Ian Wright thinks Harry Maguire is now a shoo-in for Thomas Tuchel’s final World Cup squad, which is set to be announced towards the end of the month. The revitalised centre-half is one of a handful of Manchester United stars in line to represent England this summer, along with Kobbie Mainoo, Marcus Rashford and, potentially, Luke Shaw.DOWNLOAD THE OFFICIAL STRETTY NEWS APP FOR ALL THE LATEST UPDATES & BREAKING NEWS – STRAIGHT TO YOUR PHONE! Manchester United’s move for standout AFC Bournemouth midfield star Alex Scott may be under threat, especially in light of what the Cherries are planning. Indeed, it is football’s worst‑kept secret that United plan to overhaul their midfield this summer. To that end, INEOS are expected to make a few midfield signings to fill the void left by Casemiro and exit‑linked Manuel Ugarte, as well as to improve the quality of the team’s engine room. Already, some brilliant midfielders have been linked, and Bournemouth’s Scott is one of them. The 22‑year‑old, whom Pep Guardiola once dubbed “unbelievable”, has been a massive hit for the Cherries. In particular, he has caught the eye for his aggressive ball‑carrying, driving through pressure and across the pitch, whilst adding a real presence in and around the box. Out of possession, he brings intensity, is active defensively, covers ground, and contributes in duels, which adds real balance to his profile. Clearly, he is exactly the athletic, front‑footed midfielder the 20-time English champions are crying out for. Now, as the 2025‑26 season nears its end and attention turns to bringing Scott on board, an interesting update has emerged. Bournemouth trying their best to prevent Alex Scott leaving According to The BBC, the south coast Premier League outfit are trying to resist a potential Scott exit. The reputable UK source reveals that “efforts are underway to renew midfielder Alex Scott’s contract following his recent England call‑up.” The last 11 Premier League games of 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗫 𝗦𝗖𝗢𝗧𝗧 (𝟮𝟮). Scott could yet snub talks over a new deal, a move that would force the Cherries to consider offers for his services, should tempting ones arrive. Ultimately, with a genuine desire to rebuild their midfield and Champions League football back at Old Trafford, surely the prospect of joining United ought to appeal to an ambitious Premier League star like Scott. Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood ended his recent barren run for Marseille by scoring the only goal in the 1-0 win over Le Havre this weekend. After scoring from the spot, the Englishman shared a symbolic handshake with manager Habib Beye, dispelling any rumours of a possible rift between the two. Greenwood has gone from strength to strength since completing a permanent move to Ligue 1 in 2024, but his previous goal this season had come at the beginning of March. There have been suggestions that all is not well behind the scenes at the Stade Velodrome in recent weeks, adding to speculation regarding the player’s contract. Previous reports have suggested that the player was an isolated figure behind the scenes and that the French club were already considering his exit this summer. A recent update suggested that Greenwood’s relationship with Beye had deteriorated significantly in recent days, but a return to the Premier League was ruled out. The player has now provided an update on his situation. Greenwood pledges loyalty to Marseille Speaking after the game to Ligue1+, as cited by GOAL, Greenwood cleared the air regarding his relationship with Beye. He said: “We gave it our all today. The last few weeks haven’t been good. There’s a lot of talk in the media, but Habib is a good guy. I believe in him, and he believes in me. I had a minor injury against Lille. Maybe I came back a little too soon. Today I felt 100%.” The Englishman went on to state that he is enjoying the experience in France, adding: “The fans are amazing. It’s an important end to the season with a big challenge against a very good team. We’re going to fight until the end.” United reportedly have a 50% sell-on option on their former academy graduate’s contract. His potential exit this summer, as such, could be of interest to INEOS, who are preparing to make further investments in the squad. Beye thanks Greenwood Recent reports have suggested that Beye had halted training due to Greenwood’s attitude, but the Marseille manager has now rubbished those talks. Speaking after the game, Beye said: “There’s nothing to explain… The image is beautiful because it’s perhaps necessary on Mason’s part with everything that’s been said…” “When I see the lies told about me and some of my players, when I hear that I had a clash, that I stopped training because of Mason Greenwood, that’s what saddens me today in this profession, where nothing is verified anymore. It’s a race to spread