Star’s year-on-year improvement at United is phenomenal, the club has an amazing player on its hands – opinion

From the undignified melee of last summer’s transfer scramble for a centre-forward, Manchester United emerged with Benjamin Sesko and the fluttering heart of a risk taken. In the end the media, if not the clubs involved, gobbled up the narrative of a straight race between Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres, the Sporting goalscoring freak who ultimately joined Arsenal. Gyokeres will finish the season with a Premier League title and more than 20 goals, but United should have no regrets over shelling out £65m on the rangy Slovenian instead. Excellent first season Erling Haaland undoubtedly skewed the metric for success of young strikers moving from the Bundesliga to the Premier League, but by any reasonable measure Sesko has had an excellent debut season. His campaign was abruptly ended by an injury picked up in the thrilling 3-2 win over Liverpool, during which he scored his 11th league goal of an inconsistent, unpredictable first term at United. Given that Sesko didn’t get off the mark until his sixth game for the club, that he was fresh to the English top-flight and still just 22, reaching double figures is in itself a fine achievement. Upward trajectory More impressive, however, is that in the Premier League he averaged one goal every 149 minutes, having been used as a substitute 13 times. Unexpectedly, this is an improvement on his final season at RB Leipzig, where his 13 league goals worked out as one every 184 minutes. It’s harder than you might think to downplay the impact of a player who in some areas has been criticised as barely an upgrade on Rasmus Hojlund. That Sesko is already taking steps forward in his still comparatively short career is deeply exciting for his future in United red. Growth required The 22-year-old was brought to Old Trafford as a long-term figurehead for a reinvented attack, and the idea is undoubtedly for him to feature as an undisputed starter. At times this season he settled very comfortably into the role of supersub, winning crucial points off the bench – his injury time winner against Fulham was followed by a last-gasp equaliser at West Ham and a match-winning strike against Everton. That is clearly not a sustainable position for a £65m man tipped to be one of the best young forwards in world football, but is a very strong start to his United career from which to build. In a rare vindication of United’s transfer strategy, all three of last summer’s attacking arrivals have scored ten or more goals. Having a goal threat across the front line is valuable, but an effective centre-forward is priceless. Ruben Amorim’s future has been subject to speculation since leaving Manchester United at the turn of the year. The Portuguese head coach endured a difficult 14-month tenure at Old Trafford that ended in disappointment in January this year. Amorim took charge of the Red Devils as former manager Erik ten Hag’s replacement in November 2024, fresh from transforming Sporting’s fortunes. In his four years at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, his team won the league twice, among other trophies. Unfortunately, his time at the Theatre of Dreams was not so rosy. The Portuguese struggled to get his ideas across after taking charge mid-season, and the English giants ended up finishing 15th in the Premier League last season. The 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final did him no favours either, although United backed him over the summer, investing over £200 million in the squad. Unfortunately, results failed to improve this season, and the Red Devils finally opted for a change in management after the 1-1 draw against Leeds United at the beginning of January. United’s post-Amorim rise Amorim’s departure appeared to have taken the shackles off the United team, who have looked a completely different unit under caretaker manager Michael Carrick. The Englishman took charge at Old Trafford in mid-January and recent reports suggest that he is set to get the full-time position following an impressive run. The Red Devils kick-started Carrick’s tenure with a four-game winning run against Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur. They have since registered 11 wins in the Englishman’s 16 games in charge, losing just twice. United’s recent rise has seen them secure third place in the Premier League table, which was once inconceivable under Amorim. They have subsequently secured Champions League football for next season. Amorim, meanwhile, is yet to take up his next assignment but has been linked with several jobs in Portugal. A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person states that Benfica are eager to appoint him as outgoing manager Jose Mourinho’s replacement. An update on the former Sporting manager’s future has now emerged that is likely to put an end to any speculation regarding his future. Amorim wants to pursue a career abroad Amorim’s agency AS1 have shared a statement via Portuguese outlet Record, rubbishing all recent reports linking him to jobs in the country. The statement insists that the former United head coach will pursue his coaching career abroad. The statement read: “In light of the latest reports regarding Ruben Amorim’s future, particularly the report broadcast this Wednesday by SIC on “Jornal da Noite”, it is important to clarify the following: Ruben Amorim decided some time ago to pursue his career abroad.” “For this very reason, he has not held any meetings with