BBC Reporter Confirms Key Man United Player Has £57M Release Clause

BACK David Tully Oct 25th 2025 Man United captain Bruno Fernandes has a release clause that can be triggered by foreign clubs, according to BBC reporter Simon Stone. The trusted journalist claims the buyout fee has been there ever since the Portuguese international put pen to paper on his last contract in August last year. Fernandes can be signed for €65m (£57m), and a move next summer can’t be ruled out, with the midfielder not completely shutting down rumours about potentially leaving Old Trafford. The 31-year-old was the subject of a substantial offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal in the last transfer window. However, a move to the Middle East doesn’t hold much interest to Fernandes, with a transfer to a team in Europe said to be much more likely. Fernandes is keeping his options open When asked about the prospect of leaving the Red Devils, Fernandes said he is happy at the club but he did caveat that by saying that he would be speaking to his agent about his future after the World Cup: “As I’ve always said, I feel good here. I want to achieve my dreams still. I can’t talk for the club. I’ve seen a lot of people talking that I had an agreement to go already next season. If the club has done that agreement, it wasn’t made with me. I haven’t spoken with anyone.” “My agent also knows how I work. If he wants to talk to me, it will be after the World Cup. Until then, I won’t speak to anyone.” The United star will have a year left on his contract next summer Fernandes signed a three-year extension in 2024, so he will be closing in on the final year of his current deal at the end of the season. The club do, however, have the option to extend it for another 12 months if they so wish, which gives them some control over his future, but the existence of the release clause means they will be powerless to keep him if a team pays the requisite fee.
