Bayern’s stance on red-hot United loanee made clear, they could have signed him already – report

Manchester United winger Antony is not a target for Bayern Munich despite his dazzling form on loan at Real Betis, according to a reliable journalist in Germany.

The Brazilian has been a revelation since swapping the north of England for the south of Spain, chipping in with three goals and one assist in five matches for Betis.

The 24-year-old was named man of the match in his first three games for the club, and has been nominated for La Liga Player of the Month as he turns heads across Europe.

Reports surfaced last week that Antony’s resurgence had landed him on the radar of Bayern Munich, going so far as to claim that the Bavarian side had opened talks with United over a potential signing.

But Bayern insider Christian Falk has today poured cold water on those links, telling CaughtOffside categorically that “it’s not true that Bayern want to sign Antony.”

Interestingly, Falk explains that “FC Bayern already had the chance to sign the player once. But those responsible were not one hundred per cent convinced.

“That’s still the case today. Moreover, like [Phil] Foden, he would currently be too expensive.”

It’s fair to say that barely anyone was convinced by the winger after his blockbuster switch from Ajax, costing United some £86m.

Since his arrival at Old Trafford, he managed only 12 goals and 5 assists in 96 matches.

His red-hot form since his move away has been galling for Ruben Amorim, who gave him chances to succeed in his 3-4-3 system before sanctioning his loan departure last month.

The decision was largely welcomed at the time but, with United currently mired in an injury crisis and chronically short of attacking firepower, allowing him and Marcus Rashford to leave on loan with no reinforcements coming in to replace them is looking like incredibly poor planning.

But regardless of his performances in Spain it is unlikely that there will be a fairytale ending to Antony’s story, and it is hard to see him donning United red again.

The player seems happy in Spain and is playing with a freedom that he could not find at Old Trafford, so his best contribution now will be to boost his own value to give Amorim the biggest possible cash boost to rebuild his squad in the summer.