Portuguese clubs to discuss working conditions, structure, squad, salaries or any other matters. Anything said beyond this is mere speculation and bears no relation to reality.” Final Thoughts While Amorim could not live up to expectations, there were some positives from his tenure at Old Trafford. However, all signs now indicate that United made the correct decision in letting him go. ✈️ pic.twitter.com/kJbdImmlMp — A BOLA (@abolapt) May 21, 2026 Feature image Ben Roberts Photo via Getty Images The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade. Frenkie de Jong sends clear message over Barcelona’s plan to sign Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford left Manchester United last summer to join Barcelona on a season-long loan and has been a hit in Spain so far. The Englishman has won LaLiga and the Supercopa de Espana with the Catalans, and has been one of Hansi Flick’s most important players. Rashford has scored 14 goals in 48 appearances across competitions for the Spanish champions, ranking fifth in the squad behind Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski. The 28 year old has also registered 14 assists so far, with only Yamal and Fermin Lopez managing more. Despite Rashford’s impressive form this season, his future remains uncertain. Barcelona have the option to sign the player permanently for €30 million this summer, but previous reports have suggested that they are trying to secure a deal for a reduced fee. The situation has fuelled speculation regarding the Englishman’s future, especially since his Old Trafford fate appears sealed. No longer wanted at United Rashford’s progress through the ranks at Old Trafford was impressive, and he enjoyed an eye-catching entry into the senior side under former United manager Louis van Gaal. He was impressive under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer too, but enjoyed the best campaign of his career under Erik ten Hag. After registering 30 goals and 12 assists in 56 appearances in all competitions in the 2022/23 season, the Englishman secured a lucrative new deal at Old Trafford. However, he endured a dip in form the following season. Things went from bad to worse following the Dutch manager’s departure and the arrival of Ruben Amorim in November 2024. Rashford scored the first goal of the Amorim era, but fell out with the Portuguese manager. Two months later, he was shipped out on loan to Aston Villa, before joining the Catalans last summer. While Amorim is no longer in charge at Old Trafford, a return to United appears unlikely, with the English giants eager to cash in on him this summer. There’s no shortage of interest in Rashford, thanks to his impressive form this campaign. Having played alongside the Englishman all season at Camp Nou, Frenkie de Jong has now given his thoughts on the player’s future. De Jong wants Rashford to stay at Barcelona De Jong recently sat down with SPORT to discuss a wide array of topics, including his current team-mates. When asked if Rashford had earned his place at Barcelona, De Jong responded positively, adding that he has already given a lot to the team. The Dutchman said: “Yes, I think so.” “In the minutes he’s had, he’s given us a lot: goals, assists, depth. He’s a quick player who poses a real threat to opposing defences. As far as I’m concerned, I’d be delighted if he stayed with us.” De Jong was next asked if it was difficult for Rashford to settle in at Camp Nou having played almost his entire career at United. The Dutchman responded: “I saw him arrive full of enthusiasm.” “He was very happy to be here and from the very first moment you could tell he wanted to stay. He’s tried to adapt as best he can and I’ve seen him doing well.” Final Thoughts Rashford’s departure can be registered as pure profit in the books, thanks to his academy status. His proposed sale, as such, could help United’s squad reinforcement plans this summer. With the player no longer part of the Red Devils’ plans, the sooner this saga ends, the better it will be for all parties concerned. 🚨 Marcus Rashford deal, still on with talks underway behind the scenes. Rashford wants to stay at Barça and terms are agreed since March. Manchester United are ready to lock horns with Liverpool to sign Brazilian centre-back Gleison Bremer this summer, according to a new report. A Defensive Leader Despite Harry Maguire putting pen to paper on a contract extension last month, the Red Devils remain in the market for a new central defender. The continued injury concerns over Matthijs de Ligt, who recently underwent back surgery and has not played since November, are matched by Lisandro Martinez‘s inability to stay fit. While inside sources claim the talented duo of Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven have the potential to develop a partnership as strong as Arsenal’s Premier League-winning duo, William Saliba and Gabriel, they remain works in progress. The club are understood to be looking at defensive monsters to bring more physicality and authority to their backline. The impending loss of Casemiro, a monster in ground and aerial duels, may be another factor driving this. Bremer, Juventus’ 6’2 juggernaut with outstanding pace and power, certainly fits the bill — with United said to be preparing a big-money offer to lure him to Old Trafford. North West Rivals Soccer Hooligan reveals both United and Liverpool have held “preliminary meetings” with Bremer’s representatives to gauge the viability of a summer switch. One of the Milan clubs is also understood to be keeping close tabs on the