United willing to sacrifice academy graduate “should a suitable offer arrive” as INEOS eye midfield revamp – report

Manchester United have plans to recruit as many as three midfielders in the summer to replace two outgoing stars. Casemiro has already announced his decision to leave upon the expiration of his contract, with a move to Inter Miami looking likely at this stage. INEOS would also like to move Manuel Ugarte on after a disappointing couple of seasons at Old Trafford. The Red Devils will look to bring in an elite defensive midfielder to replace the Brazilian, as well as someone from their B-list to come in place of the Uruguayan. Midfield revamp The club would also like to recruit a squad option, and there could be a chance that someone from Carrington steps in to fill that particular position. Michael Carrick likes Under-18 star Jim Thwaites, while Dan Gore, back from a successful League One loan, also has his eyes on the spot. United also have Toby Collyer, one of Erik ten Hag’s favourites from his time at the club. He made 13 appearances for the first team, including playing as an emergency left-back under the Dutch boss. With chances hard to come by under Ruben Amorim, the 22-year-old, who was initially earmarked as Casemiro’s successor, was sent out on loan to the Championship, where he has endured two separate difficult spells. Toby Collyer: difficult loan spells He represented West Bromwich Albion up till January before joining Hull City in the winter. It is safe to say, both temporary stints proved disastrous due to frequent injuries. The England U20 international managed a meagre two starts for the Baggies and a solitary start for the Tigers. With his United contract up in 2027, the 20-time English league champions feel it is best to cash in this summer. “What Casemiro’s imminent exit has done ever since it was announced earlier this year is shed light on United’s necessary midfield overhaul. United ready to sell “Multiple arrivals are expected…in a midfield department that is on the cusp of finding itself in major flux. “Manuel Ugarte is expected to depart while Toby Collyer could also leave permanently should a suitable offer arrive.” Being an academy graduate, the sale of Toby Collyer will count as pure profit and, given his injury troubles, it would not be the worst call in the world. United’s hopes of striking bombshell deal for Real Madrid superstar soar as Mourinho’s devious plot is leaked – report

Manchester United’s pursuit of Real Madrid maestro Eduardo Camavinga has reportedly taken another sharp turn thanks to the club’s former manager, Jose Mourinho. Rebuilding the Midfield The Red Devils are prioritising a complete overhaul in midfield this summer as the club braces itself for the loss of Casemiro after INEOS decided to let his contract expire. Despite turning 34 in February, the Brazilian has enjoyed a resurgent campaign, first under Ruben Amorim and then interim boss Michael Carrick. However, Manuel Ugarte has proved to be an incapable deputy in his stead, with United yet to win a Premier League match in which he has not started. As a result, the club are planning to invest up to £150 million in three new midfielders, provided a buyer can be found to take Ugarte off their hands. A suitable partner for Kobbie Mainoo is considered a priority, as well as a versatile No.8 to rotate with the 21-year-old starlet. The primary target is Elliot Anderson, but Manchester City are understood to be leading the race for the Nottingham Forest and England star. Premier League-proven operators such as Adam Wharton, Mateus Fernandes and Carlos Baleba are other options on the radar. However, Andy Mitten (The Athletic) reveals United have also been tracking “eyebrow-raising” targets in Spain as INEOS cast a wide net to fix their stalling engine room. This has led United to the Santiago Bernabeu, with advances made to try and sign Camavinga after a difficult season for Los Blancos. An Exit Looms Despite the 23-year-old midfielder making it clear he wishes to stay in the Spanish capital and fight for his place, Jose Mourinho – set to take charge of his former club at the end of the season – is understood to want him sold. Spanish journalist Miguel Serrano reveals the Special One “doesn’t want Camavinga” and has instead implored Real Madrid to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers’ warrior Joao Gomes from under the noses of local rivals Atletico. Diego Simeone’s side are said to be in advanced negotiations to sign the 25-year-old Brazilian, who is also on United’s radar. However, Mourinho has instead “put his name forward” for a hijack – and is willing to sacrifice Camavinga to fund it. If Florentino Perez, the president who has personally pushed for Mourinho’s return, greenlights the move, it will reignite United’s hopes of striking a deal for Camavinga, after they were dashed by the France international’s resolute stance on remaining in Spain. Final Thoughts Competition will prove fierce for Camavinga should he become suddenly available again on the market, as Real are expected to demand a cut-price fee of around £50 million for his services – around half the figures being suggested for United’s targets in England. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are expected to join the race, while Ligue 1 giant Paris Saint-Germain will always be interested if a French superstar is on offer. INEOS will have to move quickly and decisively in order to fend off their rivals and secure a player who remains one of the finest midfielders in European football, even after a difficult campaign. PL star breaks his silence on dramatic failed deadline-day move to United

