Manchester United’s Amad Diallo stole the show as he played a crucial role in his side finally kickstarting their Europa League campaign with a win.

The Ivorian was a bright spark in the first half and then the decisive factor in the second, scoring two very different but equally important goals.

The first was a wonderful looping header while the second highlighted everything he did well on the night.

He won the ball back from the PAOK left back with excellent pressing, showed strength to hold off the defender and then curled a delicious finish into the bottom corner to give his side some breathing space.

After the game, interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy heaped praise on him, claiming “he’s a great character, a hard worker, he shows it in every training session.”

With the Ivory Coast international failing to start in the last month, he put in a timely reminder as to why he is so adored by the Old Trafford crowd.

Statman Dave highlighted that “Amad has started just 7 games for Manchester United this season. In those 7 games, he has scored 3 and registered an assist. One hundred percent of his goal involvements this term have come as a starter.”

This demonstrates that he is at his most dangerous when given the chance to shine over a longer period of time and he will hope he has earned another shot at 90 minutes in Van Nistelrooy’s last game in charge versus Leicester City.

In addition, Amad’s production soars when he is given the chance to play for the majority of the match.

On the three occasions he has played over 90 minutes, against Brighton and Hove Albion, Southampton and PAOK, he has provided three goals and an assist.

Amad has played over 80 minutes on three occasions this season:

It means he now has three goals and one assist in 15 matches this season in all competitions.

Diallo will be hoping that incoming coach Ruben Amorim will be paying close attention from afar and reward him with greater chances that were sorely lacking under the previous coach, Erik ten Hag.

Dressing room sources reveal United players’ strong reaction to Amorim’s appointment – report

      dressing-room-sources-reveal-united-players’-strong-reaction-to-amorim’s-appointment-–-report

Manchester United’s squad are “excited” about the prospect of working under Ruben Amorim and are “optimistic of success” in the future.

The 39-year-old Sporting Lisbon manager was confirmed as the Red Devils’ new head coach following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag last week, with United’s dismal start to the season proving fatal for the Dutchman.

There was widespread positivity amongst the Old Trafford faithful at the appointment given Amorim’s excellent track record in Portugal.

However, Sporting’s emphatic victory over local rivals Manchester City on Tuesday in the Champions League, emerging as 4-1 winners, has sent this excitement into overdrive.

And now it’s been revealed these feelings are shared in the United dressing room.

The Manchester Evening News reveals the players are “excited about the imminent arrival” of Amorim with dressing room sources contending United’s squad are “impressed” by his work in Lisbon.

These sources describe the players as “optimistic of having a successful season” – a far cry from the feelings around the club just a few weeks ago under Ten Hag.

In the Dutchman’s place, Ruud van Nistelrooy has taken over as interim manager. The former striker is a firm fan favourite and Old Trafford has not been shy in making its feelings known over Van Nistelrooy while he’s been stationed on the touchline in the last three matches.

And, again, this appears to be a sentiment shared by the United dressing room.

Manchester Evening News’ report reveals the players have also been “impressed” by Van Nistelrooy with a well-placed source stating he has been “excellent” in this period of uncertainty for the squad.

The “majority” of the United dressing room are described as having “respected” Ten Hag but “felt like it was in everyone’s best interest for a change.” Amorim, with his uncompromising approach and radical three-at-the-back system, will certainly provide this ‘change’.

It just remains to be seen whether the “excellent” Van Nistelrooy will be a part of the Portuguese coach’s staff, given the impression he’s made in the United dressing room, as well as the special place he holds in fans’ hearts.

Manchester United might not ‘withdraw their contract offer’ to Ruben Amorim after all

        manchester-united-might-not-‘withdraw-their-contract-offer’-to-ruben-amorim-after-all

‘Much more of this and Manchester United could withdraw their contract offer and give the job to Ruud van Nistelrooy instead.’ But ‘much more of this’ did not come. Obviously.

