With the summer transfer window just around the corner, reports have begun to circulate linking Manchester United to an array of exciting players across a number of positions. As is often the case, fans are understandably more excited by the prospect of players who might arrive at Old Trafford, but it is important to keep an eye on those who might depart the Theatre of Dreams as well. Players leave United for a variety of reasons. In the case of the departing Casemiro, he is embarking on a new challenge. Alejandro Garnacho headed to Chelsea after a breakdown in his relationship with Ruben Amorim, and Jadon Sancho seems set to leave Old Trafford simply because he has never reached the standards expected of a United player. In the case of talented young players, however, they sometimes need to head out on loan in order to develop into the players they have the potential to become. This may be the case for one or two central defenders currently on the books, who may have to temporarily leave to find the regular football they need. United’s first choice centre-backs Ever since Michael Carrick returned to the club in January, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez have firmly established themselves as his first-choice central defenders. The pair have started every game for which they have been fit and available, delivering stellar performances in each of these appearances. It’s hard to argue against either player deserving the game time they have received, as the Red Devils seem a much more secure and organised side with them in the team. However, it does raise the question as to when the other central defenders on the books will get the minutes they need. De Ligt set to return It was a season of two halves for Netherlands international Matthijs De Ligt. He started the season exceptionally well, perhaps even being the Red Devils’ standout player before Christmas. However, the commanding defender suffered a back injury on the 30th of November that has kept him out of action ever since. The former Ajax man recently underwent surgery to fix the issue and is expected back in the early stages of next season. Once he is back to full fitness, De Ligt will likely push for a starting spot and, as a result, the other central defenders at United will find it even harder to get minutes. Add into consideration the fact that United are being linked with a move for a new centre-back this summer too, and it becomes even harder to imagine either of the Red Devils’ young centre-halves forcing their way into the starting eleven. Yoro and Heaven Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven are two supremely talented central defenders, each with a tremendous amount of potential. United signed Yoro for an initial fee of £52 million when he was just 18 years old, beating an array of esteemed clubs including Real Madrid to his signature. Heaven, meanwhile, was signed from Premier League rivals Arsenal for a modest fee of £1.5 million. Both players have enjoyed some success in their burgeoning United careers, each delivering standout performances in big games when given the opportunity. The problem, though, is that those opportunities have been few and far between. Last season, Yoro played just 51% of available minutes in the Premier League, starting just 47% of the games. Heaven, meanwhile, played just 27% of available minutes in the Premier League, starting just 29% of the games. With Yoro now 20 years of age and Heaven 19 years old, both players are in need of regular football to continue developing and improving, yet it seems unlikely that either of the young players will manage to fight their way into the starting eleven. Therefore, at least one of the pair should look to head out on loan next season. Both Yoro and Heaven are good enough to play a key role for a slightly lesser team than the Red Devils, and doing so will improve their leadership qualities, physicality, and positional awareness as well. This experience will help them develop into more complete players and ensure they are ready to challenge for a starting berth when they return to United. Loaning out 52 million defender next season could be a masterstroke by INEOS, but its a huge gamble – opinion

United ready to spend 50m to make 21-yo star their next signing, he wants to join – report
Manchester United enjoyed a strong end to the season under Michael Carrick, finishing third in the Premier League and securing qualification for next season’s Champions League. The English manager transformed the team upon his arrival in January, initially in a caretaker role, embarking on a run of 12 wins and just two defeats in 17 games. His efforts earned him the permanent position last week, but Carrick will be expected to build on the recent rise and step up to an even higher level next season. Understandably, the Red Devils are preparing for a summer of reinforcements, with midfield emerging as the primary area of focus. Recent reports suggest that the English giants are close to securing the services of Atalanta’s Ederson, but he is unlikely to be the only midfielder to arrive at the Theatre of Dreams this summer. United are preparing for life after Casemiro, and possibly Manuel Ugarte, and are also eyeing several Premier League-proven candidates for the role. The Red Devils’ priority target, Elliot Anderson, could be on his way to Manchester City. Among the other midfielders on United’s wish list for the job is Mateus Fernandes. United to take advantage of West Ham’s relegation West Ham United were relegated to the Championship this season, adding to speculation regarding the futures of several of their stars. The Hammers struggled to impress this campaign, yet Fernandes, who arrived in London last summer from Southampton, managed to stand out. The Portuguese registered five goals and four assists in 39 appearances in all competitions this season for West Ham, all but one of which were starts. A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person