Aston Villa goalkeeper has shed light on last summer’s failed deadline day transfer to Manchester United, revealing his current feelings on it. Collapsed move Towards the end of last summer’s window, it became increasingly clear that Andre Onana’s time at the club was coming to an end and his counterpart, Altay Bayindir, could not be relied upon to man the sticks for United throughout an entire season. Then-manager Ruben Amorim started the campaign with Bayindir in goal but his mistakes prompted United to dip into the market for a late solution. United narrowed their choices down to two names: Martinez and Senne Lammens. Both keepers were keen on a switch to Old Trafford, and with the clock winding down, United had to make a decision. United eventually opted for the younger Lammens, forking out £18.2m to secure his services from Belgian outfit Royal Antwerp. Martinez, who had seemingly said goodbye to Villa with tears and a farewell lap of the stadium, was left anxiously waiting on a move to United. The transfer ultimately fell through, even though Amorim preferred the more experienced Argentine over Lammens. The World Cup winner ended up staying at Villa. Meanwhile, Lammens has made the United starting role his own, regularly delivering top-class performances. Lammens has proven to be a real difference maker and looks set to be the main man at United for at least the next decade. In hindsight, all signs point to the Red Devils making the right choice. Ahead of Villa’s Europa League final clash against Freiburg, Martinez reflected on the events and last summer and indicated that he is pleased with how they panned out. Martinez’s admission Martinez said, “Well, I say goodbye and I cry when I left my family from Argentina to England as well.” “Sometimes football can change, managers can come in and go. You know, in football people move around the place. It doesn’t mean that I don’t have full respect for the club. I love the club.” “I have a commitment with Aston Villa. I am a World Cup winner with Aston Villa, I have won two Golden Gloves with Aston Villa. I will always and forever love this club.” “One day I am going to retire, so someone else will need to be between the sticks.” He added, “Listen, I am in a European final and we have got Champions League again with all the circumstances that we have had and battles we have had this year. We are one of the lowest spenders in the Premier League.” “We have a top coach, a top captain [John McGinn] and a decent core of the team. When we stick together and when we fight together, I think that we can beat anybody. I am really proud to stay – I made the right choice.” Meanwhile, United return to action on Sunday when they go away to Brighton & Hove Albion in their final game of the season. United hold secret meeting with PL side for their talisman as dream summer move becomes “easier” – report

Manchester United’s hunt for Casemiro’s successor could be edging towards a conclusion if the latest reports are to be believed. Initially, it seemed as though fellow Brazilian Ederson had been earmarked as the five-time Champions League winner’s replacement. Those updates were premature, with INEOS considering the Atalanta ace as a backup to a more elite operator. Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali and Carlos Baleba remain at the top of the pile, but the Nottingham Forest ace’s price tag and his preference for Manchester City have made a potential move difficult. Why Mateus Fernandes has emerged as a genuine option The Newcastle superstar would welcome the chance to switch to Old Trafford, but whether INEOS can muster the funds required remains to be seen. And question marks remain over the Cameroonian owing to his inconsistent form this season, coupled with Brighton’s asking price. This is why the Red Devils have earmarked West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes as the primary option in case a move for the aforementioned trio fails to materialise. According to The Daily Mail, United officials recently met with the Hammers over a summer move for the Portuguese ace. United hold secret meeting with West Ham Bruno Fernandes is a fan of his compatriot and has been pushing the 