National team boss launches passionate defence of United star after his disastrous cameo in shock defeat

    national-team-boss-launches-passionate-defence-of-united-star-after-his-disastrous-cameo-in-shock-defeat

Argentina national team boss Lionel Scaloni launched a defence of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho following his poor cameo in the side’s 2-1 defeat to Paraguay.

The Albiceleste slipped to a third loss in their 2026 World Cup qualifiers, in an uninspiring performance at Estadio Defensores del Chaco in Asuncion.

Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez gave Argentina the lead just 11 minutes in but Paraguay restored parity moments later through Antonio Sanabria.

The hosts took the lead two minutes after the restart courtesy of Omar Alderete. In an effort to try and get back into the game, Scaloni turned to his bench and brought on Garnacho with 26 minutes left on the clock.

However, the Carrington academy graduate didn’t have the desired impact.

Garnacho failed to register a shot and didn’t complete the one dribble he embarked on. He also won just one of the five aerial duels he delved into.

    (Stats obtained from Sofascore)

Clarin newspaper gave Garnacho a player rating of 4/10, claiming he “did not have any influence on the attack.”

However, after the match, Scaloni defended Garnacho.  He said [via TNT Sports Argentina], “We seek to have depth with the entry of Garnacho. It does him good to play these kinds of games.”

“I’m not here to criticize my players, I’m here to support them. We knew it was going to be a tough game. We’re here to keep going and give confidence to many of the new players.”

“We played well in the first half and the first action at the start of the second made everything difficult.”

“We have to congratulate our opponents who defended very well.”

Scaloni will certainly be hoping for far better fortunes when his players face off against Peru on Wednesday morning.

Ex-England international slams Ratcliffe and INEOS for “not caring enough” about women’s team

      ex-england-international-slams-ratcliffe-and-ineos-for-“not-caring-enough”-about-women’s-team

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has taken aim at Manchester United’s owners for failing to care enough about the women’s team.

Wright also questioned when Marc Skinner’s side would become a priority for the hierarchy.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have over the past few months come under criticism for their treatment of the women’s team. They were moved out of their training facility to accommodate the men’s side as the Carrington building undergoes renovations.

Ratcliffe himself acknowledged that the women’s team would become a priority for them only after the problems facing the men’s set-up have been fully addressed.

Wright, who has consistently been one of the biggest advocates for the women’s game, spoke on Crossways and pointed out, “When you hear murmurings of Man United saying ‘once we sort out the men’s, we’re gonna focus on the women’s’. When is that going to be? You look at the men’s and how far they are off it at the minute.”

“When are they actually going to take notice of the women? I genuinely believe, especially with how Man United Women are playing, they do not care. They genuinely do not care enough.”

The former England international also took a swipe at Skinner following his comments after United’s stalemate against Aston Villa last weekend.

The Reds started the WSL season with three wins but have since drawn their last three fixtures. At the moment, United are seven points off the top of the table.

Wright said about Skinner, “Unfortunately for him, the interview he did the other day didn’t stand him in good stead. What he’s saying, in respect of new players, the team gelling. He’s had this team for long enough now where they should be doing a lot better.”

“You talk about the four new players, [Celin] Bizet…she’s played in the WSL before, [Dominque] Janssen has been there before, [Elisabeth] Terland and then Grace Clinton who had to go to Tottenham to get herself better and in the England squad.”

“You listen to that interview, no plan B, no real structure of what they’re doing. They were playing against a Villa side that were bottom of the league and he’s talking about they got a good result, at home. This is why I was quite pleased to see Man United fans pull him up about that interview and how David Brent-ish it was for me.”

United are back in action on Sunday when they travel to the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City.

Man Utd: Ibrahimovic hints at signing ‘fantastic’ star ‘doing well’ as team-mate ‘attracts’ Euro giants

        man-utd:-ibrahimovic-hints-at-signing-‘fantastic’-star-‘doing-well’-as-team-mate-‘attracts’-euro-giants

AC Milan advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic has hinted that the European giants could sign a “fantastic player” from Manchester United.

Ibrahimovic had a spell at Man Utd towards the end of his playing career. He scored 29 goals in his 53 appearances across all competitions.