        Ru the day
Spare a thought for poor Chris Wheeler, who set his stall out on Ruud van Nistelrooy as Manchester United manager ludicrously quickly and has since been hoist by the petard of a) Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Manchester United playing against someone other than a massively rotated Leicester side at home in a cup game and b) the Daily Mail selfishly sending him to watch said games.

After that 5-2 thrashing of Leicester on October 30, he wrote: ‘Somewhere in Portugal, Ruben Amorim would have been following events at Old Trafford and praying Sporting Lisbon don’t delay him from becoming Manchester United manager a moment longer.’

Nine days, two inevitably rather less inspiring displays and more pertinently a rousing victory for their incoming manager later and ‘it was very different to the scenes that saw United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim swept out of the Estadio Jose Alvalade on a wave of emotion on Tuesday night after a barnstorming win over Manchester City in his penultimate game as Sporting Lisbon boss.’

Weird that an unconvincing 2-0 home win over PAOK did not generate much fanfare. Not sure Amorim particularly minded that ‘delay’ either. Maybe he really was ‘praying’ to be in charge of this game rather than a win over Manchester City.

‘This was another stodgy performance by United who started with £400million-worth of players against a PAOK team that only qualified for this stage of the competition after winning a play-off against Shamrock Rovers,’ Wheeler says now, stressing a need to not ‘get too carried away’.

It is an important reminder from a man whose reaction to Danny Ward conceding five goals barely a week ago was: ‘Much more of this and United could withdraw their contract offer and give the job to Ruud van Nistelrooy instead.’

Amorim will suddenly now ‘start his new job on Monday with the bar set low thanks to games like this one as United laboured to victory’. It’s almost as if beating Leicester 5-2 at home in a cup game meant very little at all.

After that victory, Wheeler suggested ‘Erik ten Hag will have been screaming at his TV and wondering just where some of these United players have been hiding all season’ after ‘a performance bursting with freedom and enterprise and enjoyment, the like we rarely saw under Ten Hag’.

After drawing with Chelsea and struggling to beat the second-best team in Greece, suddenly ‘very little has changed’ under Van Nistelrooy and ‘there were too many similarities with the Europa League draws against FC Twente, Porto and Fenerbahce to think a corner has been turned.’

Again, what a strange and completely unforeseeable outcome. Maybe Manchester United should appoint Amorim after all.

        Ruud awakening
‘It was just the kind of performance Van Nistelrooy would have been hoping for to at least press his claims for staying on under the new regime if not to make United change their minds over Amorim altogether’ – Wheeler, October 30.

‘Van Nistelrooy will take charge of Sunday’s game at home to Leicester City and then wait to see it he has a place in the new set-up. The indications are that he probably won’t’ – Wheeler, November 8

        Slot it home
It might surprise Arne Slot that he ‘has only done the easy part at Liverpool’, having been what many considered an underwhelming appointment to the unforgiving role of replacing Jurgen Klopp, only to win 14 of his first 16 games to lead the Reds to the top of the Premier League and Champions League tables alongside a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

It feels like some of that might have been at least slightly difficult but The Sun website headline writers obviously know better.

The next question is whether Andy Dillon has been stitched up. The answer is no, not really.

‘Arne Slot has done pretty well at Liverpool, with one defeat in his first 16 games.’

Did that line not stick out as a bit daft when you read it through?

Apparently not, because the ultimately doomed Unai Emery once went on an 11-game winning run at Arsenal. The list of opponents he beat? West Ham, Cardiff, Newcastle, Vorskla Poltava, Everton, Brentford (Championship side in the League Cup), Watford, Qarabag, Fulham, Leicester and Sporting (Europa).

Slot obviously had it ‘easy’ with Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Milan and Leverkusen in his opening months.

‘Arsenal missed out on Champions League qualification in [Emery’s] first season by a solitary point – to Tottenham.

‘They reached the Europa League final but lost to Chelsea.’

Translation: they made a massive cock-up of the run-in by winning two and losing four of their final seven Premier League games, before being thrashed 4-1 in the Europa final by Chelsea.

‘By the end of the first season, some Arsenal players were laughing behind Emery’s back at his poor grasp of English.