20-time English league champions to sign him. And with the former Southampton ace missing out on a place in Portugal‘s World Cup squad, the chances of agreeing an early deal have been made easier. “Confidential understands United have had more recent discussions with West Ham about the availability of midfielder Mateus Fernandes as we creep closer to the opening of the transfer window. “While United are by no means the only suitor in for Fernandes – Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are keen – there is an understanding that relegation will put increased pressure on the Hammers to make sales to satisfy financial rules. Summer move has been made easier due to World Cup snub “Sources have indicated that West Ham will likely need to recoup £100 million, with Fernandes arguably their most valuable asset. “United are understood to be working to a budget of around £150m, as recently revealed in this column, to overhaul their midfield engine room and Fernandes is a primary target outside of the top tier picks of Elliot Anderson, Aurelien Tchouameni and Carlos Baleba. “The fact Fernandes has been left out of Portugal’s World Cup squad makes any potential move easier, too.” Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are also eyeing Mateus Fernandes, whose ability to play across the midfield makes him an attractive prospect. West Ham’s hopes of earning a bumper amount from his sale could dissolve if they get relegated. All eyes will be on what happens next Sunday. United gifted golden chance to beat City to “elite” PL superstar, Wilcox now ready to open talks – opinion

Manchester United are prepared to go toe-to-toe with Manchester City for Elliot Anderson this summer – and a major twist in the tale at the Etihad may have just opened the door for INEOS to push ahead in the red-hot race for the midfield maestro. “One of the best” England manager Thomas Tuchel believes Anderson, 23, has emerged as “one of the best midfielders” in the Premier League since joining Nottingham Forest in 2023. Described as an “elite player” by the 52-year-old German, Anderson is primed to play a pivotal role for the Three Lions alongside Arsenal powerhouse Declan Rice at the World Cup in North America. Crucially, he will start as the No.6, with Rice operating as the No.8 and Jude Bellingham or Morgan Rogers ahead of the pair in the No.10 position – the exact set-up and role United envision for him at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are focusing on a revamp in midfield in INEOS’ third summer window at the helm, with the most pressing priority being the identification – and capture – of the heir to Casemiro, who is set to leave once his contract expires in June. Anderson, an all-action dynamo with the ability to thrive across every phase of play, is the leading candidate, though a number of alternatives – Sandro Tonali, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Mateus Fernandes to name but a few – are also under consideration. United are ready to open formal negotiations to strike a deal for Anderson. But they are acutely aware of City’s shared interest in the Forest talisman, with the noisy neighbours viewing the Englishman as a long-term successor to Rodri. The Spain international, who won the Ballon d’Or in 2024, has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid as he approaches the final year of his contract. Well-placed sources indicate the Citizens are frontrunners for Anderson’s signature, with noises emanating out of the blue half of Manchester suggesting confidence in fending off their rivals in the red half. But a key part of their sales pitch, and one Anderson is understood to be drawn to, is the chance to work under the best manager in world football in the 21st century not named Sir Alex Ferguson – and this week’s bombshell update confirms this will no longer be possible. Guardiola’s getaway Despite Guardiola’s contract at the Etihad having twelve months remaining, the Spaniard is set to call time on his City tenure at the end of this campaign. His former acolyte Mikel Arteta has propelled Arsenal to the title, though he will leave with a Carabao Cup and an FA Cup triumph already in the bag. However, there remains the ominous backdrop of the 115 charges – which actually stands at 134 in total – levelled at City by the Premier League over breaches of financial rules. “The charges cover four areas: a failure to give ‘a true and fair view of the club’s financial position’; a failure to ‘include full details’ of player and manager remuneration; breaches of national and continental financial fair play regulations; and a failure to ‘cooperate with, and assist, the Premier League in its investigations’,” The Guardian reports. The financial breaches are said to have taken place between 2009 and 2018, overlapping with the first two years of Guardiola’s time with City. The charges of failing to comply with the Premier League’s investigation