The 43-year-old spent a significant portion of his playing career in the Serie A as he had spells at AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus.

He made 163 appearances for AC Milan across two stints and finished his career with the Serie A giants last year. Since retiring, he has stayed on as he’s become a sporting advisor for the Italian outfit.

AC Milan could raid Man Utd in the coming months as reports in Italy say they are interested in Sweden international Victor Lindelof, who is a compatriot of Ibrahimovic.

The 30-year-old joined Man Utd for around £29m in 2017 and has been impacted by injuries as she’s failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford.

READ: Man Utd top injury table with 57 Premier League games missed

Lindelof has not started a single Premier League match this season. His long-term future is in doubt as he’s entered the final year of his contract.

Ibrahimovic has responded to the “rumours” linking AC Milan with Lindelof, who is a “fantastic player”.

“There are a lot of rumours going around. That rumour is more because I’m Swedish, and Lindelöf is Swedish. He’s a fantastic player. I think he’s doing well at United,” Ibrahimovic said.

“We have many good players in that position. I don’t know what he wants. I think you have to ask him. If we are there? You never know.”

When asked what he wants, Ibrahimovic added: “We want a lot. And we’re working for it.”

England international Harry Maguire is another player whose future is in doubt as he has also entered the final year of his contract.

Maguire has been heavily linked with an exit in recent transfer windows, but he’s opted to fight for his place at Man Utd.

The experienced defender has previously proven that he suits a 3-4-3 formation, so the appointment of new head coach Ruben Amorim could help him.

Maguire is still ‘attracting’ interest from elsewhere as a report in Italy claims he is one of the players being looked at by Serie A giants Juventus.

Earlier this month, a report from GiveMeSport claimed Maguire is not interested in leaving Man Utd in January.

‘The England international is currently focused on staying at United and Maguire believes that he can win an extension to his deal in the coming months.

‘Maguire is hoping to prove himself to Amorim once he arrives, and will be buoyed by the prospect of the Portuguese manager introducing a three centre-back system.

‘Maguire’s best performances in recent years have arguably come for England whilst playing in a three, a formation that lends to his ball-carrying ability.

‘As of now, United have shown no desire to keep Maguire beyond the expiry of his contract next summer.

‘The England defender’s deal does include a one-year option which United could activate, and the 31-year-old believes that is a possibility.

‘Maguire, who lost the captaincy under Erik ten Hag, has refused to leave Old Trafford in the last two transfer windows as he still believes he has something to offer at United.’

Ruud van Nistelrooy has sent an emotional farewell message to Manchester United, the backroom staff, players and the fans following his recent departure.

Van Nistelrooy’s exit was announced on Monday, just hours after new head coach Ruben Amorim arrived at Carrington to assume his role officially.

Former Red Devils striker Van Nistelrooy returned to United in the summer as part of INEOS’ coaching reshuffle. After Erik ten Hag’s late dismissal last month, Van Nistelrooy was appointed interim manager.

He guided the team to three victories and a draw, playing a pivotal role in halting the streak of dismal results and performances under Ten Hag.

Van Nistelrooy’s final match in the Old Trafford dugout was last weekend’s comfortable 3-0 victory over Leicester City.

The 48-year-old had repeatedly expressed a desire to stay at the club and be part of Amorim’s backroom staff but it appears the new United head coach had other ideas.

Now, Van Nistelrooy has broken his silence via a heartfelt message posted on X.

He wrote, “To everyone at Manchester United Football Club, in particular the backroom staff, the players and the fans. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible efforts and support.”

“It has been a privilege and honour to represent the club as a player, coach and manager, and I will always cherish the memories we have shared together.”

“Manchester United will always have a special place in my heart, and I hope there are many more glory days at Old Trafford very soon – not only because I want the club to do well, but because you all deserve it!”

“All the best and take care, Ruud.”

Van Nistelrooy is unlikely to be short of suitors. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Burnley are interested in taking him to Turf Moor as their new gaffer.

It has also been claimed that Van Nistelrooy has applied to become the next Coventry City boss.

‘Weird’ Man Utd transfer dismissed after claims £85m man could be swapped for exciting Brazilian

            ‘weird’-man-utd-transfer-dismissed-after-claims-85m-man-could-be-swapped-for-exciting-brazilian

Claims that new Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim could use Antony in a swap deal to sign Flamengo youngster Lorran have been dismissed.

