Amorim makes changes for Liverpool clash

Ruben Amorim has selected the Manchester United side for his first Anfield assignment as head coach.

The Reds may be the underdogs heading into the encounter with Premier League leaders Liverpool, considering the contrasting form of the two sides.

However, Amorim will hope his XI can spring a surprise on Merseyside, with the game kicking off at 16:30 GMT despite the snow and freezing conditions affecting most of the UK, including areas throughout the north west.

Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes return from the suspension that ruled them out of the defeat to Newcastle United last Monday, with both midfielders back in the starting line-up.

Kobbie Mainoo, who came on for Joshua Zirkzee in the first half of the 2-0 reverse to the Magpies, is also recalled, while defenders Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot continue in the wing-back slots.

Player-of-the-Month Amad will support centre-forward Rasmus Hojlund. Jonny Evans and Marcus Rashford miss out, as Amorim had previously suggested to MUTV, while Tyrell Malacia is named on the bench.

The hosts welcome Ibrahima Konate back into central defence but Dominik Szoboszlai is absent.

THE TEAMS

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, van Dijk (c), Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Jones, Gakpo; Diaz.

Substitutes: Kelleher, Bradley, Quansah, Tsimikas, Elliott, Endo, Chiesa, Jota, Nunez.

United: Onana; De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez; Mazraoui, Ugarte, Mainoo, Dalot; Amad, Fernandes (c); Hojlund.

Substitutes: Bayindir, Malacia, Yoro, Casemiro, Collyer, Eriksen, Antony, Garnacho, Zirkzee.