situation at Juventus, though the report does not specify whether it is the blue or red half of the San Siro. The Brazil international, who is set to represent the Seleção at the World Cup in June, is “not unhappy living in Turin”, but he is acutely aware he’s in the peak of his career and the opportunity to “win major trophies is narrowing.” His contract at the Allianz Stadium contains a release clause worth £50 million, though this only becomes active for the first ten days in August. United’s recruitment team, headed by sporting director Jason Wilcox, are said to have placed Bremer on their “‘must-buy players’ list to solve the injury crises in defence and the weakness in building play from the back.” A plan is already in place to table a £50m bid in July, designed to exploit Juventus’ “financial vulnerability”. If the Brazilian were to arrive this summer, it would throw serious doubt onto the long-term futures of the experienced trio already residing at the Theatre of Dreams. There is also a strong argument for United to focus their funds defensively, given the attack has scored only three less than Arsenal, but conceded almost double that of the Gunners. Final Thoughts Naturally, there is concern about how well a high-profile signing from Serie A will adapt to the rigours of the Premier League, but Bremer’s all-action style and aggressive front-foot defending leaves little chance he would struggle. The main obstacle which will likely deter United is his age, given the Bahia native will turn 30 next season. INEOS have firmly moved United’s recruitment away from big-name players chasing one final payday. While the idea of a world-class operator like Bremer arriving in July at the expense of Liverpool is an exciting one, The Peoples Person advises caution in expecting it to come to fruition. What a brilliant season Luke Shaw has had. While not many doubted his abilities, it has always been his availability that has proved a big source of concern. Before this campaign, in which he has started every league game, Shaw had spent the better part of his Manchester United career on the treatment table. While the 20-time English champions could easily have let him go, they did not, and it has paid off handsomely this season. There is hope Shaw will produce another brilliant season next term. However, with a return to Champions League football bringing trickier fixtures in the league phase, some feel it is a risk to depend solely on the left-back being ever-present. To play it safe, there is a push for INEOS to sign another left-back to deputise for Shaw. Search for Luke Shaw’s deputy By now, the question might be: why sign another left-back when Patrick Dorgu is already there? Well, Dorgu has proven most effective in an offensive role and is now seen more as a left winger than a left-back. With Dorgu not an option in that position, the focus turns to Harry Amass. Amass did well when offered minutes at left-back last season, shining across his five Premier League appearances. Earlier in the season, he was sent out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday to gain regular game time. Despite Wednesday’s struggles, the United defender stood out, easily the Championship side’s best player in the first half of the season. In the second half of this 2025-26 campaign, it was decided it was best he switched clubs, joining a better-performing Norwich City. Unfortunately, things did not go to plan at Carrow Road. Just one game into his spell with the Canaries, the 19-year-old picked up a serious hamstring injury in training and has been sidelined ever since. What is being said about Harry Amass now Manchester Evening News is the latest to drop an update on the defender. They report, “The good news is that Amass’ recovery has gone well, and it’s understood he is set to be fit for the beginning of United’s pre-season, which usually begins with training in the first week of July.” Back and available for a full pre-season is a major boost. It should give Amass enough time to rediscover his form after a long spell on the sidelines. With a chance to impress, the young full-back could yet shine and perhaps convince INEOS to reconsider their transfer plans, redirecting funds earmarked for a left-back elsewhere. Casemiro has played his last game for United, confirms Michael Carrick – press conference

Casemiro has played his last game for Manchester United. Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Red Devils’ trip to Brighton on Sunday, interim manager Michael Carrick explained the situation. Casemiro leaves “We always kind of decided that last week would be his last game, so I think that went well, as well as we all could have hoped to be honest, and he’s been fantastic and I’ve said a lot of things about Case and how well he’s done for me since I’ve been here and for the whole club.” “It was decided that it was a good time for him to finish, really, so again, I’m just saying what the …about bringing young players through and academy players and younger players, giving them opportunities is a real responsibility that we feel towards the game, as well and getting the balance right at certain times going into games like this.” “But it’s an opportunity to – depending on how the game goes – to try and make the most of that because we’ve got some really good young players that we want to try to take the next step to give them the opportunity. So hopefully that pans out in a positive way for us.” “It just felt the right time I think for Case and it was decided, he’s part of that as well, so it was