United star’s virtuoso display vs Brighton was thanks to Carrick’s smart tweak, could save INEOS millions in the summer

Manchester United ended the Premier League season with a bang, thrashing Brighton and Hove Albion 3-0 away at the Amex Stadium on Sunday. With a third-place finish secured last week, the visitors played with freedom, and it showed, while the Seagulls played under pressure as they looked to qualify for the Champions League. It was a fantastic start as Patrick Dorgu scored with a bullet header from a corner whipped in by Bruno Fernandes. That meant the club captain grabbed his 21st assist of the season, and he now stands atop the history books. Patrick Dorgu grabbed a goal and an assist Bryan Mbeumo’s goal saw Mason Mount and Amad combine to cut open the hosts as United took a 2-0 lead into the break. They were not done yet, as United’s Portuguese talisman got in on the act himself in the second half to round off the scoring. Patrick Dorgu got the assist, as he returned the favour to his skipper, with the Dane impressing on his first start in 15 games. Since Ruben Amorim’s departure, the 21-year-old has registered three goals and two assists, with only one goal and two assists coming under him. Left wing suits him, and INEOS He seems to have found a new lease of life since Michael Carrick tweaked his position and played him higher up the pitch. The Denmark international looks far more comfortable playing in this new more attacking role as compared to the previous head coach’s utilisation of him as a wing-back. If left wing becomes his new position and he continues to impress in pre-season, the former Lecce ace could save INEOS millions. Reports have been circulating that the 20-time English league champions are looking for a left-sided attacker, but the pair of Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu could prove more than enough based on current evidence. Four key passes, 87% passing accuracy: United maestro rewrites history with elite display against Brighton

Manchester United secured a 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex on Sunday, 24 May, to register a blockbuster end to the season. The Red Devils arrived at the game with their position in the league secure following the pulsating 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend at Old Trafford. That win had helped United secure a third-place finish in the Premier League and also provided a significant financial boost. Since then, Michael Carrick, who was appointed as caretaker manager in January, has been retained as the Red Devils’ permanent manager as a reward for his excellent work. The English manager subsequently made three changes to the team against the Seagulls. Casemiro was absent for the game as expected, following his tearful farewell at the Theatre of Dreams last weekend. Mason Mount returned to the starting XI in place of the veteran Brazilian, who is set to leave United this summer as a free agent. Meanwhile, Patrick Dorgu replaced Mateus Cunha in attack, while Noussair Mazraoui was selected ahead of Diogo Dalot at right-back. United end season on a high United had a slow start to the game, with Brighton, who were eager to pick up three points to secure European football next season, piling on the pressure. However, things changed when Dorgu headed home from a Bruno Fernandes corner to give his team a 1-0 lead. The Portuguese’s record-shattering 21st assist of the season sprang the Red Devils back to life, and Carrick’s team began to dominate proceedings. Bryan Mbeumo then got on the end of a ball from Amad to make it 2-0 for the visitors two minutes before the break. Two minutes into the second half, Dorgu turned provider for Fernandes, who scored his ninth goal of the season. That all but broke the Seagulls’ spirit and the Red Devils went on to secure a fine win. While the entire team turned up to help United end the season on a high, it was their mercurial skipper who was once again their main man. Fernandes justifies his Player of the Season tag Fernandes arrived at the game having registered 20 assists in the Premier League this season, equalling the record for the most assists in a single campaign previously set by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry. However, the Premier League and FWA Player of the Year ended the game as the sole holder of the accolade. The 31 year old managed 62 touches of the ball and completed 46 of his 53 attempted passes with an 87% passing accuracy. Fernandes registered four key passes and also created one big chance. The Portuguese attempted four crosses, one of which was accurate. He also registered seven long balls, four of which found their targets. The United skipper did not shy away from the dirty work either. He won two tackles, came out on top in two of his four duels, and registered one interception. Fernandes also had one shot on target, ending the game with a goal and an assist. Final Thoughts Riding on their run of 12 wins from 17 games under Carrick, United have now produced a blistering end to the season. Central to their resurgence since the turn of the year has been Bruno Fernandes, whose award-winning season further highlights why the Red Devils must tie him down to a new deal soon. 7/8 ground duels won, 7 recoveries: Rampant United star tore Brighton apart in 3-0 victory

Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount produced an inspired performance to help his side to a commanding 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion. United sign off in style United wrapped up the 2025/26 campaign superbly as they put Brighton to the sword at the Amex Stadium. Patrick Dorgu broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, heading home a sublime corner-kick delivery from Bruno Fernandes. Michael Carrick named Dorgu on the left wing in place of Matheus Cunha, who remained an unused substitute. The assist saw Fernandes eclipse Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry to become the player with the most assists (21) in a single Premier League season. Bryan Mbeumo doubled United’s advantage moments before the break as he finished off a brilliant team move with a simple tap-in.  United picked up where they left off in the second half as Fernandes netted a sensational strike in the 47th minute to snuff out whatever hopes the Seagulls may have harboured of mounting a comeback. The Red Devils laid siege to Brighton’s goal but they were mostly thwarted by Bart Verbruggen, who produced save after save. There were multiple United players who did well, including Mount. Mount’s display Carrick confirmed before the game that Casemiro had already played his last game for United and would therefore not feature against Brighton. The United boss opted for Mount to slot alongside Kobbie Mainoo in the pivot and the pair combined brilliantly. During the time he was on the pitch before he was replaced by Tyler Fletcher, Mount managed to find his teammates with 37 of the 43 passes he attempted (86% pass accuracy). One of these was a key pass. He found his intended target with two of the three long balls he pinged. The England international touched the ball 58 times and drew three fouls. He made six defensive contributions. Mount won two of the four tackles he put in. He contributed a further one clearance and as many interceptions. The 27-year-old registered seven recoveries and emerged victorious in seven of the eight ground duels he contested. United sign off 2025/26 season in style as they cruise to dominant 3-0 victory vs. Brighton – Match Report

Manchester United beat Brighton & Hove ALbion 3-0 in their final game of the 2025/26 Premier League season, concluding the campaign in brilliant style. Having been confirmed as the permanent head coach on Friday, Michael Carrick named a slightly rotated side for the contest. Senne Lammens started in goal with a back-four of Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw ahead of him. Carrick had confirmed that Casemiro wouldn’t play against Brighton, so Kobbie Mainoo was given the nod as United’s deepest lying-midfielder, forming the pivot with Mason Mount. Bruno Fernandes assumed his preferred playmaking role. Bryan Mbeumo was tasked with leading the line, with Patrick Dorgu and Amad flanking him on either side. First half With a Champions League place at stake, Brighton began as the far more assertive side, dominating possession and looking to keep United pinned back in their own half. The hosts applied a high press in an effort to force Lammens and his defenders into errors, but United had an answer for every challenge thrown their way. Brighton’s first crack at goal came inside 12 minutes as their Player of the Season, Ferdi Kadıoğlu, attempted a powerful shot from inside the box, but he couldn’t keep it under control and it flew well over the bar. United responded through Mount five minutes later as the England international delivered a dangerous low cross inside the box. Bart Verbruggen came out of his line to claim the ball. Maxim De Cuyper then fashioned some space in front of Noussair Mazraoui to send a shot just inches wide of the post. There was an injury scare for United at the half-hour mark when Luke Shaw went down after some contact, but he managed to pick himself up and continue. The Red Devils finally broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute through Dorgu, who got on the end of a sublime corner-kick delivery from Fernandes to head home. The assist means that Fernandes has now surpassed Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne to register the most assists in a single Premier League season (21). The goal galvanised United and a minute later, Shaw came close to doubling the lead with a powerful attempt, but he couldn’t quite hit the target. United maintained their pressure and Mbeumo was played into a promising position, but the Cameroonian was just dispossessed as he prepared to pull the trigger. Mainoo produced a moment of magic when he dribbled past a sea of bodies and broke into the box, but there was no one to cross the ball to and the chance dissipated. United finally extended their lead in the 44th minute through Mbeumo, who finished off a brilliant move. Mount and Amad played crucial roles, with Amad providing the assist. Mainoo was booked in the first-half added time. Second half United picked up where they left off, enjoying a dream start to the second half. Fernandes added a third with a stunning finish after being sent through by Dorgu. The linesman had initially ruled it out for offside but the goal was restored after a VAR check. The third goal prompted United to lay siege to Brighton’s goal and pepper it with chances. In the 51st minute, Mbeumo flicked the ball to Dorgu, who covered