misinformation and lies. What Mason did was symbolic, I thank him for that, he didn’t have to do it.” Beye went on to insist he has a great relationship with Greenwood, adding: “He’s someone I have a very, very good relationship with, whom I respect enormously as a player. Tonight he gave his all, he’s rewarded, the team is rewarded, and that’s the most important thing.” Greenwood has scored 26 goals and set up 10 more in 44 appearances in all competitions this season for Marseille. He is under contract until 2029. While the Englishman failed to fulfill his promise at the Theatre of Dreams, he could end up making a significant contribution to the Red Devils’ summer budget. Fabrizio Romano confirms astronomical fee United set to bank “next week” as first summer exit is confirmed

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed how much Manchester United are poised to rake in from permanently parting ways with Rasmus Hojlund. Imminent exit Hojlund has enjoyed a slight uptick in fortunes since departing United for Napoli on a season-long loan last summer. At United, he struggled to justify the £72m fee that United forked out to secure his services from Atalanta. His four Premier League goals last season proved to be the final nail in the coffin, prompting United to offload him against his wishes. The Dane has notched 10 goals and provided an additional four assists for Napoli in 30 Serie A appearances this season. His last league goal came in March against Lecce, but this has done little to change Napoli’s mind. The Partenopei are still expected to exercise their obligation to sign him on a permanent basis. This obligation is dependent on Gli Azzuri securing Champions League football. However, as recently as last week, sporting director Giovanni Manna confirmed that Hojlund is in their plans and they will sign him irrespective of whether or not they are in the Champions League. As it stands, Hojlund is all but guaranteed to be a Napoli player moving forward and now, Fabrizio Romano has shed more light on the financials of the deal, revealing the total package United are set to receive. Hojlund update Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said, “United could get the final green light, the official approval to receive €44m, a total package of €50m, for Rasmus Hojlund.” “Because if Napoli get official qualification for Champions League football on Monday, the obligation to buy for Hojlund will be activated.” “So Manchester United are set to receive €44m on top of the €6m they already received last year in August 2025 from Napoli for the loan deal.” The Italian journalist continued, “The €50m package is set to be activated next week for Hojlund. He will also have a release clause in his contract from June 2027, not this summer, but from next summer, valid for €85m.” “So that is the story on Hojlund, and obviously it is extra money for Manchester United. That is an important topic.” Meanwhile, United are next in action on Sunday when they welcome Nottingham Forest to Old Trafford. Manchester United loanee voted club’s best player following impressive string of performances

Although the season ended with Rotherham United being relegated from League One, Manchester United loanee Dan Gore has received plaudits for his consistently impressive performances. The 21-year-old English midfielder came through the ranks at Carrington alongside Kobbie Mainoo, with the pair playing a vital role in securing the 2022 FA Youth Cup. In the years since, Gore has tried to kick on and advance his career with a series of loan moves, many of which have not turned out the way either the player or club would have hoped. A disappointing few seasons After impressing Erik ten Hag, Gore was handed his debut in September 2023, playing thirty minutes against Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup. Later that season, he made his Premier League debut, coming on in the final minute of a victory against Aston Villa. Ready for more regular football, the Prestwich native headed out on loan to Port Vale for the second half of the 2023/24 season. He picked up a quad injury on his debut for the club that prematurely ended his season, however. Having required surgery, the quad injury kept him out of action all summer, blocking him from making a season-long loan move. Instead, he headed out during the winter transfer window, arriving at Rotherham United for a six-month loan spell. Unfortunately, Gore succumbed to another series of injuries, limiting him to just three League One appearances before the end of the season. Determined to make an impression Keen to put those injury-plagued seasons behind him, Gore headed back to Rotherham last summer on a season-long loan. Thankfully, the talented midfielder’s season was not disrupted by injury, allowing him to showcase his abilities. He made forty-two appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring once and registering three assists. A long run in the first team allowed him to showcase his talents, earning the respect and admiration of the Rotherham United faithful. These performances impressed so much, in fact, that local outlet the Rotherham Advertiser have marked Gore as the club’s top performer across the entire season. Gore received a rating of 8/10, with the report going on to say: “If he had a bad game, I can’t remember it. Had the drive to match his skill. Gave no quarter and asked no quarter all season. A hard, uncompromising competitor brimming with energy, enterprise and aggression.” Although the season ended with a heart-breaking relegation from League One, the exciting young talent should be able to take some solace in the solid, consistent performances he delivered throughout the entire season. Manchester United are running out of time to agree a deal for Sedi Kinteh after FC Koln reportedly jumped the growing queue for the Tromso IL starlet. Gambian Gem Kinteh, 19, is emerging as one of the most in-demand defensive prospects in Europe, with a host of clubs across the continent chasing his signature, including United. The Gambia international combines outstanding physical qualities and an ‘old school’ approach to defending with the ability to play out from the back. Speed is his most eye-catching trait, however, clocking in at just over 37km/h. This ranks him right alongside the Premier League’s quickest player, Tottenham Hotspur’s Micky van de Ven. Were Kinteh to arrive at Old Trafford this summer, he would become the fastest member of the dressing room — a title currently held by Bryan Mbeumo, who recorded a top speed of 36.4km/h earlier in the campaign. The increased focus on high lines in modern football — designed to condense the pitch and suffocate the opposition — requires mobility to be as important a tool in a defender’s arsenal as any other. It’s little surprise Manchester City have become so much more defensively fragile since Kyle Walker departed the Etihad after his lightning fast legs finally gave out. Or why Liverpool have suffered as Virgil van Dijk has suffered a similar fate. Despite possessing an imposing 6’1 frame, Kinteh maintains a level of speed usually reserved for tricky wingers. He also possesses a wand of a left foot — a rarity for a centre-back — and is capable of playing at fullback. United are understood to see the Gambian as a “cheap high-upside option” in defence who can plug multiple gaps in the squad. He will have little trouble adapting to the rigours of Premier League football, nor will he be perturbed by a lack of first-team minutes. FC Koln strike first FC Koln are also firm admirers of Kinteh, however, with the Bundesliga side now ready to accelerate ahead of United in the race. German football expert Philipp Hinze reveals they have struck a “verbal agreement” with Kinteh. And while there is “no final breakthrough” on a fee, talks are “ongoing” between the two clubs. 🔴 Exklusiv: Der 1. Noch kein Done… https://t.co/OTthWxmw41 pic.twitter.com/IGeA1ZFAVO — Philipp Hinze (@philipphinze24) May 11, 2026 Translated Tweet: “Exclusive: 1. FC Köln has reached a verbal agreement with Abubacarr Sedi Kinteh. No final breakthrough at club level between FC Köln and Tromsø yet. Talks are ongoing. Kinteh has several offers, including some from England. Köln is applying pressure. No deal is done yet. More details to follow in the transfer update.” The Sky Sports Germany reporter contends the youngster has “several offers” to contend with, including ones from English teams, though he does not specifically mention United. Chelsea are also understood to be interested, though United will be hoping their excellent recruitment network in Norway can help give them an advantage over their rivals. Final Thoughts Despite Harry Maguire signing a contract extension last month, there is still a drive at Old Trafford to sign a new centre-back this summer. Kinteh offers an affordable option — worth around £4.3m — with enormous potential and the perfect physical profile for the Premier League. The fact that he can also offer depth to Luke Shaw is another major plus. INEOS will have to move quickly and decisively to fend off FC Koln, and potentially other top clubs in England, to convince the Gambian speedster his future lies in M16. United line up swoop for electric 20-yo Brazilian attacker running riot in his league – report