‘The fans were confused about the style of play.

‘Home games were played out amid baffled silence, the way was lost and the glue between manager and club simply did not set hard.’

Not one single part of that critique of Emery’s Arsenal in 2019 is applicable to Slot and Liverpool five years later, aside from how they both succeeded legendary managers.

But West Ham fan Dillon continues unabated through a potted history of managers who have previously managed some games of football in an attempt to show Slot is not all that.

‘Bruce Rioch lost only three of his first 16 games,’ is first up. And while that is true it does include a two-legged League Cup tie against Third Division relegation-battlers Hartlepool. Maths fans might also have spotted that those three defeats are slightly more than Slot’s one in the same timeframe.

‘David Moyes lost only three of his first 16 Manchester United games,’ it says here. It’s good to consolidate the knowledge that three is more than one, with the additional nugget of the nine wins Moyes oversaw also being five fewer than Slot’s 14.

‘Avram Grant and Antonio Conte produced the goods when each took over from Jose Mourinho. Yet neither man really ‘got’ the club they were working for and paid the price,’ is a slightly more relevant argument because of the focus on vibes rather than results. Slot cannot possibly be criticised on the basis of the latter but replacing the popular Klopp does make the former tougher.

Yet that can only ever be purely hypothetical and again, there is literally nothing to suggest Slot will go the way of either fleeting manager at a club with a revolving door policy when it comes to head coaches.

‘Emery is enjoying a more fruitful time at Aston Villa with his second bite at the Prem cherry. Then again, he has replaced Steven Gerrard, who did not even get one full season.’

Because he was really bad and does not belong even in the vicinity of an already weird conversation about how Slot has apparently ‘only done the easy part at Liverpool’.

If ‘the easy part’ of management is winning games of association football, then he most certainly has.

        Get in Tuch
It has been public knowledge since his official unveiling on October 16 that Thomas Tuchel would not take over as England manager until January 1.

The reasons for that were explained at the time by FA CEO Mark Bullingham – “when we first spoke to him, we had our timescale, Thomas had his timescale and it just fitted really well” – and Tuchel himself:

“It was important for me to narrow it down into a project and not lose the focus, to start in another competition, the Nations League, then go into (World Cup) qualification and the tournament. I wanted to have a clean start and a bit of time to recharge fully, start in January, and start the first camp in March. We will have not a lot of time.”

There might also have been some obvious unspoken reasons, such as gardening leave contract clauses with Bayern Munich, a desire to have his staff in place or what would frankly be the most understandable motive ever of wanting to avoid a whole lot of poppy nonsense in his first days in charge. The Daily Mail might have a back page to fill after all.

But either way, the situation has been spelled out for weeks: Tuchel will not start as England manager in an official capacity until January. It feels like he might still be watching games and contemplating tactics in the meantime, just not with relatively meaningless matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland as his focus.

Was that ever going to stop minds being lost when interim manager Lee Carsley casually dropped a quick line about how he and Tuchel had only spoken briefly over text and not yet face to face? Of course not.

John Cross of the Daily Mirror writes that ‘most England fans would find it bizarre he has not found time to speak to him’. Mediawatch is struggling to conjure much beyond a lazy shoulder shrug but maybe he’s right.

‘Carsley goes back to being Under-21s boss after his spell as interim,’ Cross continues. ‘He will provide players for England’s future and could give insight into the team.’

He could also do that in January. It doesn’t feel like an extra two months of knowing what makes Jordan Pickford tick or having Jarell Quansah’s pathway laid out in front of him will help Tuchel inspire England to World Cup glory in summer 2026.

Except no, this is an outrage and the reaction should be as such. We know this because the Daily Mail says so.

‘ENGLAND FARCE’ screams their headline to a piece in which Sami Mokbel recounts the ‘startling revelation’ made by Carsley, as well as the ‘bizarre development’ that he did not know about Tuchel’s appointment when he took charge of a game against Greece two days later.

Is it really that strange not to keep the interim manager with a specific six-game remit who is otherwise in charge of the U21s in the loop?

