A left‑winger signing is firmly on Manchester United’s agenda this summer. INEOS are keen to bring on board a natural left‑winger, a profile which this United squad is currently missing. With all their natural left‑wingers having departed, the Red Devils have had to deploy Matheus Cunha in that role. Although the Brazilian has been fantastic there, the 20‑time English champions know they must still secure a natural option. Ander Barrenetxea linked Some brilliant wingers have been linked, and recently, The Peoples Person relayed reports of United eyeing Real Sociedad’s Ander Barrenetxea. United once dreamed of landing Antoine Griezmann, and now they have the opportunity to secure their own version of the Atlético Madrid legend. Much like Griezmann, Barrenetxea came through the San Sebastián footballing system, and the similarities do not end there. Both possess intelligent movement, technical quality, and the ability to influence games both creatively and in front of goal. Consequently, many have described the 24‑year‑old as a younger Griezmann. With every motivation for INEOS to move for the La Real star, however, a concerning report has now surfaced. Villa trying to derail Man United’s move for their own Griezmann According to Teamtalk, the 20‑time English champions face serious competition in their pursuit of the winger. They report: “Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is pushing for the club to explore a move for Real Sociedad star Ander Barrenetxea, with sources telling TEAMtalk that the Spanish forward has emerged as one of Villa’s standout attacking options ahead of the summer transfer window. “Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have all scouted Barrenetxea extensively this year and have been left hugely impressed by his performances in Spain.” As a result, Aston Villa may be pushing hard to win this race, but that move will not be straightforward. The Old Trafford faithful will be hoping that news of Villa pressing hard for the Spaniard prompts INEOS into action, and that United chiefs move quickly to trump their Premier League rivals and land their own Griezmann. That said, Barrenetxea has a £65.5 million release clause. Whether that proves to be the magic number for his exit, with Real Sociedad set to hold firm on that figure, per Teamtalk, remains to be seen. PL refereeing body makes frank admission about Cunha’s controversial goal in United’s win vs. Forest – Sky

The PGMO has delivered its verdict on Matheus Cunha’s controversial goal during Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon. Controversy United secured third place as they got the better of Forest in a rollercoaster game at Old Trafford. Luke Shaw opened the scoring inside five minutes with a well-taken finish. Morato drew Forest level just before the break, heading home a sublime delivery from Elliot Anderson. But United responded almost immediately through Cunha, who expertly tucked the ball into the bottom corner after Bryan Mbeumo’s blocked shot fell kindly into his path. It appeared as if the ball had struck Mbeumo on the arm in the build-up to the goal. Referee Michael Salisbury decided to overrule VAR, having been sent to the pitch-side monitor to review the incident. United doubled their advantage in the 75th minute when Mbeumo turned in a cross from Bruno Fernandes. The assist marked Fernandes’ 20th this season, which places him on par with Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry for the all-time Premier League record. Morgan Gibbs-White grabbed a second for Forest but United were well worth the three points on home grounds. The Premier League, via their Match Centre account on X, explained the decision to award the goal by saying the handball was accidental. But PGMO have reportedly told both Forest and United that the goal should have been ruled out. PGMO’s admission Sky Sports reveal, “PGMO chief refereeing officer Howard Webb spoke to Forest and Man Utd on Monday to acknowledge the misjudgement.” “The PGMO regularly engages with clubs to maintain positive dialogue around refereeing matters. English football tends to operate a more lenient approach to the handball rule after feedback from clubs, players, managers and fans.” “However, the decision expected was to deem Mbeumo’s contact as handball, hence the acknowledgement by the PGMO.” Meanwhile, Michael Carrick and his players are next in action on Sunday when they go away to Brighton & Hove Albion in their final game of the 2025/26 season. United starlet ditches England to play for international side in the football wilderness – report
Manchester United starlet Amir Ibragimov has reportedly reached a decision regarding which country to represent between England and Russia. Call-up A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Ibragimov, considered one of the best and brightest talents currently in the club’s youth ranks, had been selected by Russia for their forthcoming games against Egypt, Burkina Faso and Trinidad and Tobago. Ibragimov is eligible to line up for both England and Russia, but had yet to make a decision on his international future. The forward has already featured for England at Under-15 and Under-16 levels. Although Russia had already confirmed the player’s call-up on social media, the report claimed Ibragimov was weighing up his international future, and that United had not yet been informed. Now, Steven Railston of the Manchester Evening News has seemingly revealed that Ibragimov is set to pledge his allegiance to Russia. Ibragimov decision Railston wrote on X, “Amir Ibragimov has decided to join up with Russia’s senior national team for their upcoming games.” “Big opportunity for the United academy midfielder.” Amir Ibragimov has decided to join up with Russia’s senior national team for their upcoming games. United set to act as spoiler-in-chief against one PL club’s European dreams, with panic already gripping the club

