Three WSL games selected for broadcast

Tuesday 07 October 2025 12:15

Manchester United Women’s Barclays WSL games against Brighton and Hove Albion, Aston Villa and Manchester City have all been selected for TV broadcast.

Changes to our clash with Brighton had already been made public but we can now also confirm our encounter on November 2 with the Seagulls will be shown live on Sky Sports.

The midday kick-off is our first outing of the month and follows on from the UEFA Women’s Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid two weeks prior.

Next up will be our home game against Aston Villa, which will now take place at the Progress With Unity Stadium. This is also pencilled in for a midday start, as opposed to its original scheduled time of 12:30 GMT.

That too will be shown on Sky Sports’ respective channels and Marc Skinner’s side hold an impressive record against the Villans over recent years.

The final switch involvees our game against crosstown rivals Manchester City, with the fixture now taking place on Saturday 15 November, instead of the following day.

Kick-off will be 13:30 GMT at the Etihad Stadium and the game will be shown on BBC1.

United Women, of course, famously beat City 4-2 in last season’s WSL fixture at the Etihad, with Ella Toone scoring a brilliant hat-trick.

“I know what he went through”: Eriksen in full agreement with Denmark coach over Hojlund’s incredible turnaround

Former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen and Denmark national team boss Brian Riemer have shared their thoughts on Rasmus Hojlund’s stunning resurgence at Napoli.

Hojlund impressing at Napoli

Having endured a difficult spell at United since joining the club in 2023, Hojlund sealed a deadline-day loan move to Napoli during the summer transfer window.

Hojlund is believed to have been hesitant to leave United and wanted to fight for his place, despite the club signing three attackers in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

However, once the competitive 2025/26 season started, Ruben Amorim froze Hojlund out of the team and it became crystal clear that the former Atalanta man was no longer wanted at Old Trafford. Hojlund reluctantly agreed to join Antonio Conte’s side.

It has been an excellent start for Hojlund, who has scored four goals in his first six appearances for the club in all competitions.

He netted two goals for Napoli in their 2-1 win over Sporting CP at the start of the month before following that up by bagging the winning goal as they came from behind to sink Genoa on Sunday.

Hojlund recently revealed that his decision to leave United was motivated by three factors.

Now, Riemer and Eriksen have expressed their delight with the 22-year-old’s uptick in fortunes and what it could potentially mean for the national team.

Riemer and Eriksen share thoughts on Hojlund

Riemer told Tipsbladet, “Having adapted so quickly and having won matches twice in a row leading up to this national team meeting is an adventure that could hardly have been written better for Rasmus.”

“I am very happy to get a striker into top form. I couldn’t wish for more as Danish national coach.”

“When you come out on the back of a less successful stay, you hope that things will go well.”

He added, “Even though he has Kevin De Bruyne by his side, it is not that easy to meet those expectations. Or to get that start when you come to Napoli, who are Italian champions with sky-high expectations.”

Eriksen, who regularly lined up alongside Hojlund at United, remarked, “I’m incredibly happy for ‘Ralles’. I know what he went through at United, good and bad.”

“But he’s always been strong mentally. He works incredibly hard and gives it his all, so it’s just great that he’s now scoring goals.”

Napoli are understood to be very happy with Hojlund’s start and are already looking to make his stay in Naples a permanent one.

United face fresh competition for under-the-radar 21-yo midfield talent Ineos regard as bargain buy – report

Manchester United are lined up for a midfield rebuild next year.

Ruben Amorim’s midfield is just not where it needs to be.

While it has looked decent at times, like against Sunderland, in games such as the 1-1 draw with Fulham, it has been overpowered and run through.

Next year, INEOS must recruit dynamic midfielders capable of injecting the athleticism and technical brilliance Amorim craves for his engine room.

Yarmolyuk

The rumour mill has already linked some of these midfielders.

One of them is Brentford’s 21-year-old Yehor Yarmolyuk.

Yarmolyuk is a fine midfielder who has now been “set free”, fully unleashed at Brentford following Christian Norgaard’s switch to Arsenal.

Watching Yarmolyuk now, it is easy to spot a tireless midfielder who thrives in duels and defensive work, yet still contributes in possession.

He reads the game well, presses aggressively, and carries the ball with purpose.

He is the kind of all-action profile Brentford love to develop.

