Man Utd: Jadon Sancho U-turn tempts Arsenal into £40m Rashford move as Red Devils problem revealed

    man-utd:-jadon-sancho-u-turn-tempts-arsenal-into-40m-rashford-move-as-red-devils-problem-revealed

What if the problem with Marcus Rashford isn’t Marcus Rashford but Manchester United? Jadon Sancho may have made Arsenal’s mind up.

‘It won’t last.’ A message from a Manchester United-supporting pal after – as a Chelsea fan – I thanked him for Jadon Sancho. I left it there. As a dad of two, including a newborn, he’s got enough on his mind during those long sleepless nights without me labouring over what is evidently a sore subject for so many Red Devils.

What I would have demanded of a less-stressed United fan was any evidence that Sancho at Chelsea is a mere flash in the pan. What in Sancho’s past suggests this is a temporary uplift ahead of a crushing low? His answer could only have been what happened at Manchester United.

Brilliant at Borussia Dortmund, brilliant again on his return to Borussia Dortmund and now – with his stunning goal and excellent performance in the 4-3 win over Tottenham his crowning moment – very good at Chelsea.

I don’t wish to further my friend’s despair in a time of great stress, and believe it’s in his best interests to reach the inevitable epiphany himself, watching whichever Manchester United forward prompts a pile-on from the fanbase through their performance against Viktoria Plzen on Thursday night and asking: “Are we the baddies?”

Odds are that forward will be Marcus Rashford. Reports suggest Ruben Amorim is willing to see the back of the England international, who is an attractive candidate to send packing for whichever member of the rag-tag Manchester United directorship now has their hand on the transfer tiller as a ‘pure profit’ sale; which may delay Sir Jim Ratcliffe from dishonouring the Busby Babes or giving the finger to disabled supporters for the time being.

He’s been really poor for a good while now, scoring just 15 goals in 66 appearances since the start of last season, with his profligacy possibly more excusable to fans than his apparent blasé attitude to playing for Manchester United.

It really does now feel as though a transfer is Rashford and the club’s only recourse, with the perceived threat of exclusion from his coach’s ill-suited 3-4-3 now all but confirmed through Rashford’s displays under the Portuguese coach, despite flattering to deceive with three goals in the opening two Premier League games of his tenure.

Rashford being on the bench for the two games against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest between which Amorim claimed he was “close to knowing my best line-up” is telling.

We don’t sign up to the view that it’s Paris Saint-Germain, Saudi Arabia or bust for Rashford, particularly at just £40m.

Joe Cole reckons he would be “a hell of a signing” for a Premier League side and – like Danny Murphy – believes Arsenal should be in the running for him. “There would be some people who would take Rashford over [Gabriel] Martinelli,” Murphy said.

And actually, Rashford might look at the struggles of Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, the stuttering form of Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz, and Mikel Arteta’s failure to reignite Raheem Sterling, and wonder whether the Emirates is the best place to relaunch his career. Being a set-piece block-man might not be the greatest lure.

READ MORE: Jakub Kiwior makes ‘no sense’ but Gabriel Jesus does as Arsenal v Monaco flags need for £62m upgrade

We can absolutely see why Arsenal would be interested though. An in-form Rashford on the opposite flank to a permanently in-form Bukayo Saka is an enticing prospect. And like the rest of us, they will be looking at Sancho’s revival at Chelsea and wondering whether they can work similar magic with Rashford.

We say magic but there’s no wand or potion required when the apparent fix is as simple as Not Being At Manchester United.

“From the very first day, [Chelsea] made me feel welcome. I know I have a lot of people to prove wrong,” Sancho said after his starring role against Tottenham. And maybe it will be as simple as that for Arsenal or whoever else takes a reasoned punt on Rashford. Give him a fresh start, make him feel loved and give him an opportunity to silence his critics away from the majority of those critics.

Because as is clearly the case with Sancho – whose poor form at Old Trafford people blamed on managers, the Premier League, his price tag and the player himself – the problem with Rashford may not be be anything other than Manchester United.