stretch from December 2018 to February 2023. The BBC reports there is “no suggestion” that he was aware of any alleged wrongdoing, though his legacy in English football will be defined by the independent commission’s ruling. If City are cleared, it will remain untarnished; if guilty, Guardiola will be too by extension. Perhaps this is as strong a driving factor on his decision to depart, given the disciplinary hearing for the case was heard almost 18 months ago and the publishing of a final decision is said to be expected sooner rather than later. Or maybe he is simply ready to bid adieu to English football. Either way, the result remains the same: one of the most alluring parts of playing for Manchester City will no longer be a part of Manchester City next week. Different priorities without Pep? Enzo Maresca has already agreed to take the reins from Guardiola, having previously been his assistant at the Etihad. But the former Chelsea manager is understood to already be eyeing a reunion with Blues midfielder Enzo Fernandez after their shared time together at Stamford Bridge. TEAMtalk reports the Argentina international would “likely jump at the chance” to play under Maresca again, with City having already identified him as a potential target this summer before the news about Guardiola broke. Where Anderson appeared the priority under Pep, Fernandez may emerge as the new one with Enzo at the wheel. And even City’s illicitly generated treasures will not be deep enough to fund two separate £100m raids for Premier League midfielders. Final Thoughts – Red Pill vs Blue Pill If we rewind to the Christmas period, the contrasting projects on offer at Old Trafford and the Etihad would not have made pleasant viewing for a United fan. But five months on, with the tumultuous tenure of Ruben Amorim replaced by Michael Carrick’s impressive interim spell, and Champions League qualification in the bag, the picture is far rosier. City have lost their Commander-in-Chief. Their squad looks at its weakest in a decade, with pivotal figures like Bernardo Silva and John Stones set to depart without obvious replacements. A potentially era-defining judgement off the pitch is looming in the background that would have a devastating impact on it. Yes, Mr Anderson will earn more if he chooses the blue pill over the red pill. But the offer INEOS can extend – to lead a revolution at England’s biggest club under the watch of a fellow Wallsend native and former midfield maestro, while still earning huge wages with enormous sponsorship opportunities – is growing in strength by the week. United’s success moving forward will depend almost entirely on how effectively they overhaul their midfield this summer. Anderson is the building block which will propel the club back to the pinnacle of domestic and European football; he is ‘The One’ – and sporting director Jason Wilcox must channel his inner-Morpheus to convince him to realise his destiny. She has not featured for the Lionesses since November due to an injury that caused her to miss half of the season for United. Toone revealed that she only learned of her England call-up moments before receiving her gong at Windsor Castle. The United academy graduate said, “We were sitting in the waiting room before going in and we quickly checked. Prince William asked if I was back fit and whether I’m on the next camp, so it was nice to be able to tell him there. I am doing well and I’ve come back feeling better and stronger than ever.” She continued, “It is so exciting. There is so much talent in the England squad now, with so many experienced players, players who’ve been to tournaments before, and loads of young, exciting talent coming through as well.” “I am obviously really looking forward to it, and hopefully I can go out there and represent England again.” Toone stressed the importance of being a role model to the younger generation. “I set up ET7 Academy to give girls a chance and an opportunity to play football, to make friends, to develop as people and players.” “I hope that one day we can have another Ella Toone, who maybe comes from Tyldesley, where I grew up. As Lionesses, we are role models, we have got to use our platforms as best we can to really grow the women’s game and to give all young girls and boys opportunities in football.” Toone also disclosed that her wedding with fiancé Joe Bunney will take place this summer in Cheshire. United plot stunning raid for “unbelievable” PL captain, INEOS ready to pull off a masterstroke – report