ground brilliantly to get there, but Verbruggen thwarted him with a save. Amad also wanted in on the party, firing a good shot from the edge of the area. Verbruggen produced another fine save to keep it out and keep the scoreline respectable for the Seagulls. Dorgu was handed another opportunity to double his tally, but again, he found an inspired Verbruggen impossible to beat. Carrick made his first change in the 61st minute, taking off Dorgu and bringing on Shea Lacey in his place. With the win virtually in the bag, United took control and neutralised Brighton’s threat. The visitors held the ball effectively and enjoyed the lion’s share of possession. Carrick made three more changes in the 73rd minute. The United boss took off Mbeumo, Mount and Mazraoui and replaced them with Joshua Zirkzee, Tyler Fletcher and Leny Yoro. Maguire drove into the box in the 76th minute looking to add to the tally but his cross failed to locate a teammate. Lacey then attempted to curl an effort on goal, though it didn’t trouble Verbruggen unduly. Tyrell Malacia was introduced in the 82nd minute for his final United appearance. Fernandes almost had his 22nd assist of the season when he set up Yoro, but the Frenchman’s header hit the crossbar. But United were well worth all three points at the Amex to bring the curtain down on a very positive season that was turned around by Carrick’s arrival at the start of the year. Manchester United beat Brighton 3-0 in their final game of the 2025/26 Premier League season. Here are our player ratings from the game. (A score of 6 is around average) Ratings Senne Lammens 7 – Had surprisingly little to do, but was excellent when called upon. Noussair Mazraoui 7 – Somehow the defence always seems a little more solid when he’s playing. Reads the game well and offers calm composure on and off the ball. His biggest problem seems to be his propensity to get injured easily. Harry Maguire 6.5 – Didn’t put a foot wrong until the hour mark, when he gave away a clumsy and needless foul that could have been costly. Lisandro Martinez 7 – Flawless. His passing is a big asset to the team. Luke Shaw 6.5 – Another good showing to complete a superb all-round defensive effort. Mason Mount 6.5 – A couple of decent touches, was neat and tidy, but did not impose himself enough on the game. Kobbie Mainoo 7.5 – Bossed the midfield. Went on a couple of mazy runs in the box that deserved more reward. So hard to wrestle off the ball. Bruno Fernandes 9 – Another masterclass. He seems to have the ability to see where every player is on the pitch even with his back to goal. Goal and assist – that’s if the dubious goals panel doesn’t get involved. Amad 7.5 – His best outing since AFCON and a good assist to cap it off. Patrick Dorgu 8.5 – A slow start but came into his own with a superb headed goal and assist and all-round energetic performance. Caused havoc in the Brighton defence. Bryan Mbeumo 7 – An easy tap-in making it 11 for the season, he’s not finished the campaign on top form but still played his part in this game. Substitutes Shea Lacey 6 – Had little impact. Tried a curler from the edge of the box but it was a bit feeble. Josh Zirkzee 6 – Had little impact. Tyler Fletcher 6.5 – Slotted in well, looked comfortable in central midfield. Leny Yoro 6.5 – A decent cameo at right-back. Good last-ditch tackle at the death. Tyrell Malacia 6.5 – Did OK in what will be his last match in a United shirt. Confirmed United XI vs Brighton: Mazraoui, Mount, Dorgu replace Dalot, Casemiro and Cunha

Michael Carrick has selected his final Manchester United side of the 2025/26 season as his Red Devils face Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium. It was decided in advance that last week’s home game against Nottingham Forest would be Casemiro’s last in a red shirt, so he has not travelled with the squad. Benjamin Sesko and Matthijs de Ligt are still injured and also miss the game. With a third-place finish in the Premier League guaranteed, Carrick has still fielded a strong starting line-up as the Seagulls are fighting for a European place. Defence Senne Lammens is in goal. The back four are Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martínez and Luke Shaw. The historically injury-prone Shaw completes a full season in the starting line-up today. Diogo Dalot is not included in the squad, we have not heard yet whether he is injured. Midfield and Attack Kobbie Mainoo is partnered by Mason Mount in central midfield. Ahead of them, Bruno Fernandes is in the number 10 role, with Patrick Dorgu on the left wing and Amad on the right. Fernandes equalled Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne’s record of 20 assists in a Premier League season and will be in the hunt for another today to claim the record outright. Bryan Mbeumo is up front. Substitutes On the bench are reserve keeper Altay Bayindir, Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven, Tyrell Malacia, Tyler Fletcher, Manuel Ugarte, Matheus Cunha, Joshua Zirkzee and Shea Lacey. If Malacia gets minutes it will be his last game for United with his contract expiring next month. Kick-off in Brighton is at 4pm. Carrick earns United lucrative windfall that will radically upgrade summer transfer plans -report