If Tuchel promptly ignores Carsley and explains how he has painstakingly avoided watching any games involving England players when he actually starts his role as manager then we might have a FARCE on our hands. This barely qualifies as a vaguely interesting side note.

“Joint highest in history”: United star’s record-setting statistic prove his weight in gold for Ruben Amorim

          “joint-highest-in-history”:-united-star’s-record-setting-statistic-prove-his-weight-in-gold-for-ruben-amorim

Bruno Fernandes has not produced his most flowing season to date but has continued to add goals and assists in spite of his up and down form and with that, became the joint highest assist maker in Europa League history last night.

The Portuguese international has faced his fair share of criticism in this campaign and was especially under the microscope in early October after receiving two red cards on the bounce versus Tottenham Hotspur and FC Porto.

It took him to last week to get off the mark but he has risen to the occasion in the last month or so.

Statman Dave highlights that “Bruno Fernandes has been directly involved in 5 goals in his last 5 games across all competitions — scoring 3 and assisting 2.”

In fact, it was his peach of a cross that allowed Amad to peel away at the back post and loop the ball over the PAOK keeper.

Despite being far from his vintage best, including last night, Fernandes continues to produce for his team as he “now has 9 direct goal involvements across all competitions this season. The only Manchester United player with more is Alejandro Garnacho”, who is on 10.

He has also found home comforts as of late, after his nightmare appearance against Tottenham at the end of September.

He provided an assist versus Brentford, two goals versus Leicester, a penalty against Chelsea and the assist last night against PAOK.

With home matches to come against Leicester City in the league, FK Bodø/Glimt and Everton in the next few weeks, he will be eyeing up more opportunities to add to his statistics.

Bruno Fernandes’ last four matches at Old Trafford:

Most impressively of all, he has now become the joint leading assist maker in Europa League history alongside Bořek Dočkal with 16 assists. He will certainly aim to build a sizeable lead in this ranking over the course of the season, as his side will have serious ambitions to kick on and win the competition.

What’s more, “since his European debut for Sporting in September 2017, the Portugal international has recorded more assists in major European competition than any other player, 26 in total.”

While he may still be looking to get into third or fourth gear this season, the Portuguese magician continues to highlight why he is so revered around the red side of Manchester.

United set to offer sensational “triple-your-money” contract offer to rising superstar – report

            united-set-to-offer-sensational-“triple-your-money”-contract-offer-to-rising-superstar-–-report

Manchester United are reportedly set to reward Amad Diallo with a bumper new five-year contract worth “triple” his current deal.

The 22-year-old winger produced a brilliant performance in last night’s Europa League win over Greek side PAOK Salonika, scoring twice as United ran out 2-0 winners. It was far from a comfortable evening for the Red Devils, however.

Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy watched his side struggle in the first-half, describing the performance as “pretty poor…if I’m being nice” with the opposition often looking like the better team, in and out of possession.

There was a renewed energy as United re-entered the field following half-time, but it was ultimately Amad’s decisive ‘one-two combo’ which proved decisive in overcoming a resilient PAOK side.

The Ivorian international’s first was a brilliantly taken header from a Bruno Fernandes diagonal ball, looping over the goalkeeper to nestle in the far corner.

His second was perhaps even better, given the work rate he displayed, aggressively pressing the PAOK defence to win the ball back before bearing down on goal and curling the ball with his left foot in a style reminiscent of Arjen Robben, albeit with a helpful deflection en route.

Amad has seen his gametime limited in recent months with a sense that recently departed Erik ten Hag never warmed to the player, often dropping him following performances which other players were consistently excused for.

The 22-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, though the club reserves the right to extend this by twelve months, providing some security against a potential departure.

There is not thought to be any desire on Amad’s part to leave United, however, and it seems this is reciprocated by the club, who are set to offer the winger a lucrative contract extension.

Neil Custis (The Sun) reveals United will offer Amad a five-year deal worth three times his current salary. The 22-year-old’s current deal is thought to be worth around £30,000 a week, meaning this new offer would be worth £90,000-a-week.

