Amorim’s perfect right wing back being seduced by Liverpool, Ineos must act fast – report

Manchester United wing back target Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly in constant contact with Liverpool boss Arne Slot.

United have seen the benefit of a specialised left wing back with Patrick Dorgu’s fine performances since arriving in Manchester in late January.

Therefore, Ruben Amorim is said to be keen to try and secure a signing of a specialised right wing back to bring balance to his 3-4-3 formation.

The Red Devils looked set to seal the signing of starlet Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP but it was announced last week that Chelsea had stolen the player from right under their noses.

The Bayer Leverkusen right wingback, Frimpong, has been linked to Old Trafford for a long time now and has been touted as a potential option this summer for Amorim’s men.

Hir former club Manchester City are also said to be chasing his signature but German paper SPORT BILD claim that it is in fact Liverpool that carry the biggest threat.

The outlet claims that should Trent Alexander-Arnold depart this summer, Frimpong would be an attractive option to fill the void left behind.

It is said that Slot “communicates regularly” with his compatriot Frimpong and that “the coach wanted the lightning-fast defender at the start of the season.”

Moreover, “Frimpong’s €40 million release clause shouldn’t pose an impossible task for Liverpool either – if money flows into the club’s coffers in the summer.”

Nonetheless if Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk “all leave in the summer without being able to collect a transfer fee, the situation at Liverpool will be different.”

In that case, a centre forward and a centre back would then become a bigger priority for the Anfield side to fill.

Frimpong has been an ever-present once again for Bayer Leverkusen playing 40 matches this season, scoring four goals and providing 11 assists from the wingback role.
