Amorim drops selection bombshell ahead of Arsenal clash, signals the end of this star’s United career – Athletic

Ruben Amorim is expected to drop a selection bombshell ahead of Manchester United’s opening Premier League game of the season against Arsenal.

Rasmus Hojlund, who has been linked with a move to AC Milan, is set to be dropped from the matchday squad as per The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell.

“Rasmus Hojlund is set to be left out Manchester United’s matchday squad for their Premier League opener against Arsenal after being told he faces a challenge to get minutes under Ruben Amorim.

“Hojlund faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford following the signing of fellow striker Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to £73.7million.

No Rasmus Hojlund vs Arsenal

“The 22-year-old has attracted interest from a range of clubs, including AC Milan and RB Leipzig, but has so far remained adamant that he wishes to stay and fight for his place. He is maintaining commitment and professionalism during this time.”

The head coach has already hinted at Benjamin Sesko being fit enough to start, while Mason Mount, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo can all play there if needed, like they did against Fiorentina.

The Dane was an unused substitute on that day, and was reportedly unimpressed. There were even murmurs that should that repeat against Mikel Arteta’s side, it would likely suggest his short-lived United career was certain to come to an end.

That is exactly what seems to be happening. The Denmark international had publicly expressed his desire to stay and fight for his place.

Needs to leave

But that stance could now change, as the Portuguese tactician does not seem to have him in his plans for the upcoming season.

Amorim was left deeply disappointed with the 22-year-old’s displays last season, with Rasmus Hojlund managing a meagre four Premier League goals in all of last season.

INEOS are eager to get rid of him, even if on loan. There has been interest from other Serie A clubs, as well as a couple of Premier League teams like Newcastle, and Fulham.

The ex-Atalanta ace does not want to leave on loan, and would prefer a permanent solution or at least a loan with an obligation so that his future gets sorted, and he does not have to face the same situation in 12 months’ time.

The 20-time English league champions are likely to have to sell him for less than his book value of around £45 million.
