC_reports) April 24, 2025

Tottenham Hotspur are another Premier League team that have been mentioned to be keen on landing the USMNT star.

It’s easy to see why teams retain an admiration for Cardoso. He is a hardworking and intelligent midfielder who reads the game very well. He primarily plays in the defensive midfielder role but can also be deployed to great effect in a slightly advanced position.

He is a physically dominant and boasts a brilliant long passing range. Cardoso is incredibly smooth on the ball, consistently finding his teammates with effortless precision.

At 23, he also has a lot of time and room for improvement, which adds to his appeal.

United plotting to stun Europe by triggering the release clause for Champions League top scorer – Sky

What has really let Ruben Amorim down since he took over the reigns at Manchester United is the lack of goals with his attacking stars continuing to misfire.

Rasmus Hojlund has been the biggest culprit with the Dane managing a meagre three Premier League goals all season and the head coach has had enough and wants him gone in the summer.

As far as replacements are concerned, a couple of swap deal options could be on the cards including Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic and Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman.

Recent reports have suggested that the Red Devils want neither and are focussed on trying to land Liam Delap of Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton wanderers forward Matheus Cunha.

Striker hunt

The club also have their eyes on Victor Osimhen, if they can afford him, while Europa League victory could also open up the possibility of landing Serhou Guirassy of Borussia Dortmund.

The Guinean has been on fire for the Bundesliga giants, netting 29 goals and registering eight assists in only 37 starts across competitions.

🚨Only a few European clubs can trigger Serhou Guirassy’s release clause after the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

In fact, he has a goal involvement roughly every 93 minutes and is the top-scorer of this Champions League with an impressive 13 goals in 14 games, including a hat-trick against Barcelona.

Dortmund are desperate to keep a hold of him and make him the centre-piece of their rebuild but the 29-year-old has a release clause in the region of €70 million which can be triggered by select European giants, which includes United.

Guirassy on the club’s radar

As per Sky reporter Patrick Berger, seven teams including five from England can trigger the ex-VfB Stuttgart striker’s release clause after the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

“Only a few European clubs can trigger Serhou Guirassy’s release clause after the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

“According to our information those clubs are: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal,” the journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Guirassy has no intention of departing and is grateful for Dortmund’s trust in him given his injury problems. But the ball is not in his or Dortmund’s court.

Should any team offer the money needed, and pay the striker’s wages, he could be off. Whether the 20-time English league champions do so remains to be seen. He does not fit INEOS’ age profile but stranger things have happened.