In United’s last home game on Sunday, they beat Nottingham Forest 3-2. It was a deserved victory that saw Bruno Fernandes equal the record for 20 assists in a season, and provided the perfect Old Trafford send-off for Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia. Man United vs Brighton All attention now turns to United’s trip to the American Express Stadium to take on Brighton & Hove Albion in what will be the final fixture of the season. The Seagulls have always posed something of a challenge for the Red Devils. In their last five meetings across all competitions, United have won only twice, with Brighton taking three of those contests. It was Brighton who knocked United out of the FA Cup back in early January; perhaps they were avenging that 4-2 defeat they suffered at Old Trafford in late October. This Sunday, though, will be a whole new game. United will be keen to finish on a high, and Michael Carrick will be eager to sign off with his twelfth win in 17 games this season. Lewis Dunk sends Man United a message As keen as United are to end on a high, Brighton are taking this match extremely seriously, and Carrick’s side should be braced for a battle. Last weekend, the Seagulls were stunned by Leeds United in a narrow 1-0 defeat, a result that left their hopes of European football hanging in the balance. Should they lose to United and both Brentford and Sunderland win, Brighton could finish ninth and miss out on the European spots altogether. Dunk, speaking to the Sussex Express after the weekend’s defeat, admitted: “We’ve got to dust ourselves off and pick ourselves up and have a good week’s training. We’ve got a massive last game of the season. “If you’d have offered me it at the start of the season, I’d have snapped your hand off. “We have to have a good week’s training and look forward. “There’s one massive game. It’s a cup final for us to reach Europe. Let’s work hard and try and do it.” Man United better bring their A-game to the Amex United’s visit to the Amex will therefore be far from straightforward. They will need to bring their A-game if they are to sign off with a fairytale ending to the season. With European football secured and a third-place finish guaranteed, there is a danger the team could drop their guard, but they cannot afford to do so. A win, coupled with Fernandes setting a new assists record, could be the perfect way to close the curtain on what has been a rollercoaster 2025-26 campaign. Carrick will have told INEOS he needs “three big signings” to launch PL title charge, ex-United coach claims

Former Manchester United assistant coach Rene Meulensteen has revealed he always knew Michael Carrick had the ability to become a manager – and has offered a prediction for what the Englishman will expect from his side next season. Carrick’s at the Wheel After a superb spell as interim boss, which would have defied even INEOS’s most optimistic predictions, Manchester United’s hierarchy have decided to stick with Carrick as their permanent head coach. Since the Wallsend native took charge in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s dismissal in January, no other side has picked up more points in the Premier League. Eleven wins, three draws and two losses is title-winning form. But the improvements on the pitch have been matched off it. There is a much greater sense of camaraderie amongst the squad and staff, with players no longer wary of their manager criticising them in public. Press conferences have transitioned from prime time box office under Amorim to more reserved and cordial affairs under Carrick. The former England international has even found time to regularly support the academy sides – a crucial foundation of Manchester United’s identity which Amorim had little appreciation for. His son, Jacey, plays for the under-16s side and he has been an attendee long before taking the reins at Old Trafford. Carrick has put pen to paper on a two-year plus one deal, with assistant coach Steve Holland also signing the same contract. And Meulensteen, Sir Alex Ferguson’s right-hand man from 2008 until 2013, is adamant Carrick will have ambitions of matching the success he enjoyed as a player. “I can challenge for the title” Speaking to TEAMtalk, Meulensteen stressed that the expectation on Carrick will be success, as that is the baseline for the Red Devils. “He will be expected to win, or at the very least challenge for the Premier League title because that’s what any manager needs to do when they go to Manchester United,” Meulensteen said. “You are there to win trophies, and you are there to challenge for the Premier League. Ignore the fact that United has been mismanaged over a number of years. Yes, there have been a few little trophies down recent years, but not of the calibre that you expect United to win. And that is exactly what the expectation will now be. “Michael will know this, but I can tell you that is exactly the expectation that Michael would have anyway.” The 62-year-old coach, who won eight major trophies with Manchester United, including four Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008, believes Carrick will have stressed the importance of “big signings” to success next year. “Michael’s response possibly would be okay, I’m happy to do that, but I need X, Y and Z to make this happen – three big signings who can really deliver. If you do that, I’m sure that I can challenge for the title next year, because that’s why I’m here. That’s why I’m carrying on. “Michael will also know he needs the players to be doing well in the Champions League and compete on other trophy fronts as well. He will want to go full out and stay as long as he can in all competitions and then possibly win them. That’s probably his attitude, and it’s the right one as well.” A Manager in the Making When asked if Meulensteen saw “management material” in Carrick as a player, the Dutchman is adamant he “always felt” it was a path the 44-year-old would take. “Well, when you work with players, and obviously I work with Michael, sometimes you think to yourself, what do you think he’s going to do after football? You know, will he stay in the game, or does he do something different, or does he go into coaching, or go into the media or punditry? “Michael was, I’ve