Manchester United are considering a swoop for West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen as INEOS look to bolster their forward line this summer, according to a new report. Adding More Firepower Despite the focus being on a midfield revamp, United are also on the hunt for reinforcements on the left wing and, in particular, up front. Joshua Zirkzee has proven to be a dismal signing since his £36.5 million switch from Serie A side Bologna two years ago, returning a paltry nine goals and four assists in 74 appearances. The Dutchman is expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, with a return to Italy the most likely destination. This means that an experienced back-up to Benjamin Sesko is on the agenda to help ease the burden on the 22-year-old Slovenian, despite a positive maiden campaign as the team’s top scorer following his big-money capture from RB Leipzig last summer. A new winger on the left is also understood to be on the cards to help bring better balance to the attack. Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu have shared the responsibility under Michael Carrick, but neither is as comfortable as Bryan Mbeumo or Amad on the right. However, the summer war chest is set to be directed primarily towards fixing the stalling engine room. The club’s primary targets in midfield are expected to cost up to £100 million, leaving little in the bank to fund two new attackers. But this is why Bowen – a versatile forward with a proven track record of goals in England – is such a sensible target, particularly if West Ham are relegated this week. A Proven Goal Scorer Bowen has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most reliable goal scorers, despite playing for a side often with their backs to the wall and has previously been hailed as “unbelievable” by Jurgen Klopp. The 29-year-old winger, who is capable of playing on either flank or through the middle as a false nine, has produced eight goals and 10 assists for the Hammers this season. Last year, it was 13 goals and nine assists; the campaign before, 16 goals and six assists. With Nuno Espirito Santo’s side facing the impending prospect of a descent into the Championship, their captain – another green flag for United – is far too good a player to not remain in England’s top division. The Guardian reveals United are joined by Chelsea and Liverpool in their admiration of Bowen, with West Ham United said to be “under extreme pressure to make sales if relegation is confirmed this week.” The report states the Red Devils see the England international’s “versatility as a big plus” as they look to “add more depth in attack after qualifying for the Champions League”. Interestingly, United have also been strongly linked with Bowen’s teammates, midfielder Mateus Fernandes and full-back El Hadji Malick Diouf, setting up the possibility of a blockbuster triple raid on the London Stadium this summer. Final Thoughts If INEOS can sign Bowen in a cut-price deal following West Ham’s relegation, he would represent a shrewd acquisition capable of solving multiple issues in United’s squad. His leadership qualities and Premier League pedigree would also be major bonuses. However, the Herefordshire native turns 30 in December, raising fears of a physical decline moving forward. United’s hierarchy have attempted to move away from this type of target since taking the helm at Old Trafford in 2024. If West Ham are able to generate a bidding war for their prized asset amongst three of England’s elite, the deal would quickly lose its appeal for United, even if Bowen remains a hugely underrated footballer. United appoint former Man City man to key position ahead of make-or-break summer – report

Manchester United have reportedly made an addition to their ranks, hiring former Manchester City man Gareth Whalley to a key position. Whalley’s appointment The Daily Mail reports that United have hired Whalley, placing him in charge of loans. Former United defender Jonny Evans vacated his role as head of loans and pathways in December last year, before he returned as a member of Michael Carrick’s backroom staff following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim. Evans was appointed in June after calling time on his career at the end of the 2024/25 season. United indicated that Evans’ duties and responsibilities would revolve around leading loan moves for the club’s youngsters and working with director of football Jason Wilcox to maximise player development and prepare them for first-team football. Evans left his position to spend more time with his family. Now, the Daily Mail reveals, “According to sources, we can exclusively reveal that Whalley, who had been the loan co-ordinator at City since 2011 until a recent exit from the club, was recruited by United earlier this season to look after their loans department.” “Whalley was selected as the man to monitor United’s crop of loanees, helping out on a part-time basis. United sources have stressed that no decision has yet been made about his long-term future at the club.” “Whalley is highly-rated having played a key role behind the scenes at City in overseeing player loans, an area where City have had much better success than United in the past decade. ” It’s said that Whalley is a hands-on individual and has relieved Stephen Torpey of loans duties, allowing the academy chief