The Red Devils sacked Erik ten Hag after a terrible start to the new Premier League season with the Dutchman leading them to just three wins in their opening nine matches.

Ruud van Nistelrooy put four more points on the board in the two Premier League matches since Ten Hag’s departure by beating Leicester City and drawing with Chelsea.

Man Utd moved quickly to bring in Ten Hag’s permanent successor in Ruben Amorim with the Portuguese coach arriving in Manchester on Monday after winning his final match as Sporting Lisbon manager 4-2 against Braga over the weekend.

And there are already plenty of rumours about which players could arrive in the next couple of transfer windows as the Red Devils look to give Amorim some support.

There are some doubts as to whether Amorim has the right players to suit his 3-4-3 formation, which he preferred to play at Sporting, while there are serious questions about the attackers at Man Utd.

Antony has been a huge disappointment since arriving from Ajax in a £85m deal in 2022 with the Brazilian only making two substitute appearances in the Premier League this season.

And that has led to rumours that Antony will leave Old Trafford in the January transfer window with rumours earlier this week suggesting that Man Utd could use him in a deal for Flamengo attacking midfielder Lorran.

However, journalist Jorge Nicola has dismissed the “weird” claims that Antony will be used to sign the 18-year-old anytime soon.

Nicola said on his YouTube channel: “Let’s change the subject and talk about a speculation that comes from England, and the account that Lorran, a Flamengo player, is of interest to Manchester United.

“From there, United could use Antony as a currency to hire the 18-year-old player. I confess that I found the story there weird, after all, Lorran is valued at €12m, and Anthony was bought for €100m.

“Anyway, I thought it was better to look for Junior Pedroso, who is Antony’s representative, to know if there was any search, any inquiry, if this story has any meaning. The answer was that Antony has no intention of leaving Manchester United.

“The club has just changed coach, Ruben Amorim, who was Sporting’s commander, was hired, was presented now at the FIFA date, and from there a new possibility opens up for Anthony to be better used. He has another two and a half years of contract with the English club and intends to continue.”

United are “very serious option” for elite winger who is available on free transfer next summer – report

Manchester United have emerged as a realistic destination for Leroy Sane, as per reports.

Sane, who is currently at Bayern Munich, played in the Premier League from 2016 to 2020 at Manchester City.

His start under Pep Guardiola was impressive, and he even earned comparisons to United legend Ryan Giggs, owing to his ball-carrying ability.

However, the Germany international returned to the Bundesliga after steadily losing his guaranteed spot on the flanks under Guardiola.

The 28-year-old has had a positive stint in Munich, but there are question marks over his future, as he nears the final months of his contract.

According to CaughtOffside, a return to the Premier League could “very well be on the cards” for the German winger, who has attracted interest from both Arsenal and Manchester United.

It is claimed the Red Devils are “knocking at his door”. Due to his history with City, there are doubts concerning United’s chances, but the report suggests the Mancunian giants are a “very serious option” for Sane.

The North London outfit, however, appear to have the upper hand as Sane and his family “weren’t 100% settled and comfortable in Manchester.”

Sane’s priority at the moment is to remain in Munich. But his current salary, believed to be worth €20m-a-year, has allegedly proven to be an obstacle as Bayern aren’t keen on offering him the same wages again.

Should he become a free agent, the aforementioned figure may be considered viable by other clubs, owing to his skill sets and experience.

Marcus Rashford, 27, is currently the most experienced forward at United and he has struggled to get on the scoresheet regularly in the last 18 months.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Ruben Amorim is considering playing Rashford as a number nine in his 3-4-3 system.

Man Utd ‘priority’ Kane ‘could return’ after record ‘offer’ for two reasons as Amorim ‘wants’ huge ‘coup’

                man-utd-‘priority’-kane-‘could-return’-after-record-‘offer’-for-two-reasons-as-amorim-‘wants’-huge-‘coup’

According to reports, Bayern Munich forward Harry Kane ‘could return’ to the Premier League next year amid interest from Manchester United.

Kane left boyhood club Tottenham Hotspur during the 2023 summer transfer window. He was sold to Bayern Munich for around £86m after he entered the final year of his contract with the Premier League outfit.