Manchester United are reportedly keeping tabs on Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Kaua Elias ahead of the summer transfer window. Attacking reinforcements While bolstering the midfield is believed to be United’s top priority heading into the window, other positions could also come into play. The attacking department in particular is an area of the pitch that United may be forced to strengthen. Loanees Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are expected to permanently part ways with the club at the end of the 2025/26 campaign. Rashford is likely to join Barcelona on a permanent basis, while Sancho’s United contract runs out. United have the option of extending Sancho’s stay by an additional 12 months but they have no desire to take it up and would rather let him leave as a free agent. Then there is the uncertainty surrounding Joshua Zirkzee’s future at the club. The Dutchman has struggled for minutes this term under both Ruben Amorim and interim boss Michael Carrick. In Benjamin Sesko’s absence last weekend, Zirkzee was given the nod to start against Sunderland but he failed to justify his selection. He was poor as the two sides played out a goalless stalemate at the Stadium of Light. A return to Italy has been mooted for Zirkzee, with the likes of AC Milan and Juventus thought to be keen on adding the Dutchman to their ranks. To ensure United are not left light in forward areas, they may need to dip into the market and according to Centredevils, Elias has popped up on their radar. Elias transfer news It’s said, “CentreDevils can exclusively reveal that Shakhtar Donetsk striker Kaua Elias has been scouted by Manchester United.” “The Brazilian, who joined Shakhtar last season, is seen by many as a future wonderkid as he’s shone for the national team at youth level.” “Due to that, many English Premier League clubs have been looking at the striker and United are one of them.” Centredevils claim that there is currently little to suggest that a move is on the brink of happening, but Zirkzee’s exit could accelerate things. A versatile player capable of operating as a striker, winger, or second striker, Elias has recorded 11 goals and seven assists for Shakhtar across all competitions this season. The 20-year-old has turned heads with his combination of technical ability and physical presence. The Brazilian possesses outstanding close ball control and acceleration, which allow him to routinely beat opposing defenders. Meanwhile, United are next in action on Sunday when they host Nottingham Forest in their final home game of the season. Owen Hargreaves picks United’s player of the season, it’s not Bruno Fernandes

Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves has made a stunning claim about goalkeeper Senne Lammens, following his performance during last weekend’s Sunderland draw. Lammens’ heroics Lammens was superb despite United producing a drab performance in their goalless stalemate with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland began as the far superior side, forcing Lammens into action almost immediately as he got down well to deny Noah Sadiki’s effort. The hosts kept pushing, dominating the duels and retaining possession better as United struggled to get into the game. In the second half, Lammens again had to produce an excellent save to deny Brian Brobbey, who seemed sure to open the scoring. United had to wait until the 93rd minute to register their first shot on target. After the final whistle, Carrick insisted that the point was a good one for United at hostile grounds. In his press conference, the United head coach strongly rejected suggestions that his players lacked the expected commitment. Lammens made four saves from inside the box and prevented 2.05 goals vs. Sunderland. Without him, United would have almost certainly lost the game. Speaking on TNT Sports, Hargreaves named the Belgian shot-stopper the player of the season. Senne Lammens prevented 2.05 goals vs. Sunderland, making 4 saves from shots taken inside the box. Not a lot so he’s been value for money.” Hargreaves added, “I think United looked at it and thought,’ What gets us up the table and gets us into the Champions League places?’ It’s not a new midfield player or a goalkeeper, it’s goals.” “So they added Cunha and Mbeumo, guys with Premier League experience who can get you 20-odd goals and United are third right now so I think that’s been proven correct.” “But I do think if they hadn’t have sorted the goalkeeper out, they wouldn’t be in the top-four.” United are next in action on Sunday when they welcome Nottingham Forest to Old Trafford in their final home game of the Premier League campaign. “A very good season for me…”: United star explains why he is “proud” of his campaign so far