Manchester United’s third-placed finish in the Premier League is set to hand them a significant financial boost ahead of a crucial summer. The Red Devils were staring at oblivion midway through the season following the departure of former head coach Ruben Amorim. The Portuguese failed to build on an impressive summer of 2025, during which INEOS invested wisely in the attack and goalkeeping departments. While the performances were significantly better than the previous season, results did not improve, prompting United to let Amorim go at the beginning of January. The Red Devils appeared to be lagging behind in the top-four race, but Michael Carrick’s arrival changed everything. Tasked with getting the season back on track and pushing for a top-four finish, the Englishman secured his objectives well before the end of the campaign. United have now finished third in the Premier League with one game left in the season, thanks to a run of 11 wins and three draws in 16 games under Carrick. With a place in next season’s Champions League also secured, an update has now emerged on how much the Red Devils will earn from their third-placed finish in the league. United set to pocket £48.6m According to the Manchester Evening News, United are likely to pocket £48.6 million thanks to their league position this season. The report states: “Arsenal will be entitled to the largest slice of the prize money pot following their first league title since 2004.” “This is anticipated to amount to roughly £54m, while runners-up City are set to receive approximately £51.3m, while United’s share is anticipated to be roughly £48.6m.” The report points out that Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are set to finish at the bottom of the table, are likely to earn around £2.7m, the lowest of the 20 teams. Estimated Premier League Prize Money: 2025/26 Season Tentative PositionClubEstimated Prize Money 1Arsenal£54m 2Manchester City£51.3m 3Manchester United£48.6m 4Aston Villa£45.9m 5Liverpool£43.2m 6Bournemouth£40.5m 7Brighton£37.8m 8Chelsea£35.1m 9Brentford£32.4m 10Sunderland£29.7m 11Newcastle£27m 12Everton£24.3m 13Fulham£21.6m 14Leeds£18.9m 15Crystal Palace£16.2m 16Nottingham Forest£13.5m 17Tottenham£10.8m 18West Ham£8.1m 19Burnley£5.4m 20Wolves£2.7m How much did clubs earn last season? The report goes on to add that the sum allocated to each position depends on many factors and can change annually. It states: “The sum allocated per position varies annually and can be affected by inflation and other factors.” “Last season’s amount stood between £2.6million and £2.7m, which represented what bottom side Southampton collected simply for competing, alongside approximately £100m more in various payments.” “Approximately £90m of that figure comprised international and domestic broadcast revenue, which is distributed equally among all 20 clubs. Furthermore, each side also pocketed £7.9m from central commercial revenue streams, a sum expected to remain broadly similar this season.” The report also points out that bigger clubs secure larger portion of the broadcast revenue due to their worldwide appeal, adding: “Clubs then collect merit payments determined by their final league position, alongside facility fees calculated on how frequently their matches were broadcast throughout the campaign.” “Unsurprisingly, several of the larger clubs command a greater portion of this fund, owing to their appeal to broadcasters.” Final Thoughts A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person suggests that United could earn as much as £70 million from their participation in the Champions League. With INEOS preparing for further investments in the squad, bringing in Carrick in January this year is once again proving to be a masterstroke. Venezuelan midfielder explains why United ace is “more than welcome” to join his club amid growing speculation

Manchester United fans are experiencing a bittersweet ending to the 2025/26 season. The Red Devils enjoyed a tremendous run under Michael Carrick, who arrived in January to rescue a stranded ship following Ruben Amorim’s abrupt exit. The English giants were a team reborn under their former midfielder, playing exceptionally well and securing third place in the Premier League table. United’s run of 11 wins and three draws in 16 games under the English manager earned him the permanent job at the Theatre of Dreams. However, one of the stalwarts of Carrick’s midfield, Casemiro, is set to leave the Red Devils as a free agent at the end of this season. The new United manager has already confirmed that the outstanding Brazilian has played his last game for the club. Casemiro has won over fans with his performances this season but his contract expires at the end of this season. While supporters would have loved to have him around, the player has delivered enough memories in the past year for them to remember him by. Casemiro’s United redemption Casemiro appeared to be on the verge of an exit from Old Trafford in the summer of 2024, following his absence from the FA Cup final squad. United won 2-1 against Manchester City, and it appeared that age had caught up with Brazilian. However, the veteran midfielder refused to surrender and emerged largely unscathed through the managerial turmoil of the 2024/25 campaign. He was named in the starting XI for the Europa League final, which United lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur, ending the campaign as an important member of head coach Ruben Amorim’s squad. Casemiro, however, turned