always felt, that he could end up staying in football in whatever capacity, because he was always a keen observer of what we did in training. “You know, I’m sure of this, though you would possibly have to ask him himself, that he would always have seen himself as having the skills to become a manager. He’s that type of player – and very social with it as well. “He was also the type of player that would make notes at training, and you could foresee them destined for big things after retirement.” Final Thoughts The reaction to Carrick’s appointment has been marred by the expected parallels with the decision to give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the job full-time after a successful caretaker spell. But the Englishman is not the Norwegian, nor has Manchester United’s form imploded towards the end of the season in the way it did under Solskjaer. The fact that one of Carrick’s former mentors in Meulensteen predicted he would become a manager long before his playing career had come to an end only strengthens his case as an exciting young coach with his best years ahead of him. United steal march on Chelsea in race to land £52m sniper, INEOS ready to bid for “high-priority target” – report

Manchester United believe they hold a trump card over Chelsea in the red-hot race to sign Borussia Dortmund speedster Karim Adeyemi, according to the latest report. Summer Exit Looms Despite being highly rated at the Signal Iduna Park, Borussia Dortmund are prepared to sanction Adeyemi‘s sale this summer as his contract expires next year. There have also been reports of clashes with Die Schwarzgelben’s coaching staff, with the 24-year-old forward said to be pushing for an exit. He is now represented by Jorge Mendes, a choice players generally only make when they are ready to seal a big-money move to a top European club. The Portuguese super-agent has an excellent working relationship with United, having been a driving force behind the captures of Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte in the 2024 summer window. United have been strongly linked with a move for the German international as INEOS look to reinforce their forward line – but they are not alone in their admiration. Eyed by Europe’s Elite Premier League rivals Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all understood to be keeping a close eye on the situation, while Ligue 1 giant Paris Saint-Germain are another club on the hunt. TEAMtalk claims it is Chelsea who offer the strongest competition to United, however, with the Blues already having “made contact with Adeyemi’s representatives over the last year, viewing him as a dynamic addition to bolster their attacking options under new boss Xabi Alonso.” But the report states United consider themselves a “strong candidate for the winger” as qualification for next season’s Champions League is seen as a key advantage they have over Chelsea. “Man Utd see the former Red Bull Salzburg star as a high-priority target to inject speed and directness into their forward line. They believe Champions League qualification makes them a strong candidate for the winger.” Adeyemi is described as having a “preference for a move to England”, pouring further fuel on the fire of a switch to the Premier League this summer. A report relayed by The Peoples Person even claimed United are ready to submit an opening bid once the window opens, with negotiations expected to start around the €60 million mark (£52m). Final Thoughts United are interested in signing a left-winger to help bring more balance to their forward line, as well as a centre-forward to ease the burden on Benjamin Sesko – with the misfiring Joshua Zirkzee set to be sold to fund this. One of Adeyemi’s most desirable traits is his versatility, as he is capable of playing on either wing or through the middle, which makes him an enticing offensive weapon. He also possesses explosive pace, clocking in as one of the fastest players in Bundesliga history. A record of 12 goal contributions in the Bundesliga this season, despite struggles on and off the pitch, and 14 last year show he is a difference maker in the final third. But United have been burned in the past by expensive imports from Borussia Dortmund, while problems with Dortmund’s coaches will be a major red flag for INEOS. United’s unsung hero has been backbone of transformation under Carrick, his World Cup dream is now alive – opinion

Many Manchester United players have enjoyed standout campaigns this season, particularly since Michael Carrick took charge of the club in January, but perhaps no player has surprised United fans more than Luke Shaw. The England international is the only player to have started every Premier League game for the Red Devils this season. The left back is United’s longest-serving player, having signed for the club from Southampton all the way back in 2014. In fact, he has been at the club for such a long time that he has shared a pitch with head coach Michael Carrick. Across over a decade with the club, Shaw has made over 300 appearances with the club, registering an impressive 35 goal involvements. There were doubts over Shaw’s future at the club last summer, with the player struggling to string together consistent appearances due to a number of injuries that threatened to derail his career. A Tremendous Servant It’s impossible to say Shaw has not been a successful signing for United, having cost just £30 million when he joined the Red Devils from Southampton. In fact, in some seasons with the club he displayed form and consistency that put him in contention to be the best left back in the Premier League, if not the world. In years past, Shaw was a marauding full back looking to overlap at every opportunity and whip balls into the box for strikers to get their heads on. As he has aged and injuries have taken a toll on his ability to get up and down the pitch, the England international has adapted his game, showing remarkable versatility to step in as a central defender on the left-hand side of a back three and a back two. Shaw’s contributions to the mighty Reds are