Man Utd takeover: Jassim ‘still there’ amid INEOS ‘exit route’ as ‘three-day revolution plan’ surfaces

      man-utd-takeover:-jassim-‘still-there’-amid-ineos-‘exit-route’-as-‘three-day-revolution-plan’-surfaces

Sheikh Jassim reportedly ‘can still offer INEOS an exit route’ from Manchester United after he had a ‘three-day plan’ to ‘revolutionise’ Old Trafford.

Towards the end of 2023, the Glazer family put Man Utd up for sale and this prolonged process dragged on for over a year until a resolution was reached.

INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatar’s Jassim emerged as the standout candidates to buy Man Utd and they tussled for months before the British billionaire won the race to buy a stake in Man Utd.

Jassim and his team submitted several bids to Man Utd and were only interested in a full takeover. Ratcliffe initially intended to buy a majority stake, but he eventually amended his offer and purchased a 27.7% stake.

At the start of this year, Ratcliffe’s arrival was confirmed and he took control of footballing operations at Old Trafford.

This was viewed a much-needed fresh start for the Red Devils, but Ratcliffe has had a rough first year at Man Utd.

READ: Ranking Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Man Utd mistakes: 1) Dan Ashworth, 7) Busby Babes, 13) Being a Grinch

Ratcliffe’s arrival was met with immense positivity, but this has quickly subsided as he has made controversial decisions. He has sanctioned mass redundancies, hiked ticket prices, taken Sir Alex Ferguson’s global ambassador role away and scrapped their staff Christmas party.

The INEOS supremo is being heavily criticised and a report from The Daily Mail claims Jassim ‘planned to revolutionise Man United in just three days’ if his takeover was successful.

‘The situation is being monitored closely but there is no gloating here in Doha, only deep sadness and a regret over what might have been.

‘It was, Mail Sport can reveal, not meant to be like this. Plans for the rebirth of Manchester United, fuelled by vast wealth and some of the finest sporting and finance brains on the planet, had already been carefully drafted.

‘The strategy for ‘Project Ruby’ as they had named it, went like this:

      ‘Day One: Announce takeover.

‘Day Two: Announce that all debt has been removed, that the club has been taken off the New York Stock Exchange and that it is no longer answerable to far-away stakeholders.

‘Day Three: Announce fully-funded plans for new stadium. As simple as that. Three days to change the club’s history. In one quick movement, the life-sucking debt burden on United’s proud shoulders – a legacy of a leveraged takeover that is estimated to have cost the club close to £1bn to service – lifted in a heartbeat. A clean break. As for the stadium, there would be no attempt to grab any money from the taxpayer or confusion over whether this would be a refurbishment or a rebuild. The funds were in place to build one of the biggest and best venues on the planet.’

The detailed report also boldly claims ‘Jassim can still offer INEOS an exit route’ as he is ‘still there’.

‘Perhaps, however, this is not the end of the story. ‘Sheikh Jassim is still a rich guy,’ explained one advisor. ‘He is still a United fan. He is not going to rush off and try another Premier League club.

‘If the opportunity to buy the whole of Manchester United arose again at some point in the future it is hard to see there not being a big level of interest. The plans are still there.’

Sources reveal United’s position on mega deal for Bayern’s Alphonso Davies – The Athletic

        sources-reveal-united’s-position-on-mega-deal-for-bayern’s-alphonso-davies-–-the-athletic

It now looks extremely unlikely that Manchester United will sign Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.

Ruben Amorim’s appointment as head coach of the Old Trafford club means that the first team will normally play in his favoured 3-4-3 formation, making world-class wing backs a priority for the system.

Davies has been unable to agree a new contract with current club Bayern Munich, with his deal expiring in June. This has put several big clubs on alert, including United, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Meanwhile, there is still a possibility that he will sign a new deal at the German club, having previously rejected a 5-year contract offer of around £207,000 per week. A later deal also fell through when the club got cold feet and broke off negotiations.

With Real blowing hot and cold over the 24 year old and Barcelona struggling financially, it was starting to look like it could become a straight race between the Red Devils and their North West rivals.

However, The Athletic report that there is little appetite on either side for Davies to join United.

“Sources close to the player say the upheaval at the club and their current lack of involvement in the Champions League makes them less attractive from his end,” the outlet claims.