The England international was linked with several Premier League clubs before he joined Bayern Munich, but Daniel Levy was reportedly unwilling to negotiate with rival clubs.

This made a move abroad more likely and he’s scored 61 goals in his 61 appearances for Bayern Munich across all competitions. Despite this, Bayer Leverkusen upstaged them as the Bundesliga giants failed to win a trophy last season.

Under new head coach Vincent Kompany, Bayern Munich have made a strong start to the new campaign. They are unbeaten in ten Bundesliga games and five points clear at the top of the table.

READ: Man Utd top injury table with 57 Premier League games missed

Man Utd were among the clubs interested in Kane when he left Tottenham last year and they have been heavily linked with the experienced forward of late.

The Red Devils have struggled in front of goal this season, so new head coach Ruben Amorim could push the board to bring in a new forward in January or next summer.

A recent report claimed Man Utd and PSG have already submitted record ‘offers’ to Bayern Munich for Kane as Amorim wants ‘two resounding failures’ to leave.

A new report in Spain claims Kane ‘could leave Bayern Munich and return to the Premier League’ as Man Utd ‘want’ to sign him.

The report claims Kane ‘could be tempted’ to sign for Man Utd by ‘the lure of a return to his homeland and the chance to lead a revival’ at Old Trafford.

‘Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane could be one of the most surprising moves of the transfer market if his return to England is confirmed.

‘Manchester United, under the direction of new arrival Ruben Amorim, have reportedly made the English international one of their priorities to strengthen their attack.

‘This operation, which would be a coup for the Red Devils, would mark the return of the striker to the Premier League after his departure from Tottenham.

‘Kane’s adaptation to German football has been swift and effective, establishing himself as a key player in Bayern’s attack.

‘However, Manchester United’s interest poses a dilemma for both the player and the Bavarian club. Although Bayern have no intention of parting ways with their top scorer, the possibility of an astronomical offer could make the Germans reconsider their stance.’

Ruud van Nistelrooy and Frank Lampard go head-to-head for management role at shock club – report

                  ruud-van-nistelrooy-and-frank-lampard-go-head-to-head-for-management-role-at-shock-club-–-report

Manchester United suffered a dismal start to the season under Erik ten Hag and with the club perilously close to the drop-zone, INEOS had no choice but to act.

Ten Hag was relieved of his duties following the shock loss to West Ham with Ruud van Nistelrooy placed in interim charge. And the former club striker did a fantastic job of steadying the ship.

The Red Devils went unbeaten in four games, winning three of them convincingly. They scored 11 goals in the process with plenty of underperforming stars regaining their form under the 48-year-old.

Van Nistelrooy proved to be a very popular appointment among the players, and they also unequivocally backed him to stay even with the impending appointment of Ruben Amorim as the new head coach.

                  Ruud’s future

However, the former Sporting Lisbon manager thought otherwise and chose to bring in his own staff and the former Real Madrid forward was ruthlessly axed.

The former PSV Eindhoven boss had made no secret of his desire to return to management and as relayed by The Peoples Person, Burnley were interested in offering him a route back into management immediately.

The Championship club had chased his signature last summer as well only for the lure of returning to Old Trafford proving too strong in the end as Van Nistelrooy chose to join as an assistant.

Now, as reported by Sam Cohen via Givemesport, the ex-United interim boss has his eyes on another Championship managerial role.

                  Coventry City offer

The former Dutch striker has applied for the Coventry City manager’s post after the club sacked former Red Devil Mark Robins earlier this month.

Former Chelsea great Frank Lampard is reportedly another who is eyeing the role. Coventry are yet to take a decision and are still welcoming applications.

The Sky Blues are currently 17th in the second division, only one point above the relegation zone after winning only four games from their opening 15 games.

They had reached the FA Cup semifinals last season, and managed to come back from a three-goal deficit against United at Wembley only to get knocked out via penalty shootout.

Man Utd: Ruben Amorim picks ‘preferred No.9’ as Alejandro Garnacho ‘sulk’ cause revealed

                    man-utd:-ruben-amorim-picks-‘preferred-no.9’-as-alejandro-garnacho-‘sulk’-cause-revealed

Ruben Amorim reportedly looks set to select Marcus Rashford as his ‘preferred number nine option’ in a new system for Manchester United in a bid to get the best out of the academy graduate.