the right time. There is an element of a balance … we’re not done, you know, the season’s not done for us, so we’re really conscious of that. So there’s a real balance between trying new things moving forward, keep evolving.” “There’s always games that we’ve tried different things in that some might know with some people might not know with others. So I think the biggest thing is that we’re really conscious to respect this last game and what it stands for and obviously try and make the best of it for us. We want to go down there and put in a good performance and try and win the game.” Carrick’s own future Asked about the highly expected announcement that he has got the permanent job as manager, Carrick replied: “Yeah, it was said the end of the season pretty much, so we’re not far away, a couple of days away. So yeah, I said to you the other day about clarity is pretty much around the corner and it is going to be now, but at this stage I can’t really give you any more.” On the Southampton spying controversy Carrick was asked to comment on his old club Middlesbrough’s situation after the FA removed Southampton from the Premier League playoffs for spying on their training camp. “I’m not close enough to it to understand all the details to be honest with you,” he replied. “So, the only thing I can say, it’s unfortunate for a lot of people and a lot of people were involved in all the football clubs that I’ve ended up being involved in, all Southampton and Middlesbrough, so the whole situation is a little bit unfortunate.” “All I can say is that I wish Middlesbrough all the best, obviously I’ve had great times there. I’ve got a lot of friends there and I’d love to see, especially the players and seeing them do well. They gave everything for me when I was there, the ones that were there, so to see them have success and end up in the Premier League, I take a lot pride in that.” Sunday’s game against Brighton Asked if he had any team news for Sunday, the boss said “Not really”. He was then asked about the opponents, who are chasing a European qualification spot. “Well, we’re certainly conscious of the situation of the game and what’s at stake,” he assured the reporter. “I think we’ve certainly got a responsibility for that.” “We’ve managed to put ourselves in a position where we are the position that we are in the league and I’ve said about we wanted to finish strong for ourselves as much as anything, so… We’re approaching the game as we would any other game. There’s a lot to play for Brighton, for Bournemouth, for all the other clubs surrounding that, so we’re well aware of that.” Congratulations to Arsenal On Arsenal winning the Premier League with a game to spare, the manager said: “First of all, I’d like to say huge congratulations to Arsenal and Mikel [Arteta] and the players and all the staff. I think when you win the league, you win because you deserve it. So much over such a long period of time needs to be done so well in order to win it. They’ve been really consistent over a number of years now and the patience and the improvement that they’ve had of taking steps, I think they’re at a stage now where they deserve to win it.” “As a football club, of course, that’s where we want to be. We’ve been there in the past, and it doesn’t mean necessarily you’ll always be there again, but that’s certainly, as a football, what we’re striving for as soon as possible, really.” “As I’ve said before, I think just keep moving forward in so many ways. It is never the finished article, it definitely is not in terms of where we want to be as a football club. I think we’re moving in a good direction, I mean momentum, positivity and improvements is always, whether that’s sometimes it’s staff, sometimes it’s playing squad, sometimes it is new ideas, just keep evolving as much as we possibly can as a club.” On catching up with City and Arsenal, he added: “There’s always improvement within the squad of course, certain things you want to tweak, certain things which we have done as we’ve progressed really, so just because it’s the end of the season it doesn’t change what we’ve said it from the start. We came in to try and put things in place and improve for the longer term, so it’s not just because the season’s coming to an end that that gets cleared up and whatever happens it goes in a certain direction.” “I think we’ve got a really good foundation of the squad and a good mixture of age in different stages of the career. I think we’ve proved that we’re really dangerous and we can score goals, which is exciting and encouraging moving forward for sure.” The embargoed section of the presser will be released at 10.30pm on Saturday and will be reported here in full. Manchester United are accelerating plans to launch a blockbuster raid for Newcastle United maestro Sandro Tonali, according to an explosive new report. Back on the Menu Alongside Elliot Anderson, Tonali, 26, was identified as one of Manchester United’s leading targets to overhaul their midfield this summer, with Casemiro set to leave on a free transfer and Manuel Ugarte expected to join the Brazilian if a buyer can be found. However, Newcastle are intent on keeping their best players, even after a difficult campaign at St James’ Park. A prohibitive asking price of £100 million — similar to the fee required for Anderson — was laid down to deter Tonali’s suitors, which included Arsenal, Manchester City and Juventus. This led United to cool their interest, exploring alternatives such as Real Madrid superstar Aurelien Tchouameni and West Ham United dynamo Mateus