“At a time when budgets are tight at United, Davies would be a high-earner even if arriving as a free agent and club sources say it is not a priority deal at present.”

This seems to put paid to recent reports that United had arranged to meet with the Canadian next month.

The Athletic believe the most likely outcome is that a new deal will finally be agreed for the player to stay at his current club.

United for their part will probably look for a more economical option to strengthen the left flank.

They have been linked with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri, although both clubs have reportedly been looking at eye-watering transfer fees for their young stars. Ait-Nouri my be the more realistic target, especially if Wolves are relegated, as he will only have a year left on his contract in June.

Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez and Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu are also claimed to be on Ineos’ radar, as is their €20 million buy-back option for Benfica’s Alvaro Carreras.

Yesterday it was also reported that United had agreed a $6 million (US) deal for Cerro Porteño’s 18-year-old left back Diego Leon, although that might be one for the future rather than a ready-made upgrade to Amorim’s first XI.

Man Utd legend Keane gives 143-word explanation over furious Ipswich fan clash: ‘I wasn’t angry’

          man-utd-legend-keane-gives-143-word-explanation-over-furious-ipswich-fan-clash:-‘i-wasn’t-angry’

Man Utd legend Roy Keane insists he “wasn’t angry” after he offered to meet an Ipswich Town fan in the car park earlier this season.

Keane was in attendance as the Tractor Boys came from a goal down to draw 1-1 against Man Utd in Ruben Amorim’s first match in charge of the Red Devils.

Former Ipswich boss Keane was part of the Sky Sports punditry team that watched as Omari Hutchinson’s deflected long-range strike cancelled out Marcus Rashford’s early opener for Man Utd.

Keane spent around 20 months as the Ipswich manager between 2009 and 2011 in a mixed spell in East Anglia and one Tractor Boys fan had not forgot his time in charge of his club.

The Man Utd legend went over to a group of Ipswich fans, who had been shouting abuse at him after the match, Keane was heard saying: “Wait in the car park, we can have a discussion. I’ll wait for you in the car park.”

Neil Finbow, the fan who Keane offered to meet outside the ground, took to Facebook to describe the incident with Keane to his followers.

Finbow wrote on the social media site: “New claim to fame. Just been offered out into the car park by Roy Keane after a few choice words.

“Even Jamie Redknapp had to come over to get him away. Just your average Sunday evening out.”

When asked by another user what sparked the altercation last month, Finbow added: “I was reminding him that he set us back five years and ruined our football club.

“I also mentioned how he wasn’t fit to step foot anywhere near our ground [Portman Road].

“Oh, and I mentioned about him walking out on a World Cup and breaking Haaland’s leg and putting it in his autobiography. I hate the bloke, and that’s been boiling up since he got sacked all those years ago.”

Finbow continued on Facebook: “The truth hurts. I feel sick when I look at him.

“Few home truths thrown at him, he decided to bite. Very unprofessional. I’m sure he had worse when he was playing.”

And now Keane has given his side of the story with the Man Utd legend insisting that he didn’t get “angry” during the incident and said the Ipswich fan was “swearing in front of kids”.

Keane said on the Stick To Football podcast: “I wasn’t angry at the Ipswich Town game.

“What happens when we’re doing matches is and the analysis is happening at the end of the match when fans can be up or down, whatever emotions they are feeling – and people think they can abuse you, and it seems to be a, ‘We’re supposed to accept that’.

“I went over to him twice – I said, ‘No problem, if you want to abuse me or if you want a discussion with me, well I’m working’. I went over to him twice at different stages and he was swearing in front of kids.

“I said, ‘If you want to see me afterwards’ – and people thought I was asking him for a [fight] – I said, ‘I’ll see you in the car park’. Where else was I going to see him? He wasn’t there!”

United star aiming to smash Rashford and Rooney’s record in Europa League tonight

            united-star-aiming-to-smash-rashford-and-rooney’s-record-in-europa-league-tonight

Manchester United will face Viktoria Plzeň in Czechia this evening, aiming to grab a valuable away win in the Europa League.