suggested that Fernandes is prioritising a move to Old Trafford this summer. It has also been reported that the London club want £80 million for 21 year old, although a deal could be possible for £60 million. An update on the situation has now emerged. United value Fernandes at £50 million According to Flashscore, United value Fernandes at £50 million and are already assessing the possibility of a deal. The report states: “Flashscore understands United want to sign three midfield players during the transfer window and 21-year-old Fernandes has emerged as one of the names under serious consideration.” “There is belief that Fernandes will become available on the market and United are looking to understand the terms he could be signed for. They value him in the region of £50 million, and want to assess whether a reasonable deal can be completed.” The report confirms that West Ham United will attempt to ignite a bidding war for their prized asset, with Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) also in the picture. The report states that United are determined not to overpay in the market and that approach could affect their pursuit of long-term target Carlos Baleba, adding: “United are determined not to overpay in the market and that stance could affect their pursuit of Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, who remains a player they very much admire if Brighton soften their £100 million valuation.” Final Thoughts United must take advantage of West Ham’s relegation to secure the services of Fernandes. The Portuguese midfielder matches the age profile INEOS have targeted of late, and has a very high ceiling, so the Red Devils cannot afford to miss out on him. “Here we go”: 6ft South American star set to join PL rivals despite holding talks with United – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United are moving aggressively to strengthen their midfield, having all but sealed the signing of Ederson from Atalanta. They are also in discussions for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes and Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson. However, Michael Carrick also needs greater depth at the back to compete on all fronts next season. ESPN have previously reported that United’s recruitment staff are “closely studying this summer’s list of free agents as a way of potentially bolstering the squad without burning too much of a hole in the budget.” In that regard, Marcos Senesi of Bournemouth emerged as an appealing target. Manchester United held talks with Marcos Senesi’s camp Marcos Senesi is leaving Bournemouth on a free transfer upon the expiration of his contract this summer. The six-foot-tall left-footed centre-back, who joined Bournemouth from Feyenoord in 2022, has earned a reputation as a technically secure and rock-solid defender. Needless to say, his availability as a free agent put him on the radar of several top clubs, including Manchester United. In April, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United were in “close contact” with the agents of the 29-year-old Argentinian central defender. Given Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt’s injury records, United’s talks over a potential arrival of Senesi on a free transfer made a lot of sense. However, the Bournemouth man has decided to join another club. Marcos Senesi ready to join Tottenham Hotspur According to Fabrizio Romano, Marcos Senesi is joining Tottenham Hotspur. The Italian journalist posted on X: “Marcos Senesi to Tottenham, here we go! Deal in place after the verbal agreement reported since March.” It is understood Spurs have offered him a four-year contract to be part of Roberto De Zerbi’s project. United have also been handed a blow in their hopes of luring Senesi’s soon-to-be-former teammate Alex Scott. The technically gifted midfielder, who has impressed figures at Old Trafford, has been offered a new contract at Bournemouth. Still, there is time for United to turn Scott’s head. United academy graduate given permission to rush back to England – report
Former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has returned to England. Corinthians Lingard left Manchester United in 2022 after playing over 200 times for his boyhood club. His highlight would surely have been scoring the winning goal at Wembley in the 2016 FA Cup final against Crystal Palace. He joined Nottingham Forest before moving to South Korea to play for FC Seoul. After two years in Asia, Lingard’s globe-trotting has taken him to Brazil, where he is currently playing for Corinthians. History Since making his debut earlier this year, Lingard has made history in Brazil. He became the first Englishman to score for a Brazilian club, and then the first to score in the Copa Libertadores, the South American equivalent of the Champions League. The Carrington product has played 17 matches, scoring two goals and providing one assist. His last match was a 45-minute cameo in a 3-1 victory over Clube Atlético Mineiro in Serie A. Update Corinthians have provided an alarming update on the 33-year-old. Their official X account posted, “the attacker Jesse Lingard was authorized by the football board and by coach Fernando Diniz to travel to England, this Thursday (05/28), to attend to family matters.” The statement continued, “the athlete will be released from the match against Grêmio, next Saturday (05/30), for the Brazilian Championship.” Nota oficial: Jesse Lingard O atacante Jesse Lingard foi autorizado pela diretoria de futebol e pelo técnico Fernando Diniz para viajar à Inglaterra, nesta quinta (28/05), para cuidar de assuntos familiares. Official: United star makes final cut for World Cup squad in spite of erratic season