to focus on other things. During his playing days, Whalley turned out for the likes of Crewe Alexandra, Bradford City and Cardiff City. The Daily Mail say that he enjoys a close relationship with Wilcox, cultivated from their time working together at City. Big summer Although the bulk of the conversation has centred on who United are bringing in, the question of who leaves is equally pressing, especially with regard to the club’s academy products and young talents. A number of them will be returning from their loan spells and will need to be sent out again to continue their development. There are others in the academy ranks who may also need to head out to further their progression. Whalley will certainly be a busy man in the coming weeks and months. Meanwhile, Carrick and his players are next in action on Sunday when they go away to Brighton & Hove Albion. Much has been written about Manchester United’s need to offload out-of-favour players such as Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte in the summer. Amid this, Noussair Mazraoui’s underwhelming season has gone under the radar. The 28-year-old has made just 10 Premier League starts, failing to provide genuine competition for Diogo Dalot. As a result, United have entered the market to sign a new right-back. Manchester United considering signing Julian Ryerson Sky Deutschland reports that Manchester United are in the running to land Borussia Dortmund full-back Julian Ryerson. The Norwegian has emerged as one of the most prolific creators in Germany, having registered 18 assists in 42 matches across all competitions. It is reported that United are looking for a backup for Diogo Dalot. Furthermore, any potential move for Ryerson to Old Trafford will allegedly only go through if Noussair Mazraoui departs. Mazraoui joined United from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in 2024. Potential fee for Julian Ryerson Meanwhile, Dortmund signed Ryerson from Union Berlin in 2023. The Norway international is under contract for at least two more years.  It is reported that Dortmund have not set a price tag, but a fee of over €30 million (£26m) is expected in the event of a transfer. Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir’s move to Besiktas this summer hinges on one key factor, according to Fabrizio Romano. Unsafe Pair of Hands Bayindir, 28, arrived at Old Trafford from Fenerbahçe for £4.3 million in the summer of 2023. The Türkiye international was signed to be the No. 2 to Andre Onana, signed in the same window from Inter Milan for £47.2m to replace long-term stalwart David De Gea. Despite the 6’6 shot-stopper described as “top class” by Bruno Fernandes,  and Onana forging a reputation as one of Europe’s best goalkeepers in Italy, neither has proved to be a successful signing. Both have committed a series of costly mistakes when starting, often destabilising the defence they are designed to protect. This led to the decision last summer to sign Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp, even with the 23-year-old Belgian having only one season of first-team experience under his belt. Lammens’ capture led to Onana joining Trabzonspor on loan as then-head coach Ruben Amorim preferred Bayindir. The Turkish side are hoping to strike a permanent deal for the Cameroon international this summer. But Bayindir’s performance in Onana’s stead were as shaky, with Lammens quickly assuming the starting berth and proving transformative between the sticks. The Zottegem native is already one of United’s best signings in years. Bayindir to Besiktas? Both the player and club are open to Bayindir’s departure this summer, with a return to Türkiye the most likely destination. Interestingly, Trabzonspor have been linked with a move, though Super Lig giant Besiktas are understood to be the strongest suitor. A report relayed by The Peoples Person revealed the Black Eagles have agreed personal terms with Bayindir, despite his previous allegiance with bitter rivals Fenerbahçe. However, Besiktas have parted ways with their manager, Sergen Yalçın, by mutual agreement after a disappointing campaign at the Tüpraş Stadium. Italian transfer expert Romano claims this will affect the pursuit of Bayindir as the new manager will need to approve the 6’6 United star as a target. 🚨 Altay Bayindir can leave Manchester United in the summer. Besiktas remain interested but deal depends on new manager after recent change of coach.” Final Thoughts Romano confirms Besiktas “remain interested” in Bayindir, which offers hope a deal will still be pursued once their new chief is in place. With United’s summer war chest set to be directed primarily towards the midfield, there will be little left over for a new goalkeeper. Bayindir’s sale will fund his replacement – and while a new No. 2 is not the type of signing that gets fans’ heart rates going, the frightening prospect of the Turkish ‘keeper starting for United again should.