At £30 million, a bargain compared to the fees being quoted for other midfield targets, United could make their move.

But as The Peoples Person relayed, that tempting price tag has also drawn interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

And not just Spurs, what was shaping up to be a United-Spurs transfer race may soon become a three-horse contest.

Chelsea enter the frame

Dean Jones, via Teamtalk, reports:

“We can now reveal that Chelsea are the latest team to make checks on Yarmolyuk.

“Man Utd and Tottenham are curious over whether he could add new depth and quality to their squads, and it is understood Chelsea are now also starting to take notice.”

Jones also outlines Brentford’s stance on a potential exit:

“Brentford do not want to sell Yarmolyuk in the January transfer window.

“Given Yarmolyuk’s importance in the team, the London club’s firm stance is that he will stay until next summer.”

Waiting until next summer will not sit well with United fans.

Many would prefer this deal to be attacked and sealed the moment the window swings open.

Chelsea, Spurs or United, an easy decision

With the Blues and Lilywhites already stacked in midfield and United’s midfield easier to break into, the decision on where next for Yarmolyuk should be straightforward.

That said, United need a complete midfield rebuild. Yarmolyuk alone will not solve it, but he could be a step in the right direction as INEOS look to assemble Amorim’s dream midfield.

United’s CL hero tells Bryan Mbeumo the one area he must work on to become truly unstoppable

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has outlined one area for Bryan Mbeumo to work on if he is to reach the next level at the club.

Mbeumo enjoying promising start to life at United

Mbeumo joined United in the summer from Brentford after a fantastic 2024/25 season in which he notched a career-high 20 Premier League goals.

There was high demand for the forward but he made it clear he was only interested in joining United. He travelled with the team for pre-season and has started every top-flight game so far, notching one goal in that period. He also found the back of the net in the humiliating Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town.

Mbeumo has brought renewed energy to United’s right flank, impressing with his strength, movement, and growing chemistry with Amad.

He registered an assist for Mason Mount’s opening goal during Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Sunderland. Mbeumo had a glorious opportunity to get on the scoresheet but failed to convert, dragging his effort well wide.

Speaking to MUTV, Brown pinpointed Mbeumo’s finishing as something the Cameroonian must improve.

Brown gives verdict on Mbeumo

Brown said [as quoted by Metro], “Listen, I think you’re going to see him in that position quite a lot this season and he knows he needs to do better there. You see him get on that left foot, with that much space, and he normally just curls that one in the bottom or top corner. But he was slightly off balance and it wasn’t quite meant to be.”

“I still don’t think he’s at his best and he caused a lot of problems today without maybe the end product, but still the assist was still there.”

“The end product is a little bit off but, again, he’s a brilliant signing for us and exactly what we needed.”

On United’s display against the Black Cats, Brown remarked, “I don’t think you could have asked for much more. When you go 2-0 up at half-time, you’re probably thinking that you’re going to get a couple more. But let’s be honest, there have been times when we’ve gone a couple up and then we’ve stepped off the gas in the second half.”

“I thought we were still pretty good in the second half but without that killer instinct. But with the pressure the lads have been under this week and the new goalkeeper coming in, just before going into an international break, it was a good performance.”

The 2008 Champions League winner hailed the United backline and debutant Senne Lammens for registering a first clean sheet of the campaign.

The Red Devils are back in action on Sunday, October 19, when they take on Liverpool at Anfield.

Celin: I’m very lucky to be a Red

Valerenga will always be part of Celin Bizet Donnum’s past, but the Manchester United Women forward is hoping for three points on Wednesday to get the Reds’ UEFA Champions League campaign off to the perfect start.

The Norwegian side provide the opposition at the Progress With Unity Stadium (20:00 BST kick-off), with excitement building ahead of the historic fixture.

Bizet Donnum joined Valerenga in 2017, and completed a domestic Double with them three years later, before spells with Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur, in advance of her switch to United in 2024.

In a wide-ranging interview with the matchday programme for the game, Celin said of her former side: “It’s a city club – loud fans, a lot of duels, a lot of power! Their style, when I was there, was good on the ball, technical players, creating things, and being proactive towards the goal.”

When growing up in Scandinavia, our nimble forward was often pictured wearing a United shirt and admits she is loving the fact that she now represents Marc Skinner’s side, and has the chance to do so on the continental stage.