Fernandes. But reports from Italy in recent days claim the Red Devils are once again exploring a deal for Tonali, with a growing sense that the Magpies have softened their stance after a drop in price. One update relayed by The Peoples Person revealed United are leading the charge and “ready to submit a suitable offer”. This has now been confirmed by Serie A expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who reveals United have “confidence” they will be able to bring the Italy international to Old Trafford this summer. Double Deal The Sky Sports reporter claims United are looking to strike a double deal for Tonali and Atalanta dynamo Ederson, which is explained in greater detail here. There are few better sources of transfer news in Italy than Di Marzio, suggesting this one-two knockout punch to “strengthen” midfield is one to be taken seriously. GOAL claims United see Ederson’s versatility and Tonali’s “elite” technique as the perfect complement in midfield, though capturing the Brazilian in Italy will be far cheaper than signing the Italian in England. Nonetheless, Newcastle are under increasing pressure to generate funds after missing out on European football next season. A dismal transfer window last summer has left Eddie Howe’s squad imbalanced and in need of fresh blood. But they will be forced to sanction big-money departures in order to fund this — with Tonali one of their most valuable assets. He is not the most important midfielder on Tyneside, however, as captain Bruno Guimaraes remains the beating heart of the club. Other potential candidates, such as Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall, are considered untouchable by Howe, given their quality and potential. This leaves Tonali, along with wantaway winger Anthony Gordon — linked to Bayern Munich — as two of the only players capable of commanding sizeable fees. Final Thoughts Tonali is an all-action warrior in midfield, with outstanding athleticism and an unrelenting engine. He balances this with quality on the ball as well as a goal-scoring threat from distance. The Italian is also understood to be an excellent presence in the dressing room as well, which, in combination with his age and proven Premier League pedigree, ticks virtually every box INEOS are looking for in a new midfielder this summer. If United can exploit their rival’s weak situation to bolster their engine room with one of the finest operators in Europe, it will be arguably INEOS’s biggest coup at the helm yet. Manchester United are gearing up for one of the club’s biggest transfer windows in recent memory as Champions League football is set to return to Old Trafford next season. The War Chest is Ready The most urgent priority is a complete revamp in midfield, with three new options expected to arrive to replace Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte, provided a buyer can be found for the Uruguay international. But reinforcements are also planned for the left-hand side, though whether a full-back or winger takes precedence remains to be seen. A more experienced striker is another target, while a new No. 2 to back up Senne Lammens will also be required. One well-placed source reveals there is “near certainty” United’s budget this summer will eclipse last year’s £240 million outlay in order to fund this dramatic overhaul of Michael Carrick’s squad. And while the bulk of the war chest will be directed towards the engine room, United remain on the lookout for market opportunities elsewhere on the pitch — such as AC Milan superstar Rafael Leao. Open For Sale Despite Leao’s contract at the San Siro containing an eye-watering £152 million release clause, the Italian giants are understood to be open to offers around the £43m mark. This dramatic price drop would qualify as the type of opportunity United, who hold a long-standing admiration for the 26-year-old forward, are open to. I Rossoneri are prepared to cut their losses for two reasons: firstly, Leao’s deal expires in two years’ time; and, secondly, there are growing concerns over clashes with manager Massimiliano Allegri and his coaching staff, with the relationship described as being on the “verge of breaking down.” The Portugal international possesses one of the most exciting attacking profiles in European football. He stands 6’2″, with a powerful frame and rapid speed, while offering skill and lethal finishing in equal measure. If he were able to harness this outrageous selection of attributes with a better focus and work ethic, it would justify teammate Luka Modric’s assessment of him: “When I train with him, I see he is one of the best players in the world. The incredible thing is that he can still improve, it just depends on him.” United in two minds There are striking resemblances between Leao and a Red Devil currently exiled in Barcelona on a season-long loan, which may explain United’s hesitancy to pursue a move. A report relayed by The Peoples Person reveals United have rejected the chance to sign Leao after he was offered to a number of Premier League clubs, including newly crowned champions Arsenal. However, AC Milan expert Pietro Balzano Prota contends the Mancunian club remain “genuinely interested” in the Almada native, suggesting a deal is not dead in the water. And a different update from Italy claims United were exploring a potential swap deal, involving either Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte or Marcus Rashford. Zirkzee, the sinking Dutchman, is the player said to be of most interest to Milan. Final Thoughts It would be a risky move