The encounter will be the first match between the two sides in history and both will aim for a crucial win as they both sit on nine points in the table, looking to land in the top eight positions, which ensure automatic qualification to the last 16 phase.

After two successive defeats on the bounce for Ruben Amorim, he will be aiming to get back to winning ways this evening.

With United’s poor league form and tough draws away to Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal waiting in the domestic cups, most fans will look at the Europa League as the most realistic route to silverware this season.

Here are three storylines fans are discussing before the match.

Rasmus Hojlund looking to enter record books

According to the BBC, “twenty-one-year-old Rasmus Hojlund has scored eight major European goals for Manchester United – the only players to score more aged 21 or younger for the club are Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney (nine each).”

The Dane has not always been at his most free-flowing in domestic football, but he has always scored in Europe.

He found the net five times in the Champions League group stage last season and already has three goals to his name in the Europa League this season.

He was electric versus FK Bodø/Glimt last time out in the competition and will hope he can grab at least another two goals in the remaining three group games to break Rooney and Rashford’s impressive goalscoring feat.

The Dane certainly has his work cut out to catch either player’s total as Rashford has 26 European goals and Rooney 39.

United aiming for first win in Czechia

United don’t have the longest history when it comes to facing Czech sides.

“Manchester United have never won away against Czech opposition before, drawing two and losing one, with this their first such visit since a 0-0 draw at Sparta Prague in October 2004.”

United have also only played two sides from Czechia competitively before – Dukla Prague and Sparta Prague.

Whilst United are yet to win away, they have won every match at Old Trafford, with Ruud van Nistelrooy scoring all four goals in a 4-1 win versus Sparta Prague in 2004.

United aiming to end European away day woes

It is not only away to sides from Czechia United seem to have trouble with as they are searching for their first win away in Europe in far too long.

They have drawn both away games to Fenerbahce and Porto this season and failed to win any last year. In fact, their last away win was at Real Betis in March 2023, 21 months ago.

Curiously United have been in fine goalscoring form away from home, having scored three goals against Bayern Munich, FC Copenhagen, Galatasaray and FC Porto but failing to win any of the matches.

Whilst it is normal to have a stronger home record, especially in Europe, United will need to put this statistic right soon if they are to become serious contenders to win the competition.

Man Utd asking price for Rashford revealed as Amorim ‘wants to release three players’

              man-utd-asking-price-for-rashford-revealed-as-amorim-‘wants-to-release-three-players’

Man Utd have named their price for Marcus Rashford as the Red Devils consider selling their academy graduate in January, according to reports.

The Red Devils have made a terrrible start to the new season with Man Utd currently 13th in the Premier League table after winning just five of their opening 15 matches.

Erik ten Hag lost his job after nine games this season but new head coach Ruben Amorim has struggled to find consistency too, with Man Utd drawing one, winning one and losing two of his first four Premier League matches in charge.

There are issues all over the pitch for the Red Devils but one problem that has been particularly prevalent this season is their lack of goals.

Rashford has scored four goals this term, while Man Utd summer signing Joshua Zirkzee has three and Rasmus Hojlund has two.

Only Southampton, Ipswich Town, Crystal Palace and Everton have scored fewer goals than Man Utd in the Premier League this season and there are rumours that Amorim will look to bring in a new striker in January.

However, lack of funds could see the Red Devils forced to sell in order to make room for another face and reports earlier this week claim Man Utd are willing to listen to offers for Rashford.

Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg said on Tuesday that Man Utd are ‘open to top offers’ for Rashford in January and that the forward is ‘definitely not unsellable’ under Amorim.

While a report in Spain on Wednesday insisted that Amorim ‘wants to release three players’ at Man Utd with Rashford one of the stars he’s ‘forced’ to ‘pack their bags’ at Old Trafford.

And now the Daily Mail has revealed that price that Man Utd are looking for to sell Rashford with the Red Devils prepared to ‘consider offers of £40m’ for the England international.

However, due to the nature of the market, Man Utd ‘accept there are unlikely to be any bidders for the England forward in the January transfer window’.

With the Red Devils ‘under pressure to sell players to comply with profit and sustainability rules’, Rashford could be sold for a fraction of his value from a couple of years ago.