“Well, at that point I didn’t know there was a women’s team,” she said of the pic. “So I wanted to play on the men’s team [laughs] – that didn’t happen, obviously!

“But I think sometimes you take for granted where you are and, at that point, I never thought I was going to go abroad and play football at Manchester United.

“You buy that shirt as a kid and just think it’s a shirt you have in your drawer, but now it’s massive [to play here]. I was eight at that point or something, and now I’m here now, it’s the biggest thing. So many girls back in Norway want to play at this club and I’m here. I’m very lucky.”

Since getting married to fellow footballer, and now husband, Aron Donnum, earlier this year, the 23-year-old has used the name ‘Bizet Donnum’ on the back of her jersey.

The Norway men’s international is currently with Toulouse in France but emerged on the scene with Valerenga, at the same time his wife was with the club.

“I’m carrying that name with pride,” she explained to us. “It’s a big name in Norway, so carrying that name on the shirt, Donnum, is a big thing from a Valerenga
perspective and in Norway.

“I think more people know that name than my [other] name!”

Want to read the full interview? Celin’s chat with Mikey Partington will be available in the official programme on Wednesday night and is priced at just £3.

National team manager says dropping outstanding United ace “pains” him after 26-yo’s superb start to the season

Matthijs de Ligt has been a rock at the back for Manchester United this season. The Dutchman has successfully ousted Harry Maguire from the central centre-back position in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

De Ligt has played every minute of every game for the Red Devils in the Premier League this season, and also featured from the bench in the defeat to Grimsby Town in the EFL Cup.

Apart from the defeat against Brentford, where the entire team were poor, the player hasn’t put a foot wrong this season.

United reportedly paid Bayern Munich €45m for De Ligt last summer as they attempted to address their defensive troubles and the 26 year old has gone from strength to strength so far.

De Ligt has come into his own this year

After the mixed 2024/25 campaign, De Ligt has come into his own this season. The Dutchman has become the leader that United were craving for at the back, and has taken to Amorim’s tactics pretty well.

He was outstanding against Chelsea in a right centre-back role, completing 86% of his passes, registering four clearances and three ground duels.

De Ligt took on added responsibility when the Red Devils lost their man advantage in the game at the Theatre of Dreams, and ultimately helped his team secure all three points.

He was key in United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland as well. Unfortunately, his efforts were not enough to secure him a place in the Netherlands’ squad for the upcoming international games.

A painful decision for Koeman

When Oranje boss Ronald Koeman announced his squad for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Finland, one of the surprising omissions was De Ligt. The Dutch defender has appeared 51 times for his national team to date.

Speaking to the press, the former Barcelona manager acknowledged that dropping the player was a tough decision.

“That sometimes gives me pain in my head, from the central defenders that I sometimes have to drop,” said Koeman.

“That’s the least fun part of my job. I have a lot of contact with Matthijs, he is also a boy who asks for feedback, what he has to do to be there.”

United fans, however, won’t be too disappointed. De Ligt’s absence from the international squad means that the player is likely to be well rested for the crunch game against Liverpool at Anfield on 19 October.

Canon Medical Systems and Manchester United Football Club are pleased to announce a three-year extension of their successful partnership, continuing more than a decade-long collaboration that places advanced diagnostic imaging at the core of elite sports medicine.

The new agreement further strengthens Canon Medical’s role in supporting the health and performance of Manchester United’s men’s, women’s, and Academy players.

Since 2013, Canon Medical has been a key part of daily medical operations at the Club’s Carrington Training Complex, providing cardiac, musculoskeletal (MSK), and general sports medicine imaging.

The extended partnership will see potential upgrades to the existing range of MRI, ultrasound, and healthcare IT systems, as well as the integration of new research-led initiatives.

Tomoaki Fukuhira, Senior Vice President & Chief Finance Officer at Canon Medical Systems Corporation – René Degros, Vice President of Canon Medical Systems Europe – Omar Berrada, Chief Executive Officer at Manchester United – Mark Hitchman, Managing Director of Canon Medical Systems UK

Research is a key pillar of the renewed agreement, with new research projects proposed across a range of focus areas, including musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging, injury detection and monitoring, and sex-based differences in injury patterns.

The knowledge gained from scanning elite athletes and conducting these studies will not only benefit Manchester United players but will also be applied to real-world clinical practice: helping healthcare professionals improve diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes for patients across the wider population.