by INEOS to target a forward with world-class ability on the pitch but a poor attitude off it, given the decisions the hierarchy have made since taking the helm in 2024. But if Leao could be signed at a cut-price rate by including a player with no future at Old Trafford, it may just convince them to roll the dice on a talent with the potential to be one of the world’s most devastating attackers. Manchester United are looking to take advantage of the sporting and financial crisis at Leicester City. The Foxes, who remarkably won the Premier League title in 2016, have been relegated to England’s third tier. It is understood that Leicester now need to raise cash this summer, which has piqued the interest of the Premier League’s biggest clubs. Frontrunners Arsenal face late challenge from Manchester United According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United have tracked Jeremy Monga, who is expected to be sold by Leicester City. Monga, dubbed “a fantastic talent” by his former boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, is widely regarded as “one of the most exciting young talents in the English game and has received attention from most Premier League clubs.” The English attacker made 30 appearances for Leicester across all competitions last term, managing a goal and two assists in the process. It is believed that United have held talks with Leicester over a possible move for the 16-year-old electric winger. “Interested clubs have sensed an opportunity after Leicester’s relegation, but a £15million price tag has been mentioned,” the report adds. Furthermore, if United advance in talks for Monga, they will face stiff competition from Arsenal, who are thought to be in pole position to secure his signature. Manchester United and Arsenal chasing Mateus Fernandes United and Arsenal could also find themselves locking horns for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes. It is thought that Bruno Fernandes has been pushing the case for the Portuguese defensive midfielder, who has been West Ham’s standout player this season. However, Arsenal are also interested in Fernandes, as they want to reshape their midfield ahead of the next campaign. Luke Shaw is enjoying a rejuvenated run with Manchester United this season and appears to have put his injury woes behind him. The English left-back has started every game in the Premier League so far, registering 3,151 minutes of football, the most in a single league campaign in his career. Shaw started the season as the left-sided centre-back in former head coach Ruben Amorim’s controversial 3-4-3 system, playing the full 90 minutes in 12 of the 20 Premier League games. After the Portuguese’s departure and the subsequent arrival of caretaker manager Michael Carrick, the Englishman was reinstated in his natural left-back role and has continued his impressive run. The 30 year old has also played a starring role in United’s third-placed finish this season. Fresh from registering his first goal of the season in the 3-2 home win over Nottingham Forest last weekend, Shaw has now opened up on the emotions of scoring at Old Trafford. Amazing to score in front of United fans Speaking in an interview for the new edition of United Review, Shaw acknowledged that he should have scored more goals. He said: “I was just about to say I haven’t got many of them! I have scored at Old Trafford and yeah, it’s hard to describe the feeling, the emotion you go through when you score.” The Englishman revealed that it was special scoring at home in front of the fans and also recalled finding the back of the net for the first time at Old Trafford. He said: “I’ll always remember my first goal, especially at Old Trafford. It’s an unbelievable feeling, and because I’ve not had many you just never know what to do. You just run around like a madman!” “I think I did a knee slide for my first one [against Leicester in 2018]… But yeah, it’s a real special feeling, especially at home in front of your fans. That makes it even better.” Shaw has scored five goals and set up 30 more in 324 appearances across all competitions for United to date. His last goal for the club came in the 2022/23 season, against Bournemouth in the Premier League. Shaw’s post-match routine Shaw went on to add that while he remains focused before the game, he always searches for his family among the crowd at Old Trafford after every game. He said: “Before the game, I’m just so focused. I’ve been lucky to walk out with my children as mascots, and that’s been nice, but normally before the game I kind of just leave it.” “But after the game, especially after a good victory, it’s nice to look out for them. They are always in the same spot, so I know where they are and I’ll give them a little wave and stuff, so it’s nice.” “After the game I think I always tend to get a recovery rub. Sometimes I’ll get in the ice baths, so get in there, leave and get home. I think my evenings now look a lot different to what they were five or 10 years ago!” “I’ve got an extremely busy house now with four kids so there’s not much I can do now really apart from just play and have fun with them. I think especially going back after a good win and being able to enjoy it with my kids and family, it’s really special.” Final Thoughts Shaw will enter the final year of his contract this summer, and United will have to lay down succession plans for the left-back position soon. Recent reports have suggested Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall as an option, although securing his signature will not be easy.