              The Daily Mail add:

‘It’s understood the 27-year-old’s asking price would have been as much as £100m when he scored 30 goals in Erik ten Hag’s first season at United. But Rashford’s loss of form and the contract he signed last year worth a prohibitive £325,000-a-week means that his value has more than halved.

‘Even then, United are not anticipating any offers for Rashford who has started the last two games on the bench ahead of Thursday evening’s Europa League clash with Viktoria Plzen.

‘Another option would be for United to sell either of their two crown jewels – Kobbie Mainoo or Alejandro Garnacho – but that is something the club want to avoid.’

The Red Devils were also coming off the back of an impressive 4-0 win at the weekend against Liverpool and were full of confidence entering the match.

Marc Skinner rung the changes and goalkeeper, Saf Middleton-Patel, made her debut for the club.

The home side started the brightest and had the ball in the back of the net after only nine minutes of play. A corner was whipped in by fullback Anna Sandberg and under seemingly little pressure, Newcastle’s Hannah Sophie Greenwood headed into her own net.

United soon thought they had scored a second when Emma Watson almost finished off a fine move, but her effort was cleared off the line.

It was the perfect start but Leigh Sports Village was stunned when Deanna Cooper charged through the United midfield and smashed the ball into the net just four minutes later to draw the Magpies level.

The home side threatened with a couple of efforts from Geyse before a wonderful run by Maya Le Tissier ended with a fine pass into Watson, who provided a smart finish to score her first goal for the club.

United continued to pepper the Magpies’ goal and a wonderful rabona effort from United’s Brazilian Geyse almost added to their total.

Despite the one-way traffic, United went into the half time break with just the one goal advantage and were soon made to pay for their wastefulness in the second half.

Just two minutes after the break, Gabby George mistimed a clearance and it allowed Amy Andrews time to collect the ball, run at the defence and fire another effort into the goal past the debutant Middleton-Patel to make it 2-2.

United continued to push and finally poked their noses in front once more when Melvine Malard slipped in Grace Clinton who rounded the keeper and had good shot cleared off the line, but Rachel Williams showed predatory instinct to gobble up the rebound and put the home side in front for a third time on the night.

Sandberg once again showed off her fine delivery when she floated in a fantastic free kick that was headed home by a grateful Gabby George on 83 minutes to grab the home side’s fourth of the night.

United added a fifth on 88 minutes when substitutes Leah Galton and Elisabeth Terland combined well on the break. Galton broke away from the Newcastle defence and squared the ball for the Norwegian, who made no mistake with the finish.

There was still time for Lois Joel’s long range effort to squeeze past United’s keeper in the 93rd minute and finally bring an end to the goal scoring feast that both sides served up.

United have now booked their place in the quarter finals of the league cup and will hope that this competition will be the second they win in their history after last season’s FA Cup triumph.

The Women will next be in action when they travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon at 2pm UK time, in what will be their final match before the winter break.

Football agent Vincenzo Morabito has poured cold water on suggestions that Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee could be on his way to Napoli.

Zirkzee only signed for United in the summer from Bologna, in a deal worth around £36.5m.

He enjoyed a fairytale start to life in England, scoring a last-minute winning goal on the opening day of the Premier League season, against Marco Silva’s Fulham.

However, it went downhill from there as Zirkzee managed to only add two more goals to his account in his subsequent 20 appearances – both of these goals were notched against Everton earlier this month.

Amidst suggestions that there could be a squad overhaul in the upcoming transfer windows, it has been suggested that Zirkzee is not entirely safe, even as he continues to be linked with a return to Serie A.

In addition to being mentioned to be on Juventus’ radar, a recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Napoli boss Antonio Conte is an admirer of the player.

It was stated that Cone has already given the “green light” to the club’s hierarchy to pursue Zirkzee ahead of the January transfer window.

However, it seems the Partenopei are set to be disappointed if comments made by football agent Vincenzo Morabito are anything to go by.

Addressing the Zirkzee to Napoli rumours, Morabito said [via GIVEMESPORT], “I can exclude a transfer of Zirkzee to Napoli in January. Players at this level hardly move when the league is underway.”