perhaps best exemplified by the two Players’ Player Of The Year awards he collected in both the 18/19 season and the 20/21 season. Injuries took a toll While he has achieved a tremendous amount at Old Trafford, winning the Europa League, the FA Cup and two English League Cups, it’s easy to wonder how much more silverware the Englishman could have got his hands on had he not been plagued by injuries over the last few years. In the previous two seasons alone, Shaw has missed almost 100 games through injury, suffering through knee, muscle and calf setbacks that kept him out for the majority of each season. The rarity of his appearances caused many United fans to question whether he would ever play a significant role for the team again. An ever-present season This season, however, Shaw has been a man transformed. As stated, he is currently the only United player to have started every game in the Premier League, which speaks to the value and experience the England international brings to the team. Both Carrick and former head coach Ruben Amorim viewed Shaw as a key part of their squads and one of the first names on the team sheet. Shaw got the reward his consistency deserved on Sunday, when he brought the ball down coolly in the area before drilling a thumping finish into the bottom corner to give United the lead against Nottingham Forest. It was a joyous moment for the full back who has, across the entire season, proved that he is more than capable of being the Red Devils’ first-choice left back heading into next season. His relationship with Matheus Cunha on the left flank is developing by the game and, come next season, United fans will likely see many more goals originating from that side of the pitch. With England manager Thomas Tuchel set to announce his squad for the World Cup on Friday, there is no doubt that Shaw’s commanding performances for United have warranted him a place in the squad. England would benefit from his experience, defensive prowess and leadership and he could play a key role as the Three Lions hunt for glory. José Mourinho’s return to Real Madrid set to blow major United transfer out of the water – report
Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Federico Valverde this summer but prising him away from Real Madrid may have just become more difficult. The Red Devils are looking to revamp their midfield this year after finishing third in the Premier League. The English giants are preparing to face Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium next weekend in the final Premier League game, which will be their 40th match of the season. That will be the fewest games they have played in a campaign since the 2014/15 season. United, however, have qualified for next season’s Champions League, so they could have a congested fixture list next campaign. With Casemiro set to leave and Manuel Ugarte also likely to be on his way out, the Red Devils are keen to add a world-class midfielder to their squad before the start of the new season. A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person named Valverde among the options for the job. LaLiga’s finest midfielder? Valverde arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2016 from Penarol as an emerging South American talent. After a successful loan spell with Deportivo La Coruna, the Uruguayan midfielder broke into the senior side in the 2018/19 season. Valverde soon cemented his place in the starting XI, operating in midfield as well as on the wings when required. His versatility, work ethic, and ability to influence games made him a key figure under former manager Carlo Ancelotti. The 27 year old retained his importance under the Italian’s successor, Xabi Alonso, and has also been a first-team regular under Alvaro Arbeloa, who took charge in January. Valverde has registered nine goals and 13 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid this season, all but two of which have been starts. The Uruguayan, however, was recently involved in a training ground row with Aurelien Tchouameni that has raised doubts about his future. It was reported that Real Madrid had decided to offload Valverde following the incident, with United hot on his heels. An update on the saga has now emerged that will not please the Red Devils. United suffer Valverde blow According to Football Insider, incoming Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho could block Valverde’s move to Old Trafford. The report states: “Manchester United could see any move for Real Madrid star Federico Valverde blocked by Jose Mourinho this summer, sources have told Football Insider.” Speaking on the Transfer Inside podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke added: “If he’s allowed to leave Real Madrid this summer, you would imagine most of Europe’s big clubs would be interested. Obviously it looks like Jose Mourinho will be returning to the Bernabeu as well. He’ll have a huge role to play in the future of Valverde if he wants him to stick around as well.” “No surprise that Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Valverde. Valverde has always indicated that he wants to stay at Madrid and sees them as his dream club and let’s see what Jose Mourinho has got planned.” “I expect Mourinho will be looking to keep hold of Valverde and all of Real Madrid’s other star players, so it could be very difficult to get a deal done.” Acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano has recently reported that the former United manager has already agreed to take charge at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. Final Thoughts While Valverde appears to be out of reach this summer, United can still significantly improve their midfield by signing Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson. The Englishman was on fire against the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Sunday and showed why he could be the ideal replacement for Casemiro. 🚨 BREAKING: José Mourinho back to Real Madrid, HERE WE GO! 💣🤍 All terms have been verbally agreed between José Mourinho and Real Madrid, waiting to sign all documents.