Contract negotiations have been ongoing for some time between the player’s representatives and the club, but it now appears like United are willing to show their hand; and Amad’s comments in his post-match interview after last night’s win appear to show it’s reciprocal.

“I’m happy to be here. I’m happy to play for this club, and yeah, I want to stay here for a long, long, long time to make history with this club,” United’s match winner revealed.

Ruud van Nistelrooy is focused on getting positive results during his time as Man Utd interim manager and not on his long-term future at the club.

Van Nistelrooy is in temporary charge of the Red Devils following the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.

He was never considered for the job full-time, with the Man Utd hierarchy prioritising and landing Sporting’s Ruben Amorim.

Amorim will not officially join the club until after Sunday’s Premier League clash against Leicester, meaning Van Nistelrooy will manage four matches in total.

He oversaw the club’s first win in Europe in 380 days against Greek side PAOK on Thursday night.

Writing in the matchday programme for the Europa League clash, interim manager Van Nislerooy said: “There is a sense of excitement around the club as we prepare to welcome Ruben Amorim next week.

“Until then it will be my continued privilege to manage the team. In my two games so far I have felt a lot of love from the stands. I know how much energy this gives me and the players, so we need to keep this connection going.

“If we all keep pulling together and reaching for our highest levels in every game, we will move in the right direction – I am certain of that.”

After making it two wins from three as interim boss, Van Nistelrooy refused to be drawn into discussing his own future at Old Trafford.

“For me it was important to get results,” he added. “I can only be happy with the performance that the players put in.

“I enjoy it but Sunday is another one and I’m so focused on doing that so I’m not thinking of what is next.”

The former striker was high in praise of match-winner Amad Diallo, who scored both goals in the 2-0 win over PAOK.

“The second goal had everything in it that is Diallo,” Van Nistelrooy added. “He fought to win the ball off the defender, then pushed through to take the shot and had the quality to bend it around the goalkeeper.

“He is a great character and a hard worker. He shows that attitude in every training session. Every day in he comes to me and wants to do extra finishing, crossing, one v ones. He is asking how can I improve his shot, and his heading.

Meanwhile, Amad says he wants to stay and fight for his future at Man Utd under new head coach Amorim.

“I’m happy to be here, happy to play for this club and yes, I want to stay here for a long time and make history here,” the Ivorian said.

“It is important to score every time. This season I have been unlucky so I am happy to score two today. But the most important thing was to win.

“I like to celebrate with the fans and make people happy.

The 18-year-old Malian was a surprise capture from Guidars in the summer, as he starred in the 2023 Fifa U-17 World Cup with his nation finishing an impressive third overall.

Kone is not expected to take years to break into the first team however, as he is very highly rated around the corridors of Carrington and it was reported in the summer that he was expected to be fast tracked into the first team.

In the last couple of weeks he has also been seen in first team training with an official squad number, hinting that United fans may not have to wait long to see their exciting signing in action.

According to the club’s official website, Kone made his first substitute appearance last weekend against Sunderland and his first European appearance against FK Zalgiris on Wednesday.

United under 18s manager, Adam Lawrence, has credited Kone’s patience to get involved in match day squad’s as he adapts to a new culture and football world at such a young age.

“When you arrive at this club you just want to be playing football and obviously get on the pitch and put on the Man United shirt and show people what you can do.”

“He’s had to be patient. It’s right we’ve built him up slowly. He’s picking up a bit of English, we’re picking up a bit of French, so we’re trying to work it both ways!”

Whilst the Red Devils are clearly excited about the young talent, they are also acutely aware that they do not want to throw him into the spotlight too early and it will probably help Kone, that he is one of a number of young starlets who are aiming to get a chance in the first team squad before the season is out.

Academy products Ethan Wheatley, Harry Amass and Jayce John Fitzgerald were all given the opportunity to make the bench in last night’s 2-0 win over PAOK in the Europa League.