“The Dutchman has just arrived at United and his difficulties in tactical adaptation are normal at this stage. In Italian football, when a player isn’t used to certain game systems, it is normal that he may encounter some initial difficulties.”

“As for Zirkzee, Manchester United have no intention of selling him, not even on loan.”

“They would still have to replace him, and this would involve a further investment to replace him in the squad.”

Zirkzee and his teammates are back in Europa League action on Thursday when they face Viktoria Plzeňa at Doosan Arena.

United set asking price for Marcus Rashford, fans will be shocked – report

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to accept as little as £40milllion to permanently part ways with Marcus Rashford.

On Tuesday, it emerged that United are willing to offload Rashford, either in the January transfer window or during the summer.

The report stated that United are concerned about Rashford’s lifestyle off the pitch. It’s also understood that there are fears that football is no longer the England international’s primary priority, amidst a number of distractions preventing him from nailing down a consistent run of performances and results.

Rashford managed only eight goals across all competitions last season. While he has already scored seven in the 2024/25 campaign, it has been a patchy period for the forward, who has yet to cement himself as a regular starter under new manager Ruben Amorim.

United lack the funds for significant spending in January unless they generate revenue through player sales. As a homegrown talent, Rashford is an obvious candidate, as his transfer would result in pure profit on the club’s financial records.

Journalist Graeme Bailey relayed that Rashford and his representatives have yet to demonstrate a willingness to depart Old Trafford.

Bailey also insisted that United have not held discussions about selling Rashford.

However, rumours persist that the 27-year-old could be on his way out of the club. Now, The Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler reveals that United are ready to listen to offers for Rashfird, starting at the £40m mark.

According to Wheeler, “Manchester United would consider offers of £40milllion for Marcus Rashford but accept there are unlikely to be any bidders for the England forward in the January transfer window, Mail Sport understands.”

“It’s understood the 27-year-old’s asking price would have been as much as £100m when he scored 30 goals in Erik ten Hag’s first season at United. But Rashford’s loss of form and the contract he signed last year worth a prohibitive £325,000-a-week means that his value has more than halved.”

“Even then, United are not anticipating any offers for Rashford who has started the last two games on the bench ahead of Thursday evening’s Europa League clash with Viktoria Plzen.”

Wheeler explains that another option for United is to sell either Kobbie Mainoo or Alejandro Garnacho, but the Red Devils are keen to avoid this outcome.

The other players United want to keep are Leny Yoro, Amad Diallo, Matthijs de Ligt, Bruno Fernandes, Noussair Mazraoui and Manuel Ugarte.

United seal incredible deal for $6m wonderkid, will “officially” sign in June – reports

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal with Cerro Porteño for 17 year old left back Diego León.

With injuries to Luke Shaw and fitness concerns over Tyrell Malacia, the left back position has become a major priority at the club.

Under Ineos, signing up-and-coming teenagers has become a key transfer strategy as Leny Yoro, Chido Obi-Martin and Sékou Koné have all been signed this year.

It was reported this morning that United were in talks to sign Paraguayan left back Diego Leon with Jason Wilcox leading the negotiations.

Fabrizio Romano later got in on the act, claiming that United were in “active talks” for the teenager with a fee of around $4 million being discussed.

Journalist Pedro Torres, who works for Paraguayan sports network Tigo Sports, posted on X that the deal has since moved significantly forward as “the groundwork for the deal has been laid and Diego León, a 17-year-old Paraguayan, will join Manchester United in England.”

The journalist has also provided an update to when the exciting youngster will likely join his soon-to-be new teammates.

“He will remain in Paraguay until June 2025, after which he will join his new team.”

ESPN journalist Roberto Rojas backed up the story and reported that he can “confirm left-back Diego León will officially join Manchester United in June 2025, once he turns 18 for a transfer fee of around $6 million.”

The signing could be the first to take place in the Ruben Amorim era as he fits the manager’s vision of a modern fullback who has impressive physique and energy to burn.

“The Paraguayan is a physical specimen, lightning quick and extremely aggressive in duels” and he “is widely regarded as one of the best U18 South American talents.”

Leon will also make history as he will become the first Paraguayan to play for the club.