up the heat this season, cementing a place in the Portuguese’s squad. When Amorim lost his job and United switched to a 4-2-3-1 formation under Carrick, the Brazilian retained his place in the team, and he has been indispensable so far. The 34 year old has registered nine goals and two assists in 35 appearances across all competitions, all but two of which have been starts. Recent reports suggest that Casemiro is set to team up with former rival Lionel Messi at Inter Miami this summer. The Herons’ midfielder Telasco Segovia has now expressed his opinion on the matter. Telasco Segovia eager to team up with Casemiro Speaking recently, as cited by Ole, Segovia appeared to confirm that Casemiro is arriving at the Nu Stadium. He said: “I know Casemiro is coming. He’s a great player. If that’s the case, he is more than welcome. I hope he contributes a lot to the team, I believe he will give us so much.” Casemiro’s arrival could help fill the boots of Sergio Busquets, who retired at the end of last year. The Brazilian famously battled both Busquets and Messi in the fabled El Clasico during his time with Real Madrid. Final Thoughts Casemiro left a lasting impression this season, playing a major role in United’s third-placed finish. The Red Devils have to invest heavily in midfield this summer to ensure his absence is not felt next campaign. Manchester United will wrap up their 2025/26 campaign away from home against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon. Michael Carrick, who has now officially been appointed as the permanent head coach at United, has confirmed that Casemiro will not feature at Brighton, having bid farewell to the Old Trafford crowd after the 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend. United are also not waiting for the season to end or the summer window to open before laying the groundwork for the signing of Casemiro‘s potential successor. Ederson only wants Manchester United Manchester United find themselves in pole position to secure the services of Atalanta’s midfield commander Ederson, despite interest from other clubs. According to Fabrizio Romano, Ederson has “paused all other clubs” keen on signing him in order to give priority to United. This is an interesting development, given that the six-foot-tall Brazilian reportedly agreed personal terms to join Atlético Madrid earlier this year. The Italian journalist adds that United are in “advanced talks” with Atalanta. However, they are “waiting to give their final green light” to proceed and finalise what may be Michael Carrick’s first signing in charge of the Red Devils. Atalanta boss hints at imminent exit With all eyes seemingly on a dream move to the Theatre of Dreams, Ederson did not play in Atalanta’s final game of the season against Fiorentina. “Ederson out? It was a decision we agreed with the boy because there’s something going on in the transfer market,” Atalanta manager Raffaele Palladino said after the full-time whistle while addressing his star player’s absence. A tireless worker, the Samba midfielder has been an instrumental part of Palladino’s setup, shining as the tempo-setter by receiving the ball from the back and distributing it to his more dangerous teammates. On Saturday, United insider SullyTalkz on Twitter suggested that Ederson would “most likely be coming in as a squad option, rather than a starter” at the club. Jason Wilcox and company are also thought to be working on bringing in Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United. Manchester United are moving swiftly to beat their Premier League rivals to the signing of one of the most exciting midfielders in England. It has been widely reported that Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is the club’s preferred candidate to replace the departing Casemiro, who has already played his final game for the Red Devils.  However, Anderson seems on his way to Manchester City, who are prepared to blow competitors out of the water in terms of wages. Meanwhile, United are in a much stronger position when it comes to the race for the signature of another all-action midfielder. Manchester United confident of signing Mateus Fernandes According to Theatre of Red’s Shaun Connolly, West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes remains a player of considerable interest at Manchester United. More importantly, Connolly adds that “there is a growing confidence of completing deal this summer” for the Portuguese midfielder. Earlier this month, Connolly claimed that United officials are “eager to get the bulk of their work done early” and consider players like Fernandes and Carlos Baleba as “complementary additions” to the existing squad. Fernandes has been described as a “modern-day regista” for the exceptional passing range and ground coverage he offers. Legendary midfielder Roy Keane recently suggested he is a big admirer of the youngster after picking Fernandes over all of Alex Scott, Enzo Fernandez, Ryan Gravenberch, Baleba and even Casemiro. Arsenal are also thought to be interested in the 21-year-old, but a separate report claimed earlier today that Fernandes is prioritising a move to Old Trafford. West Ham’s asking price for Mateus Fernandes Meanwhile, Football Insider reveal that the relegation-threatened Hammers would demand around £50 million for Fernandes, who moved to London from Southampton last year.