Fellow academy player Jack Fletcher, also made an appearance in the matchday squad against Chelsea last weekend and new United manager Ruben Amorim will certainly be keen to make use of United’s highly talented group of youngsters in the not so distant future.

United’s under 18s will take on Everton tomorrow and Kone will certainly hope he can possibly make his first start in a Red Devil’s shirt.

Viktor Gyokeres could flop at Manchester United like ten other 30+ goal strikers in the Premier League

                  viktor-gyokeres-could-flop-at-manchester-united-like-ten-other-30+-goal-strikers-in-the-premier-league

Viktor Gyokeres scored 43 goals for Sporting last season and is well on his way to another massive haul this term after 23 in his first 17 games.

That includes a hat-trick against arguably the best team in Europe in his penultimate game under a manager he could join at Manchester United come the end of the season.

Whether the leading goalscorer in 2024 follows Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford or not, he looks destined for bigger and better things, which often means the Premier League. But fair warning to Gyokeres and his suitors: scoring a bucketload of goals in the season before moving to the English top flight is far from a guarantee of success once you get there.

These ten players all scored 30+ goals in the campaign before moving to the Premier League and flopped.

Timo Werner (RB Leipzig to Chelsea)
One of five players signed under Frank Lampard in the summer of 2020 that led an overly optimistic Chelsea-supporting journalist to claim the Blues legend had a ‘foolproof squad’ to work with and must mount a Premier League challenge.

Thiago Silva was an excellent buy and Ben Chilwell has had his moments but none of Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz or Timo Werner proved to be anywhere near as successful as we thought they would be at Stamford Bridge, with Werner in particular a source of huge frustration.

He’s not really got going again since, with Tottenham fans now ruing him being the man on the end of chance, preparing themselves for inevitable fluffed shots in good positions or terrible decision-making from a striker for whom finding the back of the net was second nature before he arrived in the Premier League.

Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan to Chelsea)
On the back of Champions League glory under a manager who knew what he was doing, Lukaku was deemed the final piece of Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea puzzle.

Four seasons after Diego Costa’s departure, having messed around with Alvaro Morata, Gonzalo Higuain, Tammy Abraham, Havertz and Werner, Chelsea signed A Proper Centre-Forward; a bully, essentially.

Lukaka scored in his first game on his return to Chelsea against Arsenal when we all thought the Blues were onto something, but scored just three more before his bombshell Sky Italia interview in December which took aim at Tuchel’s tactics, and that was that.

                  Eduardo (Dinamo Zagreb to Arsenal)
Not so much Eduardo that flopped but his left foot. Sometimes we can still see it hanging limply from the rest of his leg, joined by mere sinew, when we close our eyes at night.

He suffered arguably the worst injury in Premier League history when Birmingham’s Martin Taylor broke both his tibia and fibula and who knows how his career may have progressed without that harrowing moment.

                  Darwin Nunez (Benfica to Liverpool)
Depends on your definition of a flop etc etc. but after a goal off the bench in his first appearance for Liverpool in the Community Shield win over Manchester City, after which more than a few Liverpool fans suggested they may have signed their own Erling Haaland, perhaps even a more rounded version, we can safely say that Nunez has not lived up to expectations at Anfield.

                  Djibril Cisse (Auxerre to Liverpool)
Cisse faced an uphill battle from the moment he walked through the door on Merseyside with the manager who had been so desperate to sign him, Gerard Houllier, already dismissed in favour of Rafa Benitez, whom it’s fair to say wasn’t quite so keen on the Frenchman.

“I keep a fantastic memory of England, even if I still hold a grudge on the coach,” Cisse told L’Equipe Magazine. “I have still not swallowed it. Maybe I will never swallow it. I am still very upset. I scored 19 goals and I never played! The coach and myself were not compatible.”

                  Roberto Soldado (Valencia to Tottenham)
“He’s a £26million footballer, our record signing, don’t you think it will affect him? I don’t care – Harry’s starting.” A story Tim Sherwood will tell anyone who brushes past him in the street as he takes credit for Harry Kane, who would not be England’s greatest ever goalscorer had his genius manager not put him in the team over six-goal Soldado in April 2014.