Rashford was in sparkling form in Erik ten Hag’s debut season at the club, scoring 30 goals in all competitions in the 2022/2023 season, but has struggled since, finding the net just 12 more times in 61 appearances.

There’s been doubt as to how the 27-year-old will fit in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, with some even suggesting he could be used at wing-back, rather than as an inside forward, with Alejandro Garnacho and Mason Mount more suited to those roles behind the central striker.

But GIVEMESPORT claim the Portuguese boss looks set to pick Rashford ahead of Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee as his traditional No.9.

Rashford has played in that role, but has looked better suited coming from wide on the left, but ‘insiders familiar with Amorim’s way of thinking’ expect to see the England international as United’s focal point.

                    The report states:

‘The belief is that the new head coach will look to attack the channels and space behind defenders in transition, and these are characteristics that Rashford possesses that could help him rediscover his best form.

‘Club bosses have been encouraged by what they have seen from the forward in pre-season and so far, but with four goals and three assists in 18 appearances this season, there is an acceptance that he needs more output, and they are not giving up on getting him back to his best.’

Rashford’s move into the middle is bad news for Zirkzee, who scored on his debut against Fulham but has been heavily criticised having failed to score in any of his next 16 appearances, and for Hojlund, who’s shown flashes of what he’s capable of but all too infrequently, and has just 18 goals in 55 appearances.

Alejandro Garnacho is presumably set for a major role as one of the two inverted wingers, but should focus on his football rather than taking his lead from Rashford, who sets a bad example according to Troy Deeney.

“For a little while now let’s be honest he hasn’t delivered to the standard that we know he can,” Deeney said on talkSPORT.

Manchester United conducted a mini-revamp of the backline with Raphael Varane and Willy Kambwala departing as Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt were signed in their place.

The Red Devils were eager to offload Victor Lindelof as well but he suffered an injury in pre-season. Apart from the toe injury, his wage demands also meant no deal materialised despite plenty of interest.

The 30-year-old has made seven appearances in all competitions since regaining fitness, playing at full-back and defensive midfield in a few games while also starting in his usual centre-back spot in a few games.

Erik ten Hag had identified the Swede as a backup option out wide if needed but injuries to Yoro and Harry Maguire have meant Lindelof also got his chance to play at the heart of the backline.

                      Lindelof’s future

The Sweden international’s current deal ends in 2025 and the 20-time English league champions have no intention of offering him a contract renewal.

Interestingly, new head coach Ruben Amorim had played with the defender during his time in Benfica and both share a good bond, which could in turn lead to a rise in minutes and a possible renewal.

After all, INEOS will discuss with the Portuguese before embarking on contract talks. But the former Sporting Lisbon boss had made it clear to the new co-owners that he wants players who can handle the intensity of his methods.

And at the age of 30, with a poor recent injury record, the Sweden international certainly does not look like he will be able to crack the code.

That is why he has offered his services to Serie A clubs like Juventus while their rivals AC Milan are also eyeing the United star.

AC Milan advisor and former United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic was asked about his compatriot and these recent links. He said, “There are a lot of rumours going around. That rumour is more because I’m Swedish, and Lindelöf is Swedish.”

He refused to let these rumours die down, claiming that Lindelof is an excellent player and that the Rossoneri are always looking to strengthen with the addition of great players.

“He’s a fantastic player. I think he’s doing well at United,” Ibrahimovic was quoted as saying by Fotbollskanalen. “We have many good players in that position. I don’t know what he wants.

                      Zlatan on Lindelof

“I think you have to ask him. If we are there? You never know. We want a lot. And we’re working for it.”

Lindelof will be free to agree a pre-contract agreement from January unless the Old Trafford side can move him on for a small fee in the winter itself.

He was brought to the club by Jose Mourinho back in 2017 and has had a mixed career in Manchester. It is clear that he is no longer the answer and needs to go somewhere else to prolong his club career.

Serie A’s slow pace and technical style will suit the Swede. It remains to be seen if he stays for the full season under Amorim and which team he ultimately joins.