Manchester United have a plethora of players called up to the FIFA World Cup this summer. Representatives Casemiro and Matheus Cunha will represent Brazil with Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot hoping to lead Portugal to victory. Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford will walk out for the Three Lions, and Noussair Mazraoui will play for Morocco. Amad has received an international call-up for the Ivory Coast, while Senne Lammens is in Belgium’s squad. Manuel Ugarte will go with Uruguay, and Diego Leon is in Paraguay’s preliminary squad, as is Altay Bayindir for Turkey. Lisandro Martinez It has now been confirmed that Lisandro Martinez will be yet another United man at the World Cup. The winner of the tournament in 2022 has been named in Argentina’s final World Cup squad. 🚨🚨| OFFICIAL: Lisandro Martinez has been included in Argentina’s World Cup squad. 🇦🇷 pic.twitter.com/tPSRe4kD7o — centredevils. (@centredevils) May 28, 2026 Martinez has had a challenging season with injury and has had a limited number of matches. The defender has only played in 19 matches this season: 18 of these came in the Premier League and one in the FA Cup. He missed the start of the season with a cruciate ligament injury from the previous campaign but made his debut against Crystal Palace at the end of November. The 28-year-old defender did play regularly between Christmas and February, but once again injuries arrived, this time a calf problem. On his return to action against Leeds United, he picked up a controversial red card for hair pulling and was banned for three matches. He did play the final three games of the season, though, and this has been enough to convince the Argentine coach. Former Red Devil Alejandro Garnacho has missed out, though, after a less than convincing season for Chelsea. Video: Free flowing United Women see off West Ham 5-4 in chaotic fashion
Manchester United Women kicked off the World Sevens tournament in style with a 5-4 win over West Ham United. First half After just five minutes, Manchester United took the lead when Melvine Malard’s long-range effort was deflected into the roof of the net. Just one minute later, Simi Awujo raced down the side of the pitch and played in an inch-perfect cross for Elisabeth Terland to tap in. Manchester United were really in the mood and, after eight minutes, Ellen Wangerheim held the ball up well and released the Frenchwoman Malard. She bore down on goal and kept her cool brilliantly to skip past the keeper and roll the ball into the back of the net. In a real blitz, Manchester United grabbed a fourth before ten minutes were up. Terland’s powerful shot was stopped by the Hammers’ keeper but she turned in the rebound for her second of the afternoon. West Ham pulled one back when Ffion Morgan headed in unmarked at the back post. The Norwegian Terland grabbed her hat-trick, though, in a clinical display to make it 5-1. Anna Sandberg’s cross was tucked in brilliantly by Terland, who showed off her razer-sharp finishing in the London sunshine. Second half It’s safe to say Manchester United took their foot off the gas substantially in the second half after being 5-1 up. Ella Toone did almost grab a sixth early on, but her left-footed shot struck the underside of the bar. Morgan grabbed her second for West Ham as she crashed in a left-footed drive into the bottom corner to make it 5-2. Riko Ueki pulled another back when she expertly finished off a cross into the box to make Manchester United sweat a little. Eva Nystrom grabbed West Ham’s fourth after holding off the Manchester United defence and then firing past Phallon Tullis-Joyce and into the net. Manchester United managed to hold on and won their first match of the group. The Red Devils will be in action twice tomorrow, first against Aston Villa at 15:00 BST and then will finish off the group against Tottenham Hotspur at 20:00 BST. Struggling United ace planning to resist INEOS’ attempts of selling him in the summer – report
Manchester United have plans to bring in an additional striker to help ease the load off Benjamin Sesko’s shoulders with the club set to compete on four fronts next season. The Slovenian will hope INEOS can bring in help, to avoid his United career following the same trajectory as Rasmus Hojlund’s after a promising debut season. Currently, the Red Devils have Joshua Zirkzee as the 22-year-old’s backup, and while the Dutchman rates highly on metrics such as link-up play and creativity, he lacks the killer instinct in front of goal. In two seasons at Old Trafford, the former Bologna ace has managed a meagre nine goals, with only two coming this past term. Joshua Zirkzee reluctant to leave His cameos under Michael Carrick were disappointing, to say the least, which is why United’s co-owners are eager to cut their losses. The Netherlands international’s agent has offered his services to AS Roma and Juventus, with the Giallorossi even contemplating submitting a lowball opening offer. However, i News have reported that Joshua Zirkzee remains a very popular character in the dressing room and is keen to stay at the Theatre of Dreams. “The i Paper has been told that, having previously expressed a desire to leave at being kept on the periphery, popular dressing-room figure Joshua Zirkzee is now not agitating for a move. United need to be ruthless “However, he is one of the few United can part ways with and still command a decent fee. His reputation in Italy still persists, with Roma one of his admirers.” One thing is clear: United should not entertain a cut-price sale given the number of suitors chasing the former Bayern Munich ace’s signature. There is a possibility of a bidding war, and INEOS should ensure they extract the best possible price from his sale. Joshua Zirkzee wanting to stay back makes sense as he will likely receive more game time next season, and his style of play is much more suited to European football as compared to the Premier League. However, the three-time Champions League winners need to be ruthless if they want to compete next season, and unfortunately, the United No. 11‘s time is up. His departure will open up a slot with United expected to sign a veteran striker to act as backup for Sesko.