Nine One-Season Wonder seasons at Tottenham followed for Kane as Soldado presumably regrets moving to a club that was in the process of brewing a goal machine.

Vincent Janssen (AZ Alkmaar to Tottenham)
We would have loved to have been a fly on the wall in what we’re assuming were talks between Daniel Levy and Janssen beset with confusion, with neither party anywhere close to being convinced a switch to Spurs was a good move.

Kane had just scored 25 Premier League goals having managed 21 the season before, and yet with uncertainty over goalscoring longevity all but removed Spurs decided to spend £20m on a striker for the bench and Janssen either had far too much faith in his own ability or was perfectly happy to watch from the sidelines. He started seven Premier League games.

Alvaro Negredo (Sevilla to Manchester City)
Signed in the same summer as Stevan Jovetic in that period before Pep Guardiola when Manchester City were throwing money willy nilly at problems that they didn’t really have, with Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko doing perfectly well without supposed added firepower that failed to make a mark at the Etihad.

Mateja Kezman (PSV Eindhoven to Chelsea)
Batman to [Arjen] Robben and they arrived at Chelsea together from PSV Eindhoven, with many more excited by Kezman’s arrival than his sidekick on the back of not one but two 30+ goal seasons for the Dutch side.

Their careers took rather different trajectories with Robben earning a move to Real Madrid through his Chelsea performances and then to Bayern Munich, where he won 14 major trophies. Kezman meanwhile scored fewer goals across the nine seasons after leaving PSV than in the two standout campaigns that got him the move to Chelsea.

Memphis Depay (PSV to Manchester United)
OK, so he only got 28 goals for PSV, but we’ll be damned if we’re making a list of nine. He’s been linked with a return on more than one occasion having recorded excellent numbers for Lyon and then also impressing at Barcelona, but two goals and no assists in 1,427 Premier League minutes for Manchester United really is a rotten record.

Paul Pogba tipped for blockbuster Man United return by former star

                    paul-pogba-tipped-for-blockbuster-man-united-return-by-former-star

Louis Saha, a former Manchester United striker, has expressed his desire to see Paul Pogba return to Old Trafford after the midfielder’s doping ban was reduced.

Pogba, likely to part ways with Juventus, will be eligible to return to action by March 2025.

The possibility of a third spell with United is gaining attention as Juventus appears set to terminate his contract.

The World Cup-winning midfielder recently received a reduced suspension for doping after successfully appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Initially handed a four-year ban, the suspension has now been cut to 18 months.

Although Pogba is keen to return to professional football, it is unlikely that he will do so with Juventus, which has been expected to terminate his contract since the ban was announced.

Saha, who represented both Man United and France alongside Pogba, spoke in an interview with Paddy Power, revealing his hope to see Pogba back in the Premier League with United.

“Paul Pogba can go wherever he wants,” Saha said, emphasising Pogba’s potential to make a significant impact if provided with the right platform to showcase his abilities.

According to Saha, Pogba’s potential return to United could be mutually beneficial, mainly since the recent loss of Scott McTominay has caused midfield turnover at the club.

Saha further commented on the issues Pogba and others have encountered at United in recent years, acknowledging challenges with former management and the club’s transitions.

“Letting Pogba go was a sign of difficulty in managing Manchester United’s transition,” he explained, highlighting that similar obstacles have been faced by stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford.

Ruben Amorim, the Portuguese manager set to take over as United’s head coach on November 11, will play a key role in deciding the roster’s future direction, including whether or not Pogba fits into his vision for the team.

Transfer rumours have already mentioned Pogba’s name, linking him to leagues in the United States and Saudi Arabia.

The MLS and the Saudi Pro League have increasingly become destinations for top European players seeking new opportunities. Each league has shown interest in securing Pogba’s signature.

However, Saha’s endorsement could spark renewed discussions about a Premier League return, allowing Pogba to maintain a higher level of competitive play as he looks to represent France internationally again.