Senne Lammens played a starring role in Manchester United’s 0-0 Premier League draw against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, 9 May. The Red Devils were far from their best against the Black Cats, who had a few good chances to pick up a win. However, the Belgian custodian refused to be beaten and dealt with everything the home side threw at him, ultimately helping to secure a vital point. With Aston Villa and Liverpool also held to draws over the weekend, United remain six points clear in third place with two games left this season. Caretaker manager Michael Carrick has revived the club’s fortunes since taking over as former head coach Ruben Amorim’s replacement in January. The Red Devils’ decision to invest over £200 million in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Lammens has already paid dividends. While the three forwards have scored 31 goals between them so far and made the headlines, one could argue that the Belgian goalkeeper has been equally important to the English giants this season. Lammens’ 2025/26 campaign Lammens arrived at the Theatre of Dreams from Royal Antwerp as a relatively unknown figure on the final day of the summer transfer window. United put their trust in the Belgian to solve an issue that had plagued the team for the past couple of seasons. The 23 year old was handed his debut against Sunderland in October last year and he marked the occasion by keeping a clean sheet. It was also the Red Devils’ first clean sheet of the campaign, and the player has not looked back since. Lammens has started every game so far, registering seven clean sheets in 31 appearances for the English giants. The Belgian already looks like an upgrade on the error-prone Andre Onana, who is out on loan at Trabzonspor and expected to leave permanently this summer. Lammens has now reflected on his time with the Red Devils. Lammens proud of his debut season Speaking to The National after Saturday’s draw, Lammens said that he was proud of his debut campaign at the Theatre of Dreams. He said: “I think I can be proud of the season I’ve been having. I kind of had the perfect opportunity and the perfect time to come into the team and to grow with the team.” “I think I had a lot of things to learn and still have a lot of things to learn, but in this squad, with this opportunity, I also get the opportunity to show myself and to help the team out. So yeah, it’s been a very good season for me personally.” “As a team as well, we’ve been growing and now it’s the next step. Next season is going to be a big one, so everyone’s going to step up again. Because this season was OK, but it’s not our end goal, so we have to keep building on this and try to get better.” Final Thoughts Lammens’ recent performances have already earned him praise from legendary United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar. “That would be special”: Overjoyed Rashford basks in La Liga success as he makes fresh statement on his future

Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford couldn’t contain his joy as he spoke out on winning La Liga after Sunday’s victory over Real Madrid in El Clásico. La Liga triumph Rashford scored a stunning free-kick in the first half to set Barcelona on their way, as they beat bitter rivals Real Madrid 2-0 at Camp Nou. Ferran Torres scored the other goal as the Blaugrana sealed their 29th La Liga title with three games remaining of the season. After securing consecutive La Liga crowns, Barcelona now sit seven titles behind all-time leaders Madrid. The Blaugrana have gone on an 11-game winning run in the top flight to secure the title and open a 14-point gap between themselves and Los Blancos. Having joined Barcelona on loan from United last summer, Rashford has enjoyed a superb year. His excellent finish against Madrid marked his eighth league goal of the campaign. He boasts an impressive 14 goals and as many assists across all competitions. Now that the league is secured, Barcelona must clarify whether they intend to keep the forward. Barcelona retain the option to make his stay permanent for £26m. But they have been dithering, as they look to get him on another loan deal or drive the price down. United have maintained that there is no room for renegotiating. Speaking to reporters after the final whistle, Rashford reiterated his desire to remain with Barcelona. Rashford’s remarks The Carrington academy graduate told ESPN, “This is the perfect way I want it to end. I’m very happy, I just want to enjoy today.” “I live in the moment. At the end of the season we will see. I came here to win and we do this, so I’m very happy. It’s an incredible feeling.” “The feeling is amazing. It’s been a long season with ups and downs, but I think we deserved to win [LaLiga].” He said about his free-kick finish, “I wasn’t going to shoot. When I put the ball down, I didn’t see the angle, I didn’t feel confident it would be a goal. I was going to cross. But everyone told me to shoot, so I hyped myself up a bit. It was good I shot in the end; it was a good goal.” Rashford replied when asked about his future, “I don’t know. I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay. We will see.” “I came here to win. I want to win as many things as I can. This is one more to add to this. This is a wonderful team, they’re going to win so much in the future; to be a part of that would be special.” Rashford’s United contract runs until 2028.