René Degros, Vice President of Canon Medical Systems Europe, commented: “This extension of our partnership with Manchester United reflects more than a decade of close collaboration and shared commitment to innovation in sports medicine. From cardiac screening to injury rehabilitation, our imaging systems continue to play a vital role in supporting player health and performance. Man United fans make their feelings abundantly clear on who has been the Player of the Season so far

Manchester United have had a mixed start to the new season but after victory over Sunderland at the weekend, they find themselves only three points off the top five.

After the international break, they have a massive tie against Liverpool at Anfield that might have a huge say on the team’s fortunes this season.

The Red Devils had a busy summer where they brought in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Senne Lammens to bolster their squad.

The Peoples Person has held a poll asking fans to vote on who has been their Player of the Season to date and there is a clear response.

Bryan Mbeumo leads the way

46% of supporters who voted in the poll decided that new signing Mbeumo has been the standout player so far this season.

The Cameroon scored two goals in August against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup and Burnley in the Premier League.

He also put in impressive displays against Manchester City and Chelsea after the international break in September.

Mbeumo also grabbed an assist at the weekend, setting up Mason Mount in the 2-0 victory over Sunderland.

Matthijs de Ligt

The Dutch defender has had an incredibly impressive beginning to the season and 32% of fans think he has been the club’s best player so far.

He began the new campaign with a powerful display to shut down Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres and was also well on top against Chelsea at Old Trafford.

The centre back has been a model of consistency and a leader of the backline this season.

De Ligt is without doubt Ruben Amorim’s first name on his centre back list at the moment.

Bruno Fernandes

11% of pollsters voted for Bruno Fernandes as the club’s player of the season to date.

For his own incredibly high standards, he has had a mixed time of it so far. He scored a late winner versus Burnley and also a crucial goal against Chelsea.

Nonetheless, he also missed two vital penalties against Fulham and Brentford that could have dramatically swayed the outcome of both games.

Leny Yoro

7% of fans believe that the young Frenchman has been the club’s top performer thus far.

Yoro has continued to impress with his physicality, speed and intelligent use of the ball.

He was left out of the team a couple of times in September but regained his place in the starting line up last time out against Sunderland.

4% of readers believe that another player not on the list deserves the recognition.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.

“Shouldn’t be playing for this club”: Neville launches a tirade against Amorim despite Sunderland victory

Manchester United secured a much-needed 2-0 victory at the weekend against Sunderland at Old Trafford.

Brief respite

The victory took Ruben Amorim’s side into the top half of the table and they are now three points off of fifth place.

Speaking before the match versus The Black Cats, Amorim claimed that some of his players were listening to pundits’ criticism rather than his own instruction.

When defending his 3-4-3 system in the pre-match press conference he stated that, “my players, I guarantee you, they are listening to all the opinions and they are putting that inside because we are not winning games. They have to believe in me. So my biggest problem is that my players believe in you guys when you say the problem of our team is the system.”

Gary Neville criticism

The former United defender was hardly sympathetic to Amorim after the victory over Sunderland and criticised the comments while speaking on Sky Sports.

Neville responded to Amorim’s words by asserting, “if pundits are getting into your head then you shouldn’t be playing for the club.”

The former England international recalled his own experiences as a young player breaking through by claiming, “do people not remember Alan Hanson criticising us when we broke in as young kids saying that you can’t win anything with kids. That was the greatest centre-back of all time at that moment talking about us as if we were, you know, inferior and nowhere near good enough.”

Neville also stated that the failings of the players are very much on them and they need to have broad enough shoulders to handle the criticism.

He went on, “did they not think that we got criticised during our football careers. I’m sorry you’re playing for Manchester United – it comes with the territory, you’ve got to step up.”

Neville explained, “they’ve been hopeless in the system. If it’s not the system, then the players are a problem, the manager is a problem, the whole thing’s a problem if you’re losing football matches to the level that they’ve been doing.”

The former defender also asserted that there seemed to be a lack of accountability in the United dressing room in comparison with his days as a player. He claimed that players apologised to each other after a defeat and he is unsure if that goes on in the current side.

He concluded, “I think they just need to concentrate on doing their jobs and doing it well and winning football matches. The only thing that’s going to shut anybody up is winning football matches and they’ve not won anywhere near enough.”
